How to move a guild cape image? [Solved]

Hi there!

My Guild has changed cape.. I want to update the Guildcape image, that's easy.. but I want to keep the history, and use the old cape like

but I can't move them (like pages)..

My opinion: save the JPG on my computer and upload it, while updating the official image..

I'm right or there is another way to rename the "old" image (first time I need to do it and didn't see any buttons on image's page)?

Corsaire 20:19, 9 April 2008 (UTC)

You are correct, reuploading the only way to do it :) - anja talk 20:25, 9 April 2008 (UTC)

A Change Most Terrible

I'm not sure if it's me, but have the image galleries (like Unused files, and Uncategorized images) have been changed to thumbnail images? This will not do. I sift through the images, and it takes far too long to load 500 at a time. I am simply saying I liked the old format better (the one with text only). Question: How can I change this? I'd like to go back to only text please. --TalkPeople of Antioch 04:29, 10 April 2008 (UTC)

No idea how. A quick search on mediawiki didn't turn up anything related to this. -- ab.er.rant User Ab.er.rant Sig.png 08:07, 10 April 2008 (UTC)
I think DPL might be able to do this somehow, but I'm not sure. - anja talk 08:10, 10 April 2008 (UTC)

User Box

How do you create a page for a userbox? Also how do u make a Userbox Category? An example I am making one for "Users who play Pre-Searing" How do I make a page for that category. As of Also how do u make the short code for the user box also like below?

User Presearing
Resurrection Signet.jpg This user plays Pre Searing Ascalon.

This is what I have so Far. I Just need to make a short link, a category list and it to go on Here

Thanks --Mithos Agar 05:36, 10 April 2008 (UTC)

You'd put the above userbox code on the page Template:User presearing, and then put at the bottom of the page <includeonly></includeonly><noinclude></noinclude> ¬ Wizårdbõÿ777(talk) 08:16, 10 April 2008 (UTC)

Did that Now I only having a problem where it does not have its own Category page and I still dont know what to put in as I was playing around with it. --Mithos Agar 17:41, 10 April 2008 (UTC)

I Made the Users who play Presearing Page and copied and pasted from another userbox that had its own category page but i dont see a list of anyone on it =/ Help....--Mithos Agar 04:28, 11 April 2008 (UTC)
Fixed. Note that you have to write User Presearing and not with a lower case p. poke | talk 11:38, 13 April 2008 (UTC)

.css once more

can i change styles stored in classes, and what would be the keyword for that? as in, for example, if i'd wanna change div class="necro-box" (or whatever it's called) to display warrior color instead of necro color.

i could imagine it to look something like this:

.class::necro-box
{
  background-color:w-color
}

What I do is go to MediaWiki:Common.css, and check the titles exactly from there. If a class isn't working correctly, it's entirely possible it's got a different name. I also use the common.css page as a good example of working codes too. --User Jioruji Derako logo.png Jïörüjï Ðērākō.>.cнаt^ 19:45, 11 April 2008 (UTC)

Ein?...

Any clue why, if i write RFC # as text entry (replacing # with a number) it adds a link to a no-clue-what-about page? (like in RFC 1). And nope, i am not clicking it nor i would advice doing it until i know why :/.--Fighterdoken 06:37, 13 April 2008 (UTC)

Seems safe to click, by the way. It links to a RFC page (don't know what that is)... I followed it back to this. Apparently it's something buried deep in the server? I have no idea what it's for, though. --User Jioruji Derako logo.png Jïörüjï Ðērākō.>.cнаt^ 07:40, 13 April 2008 (UTC)
P.S.: Whatever it is, it's a part of MediaWiki or the server itself; my personal wiki does this link as well, and I know there's nothing that I installed that has to do with this. --User Jioruji Derako logo.png Jïörüjï Ðērākō.>.cнаt^ 07:42, 13 April 2008 (UTC)
An RFC, or Request for comment, is a type of standards document. That site is where they are all published. I guess since MediaWiki (the software the official wiki runs) was originally written for Wikipedia, it made sense to have it provide an easy way to link to standards documents. See W:Request for Comments for more details. :) Biscuits User Biscuits sig.png 10:54, 13 April 2008 (UTC)

About uploading images (resolved)

Hi! I'm trying to get my user page set up proper, and running into a bit of confusion in doing so, even after reading the Help:Editing and GWW:USER pages. Specifically, on the upload page:

  • Source Filename vs. Destination Filename. If I've written the filename locally as "User Duminas blah.jpg" (for example) do I just write the same thing as destination, with extension, or not, or something else entirely?
  • The radio buttons. For something in userspace, I set "Image use" as User space, I imagine. But what about licence settings, if it's a cropped screenshot of my character, just Normal image (not sure since Guild Wars screenshot is present also)?
  • Summary is just the user image template, with a short explanation, right?

Sorry about all the questions on this, just want to make sure I don't mess anything up. Thanks for any help! -- Duminas 09:02, 13 April 2008 (UTC)

1) Yes. 2) Any screenshot taken in Guild Wars (even cropped) is Guild Wars Screenshot. 3) IIRC, selecting "user space" image will fill in the template appropriately. Just add a summary if you wish. Go to Aiiane's Talk page (Aiiane - talk - contribs) 09:04, 13 April 2008 (UTC)
I hope I did this right, then. [1] (Link's internal, just don't know how to link to an image without displaying it). Duminas 09:19, 13 April 2008 (UTC)

Right align ToC?

I'd like to have the ToC on a certain page align to the far right, instead of to the default left. Could someone please tell me how to accomplish that? Thanks! -- Gaile User gaile 2.png 19:58, 13 April 2008 (UTC)

you can either use TOCright to align it right in general, or create a seperate right-aligned div and put __TOC__ in there (which is what the template does). - Y0_ich_halt Have a look at my page 20:01, 13 April 2008 (UTC)

So, another question about ToCs: Do you know how to stack entries? Compare:
  • This is a date: This is a title
    • to
  • This is a date:
  • This is a title
Any ideas? Thanks! -- Gaile User gaile 2.png 20:16, 13 April 2008 (UTC)
I can't imagine what it's supposed to look like right now (might be because we had a party today ^.^), but i'm rather sure it will work if you adjust all headers manually... - Y0_ich_halt Have a look at my page 20:23, 13 April 2008 (UTC)
The only simple way I can think of to do that would be to have separate sub-sections for each title. So you could do:
TOCright
Date 1 (21 July)
Title 1
Title 2
Date 2 (22 July)
Title 3
Check out my Sandbox to see that in action. :) Biscuits User Biscuits sig.png 20:33, 13 April 2008 (UTC)

Discussion pages

How can I respond to a "thread" on a discussion page? Must I edit the page, or use that "+" or do something completely different? --Lady Rhonwyn 12:00, 14 April 2008 (UTC)

Most talk page sections each have an "edit" button tagged on them, you click on that, and edit a reply to it. You know how to sign as I can see, but remember to use ":"s for spacing.- VanguardUser-VanguardAvatar.PNG 12:02, 14 April 2008 (UTC)
So, there is no automatic proces that will add the required amount of tabs, etc. That "+" will create a new heading then, I presume. (And I just pushed the button "Your signature with timestamp" in the button bar) :p. --Lady Rhonwyn 12:08, 14 April 2008 (UTC)
"+" will add a new topic, yes. And no, there is no automatic ::: adder that I know of.- VanguardUser-VanguardAvatar.PNG 12:09, 14 April 2008 (UTC)
(edit conflictx3)Press the [edit] of the section where you want to add a comment and then simply add your comment at the bottom. Indent your comment correctly with colons and remember to sign ;)
Alternatively you can also click the edit of the page and browse through the complete discussion page to the topic you want to edit but the first way is easier and adds a predefined edit summary (and prevents edit conflicts) :) poke | talk 12:10, 14 April 2008 (UTC)

Guild Roster

Hei everyone. I had a question: as I was updating the wiki page of my Guild, I noticed the "Roster" section, where our members can put down their names, is getting quite long. Am I allowed to put our roster in a seperate page, and, if yes, should the name of that page be Guild:(my guild's name)/Roster, should I use my userpage for this Roster, or ...? There should be a link to my guild's page in my userpage, I haven't posted it here since I don't know if it's allowed. Thanks in advance! --I'm a Rebel! Why 15:16, 14 April 2008 (UTC)

I couldnt find anything about this, but shoot me if I missed it. What exactly are "Patrolled Edits"? --User Wandering Traveler Oie User Wandering Traveler Sig2.png Wandering Traveler 17:42, 14 April 2008 (UTC)

Patrolled edits is a sysop function, a sysop viewing a diff can click a link to choose to make that diff patrolled, basically meaning you can flag things "I have checked it and it wasn't vandalism". All sysops can see red exclamation marks in the RC and watchlist for edits that aren't patrolled, and edits by sysops are patrolled by default. If you uploaded it, give it about half an hour or so. The cache sometimes takes time to refresh when a new version of an image has been uploaded. Vertical text?

Is there some way to get true vertical text in wiki? Let's say I have a table that I want to add headers to, but the entries in the table are many and small (a couple of digits) and thus the header doesn't have enough room to fit a longer word horizontally, but there's plenty of room upwards, vertically.

I'm thus wondering if you can actually tilt a cell, or text. I don't want to resort to writing one letter per line and simply work my way down that way, I want a real text, linkable etc. --Kherec 12:27, 22 April 2008 (UTC)

It doesn't appear so. I just re-read the extended help on table creation, and did google searches for various phrases about rotating text in tables, both searching for mediawiki and html. I found a few pages that described how to do it in an IE specific way and many pages that said it was basically impossible to do. Sorry! So.. it is allowed i guess? And yes, talking about [3] and [4] in particular, but kinda curious if it can be extended to talk pages of other articles, or other namespaces.--Fighterdoken 07:39, 24 April 2008 (UTC)
I'm not aware of any archiving rules other than the ones for user talk pages in Guild Wars Wiki:User pages, however I don't see any harm in archiving the material in question. -- Gordon Ecker 07:47, 24 April 2008 (UTC)
Yup, there is no written rule about it, but we kinda still enforce the "don't remove talk page comments" on main articles. That is why i ask if it is allowed to use noarchive on main article pages to avoid archiving topics. By example, in the page i mentioned above, several topics like "Back to the Trojans", "Help", ".dds again" and a couple of others were not archived, but deleted instead.--Fighterdoken 17:52, 24 April 2008 (UTC)

Proposing a change to a policy

I've been following and discussing the debate on images in signatures here, and I was thinking of taking Xeeron's suggestion of actually suggesting a change in policy. However, I have no clues on how to go about that? Anyone with experience care to help out? Thanks! User Scion Of Erixalimar SigIcon.png ~Scion~ (talk | contribs) 02:44, 24 April 2008 (UTC)

Go to Guild Wars Wiki:Sign your comments and bring it up on the talk page. Then add it to the RfC to attract commentary.--Go to Wynthyst's Talk page Wynthyst 02:52, 24 April 2008 (UTC)
If you need to create a full draft (suggesting bigger changes), create it as a subpage with date. Like Guild Wars Wiki:Sign your comments/Draft20080424 - anja talk 04:55, 24 April 2008 (UTC)

More about templates (and categories)

Can I just create a new template? And how do I create a category for my guild userbox? << horsedrowner | talk | guild >> 14:01, 24 April 2008 (UTC)

You can create a template the same way you create any page - just make it at User:Horsedrowner/Templatename. Once it's done, you can transclude it the same way any of the pages in the Template: namespace are. i.e. . There's much more detailed information at the meta help page, here. -- AT(talk | contribs) 14:18, 24 April 2008 (UTC)
I know that (look at my userboxes), but can I create a template in the Template namespace? Or are there any policies for that? << horsedrowner | talk | guild >> 14:22, 24 April 2008 (UTC)
Of course you can create a new template in the template namespace. Just be sure that it could be really useful for others and everything is fine. See also Guild Wars Wiki:Formatting/Templates. poke | talk 14:28, 24 April 2008 (UTC)
