Weird Microsoft-IIS 5 Server
For some reason "/etc <no white space here> /anything" in the edit box cause:
<!DOCTYPE HTML PUBLIC "-//IETF//DTD HTML 2.0//EN"> <html><head> <title>501 Method Not Implemented</title> </head><body> <h1>Method Not Implemented</h1> <p>POST to /index.php not supported.<br /> </p> <hr> <address>Microsoft-IIS 5 Server at wiki.guildwars.com Port 80</address> </body></html>
For obvious reason i cant show the exact string, i think someone should be able to test to confirm this. It is very silly that any path containg "etc" triger a server error. While it not related to the wiki directly, i was wondering if that could be fixed. --Bob 22:55, 25 April 2008 (UTC)

"This article has been viewed X times"
There used to be a line at the bottom of every page saying how many times it had been viewed. Does anybody know why it's gone? I found it quite interesting. :) Biscuits 00:12, 27 April 2008 (UTC)
- On the original wiki it was disabled so that the wiki could use squid or a similiar caching system that allowed the wiki to serve the pages from cache instead of recreating them every time someone visited the page. Basically squid works so that it serves the viewer a cahced version unless the page is changed in some way. With this counter the page changes every time it is visited, so squid would do absolutely nothin, ever. I guess it must be a similiar reason on this wiki. -- (gem / talk) 06:01, 27 April 2008 (UTC)
- Yea, PvX uses squid and our Special:Statistics shows that we have a total of 0 page views ever :P Since squid handles the page views, mediawiki never sees them so the counters would be pointless. ¬ Wizårdbõÿ777(talk) 07:31, 27 April 2008 (UTC)
- Hmm well this has been quite a recent change, so either we have started caching pages, or it was just removed during an upgrade. Biscuits 18:17, 27 April 2008 (UTC)
- This was mentioned on the Community Portal but apparently nobody found out the reason for it before. I don't think it had anything to do with the wiki upgrade since it showed up for a while after the upgrade. --Kakarot 19:46, 27 April 2008 (UTC)

defaultsort:Y0 ich halt
what does it do? - Y0_ich_halt 15:36, 28 April 2008 (UTC)
- It's the sort key used when categorising, but means you don't have to put
|Y0 ich halt
after each category name. Useful for putting a page into multiple categories. -- Brains12 \ Talk 15:40, 28 April 2008 (UTC)- why the |Y0 anyway? once i'm in the cat, i am. - Y0_ich_halt 15:42, 28 April 2008 (UTC)

faulty Nightfall quest list
Hi, The quest 'Honing Your Skills' is not clickable in the list of Istan Quests (Nightfall), and the quest 'Hole of Istan' is not in that list altogether. Could someone please see to that?--Skabuoy 18:32, 1 May 2008 (UTC)
- I've fixed the Honing your Skills quest but am not sure why Hole of Istan doesn't show up although it looks like all three quests to get to Eye of the North don't show up in their respective campaign list. --Kakarot 18:36, 1 May 2008 (UTC)
- Im pretty sure they arent in the lists because they are not primary quests. If you go HERE You will find them. Drogo Boffin 18:40, 1 May 2008 (UTC)
- The list is made up of ALL quests (including festival quests and stuff), so the reason it's not listed because it's not a primary quest can be dismissed, I would say. ;-)
- And thanks for fixing the 'Honing'-quest.--Skabuoy 19:36, 1 May 2008 (UTC)

- Im pretty sure they arent in the lists because they are not primary quests. If you go HERE You will find them. Drogo Boffin 18:40, 1 May 2008 (UTC)
(Reset indent) The reason it doesn't appear on the Nightfall quests is because it is actually an Eye of the North Quest. If you don't have Eye of the North, it is not available to you.-- Wynthyst 20:14, 1 May 2008 (UTC)
- That reason is not viable either, because the quests Terror in Tyria and Plague in Cantha are also only available if you have Prophecies and Factions, and they are listed. That makes 2 out of 3 'passage' quests that are listed.--Skabuoy 21:22, 1 May 2008 (UTC)
- Actually, it is viable, because what Wynthyst is referring to is the actual classification of the quest based on its wiki page. If you go to the wiki page for Terror in Tyria, you'll notice that the infobox on the right-hand side lists it as a Nightfall quest. If, on the other hand, you look at Hole in Istan's quest page, it's listed as an Eye of the North quest. Hence, Hole in Istan gets put into the Eye of the North quests list, while Terror in Tyria gets put into the Nightfall quests list, because the DPL generation script only knows what the pages list, it's just a computer.
- So what it comes down to is a consistency issue - should transition quests to other campaigns be designated as being of the campaign they transition from, or the campaign they transition to? Right now, we have some that are the former (Terror in Tyria, Plague in Cantha, etc) and some that are the latter (Hole in ____). They really should all be one or the other. (Edit: My personal opinion is that should be classified as belonging to the campaign they transfer from, since those who do not own the originating campaign won't care about the quest to go to the destination, as they can get their by different means from whatever campaign they do own.) (Aiiane - talk - contribs) 23:49, 1 May 2008 (UTC)

(Reset indent) Ok, clear... So long as they're all either one or the other. And, as you said, people who don't have the other campaigns don't care about those quests, so it's no more than logical they'd end up in the quest list of the campaign / extension they transition to. Thanks for the fixing / editing / updating / whatever it is I put you guys through... ;-) --Skabuoy 18:19, 2 May 2008 (UTC)
User Page To Talk Page
Am i able to take stuff from my user page to my talk? If I can, how do I do it?--King Ranik 17:50, 4 May 2008 (UTC)
- Well, you can pretty much do anything with your userpage's content, so yes, you can take stuff from there to your talk page. Since you already have a talk-page created, moving is not an option, so you can just cut (ctrl-x) the content from you userpage, and paste it (ctrl-v) in the talk one. Or you can just delete the content of your userpage and ask your question in one of our help sections.--Fighterdoken 17:59, 4 May 2008 (UTC)

Sorttable
I am trying to figure out how to sort a table with columns that are alpha(numeric) and numeric in the same table. What I am getting is not what I am after... my table is sorting
like this | instead of this |
---|---|
1,245 | 504 |
1,342,454 | 1,245 |
504 | 5,234 |
5,234 | 1,342,454 |
5,693,234 | 5,693,234 |
Any clue how I can sort that column numerically (would I have to padleft with 0's in a <span>?) Code I am working with is here trying to sort the Value column correctly. Problem is, it's being subsituted and I am not sure how that affects the sorting. — Rappy 02:20, 5 May 2008 (UTC)
- Hmm. First, it's not possible to have it sorted automatically, only via the buttons to have the user decide. And second, it seems as if the current script is not working with grouped numbers.. I was working on a sort-script myself a while ago, maybe I should look at that again.. poke | talk 08:54, 5 May 2008 (UTC)
- Yeah I wasn't wanting to sort it automatically (that has to be done with creating the table) ... if you notice, it sorts fine (normally) for the Named Titles, but as far as the numerics go, it does not sort them correctly, (it sorts them based on alphabetic sorting rather than numeric) and I am not sure how to do that in the same table. Meta wiki has an overview here that explains how to do it there with {{smn}} but we don't have that here, and I am not sure how to impliment it correctly. — Rappy 16:33, 6 May 2008 (UTC)

- (edit conflict) MediaWiki has an integrated tag completion to solve major displaying problems when parsing pages. At the end of every page, all open tags are closed (in the reversed order they were opened). This does also apply to templates that were included, so your template will have a closing div at the end no matter if you put one in or not.
- You could use a parameter in which you add the content which should be displayed at the end of the div instead. poke | talk 15:16, 18 May 2008 (UTC)

Non-canon label
I thought I remember seeing a title for pages that weren't in canon with the GW lore (ie. for userpages, player events, etc.), but I can't seem to find it anywhere and I don't know what the code would have been for it. So does anyone know what it is? Or if it happens to just be something I dreamed up, maybe someone should make it? Silavor 20:55, 21 May 2008 (UTC)

- Or maybe something along the lines of Category:Fan fiction? --Kakarot 21:17, 21 May 2008 (UTC)
- I guess it must have been the Community hosted event, since the Fan Fiction category doesn't actually have one of those little boxes. Although it could be helpful to make a singular title for non-canon (the other two are regarding groups), I don't know if it would be used enough to warrant the time, effort, or hard-drive space. Guild type page addition?
On your site here there is a portion that lists several types of guild categories. My question is if you guys would be willing to add one. I run a guild based on helping new members adjust to the game and allows them to stick along as long as they like and if they want to sets them up with a guild of whatever type they want. Since I have started this I have had several people say they liked the idea and might try it themselves. I'm hoping that if you guys added this it would not only help my guild but it would also help the guild wars community by possibly creating a trend.
- My guild is based on a similar idea ;) << horsedrowner | talk | guild >> 05:26, 27 May 2008 (UTC)
- So what would you call this type of guild? "Guilds who help people set up guilds"? Needs a good category name. -- ab.er.rant 05:33, 27 May 2008 (UTC)
- I've heard something (in-game) about "Academy" guilds << horsedrowner | talk | guild >> 05:35, 27 May 2008 (UTC)
You could call it New Player Assistance guilds. That's what my guild is called anyways. "Royals New Player Assistance" is the name.
legendary title
another semantics question from me. it's for User:y0 ich halt/Templates/AllTitles. the case: i have six variables, named TyrianProtector, CanthanProtector, TyrianGuardian and so on. These represent the number of missions completed on the continent in normal or hard mode. now i want to create a legendary guardian algorithm which will calculate the number of completed title tracks automatically.
the only way i could think of is, something like (in words): "If all six are done (=TyrianProtector=25 and CanthanProtector=13 and...), number of finished titles is 6. If TyrianProtector=25 and CanthanProtector=13 and... (except ElonianGuardian=20), number of finished titles is 5..."
the problem with this solution is that i would have to write down all possibilities for 5 of them maxed, for 4 of them maxed, for 3 and for 2 (1 maxed is simply the "else" part). that's in total more than 50 different cases, leading to a huge function. can anyone think of something shorter? not a very important question, but if anyone has too much time at their hands, that's something to think about for a while. if you eventually find something, tell me. - Y0_ich_halt 21:51, 26 May 2008 (UTC)
- How about something like here?, you would need to work it a bit though...--Fighterdoken 22:09, 26 May 2008 (UTC)
- You can use "expr" and "ifeq" to accomplish the boolean check. If TyrianProtector=25, then +1, else +0, etc. You might also want to see how the "maxed titles track" is counted in {{title list}} (scroll down to about the middle). -- ab.er.rant 02:30, 27 May 2008 (UTC)
- i read somewhere about a "variables extension". i'm not sure about it, but does that extension allow me to add variables for a whole page? that would be awesome :D in the meantime, i think i'll stick with #expr:, thanks ^^ - Y0_ich_halt 11:31, 27 May 2008 (UTC)
- Yeps. Can't remeber where we put the documentation, if we did. Possibly have to go to the mediawiki wiki or so. You can see it used in Template:Titles nav. Backsword 11:36, 27 May 2008 (UTC)

How do i add my guild?
I want to make a page with the info on my guild but I haven't the slightest idea how ><
- fill in your guild name here in the edit window: Guild:(name), click "show preview", click the red link. you'll reach your new guild page, but without any content. see Guild_Wars_Wiki:Formatting/Guilds on what your guild page has to look like in order to be conform with the policy (GWW:GUILDS). btw, i have a guide for wiki editing in general here. and please sign your comments by clicking the "signature" button in the edit window or by typing four tildes (
~~~~
) - Y0_ich_halt 15:27, 30 May 2008 (UTC)- as an example what your guild page could look like: Guild:Example Guild. - Y0_ich_halt 15:28, 30 May 2008 (UTC)
- Or just put the following into your browser's address bar: http://wiki.guildwars.com/wiki/Guild:YOUR GUILD NAME HERE and press enter. Since the page won't exist yet, it'll display a form to create a page for that guild, hopefully with the name already filled in. Assuming the name looks right, just hit the button to create the page, it'll automatically fill it in with an example template for you to modify. (Aiiane - talk - contribs) 15:34, 30 May 2008 (UTC)
Image Appearance on Mac vs. PC
I've noticed that many of the images, such as this one, show up very dark on the Mac I use but perfect on the PC I use. I use Safari and firefox on the Mac (OSX), IE7 on the PC (XP). Is this a wiki problem or an OS problem? If wiki, is it rectifiable? Mohnzh say what? 20:50, 30 May 2008 (UTC)
- The wiki does not modify images. Chances are it's a function of the Gamma correction setting of one of your computer's monitors being different from the other's. (Aiiane - talk - contribs) 20:55, 30 May 2008 (UTC)
- Take a look at this image and squint your eyes a bit (if you're using a browser that auto-shrinks large images, make sure to expand it to its full size) - what's the number where the bars on the left side are about the same brightness as the gray on the right? - It is different for different browsers even on the Mac. Firefox = 1.2, safari = 3.0. Thanks for brightening that image. I will have to check it at home on the PC to see if that whitewashed it. It now looks on these browsers the way it did from home where I upload all my images. Mohnzh say what? 13:51, 2 June 2008 (UTC)
Finding Guild Page
Why can't i get my page to show up via browsing for it. I have to search for it just to find it. http://wiki.guildwars.com/wiki/Guild:Royals_New_Player_Assistance#Recruitment that's the page i can't find >< --The preceding unsigned comment was added by User:71.84.211.103 (talk).
- The easiest way to get to your guild page is through the F10 menu in game, just click on the link for your guild. Otherwise in the search box, type Guild:Royals New Player Assistance and it should come up. You can also just bookmark it in your browser.-- Wynthyst 06:00, 31 May 2008 (UTC)
- There isn't really a way to "browse" to it, unles you link to it from elsewhere. Because it is in Category:Recruiting PvE guilds, you can do this from the main page:
Player Guilds > Guilds by play style > PvE guilds > Recruiting PvE guilds > R > Guild:Royals New Player Assistance
. This will work for any categories you place the guild in in the future too. Biscuits 10:36, 31 May 2008 (UTC)
