Table editing help request![edit]

Ok my requests are always odd and wierd: I have three tables at User:Chieftain Alex/sandbox, I'm looking at the third one - there is an orange heading band, followed by a series of rows with weapons in them (no icons). How can I insert a light grey/silver line between the rows only? (I want to keep the main background white and the top bit in orange) I was thinking

<hr> </ hr>

could be used somewhere but idk yet.. thoughts? File:User Chieftain Alex Chieftain Signature.jpg Chieftain Alex 12:28, 1 May 2012 (UTC)

Neither weird nor hard. I made you an easy example of use + your recolored table in my sandbox.-- Sagi User Sagittario Asura symbol.png 08:51, 10 May 2012 (UTC)
I see what you've done, but that has a line between columns too :p (I'd asked for rows), but I can't even remember why I didn't want the current setup in my sandbox, so consider case closed. File:User Chieftain Alex Chieftain Signature.jpg Chieftain Alex 12:45, 10 May 2012 (UTC)

Image redirect question[edit]

So basicly, when someone clicks on this icon User Sagittario Main page.png he/she is redirected to my main page, but there's the annoying "(Redirected from File:User Sagittario Main page.png)". This doesn't happen when I click on an image on GWW main page. How have you managed to hide that? Thanks in advance -- Sagi User Sagittario Asura symbol.png 08:57, 10 May 2012 (UTC)

Just like my signature, you want the link parameter:

Which produces the appearance of: User Sagittario Main page.png
File:User Chieftain Alex Chieftain Signature.jpg Chieftain Alex 12:47, 10 May 2012 (UTC)
Awesome! Thanks Alex -- Sagi User Sagittario Asura symbol.png 13:15, 10 May 2012 (UTC)

Failed Feedbacks[edit]

Check this one: Feedback:User/Titani_Ertan/Allied_Battle_AI Revision as of 09:59, 2009 September 21 by Titani Ertan.

Observation: Adjust (old) hero AI to not rush for a spirit, is NO suggestion.

Countdown timers[edit]

I have seen clocks in special events but don't know where to find...their templates? Can we have one for the iirc with Lo Presti or somebody help me include one in my talk page? The difference between timezones is a killer for me, even when very good at maths. User Yoshida Keiji Signature.jpg Yoshida Keiji talk 23:11, 12 June 2012 (UTC)

The template and example of use are in my Sandbox. Here's the source code:

And the timezones are real horror in summer because not every country has DST and Anet often ignores DST. -- Sagi User Sagittario Asura symbol.png 06:13, 13 June 2012 (UTC)
I think something is wrong there because the countdown says meeting already started... User Yoshida Keiji Signature.jpg Yoshida Keiji talk 08:14, 13 June 2012 (UTC)

Recent Changes Spamming[edit]

I remember I did this myself when I was a wiki noob, anybody can check my contributions back to my early days to find out. I kept doing that for three days and got a message in my talk page to use "preview". Since GWW is in low activity the 500 last edits can still let me see past the spams. I wander...What would happen in GW2W immediatly after it's release if just 5 players make around 100 edits each...how are we supposed to bookkeep?

What can a registered user do besides using a spammer's talk page if he/she is still not reacting to other's messages? User Yoshida Keiji Signature.jpg Yoshida Keiji talk 07:58, 19 June 2012 (UTC)

Beyond telling a vandal/troll to stop, the only thing a normal user can do is report them on the Admin Noticeboard (GW2W) and keep reverting any changes they make until an admin can deal with them. It's not a perfect system, but I'm sure you can see the implications of giving regular users "power" over each other (don't read into my word choice there, I'm tired :P).
That said, regular maintenance just depends on a dedicated community and spamming F5 on the Recent Changes page. If you start patrolling regularly, one method can be to scroll down to the last instance of someone reverting vandalism or an admin intervening and scan "up" (to the present) from there, that way you can reasonably assume that any edits prior have already been checked. I'm sure the community as a whole has learned a lot on the matter from this wiki that they'll carry over to the GW2W, and combined with the automated tools (such as AbuseFilter), I'm sure we'll have a handle on things. On a side note, I believe there are programs designed to make patrolling RC a lot easier, although for that Google can help you more than I can. ~FarloUser Farlo Triad.pngTalk 08:38, 19 June 2012 (UTC)
I forgot to mention one thing. Can't the Recent Changes have a function feature to introduce other user's names so that it won't list the edits of such people to clean up the Recent Changes listing? This would help "real" contributors to check without spams interference. User Yoshida Keiji Signature.jpg Yoshida Keiji talk 08:48, 19 June 2012 (UTC)
Not that I'm aware of... aside from the toggles at the top of the page I don't think there's any way to exclude certain edits or users. Again, 3rd-party tools might have that feature, but I've never looked into those. ~FarloUser Farlo Triad.pngTalk 08:59, 19 June 2012 (UTC)

I don't know how to fix this[edit]

http://wiki.guildwars.com/wiki/Gallery_of_Peacekeeper_weapons

To me it says "Extension:DynamicPageList (DPL), version 2.0 : WARNING: No results." - I dunno how to fix this, or where to put it to flag it as a faulty page, but hopefully here it will receive some attention. Cheers. --Alex User AlexEternal Mr Bear.jpgEternal 17:52, 4 July 2012 (UTC)

It cannot be easily fixed; the page was originally created without the necessary categories on certain other articles (mostly because the idea was implemented before it was discussed, fleshed out). Let me see what I can do to adjust things for now. --The preceding unsigned comment was added by Tennessee Ernie Ford (talk) at 18:16, 4 July 2012 (UTC).

DPL Manual (a copy on this wiki?)[edit]

Hiya. As per the notice at the top of the mediawiki page, The site with the DPL manual on has been afflicted for at least 6 months with a virus such that any time you follow the link to the manual you could end up with a virus on your pc.

I'm in the process of copying most of the content from that manual and changing the examples to suit this wiki, I'm wondering if I could put this manual under some place like Help:DPL manual & put the sub pages from the corrupted site as sub pages of that help page. It seems to have this license which allows it to be copied but not massively edited (probably fixing the links such that they link to the correct pages would be ok)..

Also I won't want to link to the original version since theres a virus on that site as said above. File:User Chieftain Alex Chieftain Signature.jpg Chieftain Alex 17:20, 15 August 2012 (UTC)

Guild Wars Wiki Dump[edit]

Hi,

I was wondering if there was a dump of all pages on the wiki I could download for personal use. I just want to parse through the dump of wiki files to try and correlate certain things with other things. Like figure out who drops what items and so forth.

It seems this question has been unanswered for a very long time: http://wiki.guildwars.com/wiki/Guild_Wars_Wiki_talk:About#Dump_Available_-_Usable.3F

I also found this: http://archive.org/details/wiki.guildwars.com but unfortunately it doesn't seem to be be a full dump, it only includes the edit history.

Thanks for your help in advance!

--192.168.103.30 23:31, 28 August 2012 (UTC)

That first topic was actually about porting over the old GuildWiki to this one - and trying to obtain a dump from gravewit/fyren/wikia. You could put in a tech request for it, I'd imagine ANet's fairly busy atm but it's not terribly difficult so they'd get to it at some point. -Auron 13:17, 29 August 2012 (UTC)
Thanks for the quick answer. I'll request it but I doubt they'll have time considering GW2 just launched. --192.55.54.42 16:59, 30 August 2012 (UTC)

Template:Skill infobox[edit]

For some reason, when the "categorize" parameter is set to no on Skill infobox, it creates a white space below the concise description. E.g., Lightning Orb (PvP) with categorize set to "y" and then set to "n". Can the infobox be edited to not add that white space? --Silver Edge 06:06, 15 September 2012 (UTC)

How to link undo of elder revisions in Summary?[edit]

I was fixing Claude's page with speculative attributes, an old revision Revision as of 09:57, 5 January 2008 by Gordon Ecker, I can link like this in talk pages... but for some reason this doesn't work on summaries. User Yoshida Keiji Signature.jpg Yoshida Keiji (talk) 08:39, 7 October 2012 (UTC)

You can't link to them. (the summary panel uses non formatting wiki markup e.g. Link works but Name doesn't), does not accept templates, and does not accept hyperlinks.) Chieftain Alex 10:43, 8 October 2012 (UTC)

Local IP 192.168.103.xx recorded as signature[edit]

In the last couple months, IP signatures are being recorded as some local IP, like 192.168.103.50 - is this a result of a recent version upgrade, or some plugin that was added in the last 2 months? 76.164.65.219 17:17, 15 October 2012 (UTC)

An amusing side-effect of this strange bug is the recent block for IP 192.168.103.53 which is local to the wiki.guildwars.com server. Obviously there is some problem that is causing external IPs to be treated as local internal ones. Who is the right person that needs to know about this? 76.164.65.219 18:10, 16 October 2012 (UTC)

User boxes?[edit]

I'm not sure how to make one. I'm not sure if someone made it already. What does it take to run this wiki?[edit]

What are the resources that are needed to run this wiki? man power, servers, etc... I am interested in starting a wiki (completely unrelated to guild wars or video games)that could potentially grow to this size. Thanks

If you just want a wiki with little hassle then you can start one on Wikia for example. You will have adds and will have to respect their policies, but the side has many great wikies such as Wookieepedia.
If you want to setup your own standalone wiki on a web server you can find the installation requirements here. In general the Mediawiki site should have answers to all your questions.
As for the manpower required you don't need more then 1 person to "run" a wiki, but you need a lot of people to edit content and over time some "moderators" to settle debates and such. It's not unlike a forum, except that, since anyone can edit, the community can self moderate itself to a degree. Roar! Poki#3 (talk) 12:17, 19 December 2012 (UTC)

Nicholas the Traveler and Main Page/activities[edit]

For some reason, the current item Nicholas the Traveler wants and his location doesn't display on Nicholas the Traveler#Locations and Main Page/activities (which is transcluded onto Main Page), even though it appears Nicholas the Traveler/Research has been updated correctly. --Silver Edge 06:45, 15 January 2013 (UTC)

We have 197 entries of data, so I thought we might be near the maximum number of template queries we could dpl in, but even after deleting all the other rows out of /research, that doesn't fix it. Oddly though, my test query (a copy of the dpl at the top of Nicholas' page) on User:Chieftain Alex/sandbox 2 doesn't get any results.. which is why the nicholas page is blank. unfortunately I don't quite understand all the templates being used + how they mesh:
Nicholas the Traveler research - this one only does the row presentation, nothing complex there..
- - they both format the results of the dpl based on the date range of the last week..
I can't see why anything would go spectacularly wrong unless mediawiki changed the date format without our knowing again? :/
Meh, the date format is the same as it was + still working fine. Chieftain Alex 11:02, 15 January 2013 (UTC)
I switched the date to January 15 on the research page, and that updated the main page, but not the Nick page. Both pages displayed correctly when I updated the research page on January 14, so something changed since then that caused the issue. I cannot find it, and I'm not going to mess with the code and templates. Hopefully that helps narrow down the problem. Gwynna Vive 23:15, 15 January 2013 (UTC)

Is it possible to delete a Wiki account?[edit]

Forgive me if this has been asked before. If no talk nor edits have been posted, is it possible to delete the account? I see that it is impossible to change the username. I understand that you might have a problem with deleting accounts and then someone stealing work, but in this case that would not be a problem. Thank you.

Nope. Any user that wishes to quit/leave can simply stop editing, or put user request on their user page if they want it gone. -Auron 06:01, 28 January 2013 (UTC)

Help with code[edit]

Lieutenant Thackeray/Collector2 is currently set to not display the heading and his location when transcluded on Keiran Thackeray, but what needs to be edited so it also doesn't display the heading and his location when transcluded on Votive Candle? Thanks. --Silver Edge 23:24, 11 February 2014 (UTC)

Right now, that one article is the only exception to the transclusion. Adding Votive Candle to the #ifeq should generate the same effect on that article. - Infinite - talk 00:03, 12 February 2014 (UTC)
ifeq is for single comparison cases, so you want #switch:. Since #switch uses equal signs to set the response to each case, it also needs "#default" for the default setting.. otherwise it thinks its a case with a value named "====". -Chieftain Alex 00:07, 12 February 2014 (UTC)

Is it possible to delete my account>?[edit]

I wonder if its possible to delete my account for LukeD1uk, so the wiki page doesnt show up in google.

Thanks you --The preceding unsigned comment was added by User:LukeD1uk (talk).

MediaWiki has an extension to rename users on a wiki, but it appears GWW doesn't have it installed. I'm not sure what the policy is here, but moving your user page(s) to a name you currently do not own is not usually allowed. As far as Google searches, you can contact Google to no longer index your pages (faster) or add __NOINDEX__ to them (slower). Note: this will take some time before Google (or other search engines) drop the page(s) when using this magic word.Rappy 21:13, 18 February 2014 (UTC)
Easiest way to stop the wiki page existing in google is to delete it. (cons: you don't get a userspace). As to indexing, guess answer above will do.
Bureaucrats can merge your account if you ask at Guild Wars Wiki:Requests for user merge - sign with both accounts - as Rappy said though, the process is to ask for permission first, and then move the pages later. I doubt it will cause much of a problem, the only problem being if a bcrat is actually watching that page still... you will have to register the account that you want to continue editing with before going any further though. Chieftain Alex 21:35, 18 February 2014 (UTC)
Bcrats are often on IRC, so they can simply be notified if the page has pending requests. -Auron 01:29, 19 February 2014 (UTC)
I've moved your pages back to where they started, because they were not consistent + the final username was unclear. Just let a bcrat move it when you finally respond + ask them. -Chieftain Alex 16:51, 24 February 2014 (UTC)

Searching for matching substrings in Page Title/URL only[edit]

Hi. I would like to search the GW1 wiki for all pages which have their Title/URL (NOT the in-page text) containing a certain string.

For example, when I search for "whip" (http://wiki.guildwars.com/index.php?title=Special%3ASearch&profile=default&search=whip&fulltext=Search), only Felinam the Whip and Tongue Whip appear as part of my desired results, but not stuff like Whiptail Devourer and Ore Darkwhip.

So, how do I search for every article that has a certain string that can appear anywhere (even as part of a longer string) in the article's Title? --15:28, 28 September 2015 (UTC)175.145.185.95

One option is the power of google. You can put whip site:wiki.guildwars.com/wiki/ into the search bar and get a fair number of pop ups.
You can also use the search bar here with old DOS commands (I didn't expect this to work). This one misses Ore Darkwhip, though. G R E E N E R 18:46, 28 September 2015 (UTC)

I tried google and added a filter for Page Title matches only (since the above also searched in-page text): https://www.google.com/search?q=allintitle%3A%20whip%20site%3Ahttp%3A%2F%2Fwiki.guildwars.com%2F&oq=allintitle%3A%20whip%20site%3Ahttp%3A%2F%2Fwiki.guildwars.com%2F&ie=UTF-8&aqs=chrome..69i57j69i58j69i60l2.6174j0j7&sourceid=chrome-instant&ion=1&bav=on.2,or.r_cp.&bvm=bv.103388427,d.c2E&biw=1536&bih=752&dpr=1.25&ech=1&psi=_JcJVoPaKIW0uATRo6q4BA.1443469309225.3&ei=_JcJVoPaKIW0uATRo6q4BA&emsg=NCSR&noj=1 It seems the "power" of google is essentially only able to give Felinam the Whip and Tongue Whip, which is certainly dismaying.

I tried the DOS wildcard on this wiki's search also, and it seems that GWW's search ignores prefix wildcards. Compare: postfix wildcard: http://wiki.guildwars.com/index.php?title=Special%3ASearch&profile=default&search=whip*&fulltext=Search vs prefix wildcard: http://wiki.guildwars.com/index.php?title=Special%3ASearch&profile=default&search=*whip&fulltext=Search with the latter being equivalent to searching without the wildcard character.

The DOS wildcard method definitely works better than google, but I'm wondering if there's a way to enable GWW to recognise the prefix wildcard character, because that would definitely solve the problem. --19:50, 28 September 2015 (UTC)175.145.185.95

Well, if it is ignoring the prefix, then it is probably capitalizing the search parameter (changing "whip" to "Whip"). This could be why it's ignoring Ore Darkwhip. I went through the API, and I wasn't able to find a means of searching that would fit this situation. Sorry. G R E E N E R 04:05, 29 September 2015 (UTC)

I see. Thanks for helping.

I did some googling on google's advanced search, and it seems that google doesn't do something called "stemming" for only 1 search term (such as whip), and that's why it could only find exact matches (Felinam the Whip and Tongue Whip) but not when the string is part of a larger string (such as Whiptail Devourer and Ore Darkwhip).

I couldn't find a way around this limitation (I'm puzzled why stemming isn't always enabled), and I'm quite disappointed in google for this. So it looks like we've hit a dead-end in finding a solution. --175.145.185.95 12:23, 29 September 2015 (UTC)

Finding User information on the wiki[edit]

Hello - I was gone from the game for several years after my GW game account got hacked and all my loot and gold were stolen. I just came back, and was trying to fire up my 55 necro again for old times sake. I'm struggling with it and remembered that I had written a very detailed writeup on how to solo 55 in vulture drifts, in both easy and hard modes. I do not remember where exactly I posted it but it is not on the Vulture Drifts nor the 55 necro pages.

I also had a pretty extensive character page but do not see that anymore either. Finally, I cannot remember what username I had on the wiki so cannot log in to my previous wiki user account. So my questions are,

 • do character pages still live on the wiki?
 • would you be able to find my old (probably 2010 or earlier) account information to help me log back in? I'm pretty sure the username was brankoz, but cannot be certain.
 • any ideas how I might be able to get back to that 55 necro writeup?

If it helps, here are some of my character names that would have been referenced on the account:

 • Magic Stix
 • Mrtva Je Zivota
 • Arrostia Encephalon
 • Svedski Noz

--The preceding unsigned comment was added by 96.58.193.244 (talk) at 19:13, 11 January 2016‎ (UTC).

Hi there. So a few things that I've found.
 • There is no usage of any of your character names in the User section.
 • Your current IP has not ever created an account on this wiki.
 • You may be on the wrong wiki. This link will make you happy.
Enjoy! G R E E N E R 19:38, 11 January 2016 (UTC)

Where are the template data stored (e.g. data for "Nicholas the Traveler/Cycle|-4 weeks")?[edit]

moved from Guild Wars Wiki:Admin noticeboard

I'm new to wiki and markup, I see examples of []. So far I understand this to be a template with the parameter "1 week".

Could someone let me know where these templates or variable definitions (such as #var:NicholasQuantity) are stored (and their scope, since the template above is in effect even on this page)? Alternatively, please suggest reading materials (I've yet to answer these myself having only briefly read the markup pages on wiki/mediawiki). Thank you very much.

I will delete this post in a day, save for the username request. I wasn't sure where to ask questions yet and decided to put it here for now. --The preceding unsigned comment was added by 107.3.188.161 (talk) at 07:46, 9 February 2016‎ (UTC).

I've moved this to a more appropriate location. Hopefully someone who has more knowledge in templates will be able to swing by and answer your questions. As it stands, MediaWiki's template info may be the best place to start. G R E E N E R 08:19, 9 February 2016 (UTC)
It appears that I should be able to find template data on its own page. However, links in the following don't appear to lead to such a data page (in this case, a page containing possibly all the locations of Nicholas) http://wiki.guildwars.com/wiki/Template:Nicholas_the_Traveler/Cycle http://wiki.guildwars.com/wiki/Special:ListTransclusions/Nicholas_the_Traveler/Cycle The templates above contain only descriptions of their syntax and not the actual data. I'll be reading more on the topic as well user:KittensMiao 11:11AM, 9 February 2016 (UTC)
One tip I can give you about using the wiki is using the "Show Preview" button next to the "Save Page" button, saving your edits without previewing and then doing a dozen of minor changes clutters up the Recent Changes list. Aside from that, welcome to the family ^^ Jeree95 (talk) 17:35, 9 February 2016 (UTC)
I shall be using "Show Preview"; somehow I forgot all changes are tracked. Thanks for the suggestion and sorry for the earlier posting mess user:KittensMiao 9:43 PM, 9 February 2016 (UTC)
Checking Nicholas the Traveler/Cycle's transclusion list (which you mentioned above), it lists Template:Cycle/Nicholas, which contains the data. --Silver Edge 22:32, 9 February 2016 (UTC)
Thanks, I didn't understand its content when I first saw that page. I had expected some table of "raw" data yesterday (e.g., entries for locations and regions, among others, to be on the page). The template above states that "brace-brace Cycle|type|date brace-brace" should be used for accessing the listed variables. I was trying to reconcile this format with what was used on the traveler's page, i.e., "brace-brace Nicholas the Traveler/Cycle|-4 weeks brace-brace" (http://wiki.guildwars.com/wiki/Nicholas_the_Traveler/Cycle). However, I'm getting more familiar with the material, and I think I will be able to resolve any remaining questions. My purpose was only to obtain up-to-date cycle information for translation. I found string replace on the fly slow for some reason and sought to translate "raw" data ahead of time to mitigate the problem. user:KittensMiao 11:29 PM, 9 February 2016 (UTC)

Justification[edit]

Is there a way to align text as justified at all? I see there are templates for Left, Centre & Right, however, I cannot seem to find one for paragraph text justification, or figure out how to align it justifiably otherwise. -- My Talk Lacky 04:03, 25 April 2016 (UTC)

Based on w:Typographic alignment#Examples, it's possible. See https://en.wikipedia.org/w/index.php?title=Typographic_alignment&action=edit&section=6. --Silver Edge 06:54, 25 April 2016 (UTC)
Excellent, that's brilliant! Thank you! -- My Talk Lacky 08:11, 26 April 2016 (UTC)

Translation of wiki possible?[edit]

Hi, I've amassed a mini dictionary worth of translanations for GW1 related terms. This was the byproduct of my personal project to build GW1 documentation for my non-English speaking friends.

Is there a way to incorporate this dictionary into this site so that a click of a button would suffice to translate, if only partially, the existing page into another language? (I understand that separate wikis serving content in different languages already exist. However, none are as accurate as this one) Thank you.--KittensMiao

Just curious about namespaces[edit]

I'm in no way administratively or wiki-technically inclined, so forgive my potentially shortsighted question: what happens when a namespace is removed from the wiki at a base level? Does only the namespace disappear? Are the pages that were created within the namespace also removed, or are they left behind with a non-functioning namespace prefix? Would it be possible to archive an entire namespace easily and/or publicly? There are some ideas I have been contemplating, but I would need to know some technical details to proceed. I cannot access IRC right now (or this month at all), as such I'm hoping for a reply here. - Infinite - talk 08:37, 7 September 2017 (UTC)

Technical info can be found on Using custom namespaces. They offer some ways to handle the wiki no longer recognizing a certain namespace number. That's about as much help as I can offer, sorry. G R E E N E R 15:23, 7 September 2017 (UTC)

Question about Skill Damage Tables[edit]

I notice that skill damage tables are labeled + damage.

Does this means this is in addition to the default damage for the weapon used or is it really just the total damage?

Thanks,

-- Duals (talk) 19:24, 4 January 2019 (UTC)

If a skill description mentions + damage, it most usually means additional damage. In almost all cases this additional damage is also armour ignoring (whereas weapon damage itself is not), particularly when it comes to weapon skills. See also: Attack_skill#Game_mechanics. - Infinite - talk 20:14, 4 January 2019 (UTC)

Skills Tracker[edit]

I have made a skills tracker through Excel that tracks all the skills not only by the profession and attribute they are, but also through the campaign it was used. I would like to spread the information to others instead of just my friends. How exactly may I go about giving that information, and does it need to go through yall to see it? Borkahn Stormwind (talk) 06:04, 12 January 2019 (UTC)

That's a kind offer to the community. The best place this wiki can provide is a subpage in your user namespace, such as User:Borkahn Stormwind/Skill tracker. You can leave a link to the document there, as well as general instructions on its use. The abuse filter may stop you from posting the link initially, as external links can be malicious. If you are having trouble getting the link posted, let me know and I'll try to have it posted for you. G R E E N E R 17:45, 12 January 2019 (UTC)

Purging mainpage cache on mobile[edit]

How? Can't click clock, there is none on mobile version. Only way is to change to desktop mode as far as I can see, which is mildly annoying. Also had to use desktop to have the "+" to add this new section easially without having to hit edit, scroll thru everything, know wiki-fu to add new section properly. Durp da durp (talk) 16:24, 28 April 2020 (UTC)

 • I've updated the clock script for desktop users so it should appear on every page load (it was a bit buggy before + always required you to click a confirm button).
 • For mobile users, I've added a "Purge" button to the mobile UI menu accessed from the top-left of any page. Unlike in desktop mode you'll have to then click a confirm button, I can't avoid that.
There's no actual clock on mobile because it's just more JS overhead to load, and that isn't needed imo.
I'll now have a think about the add new section button. -Chieftain Alex 17:16, 28 April 2020 (UTC)
I've confirmed that there's no equivalent to either "+" (monobook) or "Add topic" (vector) within Minerva (the mobile skin). Most of the article namespace with the new topic button have links within the prose anyway- e.g. this page has a big "Click here to ask your question about using Guild Wars Wiki" link.
Conventional talk pages all have an "add discussion" button at the bottom of them, so I don't see an issue here tbh. -Chieftain Alex 17:23, 28 April 2020 (UTC)
The need to confirm was something that I found annoying in the past - and never thought about to feedback here. So thanks for the improvement. Steve1 (talk) 17:32, 28 April 2020 (UTC)

July 2020 Gold Cape.[edit]

Hey,

The Monthly Automated Tournament of this month happened and i was wondering how to add the references of the guild and players, as it's been done in the past. I'm inclined to help and maybe save you some time on typing/

I will give you the informations and a YouTube link of the finals match so you can verify the authenticity of the goldcape.

I have updated the Gold trim guilds page with the information above. The wiki has locked down the Guild namespace and the creation of a page for the guild is no longer possible. More information on that topic can be found on the community talk page. Greener (talk) 05:22, 20 July 2020 (UTC)

Can I share an addon for another user's texture mod?[edit]

I made an addon to the Minimalus mod for my personal use that overwrites some of the UI elements, but I think others might find it useful too, so I'm wondering what's the policy about sharing it on the wiki. It feels a bit grey area, as some of my modifications were built using the graphical elements made by the original creator of the mod. (I tried to reach out to the creator a few months ago, but received no response.) -- kazerniel (talk) 00:35, 22 August 2020 (UTC)

All user-created content (meaning, excluding ArenaNet content) is licensed under the GNU Free Documentation License 1.2, which (in a nutshell) allows you to edit and modify other's contributions as long as you maintain attribution. I am not a lawyer, but as far as I am aware, there should be no issue with you adding your updated version to the wiki. horrible | contribs 00:42, 22 August 2020 (UTC)

Why does my user space have categories?[edit]

So, I come up with dumb ideas for "what if certain things were in Guild Wars" and write them down in my User Space as if they were official, and I noticed that my Explorable Area, called Ullen Basin, showed up under the Maguuma Jungle Explorable Areas category. At first I thought it was because it was my user page, but when I signed out, it was still there. This isn't happening with any other sub-pages, as far as I'm aware, which is weird, since all of my enemy ideas are also formatted in the official style. Is there any way to get rid of the categories? VictoryStar 7 (talk) 07:48, 10 March 2021 (UTC)

It's pulling the categories automatically from the infobox. You could try to create your own infobox on a subpage like here. Other than that I can't think of how to get rid of the categories. If I think of something I'll let you know. User DrogoBoffin new sig.png Drogo Boffin 08:38, 10 March 2021 (UTC)
Yup, it's definitely Template:Location infobox, which automatically categorises locations. I think all the wiki experts are still asleep, but I'm sure it's going to be one of those magical noinclude thingies. — snogratUser Snograt signature.png 12:55, 10 March 2021 (UTC)
I've hackily updated the template so that it only categorizes things in the main namespace, which should hopefully solve this issue. (If it happens with other templates in the future, someone should be able to implement the same fix there as well) horrible | contribs 14:06, 10 March 2021 (UTC)
Well, I don't see categories on my page anymore. Hopefully it doesn't happen again. Thanks! VictoryStar 7 (talk) 15:29, 10 March 2021 (UTC) 15:28, 10 March 2021 (UTC)

Getting data via API (JSON?)[edit]

I would like to make an Android app/widget that displays the information from Main Page/activities. While I would gladly share anything I produce that's worth releasing, I would be doing it primarily for my own use. So, rather than program the app to calculate the daily/weekly events (and make changes if the cycle is ever changed or reset), I thought it would be better to utilize existing resources and rely on the wiki. I was hoping there was a REST API that I could use to get the data in JSON format, but browser dev tools indicate the web page is being sent whole as HTML. Is there a better way to get the data than just parsing the HTML document? Thanks! --RoyHarmon (talk) 23:11, 10 June 2023 (UTC)
