A menagerie of miniatures

Miniatures are small replicas of different creatures and other NPCS found in Guild Wars. They are often referred to as miniature pets, mini-pets, or minis for short. They are not capable of attacking or interacting with other game elements in any way. They are mainly for show and are mostly used by ArenaNet as a means of rewarding a player's achievements or dedication to the game.

[edit] Usage

Miniatures are "called out" or summoned by double-clicking the miniature icon in your character's inventory. The miniature will appear and start to move around your character, running towards your character if he or she moves too far away. To unsummon it, double-click the miniature icon again. If you summon another miniature or move to another location, the previously summoned miniature is automatically unsummoned.

In every location, there is a maximum summon limit of 20 miniatures per district. Miniatures are silent in outposts and towns, but may make sound effects similar to the actual NPCs that they represent while in explorable areas.

[edit] Trading and dedicating

Miniatures cannot be sold to merchants but they can be freely traded amongst players.

Miniatures can be dedicated to a particular character by adding it to the "Devotion" monument of the Hall of Monuments. Once dedicated, similar to customizing a weapon, it cannot be "un-dedicated". Dedicating a miniature into the monument does not remove it from your character's inventory. The miniature can still be used as normal, including trading it away to other players who would still be able to summon it. The only difference is that it cannot be placed on any other monument, i.e. a miniature can only be dedicated once. Dedicated miniatures are usually worth less than half of their undedicated counterparts.

[edit] Notes

Bug Bug.
Sometimes a glitch may occur where you are able to see your miniature's name and also its level or party size. It is currently unknown why this happens. The mini may also be selectable, like a player. The name of the Mini will be "Collectors [sic] Edition <Miniature name> Doll", "Birthday <Miniature name> Doll", and "Miniature <Miniature name>" for newer pets.

Glitch with a Collector's Edition miniature
  • The game treats Miniature Pets as allies: they are affected by skill effects (e.g. Earthquake or "You're All Alone!"), they boost skills that increase in power through the number of allies within range (e.g. Leader's Comfort), and they contribute to energy gain due to Leadership. Like many allies, minipets cannot draw aggro.
  • Minis have been observed having drops assigned to them. The owner of the mini is able to pick up the drop.
  • There are currently 87 different miniatures available in total.
  • The images of all miniature pets can be found in this miniature gallery.

[edit] Trivia

Example of a dead miniature
  • Before the October 12th 2007 update, Miniatures used to die when hit by a snow ball or boulder in Eye of the North.
  • Through the exploitation of duping, there were countless high-end miniature pets that were lost due to accounts being permanently banned.
