River Drake Broodmother[edit]

There is a giant river drake broodmother just outside Ashford. She is surrounded by her brood... just like the early dynamic event in Kryta from GW2. There is also an NPC called Fisherman Justin in Ashford who thanks you for dealing with the drakes and can go back to fihing, similair to the previously mentioned dynamic event. 122.111.186.46 08:06, 1 April 2012 (UTC)

He actually runs up the hill towards where you come from, shouting "There’s a broodmother down by mill! Hurry, kill it before someone gets eaten!". It's pretty awesome. User Purple llama sig.png purple llama 08:22, 1 April 2012 (UTC)
You also get a Drake Kabob for killing him. Save your interrupt for Light of Dwayna (not that the drakes are hard to kill a second time). 122.111.186.46 08:45, 1 April 2012 (UTC)
You can also get a weapon that ranges from blue to gold rarity. Onoros 10:48, 1 April 2012 (UTC)
Funny how you get a 'cooked' drake kabob from defeating a fresh/raw river drake (unless you're an elemetalist roasting them with flare). It's not like theres anyone that knew how to place a chunk of raw meat over a fire to cook in Ascalon. -Wrei110.175.241.56 12:57, 1 April 2012 (UTC)

If this is what the dynamic events in GW2 are like I'm going to miss a lot of them, or at least miss the start. I did the quest (and killed the drake) about 5 times before I saw that guy, mainly because I was coming down from the devourer cave rather than through town. I imagined it more like people running around screaming constantly, not one guy jogging along the path occasionally mentioning that he's seen a drake. 86.150.26.197 09:05, 2 April 2012 (UTC)

GW2 is supposed to alert players better of dynamic events. Remember this is GW1 they might need to spend alot of time to make a proper alert for everyone with the current mechanics. Besides the drake alert doesnt happen untill you come close enough, I also went to the devourer cave first and he didnt start shouting untill I was almost in the village --Kilaa1000 11:20, 2 April 2012 (UTC)

Terminator 2 References[edit]

It might easier to cluster all of these together, there are some obvious and some less obvious. The Vanguard reputation amount is the same year that the movie takes place (1995). 122.111.186.46 08:08, 1 April 2012 (UTC)

I think there's some Thundercats references too, a bandit firestarter just said "*Great Snarf*" 86.150.26.197 08:33, 1 April 2012 (UTC)
I would expect that the *CLASSIFIED INFORMATION* censors are a reference to The Melancholy of Haruhi Suzumiya, given that John Stumme is apparently a big fan.
Could be more generic than that, though. – NuclearDuckie 09:06, 1 April 2012 (UTC)
I think so, since the one using that expression incessantly in that series is a time traveler too. MithUser MithranArkanere Star.pngTalk 09:45, 1 April 2012 (UTC)
There's also the Beam thing....--109.65.141.240 00:36, 3 April 2012 (UTC)

G1000 is an obvious reference to T-1000 - the name, changing shape, imperishable until cast into lava.89.68.188.46 09:21, 1 April 2012 (UTC)

'G' for golem (my second guess was glob). Very cute. -Wrei110.175.241.56 12:32, 1 April 2012 (UTC)

The 2029 experience reward must be a reference as to what year GW2 will finally be available. 98.193.140.14 21:17, 1 April 2012 (UTC)

Talking to yourself[edit]

Not sure how to put this in the article, but if you talk to yourself you get some custom text based on your profession:

Necro: "I really don't get people who train to be anything other than a Necromancer. I figure once I get three other Necromancers, we can just do everything ourselves."
Warrior: "So I've got this great idea for a skill combination. First, I Hamstring them with a sword, then I cast Firestorm while they can't leave. What do you think? I just need to find someone who can teach me Hamstring and I'm set!"

User Purple llama sig.png purple llama 08:25, 1 April 2012 (UTC)

Ranger is "You know, I got this great Charm Animal skill from my trainer earlier, but I haven't been able to train a pet yet. Those stupid bears keep interrupting me." 86.150.26.197 08:34, 1 April 2012 (UTC)

Assassin, "How did I get here from Cantha? Shadow Step accident."--Toroquin User Toroquin Toro icon.png 09:24, 1 April 2012 (UTC)

Derv: "You came through an Asuran time portal too? Can you take me back when you leave? First Spear Devhad is probably wondering where I am." 86.150.26.197 09:37, 1 April 2012 (UTC)
Monk: "I hope you guys don't mind, but I'm a smiting Monk." I've seen so many monks in the game say this haha. My monk was from Cantha though, I don't know if there is a difference. 122.111.186.46 09:44, 1 April 2012 (UTC)
It was the same for my Ascalonian Monk, so no difference here. 213.166.194.139 09:47, 1 April 2012 (UTC)

Mesmer: "When am I gonna learn a Balthazar-blasted interrupt?"

I still troll pvp sometimes with hamstorm on my warrior, so when I saw the dialogue about inventing hamstorm it made my day. Xdhx Droppin Plates (talk) User Plates Plates sig5.png 13:07, 2 April 2012 (UTC)

Inspiring Rurik[edit]

I actually burst out laughing when he said about learning from the golem rushing headlong into battle. I kind of love that it's indirectly our fault. 86.150.26.197 08:31, 1 April 2012 (UTC)

Well, it's no secret ANet designers have made "rushing headlong into battle" a staple of quest and mission NPCs, so perhaps it's just some lighthearted self-flaggelation. I was thinking this time, "Oh good, at least these guys are following rather than leading this time." But, I guess no proper quest is complete without at least one suicidal idiot moment--in this case, Mhenlo--but at least he only did it once. That aside, one thing I can say is I do like their rather dry, and sometimes pretty esoteric, sense of humor. This quest has quite a bit of that, making the experience a fun run. Kruhljak (talk) 13:37, 1 April 2012 (UTC)

Misc Comments[edit]

I don't know if it's worth putting into the article but if you explore Lakeside County various NPCs will make comments on the golem. A lot of them are probably references to things. 86.150.26.197 08:38, 1 April 2012 (UTC)

I also keep seeing people say things about a sick daughter and everyone wanting to visit Ciglo. Is this a reference to some GW2 quest? 122.111.186.46
Never mind, it's just generic NPC talk. I'm not too familair with the normal pre NPC convos, I just didn't recognise any of the names. 122.111.186.46 08:54, 1 April 2012 (UTC)
I haven't seen all of these exchanges, but some are definitely not typical of pre-searing. The first one you come across if you follow the q-marker is the trio in the amphitheater chatting about a new play. Amusing, and definitely not anything from pre-searing. Regardless, it's "trivial" things like that that make exploring the nooks and crannies of new areas/quests worthwhile, not to mention the pack of side options available in this one. Kruhljak (talk) 13:42, 1 April 2012 (UTC)

Wurm Queen[edit]

If you start killing the level 0 wurm mobs that spawn in the field outside Ashford Abby a bunch of level 10 ones will spawn. Continue to kill them and I think it's level 18 then 23 (they get progressively bigger each time) until finally a giant Wurm Queen mob will spawn. When you kill her she spawns a chest which drops, at least for me, a Birthday Cupcake. 122.111.186.46 08:44, 1 April 2012 (UTC)

Had to laugh at how ridiculous such gargantuous monsters existed in small crop field in newbie pre-sear. Those would have wiped out ascalon without the Searing. -Wrei110.175.241.56 12:46, 1 April 2012 (UTC)
Oh, no, I don't think so. My take was that this quest takes place just moments before the searing. So, the magic of the charr is nearly complete, and these things are coming up from the center of the world somehow (perhaps as part of the spell itself, or to escape it). Good thing for us wonderful heroes that spare Ascalon from an even worse searing than they ended up with.
Actually I think those wurms were a reference to LoZ OoT, the stalchildren at night as a kid, you keep killing them and they keep getting bigger. [1] those guys. anyone remember that?174.100.25.69 22:16, 2 April 2012 (UTC)
Well, it seemed logical to ME, anyhow. :) Daddicus 01:04, 2 April 2012 (UTC)
My guess is that the 'queen' players killed is just a young queen. And when that one is killed, her mother gets angry and comes there. And when the you from the future kills more wurms, the old queen has already arrived with her little court of wurms that are sent to kill you one after another, and when they fail, she pops to take matters into her own hands... err... jaws. MithUser MithranArkanere Star.pngTalk 01:31, 2 April 2012 (UTC)
Or rather, the levels don't matter for crud when it comes to strength in lore. If it did, why didn't the charr just send their level 20+s instead of level 5s to combat the nation of lvl 2s? Konig/talk 03:58, 2 April 2012 (UTC)
Actually I think those wurms were a reference to LoZ OoT, the stalchildren at night as a kid, you keep killing them and they keep getting bigger. [2] those guys. anyone remember that?174.100.25.69 22:18, 2 April 2012 (UTC)
Its not about the level but more rather the ridiculous size and species of the wurm thats appearing, Konig. -Wrei110.175.241.56 12:47, 3 April 2012 (UTC)

Molotov Rocktail[edit]

When you go into the devourer cave (the one where you chase down eggs) as you kill devourers, more and more will begin to pop up out of the ground. Once you kill the final devourer in the cave a younger Molotov Rocktail will spawn out of the ground and use devourer siege then attack you. Along with him spawns a bunch of devourers. Once you kill him, a chest spawns that drops (for me) three honeycombs. 122.111.186.46 09:05, 1 April 2012 (UTC)

Check that about killing Molotov. He turns neutral when near death and runs away (thus surviving up til EoTN). Didn't follow him cause there were additional fodder spawns keeping me occupied then. -Wrei110.175.241.56 12:07, 1 April 2012 (UTC)
It runs north to Regent Valley's zone portal and leaves through there further north. MithUser MithranArkanere Star.pngTalk 12:22, 1 April 2012 (UTC)

Alain[edit]

If you engage him other bandits will pop up and attack you. If you defeat them you get a hard apple cider, pretty much rounding out the list of items you need for the hearts of the north fetch quest.

Actually, if you defeat just Alain the cider will drop. Oddly, though, when I killed Alain--well away from the center of the camp--the cider still dropped about where the Ashford strongbox is normally found. Unfortunately, I wasn't aware of the wad of bandits that would spring up out of the ground when I got Alain down to about 20% (or so), so I was swarmed and finished off before I even realized what was happening. Kruhljak (talk) 12:15, 1 April 2012 (UTC)
Addenda: Um, maybe I should be following quest markers instead of wandering about randomly, and alone. Just might've made things a tad easier with some help. Duh me. ;-) Kruhljak (talk) 12:22, 1 April 2012 (UTC)

Youtube walkthrough[edit]

Is there anyone who will upload a youtube video about the full quest? I don't want to re-install gw client for a 10-20 minutes quest. Please link here.

Here you go. It's actually about 45 minutes or more killing everything and running around.--Relyk 12:00, 1 April 2012 (UTC)
And as as aside, it can be done in (at least) as little as [edit] 14 minutes by following only the main quest line. Kruhljak (talk) 16:09, 1 April 2012 (UTC)
i dont understand why would you have to reinstall gw to do the quest again, i was under the impression they were repeatable.Spark-TBa 15:54, 2 April 2012 (UTC)

Tossing in lava[edit]

I found you don't actually have to use Annihilator Toss, simply stand next to the lava and he'll jump into the lava all by himself with Beguiling Haze and Viper's Defense.--Relyk 09:35, 1 April 2012 (UTC)

Player NPC Skills & Equipment[edit]

Post the player NPC builds and equipment here.

Monk: Banish, Bane Signet, Healing Breeze. She was also using a Smiting Staff and Roughspun Armor.

Ritualist: Bloodsong, Pain, Spirit Boon Strike, Generous was Tsunagrai. He was also using a Spiritbinder and Shing Jea Armor. I don't know if it matters that I have the Factions pre-order weapons. It's also worth noting that when he drops the bundle (or when you Ctrl + Click on your historic self) the game calls them Familiar-Looking Hero. 122.111.186.46 09:45, 1 April 2012 (UTC)

I don't have the Factions pre-order weapons available, and my retro-Rit was also wielding the same staff. Kruhljak (talk) 12:35, 1 April 2012 (UTC)
Dervish : Heart of Holy Flame, Vital Boon, Pious Assault, Signet of Pious Light 213.166.194.139 09:50, 1 April 2012 (UTC)
Assassin: Jagged Strike, Fox Fangs, Nine Tail Strike, Shadow Refuge. He was wearing Shing Jea armor and weilding Dragon Fangs. I also noticed my dervish was using the Soulbreaker.
Paragon: Spear of Lightning, Barbed Spear, Anthem of Flame, Leader's Comfort. Both Paragons and Dervishes wear Istani Armor. My paragon was weilding a Suntouched Spear and a Daedal Shield.
Ranger: Power Shot, Dual Shot, Ignite Arrows, Troll Unguent. Wearing Rawhide armor and wielding a Dragon Hornbow (at least the same skin). No pet unfortunately (claimed he couldn't tame a bear although I did tame the bear in pre). 122.111.186.46 10:01, 1 April 2012 (UTC)
It seems to be a random weapon each time; playing twice now with an elementalist; the first time he had an Air Staff (normal), and this time Fire Staff (core). Same skills, though; Flare, Firestorm, Lightning Javelin and Aura of Restoration. Also Krytan Armor and sans (visible) headgear. -Yossitaru 10:23, 1 April 2012 (UTC)
I think the core classes might have random equipment, but I keep seeing my four expansion classes with the pre-order weapons. Necro: Life Siphon, Deathly Swarm, Vampiric Gaze. Necro was wearing Initiate's Armor. I think it's safe to assume all classes will be wearing their starter armour, and while core classes might vary in their weapons, expansion classes will always have the pre-order weapons (no idea about paragon shields). Mesmer: Conjure Phantasm, Shatter Dellusions, Ether Feast. 122.111.186.46 10:28, 1 April 2012 (UTC)

Warrior: Sever Artery, Gash, Healing Signet. Wearing Long Sword, Tower Shield, Warrior Ascalon armor

steins gate referance[edit]

the dialogue ' this too was the choice of the asura time gate ' reminds me of ' this too is the choice of steins gate ' from the anime/manga/game steins gate (about time travel) Getefix 10:39, 1 April 2012 (UTC)

Cracked me up when I saw this. Anet confirmed for bros (I have a feeling John Stumme added it). User Karuro Icon.png Karuro 12:43, 1 April 2012 (UTC)

Rabbit[edit]

It's listed here as an NPC during the quest, but when I looked for it I couldn't find it. Is it possible he either doesn't always show up or sometimes gets killed by skales? I'll have to look into this. 64.15.81.27 11:11, 1 April 2012 (UTC)

Someone might have just coppied the NPCs over (seeing as most of them are the same with minor additions and exclusions). I didn't see the rabbit either. 122.111.186.46 12:24, 1 April 2012 (UTC)
I think the rabbit in the normal map is invincible. Of course it's impossible to test some things like Agony (which even affects the non-targetable grey cows in Cantha) but I'm pretty sure you can't hurt it with your skills and enemies ignore it, so it seems unlikely this one would get killed. But when I went up on that hill there were two scale queens and no rabbit. 86.150.26.197 12:28, 1 April 2012 (UTC)
I removed the Rabbit, but someone keeps re-adding it. So I'd like to know where is it. MithUser MithranArkanere Star.pngTalk 20:18, 3 April 2012 (UTC)
It's not there. It should be removed from the list and NOT PUT BACK!!! (unless of course somebody has a screenshot showing it is actually there...) 64.15.81.27 01:57, 4 April 2012 (UTC)

Poison/Disease[edit]

Is it worth mentioning that the golem you drive is subject to the conditions that the golem you killed in the previous april fool's was immune to? AKA you are treated as fleshy. I'm quite new to the game, so I'm not sure if this happens whenever you drive a golem, nor do I know if it's a bug or a limitation of the system. Onoros 11:16, 1 April 2012 (UTC)

Disguises only modify the character model, not any other properties.--Relyk 11:49, 1 April 2012 (UTC)
That depends in the disguise or form. The Avatar of Melandru once made you immune to conditions, the current Avatar of Grenth makes you immune to disease. The same effect could have been used here, but it was not used for some reason. Maybe as a joke, since the original Terminator was "fleshy". MithUser MithranArkanere Star.pngTalk 12:20, 1 April 2012 (UTC)

Weapon choice.[edit]

Even though attacks under golem form are melee, wouldn't a scythe be the best weapon to equip since you hit multiple foes and thus gain adrenaline more quickly to fuel the beam attack? Dunno if equipping anything else will attack only single foes. Need to test further later. -Wrei110.175.241.56 12:39, 1 April 2012 (UTC)

Decieving the G-1000[edit]

I have added information how to decieve golem in catacombs (in walkthrough section), nevertheless English is not my first language so I would appreciate revising it. Soul123 13:11, 1 April 2012 (UTC)

GW2 links[edit]

Sometimes when you as golem are attacking. It says Great Snaff!! A hint of Snaff from Destiný Edge team? The Asura that constructed all the golems for the team? --82.156.55.28 15:32, 1 April 2012 (UTC)

A reference to him, sure, but nothing more. It's April first, remember :p 184.17.80.133 15:37, 1 April 2012 (UTC)
The Drake Broodmother is a reference to the drake event in the human starting area of GW2. It even includes a fisherman who thanks you for killing the drake. 122.111.186.46 17:42, 1 April 2012 (UTC)
The "Great Snaff" line always makes me think of Doc's "Great Scott!" from Back to the Future. 64.15.81.27 01:59, 4 April 2012 (UTC)

Gwen dialogue[edit]

Did no one think to talk to Gwen? She seems to be rather calm and understanding of time mechanics, as her reply when talked to is: "Now, remember: you can't kill anyone. Except the bad golem, I guess." I would upload a screenshot but I have no program for that right now.--Cyberman User Cyberman Mastermind Sig.gif 15:45, 1 April 2012 (UTC)

I guess theyre used to situations like this. After all Rurik says his father always told him to trust strangers from the future. I guess Gwen got the same education ;)--82.156.55.28 16:20, 1 April 2012 (UTC)
Anyone who did talk to her probably just wrote it off as one of the many dialogue quotes that were almost exactly lifted from Terminator 2. In this scenario she is John Conner and he said that to the terminator in the movie because he was just blowing everything up. 122.111.186.46 17:09, 1 April 2012 (UTC)

She also tells the golem to listen to how people speak and to say 'okie dokie' instead of affirmative. Except for the one word (I forget what John said in the movie but I don't think he'd ever say 'okie dokie') that's pretty much exactly one of his lines. Maybe, like John, Gwen had been raised on her mothers stories of time travelling golems and was practically expecting it. (Shame no one mentioned the Searing and being a Charr prisoner). 86.150.26.197 18:40, 1 April 2012 (UTC)

Oh, she also asked the golem if it hurts when it gets hit, which is another of Johns lines. 86.150.26.197 18:42, 1 April 2012 (UTC)
Can we get a list of these Gwen dialogues on the quest page. I notice there was also one about Gwen hoping her future husband isn't wishy-washy. -Wrei110.175.241.56 00:47, 2 April 2012 (UTC)

Misc Monologue[edit]

There are a number of "random" comments made by both Rurik and your retro-self which aren't part of the general dialog tree, and which aren't noted on the front page. I'm not sure how these should be parsed into what's already there (in keeping with page protcol), so I'll just note a couple here (left quotes off to preserve internal quotes literally). I assume there are more. Feel free to add and incorporate to the main page if it seems worthwhile. Kruhljak (talk) 16:48, 1 April 2012 (UTC)

  • Rurik
You know, I meant to send out a scouting party to see what the Charr have been up to lately, but I think it can wait one more day.
You know there are only five gods right now? I bet I'd make a good sixth god.
When I was younger, I planted a promising sapling in the Shiverpeaks with my father... Tell me, in the future, how tall has it grown?
One of these days, I'm gonna do something important, you'll see. [note: this might've been from your retro-self--screenshot had Rurik and retro-self overlapped]
I'll stick close to you. Running off alone would be suicide.
  • Retro-Self
Ugh! I knew I shouldn't have taken these skills. I don't suppose we can go back to an outpost?
  • Gwen
You have to listen to the way people talk. You don't say "affirmative," you say "okie dokie."
I hid my flute earlier, but I can't remember where I put it.
The comment about the tree he planted, is he referring to the one that lands on him in the landslide on the way out of the Shiverpeaks? I can't think of any other notable trees in the Shiverpeaks. 122.111.186.46 17:11, 1 April 2012 (UTC)
Actually, the "You know there are only five gods right now? I bet I'd make a good sixth god." is from your retro-self, as well as the "I'm gonna do something important". These are references to your adventures in the future, specially the one where Kormir steals your right to be a freaking god.

Additionally, there's one more comment made by Rurik (The best one):

  • "I hope this doesn't ruin my Survivor title."

--talk Large 17:20, 1 April 2012 (UTC)

@ elveh, the "I'll stick close to you. Running off alone would be suicide." line is said by both Rurik and the human, so I don't think its unlikely they could share a pool (both my allies said their lines at the same time, and randomly was a duplicate of the other) File:User Chieftain Alex Chieftain Signature.jpg Chieftain Alex 18:33, 1 April 2012 (UTC)
@Elveh, if that's the case, it's way more funny if it comes from Rurik, seeing as he does not survive the trek through the Shiverpeaks. --talk Large 20:37, 1 April 2012 (UTC)
I don't recall seeing "running off would be suicide" coming from the Familiar Hero fella - he does, however, say the survivor line, which likewise I haven't seen coming from Rurik (the line is a joke on Survivor, not Rurik's death which is the suicide line about). Konig/talk 20:44, 1 April 2012 (UTC)
Didn't see this one the first few times through, but just had Rurik say this twice, "The Charr can have my sword when they pry it from my cold, dead hands." ;_; He was annoying as shite but this bit of foreshadowing made me very sad.--Gwenar Leours 22:02, 1 April 2012 (UTC)

I thought something like this might be the case, I just didn't bother heading back there (or somewhere else on the map) to see if there was more to their dialogue. I ended up writing it off as some reference I didn't care to figure out. Next time a quest like this has so many things to discover and explore, it might be a good idea to give us a speed boost on our skill bar. It was annoying moving so slowly all the time, especially when all you wanted to do was explore different locations. 122.111.186.46 07:15, 3 April 2012 (UTC)
That's cool. But I only see the first part of the scene.. how do u see the other 2 parts? --Combatter 07:46, 3 April 2012 (UTC)
I'm guessing it would trigger after you either talk to Rurik and your historic self the first time (outside of Ascalon) or after you complete one of the optional encounters. The other obvious trigger would be the second dialogue (with Gwen) or after talking to Mhenlo. I don't think anyone did that this weekend so I'm guessing we will have to wait for next year to see to other two part of the encounter seeing as it is no longer available. 122.111.186.46 11:36, 3 April 2012 (UTC)

Warmaster Grast[edit]

Comments on the golem, saying "Is that one of them new fangled canthan ornamental statues?" 70.92.10.102 23:10, 1 April 2012 (UTC)

Weapon/Armor affect Golem?[edit]

Does your AL, weapon mods, etc affect you when you're the golem? If it did, it would seem that casters would have a rough time with this. 67.221.101.146 00:25, 2 April 2012 (UTC)

Don't think so. Just went through it twice with my ele easily, and I took no special precautions.97.71.72.184 05:29, 2 April 2012 (UTC)

Mehnlo FTW[edit]

Something else to note in the tactics for this mission. Mehnlo won't follow the party around, but he will heal anyone who is damaged. When dealing with Alain, he can be pulled a couple compasses away from his spawn point, separating him from the spawns when at low health. You can then run back, heal, then deal with the pops. This also works to great effect when fighting the worms, as they will move to the player if you aggro then run away, so run back to Mehnlo. The big bad worms will follow, and can be easily dealt with one at a time while Mehhlo acts as a healer. 70.92.10.102 03:34, 2 April 2012 (UTC)

Every piece of dialogue in this quest seems to be some kind of reference[edit]

And I love it. Mhenlo's comment about building an abbey over a dungeon that leads to the underworld is clearly a Diablo reference. I didn't catch it at first but laughed heartily when I did. --58.165.11.128 03:56, 2 April 2012 (UTC)

ashford abbey, leads to catacombs (could be classed as a dungeon in factual terms (not gw terms)) and theres a statue of grenth in there which indicates the lead to the underworld. that makes more sence to me personally.Spark-TBa 16:04, 2 April 2012 (UTC)

Meerak[edit]

What was he doing in the depth of catatombs just before searing??--61.219.36.201 04:32, 2 April 2012 (UTC)

Surviving. The Charr nuke couldn't hit him that far underground. :) Daddicus 05:15, 2 April 2012 (UTC)

HP and Energy[edit]

1024 and 64, respectively. Why these seemingly arbitrary numbers? Are these numbers a reference to something? Or is it just because golems are "computers" with life and energy based on binary? --MushaUser Musha Sigc.png 06:32, 2 April 2012 (UTC)

In computing memory usually comes in multiples of 8. And CPU architecture in multiples of 2. Thus hinting it 1024 'memory' and 64-bit 'processor'. It's like when Zinn said MOX had 'dual cores'. MithUser MithranArkanere Star.pngTalk 08:42, 2 April 2012 (UTC)
It could also be a reference to the Commodore 64, since it had 64kbit ram and 1.023 MHz CPU, so in consistant units, 64kbit memory and 1023kHz CPU.72.253.181.235 07:12, 3 April 2012 (UTC) too lazy to sign in.
1024 is close to 1023, but it is not 1023. It would be better to ask directly. So many references in just a single quest... MithUser MithranArkanere Star.pngTalk 09:39, 3 April 2012 (UTC)

Trivia Earth Bound[edit]

I'm fairly certain some Earth Bound reference is being made. Ness and his three friend's "minds" are sent back in time and they are forced to pilot "robots."--Titania La Fey 06:51, 2 April 2012 (UTC)

Gate Guard Torin[edit]

Gate Guard Torin says many jokes and other things if you talk to him.--Titania La Fey 07:01, 2 April 2012 (UTC)

I just went through and got most of his dialogue:
  • "I know I'm irresistible, but that doesn't mean you can just touch me whenever you want."
  • "Who, me?"
  • "Haven't heard from those Krytans lately."
  • "Pardon me, citizen, but I have important work to do."
  • "Didn't your momma [sic] ever teach you not to talk to strangers?"
  • "A soldier could get a nasty sunburn under this sun."
  • "Seems quiet today."
  • "Duty calls."
  • "If there is a better place in all of Tyria then I've never seen it."
  • "Good day for a nap under a tree."
  • "Don't touch me. I said don't touch me."
  • "I hear Ascalon's Chosen are out fighting another Orrian guild today."
  • "Looks like it's going to rain."
  • "Oh, my aching feet."
  • "Maybe you should lay off the roasted chicken."
  • "Wonder what's going on north of the Wall."
  • "Don't touch me. I'm super important."
  • "Doesn't the Wall look beautiful today?"
  • "It's a beautiful day in Ascalon, eh?"
  • "Don't let my brother catch you looking at me like that."
  • "Read any good books lately?"
  • "Have you heard the joke about the cookie? Aw, it's crummy."
  • "I could sure go for an ale."
  • "Do you think the stories of King Doric are true?"
  • "The butterflies are out today."
  • "Do you think this armor makes me look fat?"
  • "I sure am hungry."
  • "You remind me a little of an alligator."
  • "I'd talk to you, but then I'd have to talk to you."
  • "Wonder what's going on north of the Wall."
  • "I was the only one there, and I didn't see nothin'."
  • "One little mistake! Now I'm stuck on guard duty."
  • "For Ascalon!"
  • "How you doin'?"
  • "Keep it to yourself."
  • "Have you ever considered becoming a nun?"
  • "Not much for a soldier to do now that the Charr have been taken care of."
  • "You know what I could go for right now? A big fat orange."
  • "Do I look like a tour guide?"
  • "Go away before I show you the pointy end of my sword."
Though some of his dialogue seems gender-specific, I did check and verified that each line was used regardless of the player character's gender. Should this be added to Torin's page? ninestories (talk) 05:37, 2 April 2014 (UTC)
It should be documented somewhere, so I've added it to Gate Guard Torin. --Silver Edge 08:26, 2 April 2014 (UTC)
Thank you, Silver Edge! ninestories (talk) 18:19, 2 April 2014 (UTC)
Turns out that this is actually normal dialogue for Ascalon Guards and isn't necessarily related to the April Fool's event. :( ninestories (talk) 03:40, 13 April 2014 (UTC)

Fun Random Comments[edit]

I haven't bothered to hang out and read every little bit (had very little time this weekend), but one thing I noticed that was not on this page was that the familiar-looking hero, at one point, said something like "you'll see, some day I'm going to do something really important." This, alone, is just another "gee, duh" kind of reference. But what made me LOVE it was that my "hero" said it immediately after I was forced to run back along the road from ashford toward ascalon to get him unstuck from some npcs. Important, indeed...173.161.168.49 10:21, 2 April 2012 (UTC)

My familiar-looking hero also got stuck on the way to ashford abbey, get stuck on the npc stood near a tree about half way, cant remember the name.Spark-TBa 16:08, 2 April 2012 (UTC)

Bunnies and Eggs[edit]

I've started to get Golden Eggs and Chocolate Bunny drops from random foes, not see this documented. Aro User Aro Signature Logo.gif 01:48, 3 April 2012 (UTC)

That's because the Sweet Treat Weekend event has just started. Convenient overlap. Kruhljak (talk) 06:43, 3 April 2012 (UTC)

Spirit next to Dwayna's Statue[edit]

Why is this spirit here? http://imageshack.us/f/708/gw013t.jpg/

Not sure, but it's been noted on the Ashford Abbey page. I find it to be a rather cool Easter egg (no pun intended) since you can only see it under certain unusual circumstances. Kruhljak (talk) 06:45, 3 April 2012 (UTC)

Death by Poison[edit]

I just noticed that your alter-ego apparently can't die due to poison. It may also apply to Rurik, not sure. My retro-self was dropped to an empty bar for at least 10-15 seconds while still poisoned but just kept standing there yakking rather than dying. Kruhljak (talk) 07:04, 3 April 2012 (UTC)

You probably just got a lag hit, and the poison disappeared and they were regenerating in the server, or just resurrected, while you didn't see that. GW is asynchronous in that the server won't wait for all the clients before doing things, so what you see isn't always what is happening in the server. By the way, I got them several times killed by the G-1000 Viper's Defense and Wurm's Death Nova's poison. MithUser MithranArkanere Star.pngTalk 08:44, 3 April 2012 (UTC)
Perhaps, but if it were lag I would expect he should have come up dead as soon as the server:me synced up, or his bar should have shot up to wherever it was on the server side (and, of course, if he'd rezzed in lag-space, he'd have full health instantly). Instead, his bar just sat there empty, while me and Rurik were degenning normally, then we all started regenning normally--alter-me taking a fair bit longer than Rurik to max out--when the green halos disappeared. *shrug* Weird. Kruhljak (talk) 09:36, 3 April 2012 (UTC)
I could be wrong, but perhaps you had that damage absorbing skill up? (and accidentally used it in range of your alter ago?) I'm pretty sure I didn't die due to conditions a few times when I should have.. although perhaps I had I'll be back up instead.. File:User Chieftain Alex Chieftain Signature.jpg Chieftain Alex 15:23, 3 April 2012 (UTC)
The phase shield does not affect degeneration. The only instances of '0 HP' life I've ever seen were during some minion panel glitches I saw, and when there's lag. They auto-resurrect when there's no enemies arround, and the client decreases the bar on its own and stop when it receives new info about degen, instead checking continuously. The client probably get's a packet that says "Now I'm degenerating, and I'm alive" and so you see them degenerating and and alive. And it will be like that until it gets the packet that contains the "Now I'm dead", but if it gets a "Now I'm alive" instead because you had a lag hit that made the "Now I'm dead" expire for being too late, you'll skip the death animation altogether and just see them alive when the client re-syncs. If you ever see your character or heroes getting DP out of nowhere without seeing their death first, that's most probably this happening to you again. It happened to me a few times. Zone Exits?[edit]

Are there invisible walls on all the zone exits from Lakeside County? (except the one to Ashford Abbey)

Yes. All exits except the Ashford one that leads to the catacombs are blocked. ninestories (talk) 05:39, 2 April 2014 (UTC)

Entering the lava too early[edit]

I dunno about last year, but this is impossible this year because until the dialogue has advanced enough, the edge is treated as a wall or cliff you can't pass. I tried multiple times. 67.246.60.56 08:11, 2 April 2014 (UTC)
