Can I make a page for my Alliance event?
Hi there. My alliance is hosting a cross continent hide-and-go-seek event over Easter called "Find Bunny". We are two alliances together (1 luxon 1 kurzick) with approximately 1800 members. In short, to win players must solve a riddle, figure out who the bunny is, then hunt her down to claim the prize. At first I intended to post the riddle and details solely on our forum, but wondered if it would be possible to create a simple page on wiki to help players access the riddle from in game. If someone could please let me know if this is possible, and where I could do it, I'd be most grateful. If this isn't something wiki supports, then that's fine, I'll just have to hope our forum copes with the demand over Easter :) --Angel 12:34, 21 March 2008 (UTC)
- I am not sure, we allow pages for th rawr cup and other events but im still not sure :S --Shadowphoenix 14:29, 21 March 2008 (UTC)
- I'm not against that page, but you would probably be best off creating it as a subpage of the alliance leading guild's page. Maybe even a duplicate page so there's one for both alliances. Then put a prominent link on the alliance leading guild's main page. Calor 15:11, 21 March 2008 (UTC)
- Thank you for your prompt replies. I realise it's not entirely an obvious answer, hence why I asked the question, so thank you for having a think about it. I have drafted the page I wanted to make and posted it as my user page for now (since I had nothing in there anyway). I'm not sure how to copy the content of it to a subpage of the alliance leading guild's page though...I'm still learning about how/where to make pages --Angel 16:14, 21 March 2008 (UTC)
- Heh :). What's the name of the head guild in both alliances? Calor 16:13, 21 March 2008 (UTC)
- Feel free to have a look at my user page if you want to know more, and please let me know if you think the content can go on another more appropriate page :)--Angel 16:54, 21 March 2008 (UTC)
- Perhaps at Guild:Passionate Kiss Of Nosferatu/Find Bunny, assuming Find Bunny is the name of your event. By the way, the event sounds like fun. I hope you all enjoy it! Calor 17:03, 21 March 2008 (UTC)
- Thanks very much, I might do that actually. The problem is the Kurzick KISS leader guild is called something else, but I think I could manage with links and such. Thanks again :) --Angel 17:41, 21 March 2008 (UTC)

HTTP 501/505 when trying to update nickname
I'm trying this out, but for some reason, it won't let me paste this into the Nickname field under my preferences. It just gives me a page saying "This page cannot be displayed," with an HTTP 501 error (page has not been implemented)/HTTP 505 error (version not supported). - Generally, it's best to pick popular/default fonts, simply because there's less of a chance that someone won't have it. I think the number of fonts you can use is pretty gigantic, but like elviondale or Brains pointed out, some users might not have those fonts, and thus see a blank space instead of a signature.
- I was trying to dig up something I read before on the subject; you can set multiple fonts I believe, so if one doesn't work, it'll use the next one instead, etc... that way, if a user doesn't have "One Stroke Script LET", they'll see something like "Times New Roman" instead, or whatever you choose.
- ...hmm... and on that note, I don't have One Stroke Script LET. But since I'm on Firefox, I'm seeing a different font instead, so it's no problem. -- Jïörüjï Ðērākō.>.cнаt^ 04:51, 26 March 2008 (UTC)

Anyway to make the CURRENTTIME template use a different time zone and not use military time? Also, why doesn't the time auto update itself? — ク Eloc 貢 20:49, 29 March 2008 (UTC)
- Since MediaWiki "compiles" (caches) the pages when it is invalidated — such as when a template in use on the page is updated, or when you're editing the page in question — CURRENTTIME can only be updated when said cache is invalidated. Also, the only way to make it use another time zone is by using . To add 5 hours to CURRENTTIME, try:

Guildwiki vs Official Wiki
Is there / can there be a brief page dedicated to the differences (policies, images, major category/template changes, general overall feel, etc) between Guildwiki and this one? The sentiment over there seems to be "at least this isn't GWW" and I'd just like to know what all that entails. I have my own opinion, but I'd like to know what I'm getting into before I "switch" to this one. ;) -- Peej 12:39, 2 April 2008 (UTC)
- a) there are no ads b)really, no ads at all c)belive it, no ads d)there are no or only few people saying "at least we're not on guildwiki" or "guildwiki sucks" e)unlike gw, gww is mature f)gww is making way more progress than gwiki, because it's, well, official, so people know about it. of course that also means more noobs, maybe (haven't checked that on gwiki for some months). oh, btw, i don't think there will be a page for that since it's actually everyone's own job to get to know both wikis and decide which one they prefer ^^ - Y0_ich_halt 14:52, 2 April 2008 (UTC)
- GuildWiki doesn't have nearly as complicated policies, while GWW tends to be a little cleaner as a result. On the other hand, policies here occasionally get in the way of enforcing them, while GuildWiki gives a lot of freedom to it's admins. GuildWiki; friendly userbase (more or less). GWW; bigger userbase (still friendly as well, of course). Biggest factor is the Wikia deal at the moment, I'd say... if that doesn't actually bother you, then simply edit the one that seems easier for you. (or both.) -- Jïörüjï Ðērākō.>.cнаt^ 16:38, 2 April 2008 (UTC)
- I think the biggest pros for GWW are that it is supported from official site, so we get contents/information directly from the developers, and that most really active GuildWiki-contributors switched to GWW so that they do not contribute on GW any longer (or at least very less).
- And, Y0, I think you missed the missing ads on GWW. poke | talk 17:20, 2 April 2008 (UTC)

- I don't think there should be a page detailing the differences, since we should not define ourselves based on how we are different, but based on what we are (which can be observed by digging in and giving it a go). Also, the subject is bound to bring up touchy feelings from people who believe one is "better" than the other. You're much better off reading the relevant policy settings on both, and giving both a try. In all fairness, there's also INC wiki. ;) Biscuits 17:54, 2 April 2008 (UTC)

I'd say one of the major letdowns of guildwiki is the fact that Recent Changes is now usually cluttered with user talk changes, by those people they call sysops.
This could be considered a good thing, ofcourse, but I don't like it. -- Mini Me 18:22, 2 April 2008 (UTC)
GuildWiki is what happens after a wiki is corrupted by me; I'm still in the process of corrupting this one.
More seriously, GuildWiki is dying -- many or most of the prolific editors who didn't leave after I wiped the builds left after Gravewit sold us out to Wikia. Its community now is a hollow shell of what it once was.
I'm cripplingly biased, though, so my comments are irrelevant.
—Tanaric 07:38, 8 April 2008 (UTC)
- My take on the differences are that GWW has a much more active user base as far as adding content. Thus our content is now MUCH more complete and accurate than GuildWiki. They have some areas that have not been updated since Factions. This combined with the previously mentioned direct support from Anet makes GWW the most up to date Guild Wars wiki going. So in terms of game documentation I feel that GWW is hands down the best source, but I agree that as far as differences in policy and how policy affects the community, you should just try both and decide for yourself. -- Wynthyst 15:37, 8 April 2008 (UTC)
- I wouldn't venture to say that GWW is "MUCH" MUCH more complete and accurate than GuildWiki. It's only in certain areas, and we're still losing out on other areas (especially the older stuff that very few people play now). I would rather think that at the moment, both wikis complement each other. -- ab.er.rant 17:18, 8 April 2008 (UTC)

That specific template calls for an image in the mainspace, which unfortunately won't be able to include user images. I have no idea how to help, but that's what's happening. - Interesting, why must the user name be on there? Halogod35 01:20, 3 April 2008 (UTC)
- Thanks Calor! I think what you're asking, Halogod, is that why must a user image include the username? That makes it so that we're all able to upload our images with whatever names we like, that won't interfere with the documentation of a game (the purpose of the wiki). So like, if I wanted to upload the picture "I am the greatest ever.jpg," and then Calor wanted to upload another picture also called "I am the greatest ever.jpg," there would be a problem. Then, all of the sudden, there's a new skill added to the game, a shout called "I am the greatest ever!" and someone wants to upload the skill icon/whatever for that skill... get what I mean? The policy on naming makes it so that there aren't conflicts. It's confusing, but once you get the hang of it... well once I got the hang of it... I realized it was a good idea. (P.S., I'm just a regular wiki user like you, so people correct me if I'm wrong ;P) MiraLantis 01:26, 3 April 2008 (UTC)
- I know that, I meant on the user box template... or is that what you just answered? Halogod35 01:27, 3 April 2008 (UTC)
- Looks like it. It's at least what Cursed Angel is doing. Maybe ask him? MiraLantis 01:33, 3 April 2008 (UTC)

Tables again
What parameter is it that aligns a collapsible table to the left? You see, I want to make tables that line up in a row on my user page. I used this code:
--People of Antioch 22:26, 6 April 2008 (UTC)
- I think the part that makes it centered is the
margin: 10px auto;
. Setting the margin as auto should have that effect, and removing the margin statement seems to help. - anja 22:53, 6 April 2008 (UTC)- Also, maybe enclosing the tables into a

Okay, how do you get them together on the same line? I have this:
which is also in my sandbox. --People of Antioch 05:32, 8 April 2008 (UTC)
- hmm... perhaps try adding "align" codes to the boxes?
- I'm not entirely sure if that will work for stacking them side-by-side, unless you have one aligned "right" and the other "left". I think if you set two of them to align "left", and make sure there's no extra linebreaks between them, they should stack as well. For example:
- It might take some fiddling around, but they should work on the same line. Don't forget, if one's too wide, they'll automatically linebreak themselves to fit, so you might need to manually set a maximum width so they'll fit properly. -- Jïörüjï Ðērākō.>.cнаt^ 07:45, 8 April 2008 (UTC)

Skill table for user page
On my Userpage I have a section called Skill ideas. Now I want to put them in a table like the Template:Skill table but I don't know how to do this. What is the best way do this? --Horsedrowner 09:55, 8 April 2008 (UTC)
- That template uses DPL so you can't use it directly. You'll have to manually code up the table. You can try looking at other tables around the wiki on how the code works and you can also look at the help on tables. -- ab.er.rant 10:36, 8 April 2008 (UTC)
- Take a look at it now :P It looks pretty good I think :P --Horsedrowner 14:46, 8 April 2008 (UTC)

While fixing a suggestion page thatt had it's data dumped (mine) I accidentally made the page User:Done25/Done25's Discussion. How do I get rid of it? Done25 22:48, 8 April 2008 (UTC)
- Tag it for deletion (just put a delete template on it) and a sysop will remove it for you. (Aiiane - talk - contribs) 23:11, 8 April 2008 (UTC)
Guild Cape Image
I've tryed to update my guild cape, but I've had little success. The Guild is The Goonies, please help :). thanks --Meltdown U S N 02:19, 9 April 2008 (UTC)
- Go here and upload the new version from your computer. Make sure you're uploading the version you want (after clicking browse, when you find the image, you can right-click it and hit preview before clicking the Open button). ¬ Wizårdbõÿ777(talk) 02:25, 9 April 2008 (UTC)
- It'd be helpful if you actually try to explain what sort of trouble you're having instead of a generic "little success". -- ab.er.rant 02:44, 9 April 2008 (UTC)
- If you are talking about the in-game cape, remember that it is the job of the Guild Leader. If you were trying to change the cape for your guild's wiki article, you need to wait a few minutes (or a couple of hours even) for the changes to be shown.--Fighterdoken 05:40, 9 April 2008 (UTC)
Uploading picture
I have uploaded a picture onto the wiki, but I am unsure of how to put it on a page. Please help! --Burning Freebies 13:57, 9 April 2008 (UTC)
