Talk:Thirsty River
how the hell do you get there? By Following the Literal Directions ... Get Outa town
In HM the King will not leave at 10 minutes. Is the time requirement still there for this mission? 12.217.226.79 03:39, 20 July 2007 (UTC)
Looks like he left at 14 minutes in HM- although not 100% sure.
Two teams in third battle[edit]
Just to confirm. Tried twice, and both times i just had to engage two teams (warrior and monk) on the last battle. Those two times, i got the message stating that one team was defeated a little after the timer started running. --The preceding unsigned comment was added by Fighterdoken (talk • contribs) at 22:26, 10 October 2007 (UTC).
- I just did this with a new avatar and got something like "You've defeated an enemy team." just as Ghostly Hero started his Claim Resource spell on the last gate. Exactly as the OP, after beating the warrior and monk bosses, the mission went to final cutscene. Really annoying, since I didn't get a chance to capture Word of Healing. Guess I'll go do it again... (Ralmon the Gen 03:40, 4 February 2009 (UTC))
- You can take on only 1 team at a time in the third area if you're careful to aggro only 1 team at a time. Go to the right and attack the Warrior's team first. His support will come out to attack you, kill as many as you can, focusing on the spell casters first, until you get past the 1:15 mark of that fight, then go kill the priest. Kill Hulgar's other henchies, ending with Hulgar.
After the Warrior's team, run to engague the ranger's (Custodian Phebus) team and repeat the process. Kill as many of Phebus' henchies as you can, focusing on the spell casters. At about the 1:15 mark of a two-minute cycle, look to kill the priest. After the priest, kill the rest of Phebus' henchies, saving Phebus for last.
Finally, repeat the process with Josso's team. Kill spell casters first, go kill Josso's priest, kill the rest of the henchies and Josso last.
I used one hero (M.O.X., the only hero I have b/c it's my firt time through the game). I'm a W/E with Power Attack, Pure Strike, Final Thrust, Sprint, Conjure Flaime (with a flaming weapon), Warrior's Endurance, and Healing Sig. I took along these henchies: Alesia, Stephan, Orion, and Lina. I activated a Summoning Stone and a Blue Rock Candy before the final area.
Good luck. Good hunting.Cyryl Chevalier 22:20, 3 October 2009 (UTC)
- That's... pretty much what everyone does. This talk section refers to a bug where one team is tagged as "killed" even though it is still alive, and not to "fighting two teams at a time".--Fighterdoken 22:13, 5 October 2009 (UTC)
Ghostly Hero[edit]
Make sure that the ghostly hero follows you, if you try to talk with him, he will stay where he is. Talk with him again and he will follow you. You will need him to open the doors. This way you can also keep him out of harms way.
Thirsty River Tips in HM[edit]
Just wanted to share some tips, since I couldn't find much help on builds to get through this. I used Ursan Blessing to tank, Alesia and Little Thom as henchmen, Gwen with Signet of Humility to shut down the Enemy Priest's Word of Healing, a Restoration N/Rt, and a SS Necro. Manage the clock and attack the next groups with X:50 seconds left, you can get an enemy to die right after the resurrect point and get a slight advantage. Hope this helps someone! Jaguar Ogith 00:33, 1 February 2008 (UTC)
My typical solo cap run setup is:- Myself (Bld/Cur N/x, the x being for a Signet of Capture, or whatever other skill I feel like playing with that day)
- Koss (Str/Swo W/E, E for Whirlwind)
- Melonni (Scy/Myst D/Me, Me for some interrupts w/Egy return)
- Dunkoro (Heal/Div Mo/Me, Me for interrupts)
- Lina
- Little Thom, or sometimes I feel like Stefan
When I'm down to Josso Essher and his Priest, I target Koss onto Josso, and call target on the Priest. I myself switch back and forth with curses and degens. Seems to work reasonably well. Usually, I rarely use non-Prophecies skills here, although I do like and use Reaper's Mark a lot, since it fits with my build. 206.193.192.26 22:12, 10 October 2008 (UTC)- My bad, I just realized this was for Hard Mode. What I described would not work there. Sorry to waste your reading time. 206.193.192.26 22:15, 10 October 2008 (UTC)
W/Me sig of humility/cry of pain (Light bringer skill): I had to switch from w/mo as my norn points were only at lvl 3 and ursan blessing wasnt working very well for me at that level.I ended up using. Mes hero 15inspiration/14illusion With sig of humility and illusion degen spells. Ele hero 16 fire/13 energy, sig of elemental power, searing flames, meteor shower.N/MM with death 16/soul reaping 13 blood 3-4,withering aura and jagged bones. Going into any boss fight i would have 6-10 minions. Henchmen: i used alesia and lina. I found that it was far easier to get to bosses with a healer hero, dropping the fire hero and adding orion instead of alesia. But i didnt have enough fire power to take down the monk boss and priest. I found it very helpful to pull the monk boss out of the den (the priest would stay behind, the minions would swarm all over him, i would run in with the party (pin them inside the den at this point) and take out priest. The king was leaving at 12 min. Also you have to take out the warrior boss first as he attacks the king.Micro 04:40, 12 February 2008 (UTC)
Extremely Easy win on HM with 3 Discord heroes, Orion and Claude. I was a Assassins Promise Monk spamming "You Move Like a Dwarf", "Finish Him", Ebon Vanguard Assassin Support, as-well as some like heals. Priests and bosses fell easily, just make sure to spike them with "Finish Him" when their health is low enough. Flaming Hot Chilli 08:01, 13 July 2009 (UTC)
- Agreed, though I don't use the Discordway build posted on PvX, though I imagine that works too. 76.104.92.105 23:23, 25 September 2009 (UTC)
Timer[edit]
The timer to rescue the king is not tied to the final room, it vanished before I entered the room because I was mapping the map. --The preceding unsigned comment was added by User:190.198.7.14 (talk).
- If i remember right, when i was mapping the zone i managed to trigger his dialogue (and timmer) somewhere between the first and second room. That was probably what happened to you also.--Fighterdoken 21:09, 29 July 2008 (UTC)
Sabway[edit]
The Sabway build (Or Triple Necro Vanquish as it's other name) accompanied by an Ursan player wipes the 3 Crystal Desert missions with ease, I periodically run the mission for people with it.Quetzal 19:00, 17 September 2008 (UTC)
- I would guess any team with 4 human players can wipe the missions easily, even in hard mode. Problem is beating the mission when you only have Prophecies and henchmen.--Fighterdoken 21:11, 17 September 2008 (UTC)
- I used Disway (discord variant of sabway) in this mission. It worked great but the ghostly hero had the bad habit of rushing in and getting killed. So: If you try this mission on Hardmode, do yourself a favor and speak to the hero right after he's opened a door. He'll stay at this door and you won't have to worry about him. 10 minutes for bonus??[edit]
Argh. I specifically timed myself so I would complete the final room in under 10 minutes, according to the article's advice. But at the 7:55 mark or so, I was informed I had failed the bonus. So why does the damn article say 10 minutes?? I'm sure he wasn't killed by any enemies, because I was in the middle of killing the very last enemy when the bonus failed: he (the enemy) went down a few seconds later, and the mission ended. --Mme. Donelle 08:30, 23 January 2009 (UTC)
- I think the 10 minutes timer (i have gotten close to 12, actually) starts when he begins to speak his dialogue. The problem is, there is a curve between the first and second area where you can trigger his dialogue by accident, meaning that once you get to the last area he will already be half through it. Safest way to avoid triggering him early is to hugh the left wall when walking from first to second.--Fighterdoken 18:20, 23 January 2009 (UTC)
- Hmm, that's what I thought. I noticed him start his dialogue at the beginning of the mission, but I don't think that made a difference -- he repeated the first line when I approached the final room. However, it took a while for me to enter the final room because I was paused in the corridor to check the wiki. I didn't think it mattered at the time because I had taken care to keep the Ghostly Hero away from the door, thus preventing the timer from starting, but I guess the stupid King doesn't care about the timer. I could have sworn I'd taken longer than 2-4 minutes, though. Sigh. I'll add this to the article. --Mme. Donelle 09:51, 24 January 2009 (UTC)
- I noticed him begin to talk as I came around the corner to the final room, but I still managed to get the bonus at around 10:30 on the timer.--71.139.193.43 06:04, 26 April 2010 (UTC)

Azura Scan, Good for this Mission?[edit]
What you think? Many bosses and important targets so I think it might be good. Teranda Whisperwind 13:17, 16 April 2009 (UTC)
- If you are the one dealing damage, sure. I tend to bring Barbs, because with my her MM there will be a buttload of minions ganging up on the bosses. --Arduinna 12:24, 16 April 2009 (UTC)
Broad Head Arrow[edit]
I used BHA to Huge effect in neutralizing Monks, Mesmers, Ele's and Rangers, Bosses in particular doing this mission heroes, hench. I recommend any BHA build here for M+B really easy. I think that BHA + epedemic + minions means full-shutdown here with few counters as enemies have little, if any condition removal.
Discord[edit]
Discord works pretty great here, since almost all enemies are fleshy (except the Enchanted), and there is enough corpses to have full army of minions. Barbe-Q Michael 8:08, 30 January 2010 (UTC)
Weird Naming Bug[edit]
Ran through this mission recently and hit upon a weird bug, the mesmer boss was named "Dune Lizard". Aside from that everything was normal, same skill level health just a weird name. I snapped a screen of it here: [1] 90.212.17.165 02:32, 18 July 2010 (UTC)
- Very very common bug. It can happen anywhere. Enemies and animals sometimes just switch names for no apparent reason :( | 72 | 03:11, 18 July 2010 (UTC)
- More like DOOM lizard amirite? Starlight 23:13, 16 May 2011 (UTC)
Forgotten Illusionist[edit]
It seems that the Forgotten illusionists are using Power Drain in hard mode but its not listed as a spell that they use.(64.251.92.74 21:20, 13 August 2010 (UTC))
- Please provide a screen shot I could not replicate your results. Perhaps you were interupted by the Enchanted Bow and had been dazed.--The Emmisary 21:52, 13 August 2010 (UTC)
It's in Thirsty River Mission during Hard Mode Screen shot here [2] (Indifferent Omnivore 03:45, 14 August 2010 (UTC))
- Alright, I'll add it to the list. Funny I couldn't get him to use it even thought I tried Meteor Shower.--The Emmisary 00:37, 15 August 2010 (UTC)
DARN! I was hoping you'd take it away from them.(64.251.92.74 07:31, 15 August 2010 (UTC))
Very hard[edit]
very hard mission for Me/N. I've tried more then 10 times in normal mode - and failed. Just once I made it to last boss Monk. Dunno how to go through ;( I've tried many combinations of henchmen+heroes and even plus summon and candy corn. --Rosenfeld 15:43, 19 December 2010 (UTC)

- Thanks, pal. I've just finished it and even with bonus. It's some kind of miracle. --Rosenfeld 16:12, 19 December 2010 (UTC)

Drunkard[edit]
It could be noted that because the timer counts up, it could be effectively used as an in-game timer for Drunkard. I'm not sure at what point you are thrown out, but I once sat in Thirsty River while doing things offline, went to bed, and woke up to find myself with a timer of 16:59:10. Bonus...[edit]
What's all this clobber about aggro on the king in the last room?
NM, N/R + five heroes (Koss/Dunk/Morg/Marg/MOX) + a Gaki from a Mysterious SStone. I stomped around the other rooms, then reached the third. I went in, and diverted hard to the right, following the implied suggestions, but nobody in any of the groups came even close to the king.
Is this another case of a mission that isn't nearly as hard as the description here on the wiki suggests? Both Arborstone and Boreas Seabed come across as quite difficult in the descriptions, but my warrior and his crew (even given the wonky no-melee build and team that he used for them) had no problems in either of them. And Nahpui Quarter with its advice to do special stuff to avoid having to take on large numbers of Essences (because they are hard to deal with): playing with the warrior, I merely found them annoying. Cynique 13:42, 26 July 2011 (UTC)
- In Hard Mode, the group in the third room does head almost directly for the king. I'm not sure about NM, I haven't been there in years. Generally, I think some of the wiki articles are written that way because (1) they used to be quite a bit harder, especially before Heroes, summoning stones, and PvE skills; (2) the articles go into a lot of detail about the group composition and counters to specific enemies, making it seem like a particular build is required/recommended.
- As for this mission, I guess a few runs are in order to sort out who attacks what when and possibly move that hint into the HM section. ~FarloTalk 13:58, 26 July 2011 (UTC)
What happened to ...[edit]
There used to be an entry in mission pages that pointed to the page for the town of the same name. However, it appears many have been deleted or changed, including this one. Can someone explain, please? It's no fun having to type the name into search again when you get to the wrong one. Daddicus 02:33, 17 February 2012 (UTC)
- It's still there, but we made it more concise:
- "This article is about a mission. This name is also used for an outpost and a Zaishen mission."
- Instead of repeating the same name once for each similar article, we don't repeat it at all. Instead of forcing ppls to figure out which link to click, we provide only one link per article. Instead of having a disambiguation note that is so long that it needs its own disambiguation instructions, ...we have as simple a statement as possible. – Tennessee Ernie Ford (TEF) 02:53, 17 February 2012 (UTC)
- OK, that seems OK to me. If you hover over the link, it shows the actual page in the status bar (at least in IE).
- Thanks for the note! Jim Daddicus 02:56, 17 February 2012 (UTC)
An Edit That Prolonged Its Time[edit]
Much like the Forgotten, I guess. I made a quick edit in King Khimaar's dialogue, as there was one line missing... after about seven years of inactivity on this page. ;P Kroff 07:50, 2 July 2019 (UTC)
