Unknown Page

Should someone( not me ) make a page that is filled with Unknown Skills/Weapons/NPCs/Monsters. It would be a place where people can research on them to discover what they are/where they are/what they do. Treesbyty 14:41, 2 June 2008 (UTC)

Categorical Index

Heya, I know we talked about this, and I brought it up on the talk page, but no one seemed to care, so I added it. Guild Wars Wiki:Categorical index it still needs some stuff added, I was trying to not duplicate things, but some of it is inevitable, and if you want to change the color, go for it, I just wanted something that wasn't already being used. I also created a new color reference page of all the color schemes that have been assigned stuff in GWW - GWW:COLORS -- Wynthyst 23:17, 2 June 2008 (UTC)

The new color used for the images is nice, and of course some categories overlap with each other. But it's already a great list, more than i would have added, so this looks almost comlete for me. Though in case i should notice anything that's missing i'll add it. GWW:COLORS is also a nice idea for an overview. But shouldn't this page be moved to Guild Wars Wiki:Formatting/Colors? Maybe you should leave a note on other pages like GWW:BOXES about it as well? —Zerpha

Phew!

Ok, all of the articles have been created. A few need images, but I'll get those done hopefully by tonight. But there is one problem. I'm looking at the PvP weapon creation screen right now, and the Hallowed Idol has no PvP prefix. I'm hesitant to create one with a PvP prefix, because....well, it doesnt exist XD. should we direct it to the main Hallowed Idol page for now? ~ Wandering Traveler 23:20, 6 June 2008 (UTC)

eh, nevermind on that. I went ahead and created PvP Hallowed Idol, but added as a bug that it had no PvP prefix. Hopefully that'll do it. But aside from that, I think I'm done :) ~

Creating categories is exactly done as creating any other usual articles, the diffrence is that it's content will be filled with pages tagged with that category, but you know about that. :P

We should maybe wait a bit longer with creation and the tagging spree, as meanwhile only one day passed off, not many saw that discussion yet. Possibly someone comes up with another idea, or we get at least a response what others think. (But i strongly suppose the name is OK) —Zerpha

some horizontal aren't in a row, but the vertical ones all look straight for me. Maybe you are only confused by the border of the mudkip box, as the mudbrick box uses the same color for the border and the picture background, which possibly makes it appears longer than it actually is? —Zerpha

Urgh

I'm a photoshop nub and I can't figure out how to get any icons exported with texmod transparent *pulls out some hair* - help? <_< Jennalee 06:36, 15 June 2008 (UTC)

Oh, sry. I forgot to mention one part on the project's main page. You need to download an auxiliary module for Photoshop in order to be able to read the .tga files. The file i downloaded was named "Targa.8BI". You have to put it in the "File Formats" folder in order to work. The entire adress is most likely something like C:\Program Files\Adobe\Photoshop 7.0\Plug-Ins\File Formats —Zerpha

Nope, those were from the dat. I have no idea why they're yellow when the real base color is red, so I guess that's a bug (like some of the icons being miniaturised or having really jagged edges - they seem to have been very rushed). I managed to stumble upon Adriunna's talkpage archives in the meantime and ended up using Paint.NET to save Sskai's sword to a transparent png but I have two versions of the icon as I seem to have both the old and new versions of the sword and I'm not entirely sure which one is the currently dropped... Yeah, the grey background is a bit annoying, but i also tried to get rid of it, with even worse results ;) Yours doesn't have a shade unlike the original one, so unless we get someone that is able to remove the grey background without decreasing the quality, i think we should keep the normal ones. However, if you prefer your version, you can upload them in your user namespace ofc.

I also thought about colored icons once. But this would give a very huge uncompleted list, even if we are not going to upload dye mixes would this more then decouple the icons list. On the armor gallery pages are one dyed example and the grey appearance listed, so we could possibly try to get grey icons. Actually i don't really think we urgently need them, but you could nevertheless propose your idea on the project's talk (or possibly the image formatting talk instead). But don't forget about the minorcase rule: except for propoer nouns, words shouldn't be written with capital letters, so the naming should be something like File:Elementalist Asuran Shoes m black.png instead. (The colored armor images also have the color word behind the gender, so if we'd upload them, their naming should be adapted to those images) —Zerpha

Emote Box

Hmm, nice idea, but how should this look like? Emotes are dependent from gender, and in some cases from class as well. But there isn't any specific icon one could use for those boxes. You could use the emotes' letters, but some of them are too long for a userbox. Maybe something like

PvP reward weapon skin icons

As User:WarIock was kind enough to upload screenshots of some of the exotic pvp reward weapons which have been missing for a very long time, you could probably reupload the icons you got from the dat from seeing the greens under their official, non-unique item skin names. shield icons

I added several shield icons, I didn't want to move them top the top of the page until you confirmed them, hard to tell the difference on some. Fall 12:17, 29 June 2008 (UTC)

Yeah, i noticed that. In some cases the dyed icon appearace is slightly diffrent, but almost the same. Did you reupload the icons of the undyed versions of the items skin? I also did that with several items of which i noticed that they have the same appearance. —Zerpha

Most unique weapons use the undyed icon of their skin used, but with a special coloring. Due to this, most unique items have to be extracted by using texmod, as it can directly draw the icons with their right coloring as seen ingame. That makes getting greens a bit harder than regular weapons imo, as you have to directly extract them ingame. —Zerpha

They got actually replaced for icons with gender disambiguation, but I didn't want to add the deletition tag to them yet in case someone prefers a common file...on the other side, when regarding the necromancer icons, that was about one week ago, additionally, the discussions more often came up that common names for icons are not that reasonable, so i suppose i can add the deletition tag to them. —Zerpha

Maybe you want to have a look at meta:Help:ParserFunctions. That's the page i used to learn them, along with trial and error, and while looking at other templates using such functions, for example the {{Item infobox}}. There are many descriptions that would suit to {{User not miniature fan}}, you could later add some by trying to create a switch for a further parameter to the template. :P —Zerpha

Monster Skill Icons

Since you seem to be the crazy image guy, I figured this was the best place to ask. Why exactly is it that we have a bunch of redundant monster skill icon images for every monster skill? (Example being Image:Afflicted Soul Explosion.jpg and Image:Parasitic Bite.jpg being the same thing). I'm curious as to why we have that instead of one base icon that we use for all the monster skills.....seems really odd to me. o.O -- Wandering Traveler 00:42, 14 July 2008 (UTC)

So we can autoproduce an icon from just the name.

So that we can redirect the skills icon to the skill itself.

So that if Anet ever gives them an icon of their own, we can just upload it without worry that it will break something somewhere.

Pages to be split

Accursed Icon, Air Staff, Ancient Scythe, Communing Staff, Fire Staff, Idol, Jeweled Chalice, Jeweled Staff, Onyx Staff, War Hammer, and Water Staff need to be split, do you want to split these since you know alot about the weapons? Fall 12:55, 21 July 2008 (UTC)

Well, there's not that much to know about :P Naming the disambiguations is either done by taking a look at Tolkano's reward item page, items that use the same skin and have a better name. Sometimes you also have to think something up (in regards of the Grim Cesta for example)

Yet i'm not certainly sure whether splitting the weapon pages that differ in appearance dependent on rarity is very senseful (Ancient Daggers became split already), as they are rather the same item and have the same drop locations/campaigns. —Zerpha

Oh, no. Thanks for reminding me of that, it's another page i forgot to tag for deletition. :P The project subpage was first named "Pre-order items", then soon got moved to "Bonus items" and then finally got moved (including talk page) to "Promotional weapons"). The "Bonus items" redirection pages got removed already as i tagged them, because of that it's a broken redirect. I tagged it for deletition now :) —Zerpha

HoM render page

Creating a second subpage for the hom renders was a good idea, and i think your addition with the fellowship and valor monument completed this project's subsection. The armor and miniature statues are both unneeded, as they show up with regular coloring. The miniatures move (no special pose) and use the model of an existing NPC, the armor statues are copies of the character's hom with a complete armor set that is shown without special pose like the renders emily all already uploaded with the profession's default colors. —Zerpha

64x64 quest icons too?

It's not urgent, but i planned to do so, yes. Great work on the miniature icons btw, i already wooried that the Naga Raincaller will be hard to get. :) Talking about the quest icons and trophies, i wanted to upload seperate icons for each article, even if they share their image. The reason for this is that we can then add a redirect to the according article. (In case {{item icon}} gets used sometimes; i planned an equivalent of {{NPC location}} as "{{NPC loot}}"/"{{Item drop}}", as i'm unsatisfied with the Items dropped-section on the monster articles or the Acquisition-section on the weapons article since a long time. —Zerpha

Ive had the same gw.dat file since I started playing so theirs not much I don't have, one of the problems I face is not recognizing the icons in my dat, if you keep adding the icons needed to the list that you don't have I can probably find them if i see them in a non 64x64 format so its easier for me to recognize. Good news. Regarding "collectable drop-trophies" and quest items, i should also have all of them in my gw.dat. (I saved non-weapon, non-armor icons once all in a folder, so you don't need to bother yourself finding them at first in your gw.dat if you haven't saved them yet, if you don't want). Well, anyways: Category:Trophy icons and Category:Quest item icons are nice lists for an overview, yet they are currently still quite mixed up, as they include both shared and seperate icons. The actual reason for not having started to get these icons straight up is that i actually [[(see wanted a nice name for a sub-category for the "collectable-drop-trophies" at first. (Otherwise this would require another tagging-spree someday again, hence it would be easier when including it immediately while uploading them) But when thinking about it, Category:Quest item icons does n contrast not need any subcategories i could think of, this could actually get fixed up by now. —Zerpha

Heya, I was noticing there are several trophies listed in the Image Needed category. I have most all of them in inventory, but I don't know how to extract them using textmod, and not sure I can identify them all in the DAT. Hand Axe

Could you explain what is required for Hand Axe and Hand Axe (Canthan)? Tagging with G4 isn't exactly helpful on what's being attempted. Which is needed to be moved where? And if the the redirect is to be retained, the move isn't really necessary. -- ab.er.rant 16:03, 30 July 2008 (UTC)

d'oh, i actually alrady wrote an answer and thought i saved it, but seemingly i didn't. Well, the last comment was a bit mixed up anyways, so i'll try to answer in catchwords tis time:

Hand Axe (canthan) got moved to Hand Axe (Canthan) (see reason for capitalization here)
- G4 tag on Hand Axe (Canthan) was an error and got removed now
Hand Axe (tyrian) got moved to Hand Axe (Tyrian) for the same reason
Hand Axe (Tyrian) was then planned to get moved to Hand Axe, but couldn't get moved as "Hand Axe" already exists. (reason: i realized that Hand Axe redirect to Hand Axe (Tyrian). As there are only two weapons named "Hand Axe", the article "Hand Axe" does not need to be a disambiguation page and can act for the more common of those two weapons (in this case the Tyrian version).) —Zerpha The Improver 16:56, 30 July 2008 (UTC)

Category:Spear Mastery unique items and Category:Unique spears

Theres been a problem lately with the double unique tags on certian weapon articles. (an example of this can be found here.) I'm wondering about spears in particular, because they both are listed in the above categories. But doesnt it seem a bit redundant to have unique spears and spear mastery unique items as different categories? I'm thinking we need to choose whether to keep one or the other. Well, this double "unique"-tag issue, and the "doubled" category for unique spears are two different things, aren't they?

Regarding the doubled tag-issue, i already noticed it and changed a bunch of them, though i'm not certainly sure whether that was a good idea (similar to Vorith)

But i agree with you, one of these two spear categories are redundant and could be tagged for deletition. I noticed that the same applies to every other weapon type. I suppose they were made as there's a difference in those categories where one weapon can have multiple attributes: Shields, Foci, Wands and Staves. —Zerpha

I don't think they're two different things. I remember trying to fix the unique spears category by readding the redundant Unique tag. It wasnt the greatest thing I could have done, but it fixed that category for the time being. After checking over some of the other Unique categories, it seems that one unique led to one category, while the other lead to another unique category. (example being Category:Unique bows and Category:Unique recurve bows. Removing one unique tag removed it from the former, but it was still in the latter category. I hope that made sense, my mind is not at its prime atm >.< --

Oh right, they both have to do with the {{Weapon infobox}}. :P It's likely coded in a way that only certain descriptions of the parameters will cause an auto-categorization. The main problem is likely that this template is a bit mixed up atm... —Zerpha

Need help

I need help working on my new userbox. the code is all here and examples are here. I cant figure out how to let the userboxes be {{any-color}} by just putting a 2 or no.
