Featured pages

The goal of this project is to nominate pages to be featured on the Main Page, to process these nominations and to keep track of previously featured articles.

The aspects

The Featured pages project has been divided into four pieces.

  1. Nominating new articles to be featured on the Main Page.
  2. Maintaining the text of the article preview for the Main Page.
  3. Maintaining the quality of the featured article line-up and removing those which fall out of quality.
  4. Determining the line up of articles whenever a new article is accepted.

The procedure

Nominating articles

To nominate a page to be featured on the Main Page, add it to the nominated pages section on this page. When nominating pages, please consider if the page you are nominating is good enough to be featured on the Main Page. When nominating a page please put this: {{feature}} tag at the top of the page so people visiting the page know. If you do not believe the article is good enough, please refrain from nominating it and work on improving it instead. Nominated articles should be discussed on this page. When consensus has been reached in favor of the article, the section with the discussion about that article should be moved to the accepted pages section, and a time stamp displaying when the article has been accepted should be added. If an article has been rejected by the community, it should be placed into Rejected pages. Articles should be moved into their respective sections (accepted/rejected) when there has not been comments about it for a month or longer.

Discussions of articles rejected should be moved to the latest or a new rejected pages archive (listed at the top of the Rejected pages section) after one week from being rejected. When articles are featured, the discussion of the article should be stamped with a new time stamp and moved to the latest or a new featured article archive (listed at the top of the Accepted articles section).

Accepted articles will be featured (in order of earliest acceptances) when the current article's feature time has run out, unless otherwise noted. Featured articles will remain on the main page for two weeks and are to be changed out on Mondays. When articles are featured for the first time, they are to be tagged with {{Featured article}}.

There is only one requirement for featured pages, and that is no maintenance tags (that includes and is not limited to: dispute, merge, move, stubs, cleanup, rewrite, deletion, or any other tag that requires work on the article). Once all maintenance tags are dealt with and removed, the article can be considered for being featured. Whether an article will be featured or not, is based solely on consensus in the discussion on this page.

Note: Pages nominated prior to April 29, 2009, have been moved to this archive. If you wish to nominate one of these pages, please move them out of the archive back to this page.

Choosing the order

The order of the featured articles are important as placing too many like-minded articles together can become boring for readers. As such, deciding the order of articles is necessary, even if a small task. When an article is accepted, its placement must be decided. There's no need for a discussion on this, as long as the placement isn't near too many like-minded articles it'll be fine.

Festival themed articles are to be kept out of the normal ordering and replace whatever article is being featured when the main page becomes decorated with the festival theme. When the decorations are removed, the order shall resume.

Proposing text and Removing articles

When an article is to be featured for the first time, the preview text must be created. This will happen at Main Page/featured article/next, not here. Preview text is usually the first two non-quotation paragraphs of an article, but this is not always the case.

If an article which has been featured has been rewritten or typos/incorrect information in the old preview text has occurred, new text can be proposed in the preview text section. If old preview text is disliked, new preview text can be proposed here for the article's next featuring. Preview text is to be written outside of one's comment and can be edited by anyone. If a preview text suggestion is accepted, it will replace the text found here and the discussion archived; if a preview text suggestion is rejected, the text is removed and the discussion is archived.

If anyone feels that an article that has been featured does not have feature quality, a new discussion should be created in the Removal section. An article does not have to have been rewritten since its last feature to warrant having its removal discussed. If the proposal for removing is accepted, the article will be removed from the line-up and the discussion archived with a time stamp; if the proposal for removing is rejected, the discussion is to be archived without a time stamp.

Hero behaviour

I think this should clearly be nominated since it contains tons of useful info which isn't at all obvious to all players. E.g: Heroes are really bad at using certain skills, but better than most players at using certain other skills (e.g BiP, Death Nova, etc).

Long overdue --Falconeye (talk) 20:11, 26 July 2015 (UTC)

Prince Rurik

because i love him and am a huge fan boy...-User Zesbeer sig.png Zesbeer 10:13, 28 May 2011 (UTC)
Awe, Well... I think it's a decent page worth showing. Has some good information to it. I'm for this one. Kaisha User Kaisha Sig.png 19:11, 30 May 2011 (UTC)
It is definitely one of the better looking NPC pages, and being such an important character, there's quite a bit of information, which is good. The one thing that might make some people reject this is that more than half of his "bio" is under the spoiler tag, although, honestly, who that cares enough hasn't already beaten all four or had it ruined in-game already? I support this one. ~Farlo Talk 19:55, 30 May 2011 (UTC)
Not a lot of original text without spoilers and we've had multiple complaints about spoilers on the front page. I'm prone to say no on this one. It's one of the better NPC pages, but 1)I think we have enough NPC pages, 2) I think this can be improved more, and 3) I'd like to see NPC pages on par to Shiro Tagachi, Abaddon, and Gwen, rather than Keiran Thackeray and Dhuum (Shiro has the quotation and still manages 4 paragraphs and has concept art which is always a + to the interesting for folks I've noticed; Abaddon has less text but has the inscription and more images - both concept art and not; Gwen has a quotation, 4 paragraphs, and a nice sized gallery, and even documents community information in the notes). I think we've gotten into "if it has paragraphs, it's nice" for NPC and region articles, which isn't necessarily true. This article just doesn't stick out to me as "special" or interesting compared to all the others that have some work put to them (Devona, Eve, Cynn, Mhenlo, Salma, King Jalis Ironhammer, Evennia, Captain Langmar, Saul D'Alessio, Mad King Thorn (imo best of the list), etc.) and looks like it could be expanded. There's nothing about him about what he does outside of the primary missions in post-Searing except that he and Althea were dating and he has Sohothin. -- Konig/talk 00:48, 31 May 2011 (UTC)
its funny konig you always say it could be expanded and then you dont care to expand it. i also dont know when the no quotation text in the preview came into practus but i think we could use that for it.-User Zesbeer sig.png Zesbeer 03:07, 31 May 2011 (UTC)
I don't expand things because it's not in my interest and I do have things to do. Also, I'm probably the reason you nominated this. In the case of this article, I did expand (and rewrote). Regarding the no-quotation text in the preview, it was done because it's not wiki-original writing (same reason for this rejection). There's a reason we're not even nominating things like An Empire Divided (possibly the most informative official document for GW1). -- Konig/talk 04:39, 31 May 2011 (UTC)
i still like this page so if you point me in the direction of the lore that you want to add to it then i ll add it.-User Zesbeer sig.png Zesbeer 20:45, 12 June 2011 (UTC)
I still accept this page. Kaisha User Kaisha Sig.png 04:54, 13 June 2011 (UTC)
I support this article as well. It's good enough, on a similar quality to Gwen or Keiran and better/more informative than some other previously featured pages. EDIT: A problem could be that part of the spoiler text would show on the front page feature summary. razor39999 17:05, 14 June 2011 (UTC)
"There's a reason we're not even nominating things like An Empire Divided" - Konig. *scrolls up* *chuckle*. Anyways, If someone can get a front-page worthy, spoiler-free 2 paragraphs out of this, I'll support it, but if not, then reject. ~FarloUser Farlo Triad.pngTalk 20:07, 14 August 2011 (UTC)
Use the manuscript quote for this one? Kaisha User Kaisha Sig.png 17:17, 16 August 2011 (UTC)
We could or, we could add more content from pre-searing :P either way I added more content for pre-searing but I am not confident that I got everything. Ha ha a year late!A Liability 23:27, 8 June 2012 (UTC)

An Empire Divided

Interesting, well-illustrated and timely (WoC). --Santax (talk · contribs) 03:05, 13 July 2011 (UTC)

Disagree due to some of the images - more in detailed comment on issues was made before seeing this. When said issues are good, then I agree with nomination. Konig/talk 03:10, 13 July 2011 (UTC)
I'd agree if there weren't images missing and had some consistency in style. Also, those red links in the intro are bad. ~FarloUser Farlo Triad.pngTalk 20:07, 14 August 2011 (UTC)
the red links burn my eyes... as that is a requirement (having no red links) ill go with no. also i thought we talked about not using copy pasta stuff ie stuff that was written by anet.(could be very wrong about that.)-User Zesbeer sig.png Zesbeer 22:12, 14 August 2011 (UTC)
We did, and that was more or less the agreement, but I, at least, am willing to make an exception on this one because: 1) It's hardly noticed (having come from the Prima guide and being buried amongst the wiki) and 2) it has a currently unique style. However, if Santax's goal for these kinds of articles take place, the second point is removed and thus I see no need to feature for that one point. Konig/talk 01:39, 15 August 2011 (UTC)
Wow. It felt like an e-book. Any more pages like this? (I was thinking on maybe looking at the manual of Factions and seeing if there's "concept" art images that you can get from that. I know you can download the manual from the official site. Kaisha User Kaisha Sig.png 17:11, 16 August 2011 (UTC)

konig nominated but was to lazy to list them.-User Zesbeer sig.png Zesbeer 00:47, 23 February 2011 (UTC)

I did not and was not - I said if Keiran is accepted, then I would. -- Konig/talk 01:35, 23 February 2011 (UTC)
I think it'd be cool for people to read the backstory for these guys, if the pages are up to par of course. ~Farlo Talk 00:38, 20 April 2011 (UTC)
I'm not sure on this one. I'm in the undecided state of this one. I wonder, Konig, what do you think? Kaisha User Kaisha Sig.png 05:00, 13 June 2011 (UTC)
Borderline. Konig/talk 16:47, 13 June 2011 (UTC)

commonly used. well written article.-User Zesbeer sig.png Zesbeer 01:10, 22 February 2011 (UTC)

Yeah but Kite needs a picture! preferably some warrior being slow witted :p --File:User Chieftain Alex Chieftain Signature.pngChieftain Alex 01:13, 22 February 2011 (UTC)
As Alex said, needs a picture. I propose the gif used on Crippled. -- Konig/talk 01:22, 22 February 2011 (UTC)
that image dosnt really fit when i think of kiting i think of someone running around.-User Zesbeer sig.png Zesbeer 01:49, 22 February 2011 (UTC)
Sorry, mistook kiting with snaring for some reason. Really don't know what image would be best used. -- Konig/talk 05:17, 24 March 2011 (UTC)
There's too little text to feature this imo. -- Konig/talk 22:26, 25 May 2011 (UTC)
The Crystal Desert/Pre-Searing had even less text and more lists. razor39999 09:50, 26 May 2011 (UTC)
That text was all in one place, this doesn't really have a good front-page 2-paragraphs though. (And tbh, those two were barely making it looking back at them). -- Konig/talk 09:51, 26 May 2011 (UTC)
Although we do need more mechanics articles, I vote nay; no good pictures and it looks pretty bland, and like Konig said, no 2 paragraphs. ~FarloUser Farlo Triad.pngTalk 20:07, 14 August 2011 (UTC)
Other than needing a pic, I kind of like articles like this. They are basic concepts that are very helpful and often over looked by new players and actually take skill to master (in pvp scenarios). --Moto Saxon 16:24, 15 August 2011 (UTC)
Now how's that?--Mark, User talk:Markisbeest het Beest 09:12, 22 August 2011 (UTC)
Hows what?-User Zesbeer sig.png Zesbeer 09:19, 22 August 2011 (UTC)
I'm sure someone can get an image of a monk running away from a boss. Ask healbot, she's an expert :) -- 10:33, 22 August 2011 (UTC)
I added a picture, that's the best I can find.--Mark, User talk:Markisbeest het Beest 10:52, 22 August 2011 (UTC)
