Page name[edit]

This should definitely be lower case, and possible singular. This is not a list of elite skills but a page describing what an elite skill is. LordBiro 16:23, 8 February 2007 (PST)

Is there a style guide I should be following? --The preceding unsigned comment was added by Vladtheemailer (talk • contribs) at 01:28, 9 February 2007 (UTC).

Do you mean for the content? Or when naming articles? I'm not sure if style guides exist for either of these! But it's good practice to use lower case unless title case is used in the game. So Elite skill and Word of Healing. It's also a good idea to use singular and then make a redirect from the plural article to the singular article. LordBiro 03:27, 9 February 2007 (PST)
I meant for both. I haven't really done much with Wikis before so I'm just trying to be as 'correct' as possible but I wasn't sure whether there were fixed styles to adhere to, or whether we were to use the GuildWiki format or just play it by ear. --Vladtheemailer 06:29, 9 February 2007 (PST)

A player may capture up to 5 elites in their skillbar in certain explorable areas in Prophecies, making it possible to have 6 elite skills at once. - I dont think a lot of thought has gone into this line, surely they cant mean areas with 5 bosses of only 2 different proffessions (e.g. 2 warrior elite skills and 3 monk elite skills). and if he means 5 different proffessions elites then you cannot change profession without entering an outpost and losing your elite skill multiples --The preceding unsigned comment was added by 80.42.87.152 (talk • contribs) at 12:28, 14 July 2007 (UTC).

Actually I think there is one or two of those areas where you can find 5 bosses of just two professions. Snake Dance and Spearhead Peak comes to mind, thought I haven't done a complete check. - anja talk 12:40, 14 July 2007 (UTC)
If you complete the quests for Ursan Blessing, Raven Blessing and Volfen Blessing and claim the rewards at the same time, you can get another 3 Elite Skills on your skill bar. With the correct profession (W/Me), having certain quests active in Drakkar Lake, and a little bit of luck with spawns you could theorectically have 8 elite skills on the skill bar.... Magua 18:18, 4 September 2009 (UTC)
Tried it out. The only slot on you bar where you can place the blessings is in the existing elite slot, so my original thoughts on this were incorrect Magua 08:59, 14 September 2009 (UTC)

EotN[edit]

If I don't own nightfall can I cap Searing Flames in EotN?58.110.139.72 07:44, 25 September 2007 (UTC)

No. It might be possible to cap it, technically, but you still cannot use the skill until you have a Nightfall key on your account. - anja talk 10:29, 25 September 2007 (UTC)
You can kill the boss, but the skill will be locked in the capture box ╙─User Dogzrdogz Sig.jpgDogzrdogztalk

Accessibility[edit]

I think there should be a more accessable link to the list of elite skills (by campaign). This is very useful to skill hunters and people that want to capture elite skills in general. In guilwiki.org I need only a single click to enter that list when I load the site. Here I have to do it in 3 or more clicks. The information in this section is not all that useful to players who are already comeing to the wiki for information (aperantly they know something about the game in general). Basic explanations should be in a beginer's guide not in a page for every-day use. the same is true to some extent for the skill article and the skill list. I think that players in general need faster access to skill lists and skill descriptions rather than basic information. --The preceding unsigned comment was added by 85.130.24.181 (talk • contribs) at 18:14, 8 December 2007 (UTC).

Personally, I think as an experienced user you will know the names of the article you want to reach by now and can just aswell type out the name in the search field, instead of clicking your way through. We have a quick access links page though, do you think it would help to place a link to that in a prominent place? - anja talk 18:26, 8 December 2007 (UTC)
Since you mention the skill article, there is a prominent and convenient sidebox with links to all the skill and elite skill lists. This makes them accessable with 2 clicks from the main page, same as Guildwiki. (Guildwiki is only single click if you bookmark quicklinks instead of the main page.) Perhaps an elite skill only version of that box could be put here. --Valshia 19:03, 8 December 2007 (UTC)
I added a box similar to the one found in the skills page. I wasn't sure how to handle the bottom two links. It seems like we don't have separate campaign lists, just one list sorted by campaign. Tedium 00:40, 18 March 2008 (UTC)

QUESTION ABOUT SIGNET OF CAPTURE[edit]

hey i was wondering can u equip signet of capture on to a hero's skill bar, and if u can, can the hero (or me) use it on a dead boss and learn a elite skill, without loseing the signet of capture in my skill bar so u dont have to buy it again? --The preceding unsigned comment was added by 24.83.221.205 (talk • contribs) at 04:24, 9 April 2008 (UTC).

No, unfortunately heroes cannot equip PvE-only skills, which includes Signet of Capture. - anja talk 09:32, 9 April 2008 (UTC)
So, with this being said...here is my noobish question...How do you get your Hero to equipt elite skills? --The preceding unsigned comment was added by Cdaphneb (talk • contribs) at 05:35, 26 January 2009 (UTC).
You capture an elite skill you wish to be used by a hero with any of your characters (or redeem some balthazar faction to unlock said skill) by using the Signet of Capture. From then on, open the skill and attribute panel in any outpost toggle to your hero by clicking on the corresponding icon in this panel and simply drag the elite skill onto your hero's skill bar. Nightfall Common Elite[edit]

Which is it? Is it the Junundu elite? or has Lightbringer Signet not been properly removed? Lt Death 01:22, 24 August 2008 (UTC)

It is the Junundu one, there used to be 2 common NF elites122.148.176.41 05:28, 24 August 2008 (UTC)

Skills that interact with elite skills[edit]

Should we add Arcane Echo and Echo here? They don't interact specifically with elite skills, but they allow you to temporarily copy them, as any other skill. Biscuits User Biscuits sig.png 20:34, 27 September 2008 (UTC)

I disagree with Echo, simply because it is the elite on your bar. I agree with Arcane Echo. I suggest adding Power Block because it can disable an elite directly or indirectly. 64.32.249.154 22:49, 22 October 2008 (UTC)

opening paragraph[edit]

I think the note about Crippling Shot, and the fact that the elite often determines the build name would be better suited in a Note rather than in the opening paragraph. I don't have time to play around with it further right now though. Biscuits User Biscuits sig.png 12:01, 29 September 2008 (UTC)

Elite Skill + Builds[edit]

Since every build evolves around certain elite skill (like B/P around Barrage) does anyone think its a good idea to add, on the elite skill page, either direct links to the builds from www.PvXwiki.com, or simply a short explanation + used skills. I personly am the kind of person who looks all around on the internet, and simply can find good, or easy accesed information about builds. Niccy 08:27, 11 January 2009 (UTC)

BTW i'm not sure wheter or not you can add direct links to OTHER wiki's, or simply practicly copy their text, or somethiong like that... --The preceding unsigned comment was added by Niccy (talk • contribs) at 08:27, 11 January 2009 (UTC).

I dont really see anyone answering, so ill see this weekend when i got some time off if i can make something... Niccy 12:10, 16 January 2009 (UTC)
The thing is, while an elite skill usually defines the build name, it doesn't necessarily define the build. Take a ranger: apply poison, troll ungent, savage, dshot, nat stride, mend touch, rez. Those are the non-elite skills on many bars, and you just plug in whatever elite you want. --JonTheMon 13:44, 16 January 2009 (UTC)

Lists of skills[edit]

Is there a list of elite skills that can only be captured in missions (as opposed to being available only in explorable areas or both)? If not, is there any interest in having a category/list for them (besides me)? --Freedom Bound 14:27, 15 July 2009 (UTC)

The Elite skill being removed[edit]

If the person was at 140/141 befroe the update without a different elite skill. Then The elite SS skill was removed. Would the person of gained Elonain skill hunter? --Nataliexxx 15:55, 17 November 2009 (UTC)

I'm not sure, but i dont see why not Niccy 09:20, 24 December 2009 (UTC)

Only Five?[edit]

Can't you use Arcane Echo with Arcane Mimicry to have a max of six elites? --The preceding unsigned comment was added by 99.189.121.185 (talk • contribs) at 02:02, 27 March 2010 (UTC).

Another thought: Wouldn't it be, while in no way useful, possible to have up to 8 Elite skills at once for a W/Me or Me/W, who enters Drakkar Lake with 3 empty skill slots, 3 Signets of Capture, 1 elite skill, Arcane Mimicry and the three Blessing quests completed but not having accepted the reward, by accepting the quest rewards, capturing three elite skills and then using Arcane Mimicry on another party member? Bernado 20:23, 4 June 2010 (UTC)
My math may not be right, but Echo is an elite skill, so it would count as one of the elites (obviously the one you equip unless you are headed to capture it). It is possible for an Elementalist/Monk/Mesmer to capture six skills in Perdition Rock (where Echo is capturable) so seven is definitely possible (eight if arcane mimicry is equipped), and I have actually done this on a double XP weekend equipping only Searing Flames and Resurrect. In hindsight, I could have gotten away without Ressurect...Meteor Shower would have been a better option for me. I would recommend using a well controlled group of heroes with multiple interrupts, and henchies with interrupts (Dunham for certain) if you are not travelling with a group of players. In any respect, it's kind of useless and definitely borderline insane to bring more than a couple of Signet of Capture for any run that isn't a sngle zone (like Perdition Rock) because your next zone leaves you some empty skill slots. Gwynna Vive 22:11, 25 June 2010 (UTC)
I must add that this was prior to the August 23, 2007 update... with a 3 skill limit (Signet of Capture is PvE only, hence you can equip only three at once) Arcane Mimicry and your chosen elite skill (even if it is Echo) you would have a maximum of five elites. Amazing how mathematics and coffee are directly proportional to each other! Gwynna Vive 22:23, 25 June 2010 (UTC)
The OP said Arcane Echo, not Echo. He/she is correct. -~=Ϛρѧякγ User Sparky, the Tainted guided sig.png (τѧιк) 23:00, 25 June 2010 (UTC)
Missed that. My bad. Arcane Echo will allow one extra (provided it is a spell and not an attack) Gwynna Vive 00:34, 26 June 2010 (UTC)

Couldn't you get even more using Arcane Thievery/Larceny and Inspired Enchantment? – NuclearDuckie 14:01, 5 October 2010 (UTC)

And even Smooth Criminal, yes, it is possible to get 8 elites on a player-bar.Master Bei Shun 21:13, 1 November 2011 (UTC)

I don't understand how it's done, but the page seems vandalized, with the comments about free information on the internet. The source code doesn't seem to contain any such text. Zohane Trueaim 22:29, 24 July 2011 (UTC)

141/140[edit]

I reverted a change that said that there was a release that changed those who reached 141/140 on the Elonian title track to 140 because I cannot find this fix listed on any of the recent updates. Since I don't have any characters that learned LB Signet prior to August 2008, I cannot test the proposition myself. If it has been fixed then, we should:

  1. Document this on the LB Signet talk page.
  2. Update all the articles that refer to the 141/140 situation (Lightbringer Signet, Skill Hunter, and Elite skill, to name the most likely).
  3. Ideally, reference the game update that changed this.
  4. Also verify that this holds true for those who haven't maxed the title yet (although I imagine that is more difficult to test).

I do remember that there was an update that caused a problem with some people's title tracks...and a subsequent update that fixed that issue. But I didn't see any mention that this update had any impact on the 141/140 anomaly. – Tennessee Ernie Ford (TEF) 21:45, 23 February 2012 (UTC)

I have a character who learned LB Signet before August 2008, and I can confirm that my skill hunter title track now says 140/140. -- bcstingg (talkcontribs) 21:50, 23 February 2012 (UTC)
Very good. I'll restore the previous change and update the other articles. (Do you remember when it changed?) – Tennessee Ernie Ford (TEF) 22:02, 23 February 2012 (UTC)
No clue. I just checked after reading the first comment, and it was 140/140, whereas I know it was once 141/140. It could have been years for all I know. -- bcstingg (talkcontribs) 14:03, 24 February 2012 (UTC)
Thanks for double checking. I'm 99% certain there are ppls that reported 141/140 during 2011, so I think the most likely explanation is that this was an undocumented adjustment during the bug fix linked above (it's also possible that ANet wasn't aware that this was fixed then). – Tennessee Ernie Ford (TEF) 16:48, 24 February 2012 (UTC)
Sorry if I didn't provide any proof before editing, I just realized it when I read the article that my track no longer shows 141/140 so I just thought I'd edit it. Anywho, great that it worked out! Click Here Teo 15:06, 27 February 2012 (UTC)

8 elites in build?[edit]

is that possible trough mesm echo arcane echo arcane minicry and inspired hex?

Of course it is, not only through these skills. For example your team suffers from panic, with the inspiration skills you get 2 times panic from two allies, with arcane mimicry and arcane echo and your own elite you have 5 elites, through the two inspired enchantment skills and the two domination steal skills, the signets of capturing (up to 3) and the asura steal you have even enough skills to create a build with theoretical 12 elites ;) --Naruuu 20:22, 2 July 2012 (UTC)
