Final Balance Update and Tuning for the Assassin in PvE[edit]

The Assassin in PvE still needs some fine tuning. There are still some unsolved issues that really need an solution. Unfortunately, a lot of attack skill have a recharge time, that is simply to high for PvE. Most of his Elite Skills are unrational or useless and not worth even being called elite so that most of players have no other possibility than using the same build or the same 2 or 3 Elite Skills over and over and over again in order to be efficient in combat. But let's get started with my personal skill/balance suggestions for a possible final balance update, to give the Assassin some colour and variety in his world.


Primary attribute[edit]

First of all, I think that like Mesmer and Dervish, who benefit from two effects of their primary attribute (only in PvE)since their last update, all professions should get an additional effect to their primary attribute.


NEW Critical Strikes : For each rank of Critical Strikes you have, you gain an additional 1% chance to critical hit. Whenever you critical hit, you gain 1 energy at ranks 3 and above, 2 energy at ranks 8 and above, and 3 energy at 13 ranks above. In PvE, each rank of Critical Strikes decreases the recharge time for your Assassin attack skills by 2%.


The new added effect gives the Assassin more flexibility, in build constellation and combat. If anyone has a better idea for a secondary effect, please let us know.


Dagger Mastery[edit]

Desperate Strike Desperate Strike 5 Energy0 Activation time6 Recharge time Lead Attack. Changed functionality to : If it hits, you strike for +5...17...20 damage. If you have less than 50...82...90% Health, you deal +10...34...40 more damage.


Fox's Promise Fox's Promise 5 Energy¼ Activation time10 Recharge time Elite Hex Spell. Decreased energy cost to 5, activation time to 1/2 seconds and recharge time to 10 seconds, changed property to Elite Hex Spell and changed functionality to : For 1...8...10 seconds your attacks cannot miss target foe. Your attacks against this foe deal an additional +1...7...8 damage for each attack skill you have equipped (maximum +30 damage).

Golden Skull Strike Golden Skull Strike 10 Energy10 Recharge time Elite Off-Hand Attack. Decreased recharge time to 10 seconds, changed functionality to: If it hits, you strike for +5...17...20 damage. If you are under the effects of an enchantment, target foe is Dazed 1...4...5 seconds.


Horns of the Ox Horns of the Ox 5 Energy0 Activation time8 Recharge time Dual Attack. Decreased recharge time to 8 seconds, changed functionality to : If it hits, Horns of the Ox strikes for +5...17...20 damage. If struck foe is not adjacent to any allies, that foe is knocked down.


Jagged Strike Jagged Strike 5 Energy½ Activation time3 Recharge time Lead Attack. Increased recharge time to 3 seconds, changed functionality to : If Jagged Strike hits, target foe takes +5...17...20 damage. If this attack strikes a moving foe, that foe is Bleeding for 3...13...15 seconds.


Moebius Strike Moebius Strike 5 Energy½ Activation time2 Recharge time Elite Off-Hand Attack. Changed activation time to 1/2.


Temple Strike Temple Strike 10 Energy0 Activation time8 Recharge time Elite Lead Attack. Decreased energy cost to 10 and recharge time to 8 seconds, changed property to Elite Lead Attack, changed functionality to : If this attack hits,you deal +10...26...30 and interrupt a spell. You inflict Dazed and Blind for 1...7...8 seconds, if you strike a hexed target.


Critical Strikes[edit]

Way of the Assassin Way of the Assassin 5 Energy0 Activation time12 Recharge time Elite Stance. Changed functionality to: (20 seconds). While wielding daggers, you attack +5...27...33% faster and have a +5...37...45% chance to land a critical hit.

Deadly Arts[edit]

Crippling Dagger Crippling Dagger 5 Energy1 Activation time5 Recharge time Spell. Changed functionality to : Send out a Crippling Dagger at target foe. Crippling Dagger strikes for 15...51...60 damage if it hits, and Cripples moving foes for 3...13...15 seconds. This spell has half the normal range.


Dancing Daggers Dancing Daggers 5 Energy1 Activation time5 Recharge time Spell. Changed functionality to : Send out three Dancing Daggers at target foe, each striking for 5...29...35 damage if they hit. Dancing Daggers has half the normal range. This skill counts as a lead attack.


Disrupting Dagger Disrupting Dagger 5 Energy¼ Activation time10 Recharge time Spell. Changed functionality to : Send out a Disrupting Dagger at target foe that strikes for 10...30...35 damage. If that foe was activating a skill, that skill is interrupted. This spell has half the normal range.


Entangling Asp Entangling Asp 10 Energy¾ Activation time12 Recharge time Spell. Decreased activation time to 3/4 seconds and recharge time to 12 seconds.


Impale Impale 5 Energy¾ Activation time15 Recharge time Skill. Decreased activation time to 3/4 seconds, changed functionality to : Must follow a dual attack. Target foe is struck for 25...85...100 damage and suffers from a Deep Wound for 5...17...20 seconds.


Iron Palm Iron Palm 5 Energy¾ Activation time10 Recharge time Skill. Decreased recharge time to 10 seconds.


Mark of Death Mark of Death 10 Energy¼ Activation time15 Recharge time Hex Spell. Decreased recharge time to 15 seconds, changed funtionality to : For 4...9...10 seconds, target foe gains 33% less benefit from healing and is knocked down everytime you land critical hits.


Shroud of Silence Shroud of Silence 10 Energy¾ Activation time20 Recharge time Elite Hex Spell. Decreased recharge time to 20 seconds, changed functionality to : All of your spells are disabled for 10 seconds. For 1...7...8 second[s], target touched foe cannot cast spells.


Signet of Shadows Signet of Shadows 0 Energy1 Activation time15 Recharge time Signet. Decreased recharge time to 15 seconds, changed functionality to : Target foe takes 10...34...40 damage. If your target was Blinded, that foe suffers an additional 15...51...60 damage.


Vampiric Assault Vampiric Assault 5 Energy0 Activation time6 Recharge time Dual Attack. Decreased recharge time to 6 seconds, moved to attribute ! Critical Strikes !.


Shadow Arts[edit]

Beguiling Haze Beguiling Haze 15 Energy¼ Activation time15 Recharge time Elite Spell. Decreased recharge time to 15 seconds, changed functionality to : Shadow Step to target foe. Interrupts target foe and all and adjacent foes. That foe and all adjacent foes become Dazed for 3...8...9 seconds.


Shadow Form Shadow Form 10 Energy2 Activation time45 Recharge time Elite Form. Increased energy cost to 10, activation time to 2 seconds and recharge time to 45 seconds, changed property to Elite Form and functionality to : For 5...25...30 seconds while wielding daggers, you attack 33% faster and move 50% faster and gain +0...2...2 on your Dagger Mastery and Critical Strikes attributes. 50% miss chance unless Shadow Arts 12 or higher.

Shadow Form Shadow Form 10 Energy1 Activation time45 Recharge time Elite Enchantment Spell. Increased energy cost to 10 and recharge time to 45 seconds, changed functionality to : For 5...21...25 seconds, while wielding daggers all hostile spells targeting you fail and all attacks against you miss. When Shadow Form ends, you lose all but 5...41...50 health. All your non-attack skills are disabled for 10 seconds.


Conclusion[edit]

I think the changes really don't need any explanation since the ideas and intentions behind them are pretty much obvious and simple. If you are an experienced Assassin and Guild Wars player you will (hopefully) understand not only the changes but even more importantly, the necessity of havening balance changes for this profession. Nowdays most of the active Guild Wars players have fully equipped heroes / mercenaries with powerful and effecient builds which simply means, most of the battles in PvE don't last long. That's why Assassins need their attack skills recharged quickly. At the same time this lovely profession needs heavily some variety in possible builds. I can't imagine how boring it is for players only to play 90% of the time with the same stupid build ( Jagged Strike Jagged Strike, Fox Fangs Fox Fangs, Death Blossom Death Blossom and Moebius Strike Moebius Strike ).

Well my fellow guild wars players, I strongly hope, that those responsible and still in charge for Guild Wars 1 will have a look at this and maybe use it as a beautiful present for the players when Guild Wars 1 will celebrate it's 10th anniversary this year.
