Kanaxai is a chaos demon of nightmares who dwells within the Deep, beneath the Jade Sea. He is the leader of the Nightmare Horde comprised of Nightmares, Oni, and the maddened Outcasts. His exact origins and allegiances are unknown, though rumors across Cantha suggest his Oni come from the Mists, though others speculate Oni are transformed Outcasts. According to rumors, the Oni first appeared shortly after the Jade Wind, which was when Kanaxai was trapped beneath the sea.

When Luxon Reavers delving deep into the Jade for high quality deposits discovered him, his influence drove them mad. They became Outcasts, and they now serve as minions of his growing Nightmare Horde.
