Its here![edit]

Lots of changes, and new summoning stones! Me likes. Kinda dissapointing there where no future skill balances though. Still alot of elites could use some rework or buffs. SniperFoxUser SniperFox IconSmall.gif 00:18, 14 November 2008 (UTC)

Agreed, but any idiot can see where they got the names for the NPCs...
Go wiki! --User Brains12 Spiral.png Brains12 \ talk 00:30, 14 November 2008 (UTC)
Errr... I dont actually think its from the wiki. I think its from GWonline. Gordon, Aiiane and Anja are all moderators over on that site. Edit: just checked and I'm almost sure now, as Gorani is barely active on the wiki but hes very active over on gwonline. -- Salome User salome sig2.png 00:34, 14 November 2008 (UTC)
That's... hm. I didn't even know Gordon was a mod there (I assume Anja's not Astor, then?). --User Brains12 Spiral.png Brains12 \ talk 00:40, 14 November 2008 (UTC)
Well im going through the names that have been added and they are all active users from gwonline, most of them are mods or are so active as to seem to be mods. As for our Anja and the GWO Anja, I always thought it was the same woman. If it's not I must apologise to our Anja for the assumption. Anyhoo if you look through the guiilds they belonbg too, they are mostly either in the GWO alliance or Zoo, which are all GWO based guilds. -- Salome User salome sig2.png 00:47, 14 November 2008 (UTC)
I don't think Anja's ever mentioned being a mod on GWonline, so I don't think they are the same. She's also in my alliance, so not in the GWO guilds. --User Brains12 Spiral.png Brains12 \ talk 00:53, 14 November 2008 (UTC)
Actually I think you are right Brains. I just went on a wee hunt and found that although alot of the names are GWO mods some of the peeps are wiki mods and some of them are guru mods. So basically they've picked a few from each of the elite fan sites. SO congrats to them all and sorry for the confusion i caused then Brains. It's just i knew a few of the peeps were not on the wiki but were on gwo. -- Salome User salome sig2.png 00:59, 14 November 2008 (UTC)
I asked Linsey just incase; best to iron out any confusion (especially considering they'll be popping up as trivia in the respective articles). So, go Guild Wars community! --User Brains12 Spiral.png Brains12 \ talk 01:03, 14 November 2008 (UTC)
To clarify I'm a fanny and had both anja and gordon confused with other people on GWO. However Gorani and Alaris are active GWO members and alot of the other wiki unknowns are GWG regulars. -- Salome User salome sig2.png 01:04, 14 November 2008 (UTC)

(Reset indent) LOL, The first three names I searched on gwo's database was Aiiane, Alaris and Gorani, all of which came up with huge amounts of posts. Thus my initial conclusion above. However I've now done Gordon and Anja's name and they have virtually no presence on gwo under those names. I was getting Anja and Cerelia confused with one another like a numpty, mainly due to their similar writing style not to mention their similar ways in dealing with issues. The moral of the story is I suppose for me to check all the names before drawing a conclusion in the future. LOL -- Salome User salome sig2.png 01:13, 14 November 2008 (UTC)

This update is two years too late for me. I finished Factions too many times with my chars. I really don't want to go back and do it all over again. --SK 07:06, 14 November 2008 (UTC)

At least I can go PvE all over again for a purpose! Storybooks for some kind of rewards is alright in my book...I mean, alright... too bad no skill balance. Oh well at least we can expect a lot of PvP players in PvE.--ShadowFog 00:57, 14 November 2008 (UTC)
And even if you repeat the missions for the other side, you can't get the faction you've lost because they've given you the faction already :< Murex 03:21, 14 November 2008 (UTC)
Ya, the faction is all dumped on for both sides at once. I can't play both sides, like I normally do, by just bumping up one side's faction at a time. Seems a shame to lose half of all that faction. Cameronl | talk 06:37, 14 November 2008 (UTC)

Great, another one of these updates...[edit]

Revival of Elite missions???[edit]

with the new way of increasing faction cap, do u guys think the Deep and Urgoz will be full of life again???

You know, just maybe! Vael Victus Pancakes. 05:37, 14 November 2008 (UTC)
They never really stopped. The reason Deep dropped off was complicated but it didn't get real bad until they decided to change Viper's Defense causing the otherwise easily manageable Oni of the Deep spawns to bounce all over the place. There was also some debate over whether or not the patrol patterns in the already bad Scorpion were shifted around (I couldn't see any difference). 98.219.48.111 14:37, 14 November 2008 (UTC)

Question, most obvious one[edit]

Are we going to have to do ALL those quests and missions again to raise our max possible alliance reputation or are they going to give it to those of us who have done it already? Another question: Are we going to have to get the story books and do the whole campaign again or are they going to fill out by themselves?--User Master Fast sig-icon.pngShinigami King 00:33, 14 November 2008 (UTC)

It6 clearly states in the notes that if you have already done this it will be updated automatically. As for the storybooks not so sure. -- Salome User salome sig2.png 00:35, 14 November 2008 (UTC)
Just checked in game, storybooks not filled out and guy has no option to fill them out for money like the EotN one do--Amantis 00:38, 14 November 2008 (UTC)
Yeah I checked too, I have max 35k Kurz faction and 20k Lux. As for the books no I think I have to go do the missions again. But this is awesome. Anyone know what the books will eventually be for? So far I can only get the Hard Mode version of Young Heroes of Tyria, is there a normal mode? --User Master Fast sig-icon.pngShinigami King 00:41, 14 November 2008 (UTC)
I haven't been able to get the update yet, what does the young heroes of tyria book even do? --Goteki-45 00:44, 14 November 2008 (UTC)
It's kinda like a BMP for people who have all 3 campaigns. And I checked and there's only a HM version of it. --User Master Fast sig-icon.pngShinigami King 00:45, 14 November 2008 (UTC)
Yet it does not say WHAT we gotta do for the Young Heroes. All "tutorial" missions? Those are only 10. And then all last missions? Kind of odd but that adds to 13... Ɲoɕʈɋɽɕɧ 00:50, 14 November 2008 (UTC)

What's the maximum faction cap for the Kurz and Lux meters? Several other people have 35k and so do I, I'm thinking that's the cap right now, any evidence that says otherwise? --User Master Fast sig-icon.pngShinigami King 01:12, 14 November 2008 (UTC)
Just got the update and logged on all my chars, I'm sitting at 45k kurzick and 27k luxon for caps. --Goteki-45 01:17, 14 November 2008 (UTC)
I'm probably at 35k because I haven't done Urgoz or The Deep yet. I can still live with 35k and 20k for faction caps. Better than 10k!--User Master Fast sig-icon.pngShinigami King 01:20, 14 November 2008 (UTC)

pve title rebalance was good, but i was expecting a massive skill rebalance from the talks of the devs. QQ 98.199.243.39 00:39, 14 November 2008 (UTC)

Me too. Very disappointed. --69.69.163.44 00:54, 14 November 2008 (UTC)
I don't know why you expected a skill rebalance. It's been stated over and over that today's update was the title rebalance. --Wyn's Talk page Wyn 01:06, 14 November 2008 (UTC)
Mainly because the last three skill balance updates where just an attempt to fix a single overpowered build withous any future rebalancing. While this is a great update, I and many other people are a bit dissapointed. Especially if you play alot of PvP and see how much is still broken. SniperFoxUser SniperFox IconSmall.gif 11:07, 14 November 2008 (UTC)
Personally, I'm disappointed in terms of skill updates, since there weren't really any (other than some description changes), except those that came last week. However, I do think this was still a really great update and even though it doesn't change PvP I'm still happy (PvE needs a bit more attention IMO) and provided they can get a decent balance update out before too long, I'll stay happy (I can see that if they don't do that PvP-focussed players will probably get pretty annoyed though).
Agreed. I appreciate the 11/13 update, but what good is it if there are hardly any good skills to finish the game with (again)?

Inventory space lacking?[edit]

Im gonne suggest this soon, but id have imagined wed get some space to put all these books...

Im already low for space as it is for all my armors, weapons, collectables, minies, amd tools. Otherwise i love being rewarded for helping my noobie friends :) (Ixillius 01:01, 14 November 2008 (UTC))

That was my thought as reading about new books, summoning stones, etc...where am I supposed to put them. Oh well. -- Inspired to ____ 01:05, 14 November 2008 (UTC)
The subject of additional inventory has been brought up many times, but is very, very difficult to impletment, so I wouldn't hold your breath. --Wyn's Talk page Wyn 01:03, 14 November 2008 (UTC)
If they could maybe they could do a think like Material Storage, except (here's the hard part) make it per character, not account wide, purely for consumables, scrolls, and books. It would be kinda hard to implement but the players would thank ANet for it. Right now consumables, books, and scrolls must take up at least 25% of my storage and inventory space. --User Master Fast sig-icon.pngShinigami King 01:14, 14 November 2008 (UTC)
Books alone take up an entire bag now.
Well maybe they could do something like the materials for perhaps armor maybe, or even dyes. Those are a major problem and headache :S
Simply giving you something like a dye tab in the storage box (like the crafting materials one) would at least free up more space so you can shift stuff from your chars to the box, though it is kinda adressing the symptom rather than the cause. Finding some way of stopping us from having half our packs taken up by books, summoning stones and other stuff would really help.

Kurzick HFFF[edit]

So i heardz u like hfff nerf?--User Xxx Corn Xxx sig.pngXxx Corn Xxx 01:01, 14 November 2008 (UTC)

Or do one of the many million other new methods of gaining Kurzick faction :P --Goteki-45 01:25, 14 November 2008 (UTC)
This is also an acceptable way to make faction. I'm already FAWing 50% more just because they increased rewards there! Even if I lose I get at least 1,000 faction, maybe slightly less, but that's better than ABing! --User Master Fast sig-icon.pngShinigami King 01:52, 14 November 2008 (UTC)

Need Screenshots![edit]

First of all, Im happy! AB for me! Im capping at 37k. Im getting reports of people capping from 700k-900k. Does anyone have screenshots?!!!.--ShadowFog 01:24, 14 November 2008 (UTC)

Are you retarded? --Jesus
I don't really think a 700k cap is possible, not even the Balthazar faction goes that high. There need to be limits. --User Master Fast sig-icon.pngShinigami King 01:54, 14 November 2008 (UTC)
I don't see it being possible. The cap increases are only applied once per account from what I've seen. --Valshia 02:16, 14 November 2008 (UTC)
Yup once per account. Thus it doesnt matter if you have 1 charecter or 100. If you've done each faction raising thing once. It will raise to same limit. Which from my workings out is capped at 80,000 max for each. -- Salome User salome sig2.png 03:09, 14 November 2008 (UTC)
I wonder if an 80.000 cap might not allow for Faction donation spikes, temporarily pushing your Alliance's Faction through the roof... Sanctus 03:28, 14 November 2008 (UTC)
I come up with a 70k ceiling, much nicer but without HFFF in some ways slower to fill. 98.219.48.111 04:47, 14 November 2008 (UTC)
The people will find ways to HFFF again and you know it, then they'll just do another nerf. I personally like the new limits. I can wait much longer between donations. And I don't have to worry about maxing out my Kurz faction during an AB like last weekend when I got almost a full AB's worth of faction less because I was at 9,000 faction. Currently at 45k. Just gotta win a JQ match to get to 50k. Life is good now. --User Master Fast sig-icon.pngShinigami King 05:09, 14 November 2008 (UTC)
Getting faction more easily for other things is better than having some way of getting loads which doesn't actually involve playing the game as per say, IMO. I'd much rather we got more for doing quests, competetive missions, alliance battles et.c. rather than having to FFF it to get a big amount.

Consumables[edit]

MORE consumables? There were already too many consumables. They desperately need to be REMOVED, not added!!! --71.253.40.5 02:16, 14 November 2008 (UTC)

Summoning stones are different. They are not IMBA party-wide superchargers, especially since only one can be active in an instance at a time. Arshay Duskbrow 02:29, 14 November 2008 (UTC)

Um... where did anyone actually use a significant amount of logic there, let alone bad logic?
They could have at least added crafted fireworks and the such. *sighs* More craftable creatures... now we have summons and craftable guys ... Is this a heads up for Guild Wars 2? Is this going to be a standard there? Because, I personally think it sucks. Just put in a crafter for party items already, not even more out of party allies. --118.93.226.179 06:28, 15 November 2008 (UTC)
"Is this a heads up for Guild Wars 2?" No shut the fuck up, what makes you think GW 2 is going to be anything like GW 1? How far up your ass did you pull this out of? "Craftable minions oh great, GW 2 is gonna suck" holy shit.

Hard Mode[edit]

What's the deal with this hard-mode only book? Isn't there ALREADY enough hard-mode only stuff? I _hate_ hard mode. I cannot fathom the thought that they're adding things to the game I can never experience. --71.253.40.5 02:17, 14 November 2008 (UTC)

It's the introduction missions, which are EASY on normal mode (because they expect you to be low level at the time). I don't do much on hard mode either, but the tutorial missions I can usually handle. -- Lord Ehzed 02:19, 14 November 2008 (UTC)
By "tutorial missions", are you referring to the first missions of each game? Because parts of Ascalon can be tricky in Hard Mode. Sanctus 02:24, 14 November 2008 (UTC)
Sorry, I spoke quickly. I've not done all of them on hard mode, so I really can't speak from experience. But they are too easy to merit extra rewards on normal mode. -- Lord Ehzed 02:36, 14 November 2008 (UTC) (Edited to complete my thought.)
Four-man missions in hard mode is tough... -Kumdori132.160.43.101 22:12, 14 November 2008 (UTC)
The junior hero books would have to give out small rewards for normal mode because Normal mode is ridiculously easy(there is only one "difficult" mission: Zen Daijun but for the rest you're fighting enemies that don't go far above level 10, you'd probably get 200 gold as a reward for all of the missions on normal mode. It makes sense for it to be only hard mode because that way the missions are challenging enough to warrant a good reward for completing them(and still most of them are easy considering you don't need to complete the bonuses for the book).

Book Tab[edit]

OKay Guys Love the update, But People are already complaining about not enough Space, And you add the need to cary books? We should have a book Tab on our Characters, Maybe a book satchel. Something. Half my inventory is books now. Mox, Gwen, now another 7 For the rest of the campaigns.

I agree with this petition. But again all u have to do is get one book at the time.--24.26.11.77 02:30, 14 November 2008 (UTC)
We do the missions when we feel like doing the missions, eventually you will have all the books in ur inv. I will not be forced into completing a mission just because some darn book tells me to take it with me or not get some extra cash. (Ixillius)
A Book Satchel would be excellent to have on your character, where it will only hold "Books" ^_^ MystiLefemEle 06:32, 14 November 2008 (UTC)
Agreed. The books are taking up valuable space. -- ab.er.rant User Ab.er.rant Sig.png 07:25, 14 November 2008 (UTC)
I made make the suggestion of adding some kind of belt, backpack or bag with 10 slots (or a slot for each book in the game (17 including the Bonus Mission books)) that only is able to hold books (but only one of the same kind, NM and HM books are a different kind, so for example you would be able to have a "Master Dungeon Guide" and a "Master Dungeon Guide Hard Mode" but not 2 normal "Master Dungeon Guide's") on Linsey Murdock's talk page.
And the other half of my inventory is armor. Why not give Zhed saddlebags? User Sarifael Sig.jpgSarifael 15:01, 14 November 2008 (UTC)

Hmm 10 k in less than theoretical 40 minutes is definetly buggy...
Don't worry about it. I thought about how great it would be to catch the bug before I updated and farm, but dismissed it seeing as how Anet would most likely ban anyone who tried it for Bug Exploitation, especially here where valuable Balth faction could be earned unfairly. I'd much rather gain the faction as I always have, rather than not gain at all because i'm perma-banned. 65.40.196.108 15:38, 17 November 2008 (UTC)

"Kurzicks going D-Fense"? Hello, that is what Fort Aspenwood is all about! D-Fen-Ding the Fort! I've had great teams of Kurzics, but also greater teams of Luxons in this mission, and although a lot of times we Kurzicks win, Luxons can pack a very serious punch. talk Large 05:27, 14 November 2008 (UTC)
By defense I meant defense=defenseway/blockweb=very unfun mechanics, especially in arena like this, where it's hard for the offensive team to coordinate (sans syncing [since the team needs to be semi-balanced]) while the Kurzicks only have to worry about defense. Luxons are Kill stuff, but don't die, since dying postpones killing stuff while Kurzicks are Don't die. Naturally, there is an unbalance with this scenario, and then skills get thrown into the mix. Crap, with the time reduction, there isn't any point in worrying about running ambers. --TalkRiddle 05:50, 14 November 2008 (UTC)

Lack of favour[edit]

So this update is meant to bring the favour of gods back, since the world seems to have been losing it soooo fast. The impact on economy will be fun to watch. I wish there were people taking economics lessons from this.Farlong 03:29, 14 November 2008 (UTC)

This update wasn't for favor, but for the titles themselves. No one wants to spend hours and hours HFFFing when they can be doing something more fun. All they did was open up more options to do things.~Falcon98.207.134.24 04:19, 14 November 2008 (UTC)

Account-wide Titles[edit]

We now have Treasure Hunter and Wisdom titles that have gone account-wide. Now can we get the other non-story-related titles-- the Party Animal, Incorrigble Ale Hound, Conisseur of Confectionaries-- turned into account-wide titles as well...?

And when are we finally going to see the Hall of Monuments made account-wide? --Trailsong 03:48, 14 November 2008 (UTC)

There's no timeline on the Hall update. As for other titles, I believe Linsey said there are no plans to make any other titles account wide.--Pyron Sy 03:55, 14 November 2008 (UTC)

Amber Chunks/Jadeite Shards and new books[edit]

Killing off HFFF is fair enough (it does stop people going for Survivor thou, and I will be losing money cos of this :X) but nerfing Amber/Jade to cost 5000 faction? With my kurz title, I donate most of it to alliance, but with luxon, I was intended in getting it all donated for jade so I can sell them all and get at least 1000k.

Also with the new storybooks, I have done all missions normal and hard mode before these were introduced, but there's no option to buy pages. This needs to be fixed. Robert Batchelor 04:17, 14 November 2008 (UTC)

1)Faction is so easy earn now an extra 2k barely means anything at all. Get over it.
2)Can you imagine how many people would instantly get large amounts of money simply because they did something across all of their 12 chars? It would be hurt the economy. Additionally, it isn't broken so there's nothing to fix.~Falcon98.207.134.24 04:23, 14 November 2008 (UTC)
Selling 10,000 jadeite shards will NOT hurt the economy. I merch all the jadeite and get 1000k. What do I do with that money? Invest in new armour, and buy locks, alcohol and ectos from other players. That is part of the economy. Robert Batchelor 12:34, 14 November 2008 (UTC)

It WILL hurt economy..the amount of gold that's in circulation would increase dramatically (I guess something like a factor 100!!)..result: serious inflation (this) - (Rezu Blackheart 13:07, 14 November 2008 (UTC))

Bah, I don't know why I even bother starting this topic in the first place, if all I get is attacks from other people. Robert Batchelor 16:12, 14 November 2008 (UTC)
Uh, the Passage Scrolls are worth the exact same amount as the materials were. Where's the problem? 66.190.15.232 22:34, 14 November 2008 (UTC)
The problem is, a single passage scroll takes up a place in your inventory. You also can't place hundreds of them in storage (amber and jadeite shards have quite large stack sizes and can be placed into the materials storage). That is why its a problem.Crimmastermind 01:43, 15 November 2008 (UTC)

Very Appreciated, But a Mere Distraction[edit]

This update was very much appreciated, and it shows ANet is doing wonderful things and still cares about its player base. However, I feel this update won't, in the long run, help. As it stands, most players in Guild Wars have either left for greener pastures, or are staying to get higher title ranks for GW2. The title rank is about all that's keeping people here. And now by expediating the process with multiple titles, people are only going to reach their goals sooner, then move on. I do so hope GW2 is coming along soon if more updates like this are coming up. Otherwise, soon there will be almost nothing left to do in GW.

It may seem like a backhanded compliment, and for that I apologize. I sometimes just wonder what ANet is up to with some of the decisions they make, and how long term they plan.

Arena Net does not need players to be constantly playing GW. We are not paying a monthly fee - someone who plays GW only once in a while is giving Arena Net as much money as someone who plays every day. The result is that ANet doesn't have to worry about time sinks, but rather about improving the game, which is what we see in this update.
GW2 also does not need players to be in GW1 every day until the sequel released. Just take a look at Diablo 3 or StarCraft 2 - both are sequels to games released years ago and haven't had new content added for quite some time, and yet plenty of people are interested in one or both of them, despite how many of those individuals have not been playing both games every day over the last few years. Erasculio 05:18, 14 November 2008 (UTC)
People are still interested in StarCraft because it's well balanced and everything is viable. The largest problem with Build Wars is that at least 80% of skills are inviable.
Can't really compare Guild Wars to stand-alone games like Starcraft. You can do so much more with stand alone games where things such as Guild Wars are purely limited to the developers. Also, games like Starcraft are iconic games, Guild Wars is not.
Bottomline, Arenanet wants to keep people interesting, Guild Wars is all Arenanet has, if people aren't impressed when Guild Wars 2 comes out it could end up doing serious damage to Arenanet.--118.92.131.35 11:39, 16 November 2008 (UTC)
Being "iconic" is just a subjective definition for a game that people simply remember. And that's the point - no one needs to play Guild Wars every day in order to buy Guild Wars 2. Just like no one plays StarCraft 1 every day today (with or without mods), no one plays Diablo 2 every day today, no one watches a movie every day while waiting for the sequel, no one reads a book every day while waiting for its continuation, and so on. Someone who played through Guild Wars, did everything he wanted to do and left the game with an impression good enough to check GW2 when it's released is all Arena Net needs regarding GW1. This isn't a classic MMORPG like WoW, that tries to be less a game and more a lifestyle. Erasculio 11:51, 16 November 2008 (UTC)

Unwaking Waters faction point reward question[edit]

The update notes state: "Unwaking Waters now gives 1000 Luxon or Kurzick faction for each level of completion depending on which side was entered from.", my question is this: What if my character has done this mission in the past starting from both sides? Ie, say the char completed it from Unwaking Waters (Kurzick), and then later while helping a friend, started / completed from Unwaking Waters (Luxon), would I:

  1. Get 1k-3k Luxon -AND- Kurzick faction points per level completed (so 3k each if have Masters)
  2. Get only the 1k-3k Kurzick faction points per level completed, since did that first
  3. Get only the 1k-3k Luxon faction points per level completed, since did that the most recently

-05:56, 14 November 2008 (UTC)

Hmm, this question can also apply to the cap increases for this mission (7k per each side completed?, or just whichever completed first / most recently?). --06:31, 14 November 2008 (UTC)
I got both Kurz an and Lux, of course you can only turn in one, but my cap increased for both sides. --Wyn's Talk page Wyn 11:26, 14 November 2008 (UTC)

5 minutes[edit]

Usually I am not one to complain about the updates since most of them are good... however, 5 minutes? It is almost impossible to Luxons to win in fort aspenwood.... --Shadowphoenix Happy Halloween 06:06, 14 November 2008 (UTC)

Agreed. I don't think they considered that they need to find a way to get more games going at one time. Secksy 06:22, 14 November 2008 (UTC)
As someone who's played probably well over 150 Aspenwood matches, on both sides, this is a bad change. The mission is already heavily Kurzick-skewed, and this has made it much more so. It's already hard to get matches these days due to lack of Luxon players willing to put themselves through the ordeal. If this change is left as is, this may end up killing Aspenwood as an active arena. It should be removed, and the devs should give thought to balancing the mission more fairly toward the Luxon side. (And before I'm accused of Luxon partisanship, the fact is I prefer to play Kurzick side. I just despise waiting 15-20 minutes for a match, and one which is now 5 minutes shorter of content!) Arshay Duskbrow 06:59, 14 November 2008 (UTC)
Or they could keep the current timer and adjust the NPCs to even out the sides. -- User Gordon Ecker sig.png Gordon Ecker (talk) 10:53, 14 November 2008 (UTC)
That's possible, but as I said at the end, there is also a "Wait Time vs. Play Time" issue here. We now get 5 minutes less of actual play in between waiting periods. Even apart from how unfair it is to the Luxon side, that's a reduction of content against time investment.
I think it would be a safe statement to say that most people who play Aspenwood regularly play it primarily for fun, with faction as a bonus. I'm sure the quicker match turnover was intended to speed up faction earning for the mission (though again, that only speeds up Kurzick faction winnings, while giving Luxons less time to win theirs), and while that's a worthwhile goal, to someone like me, it just feels like I get the same amount of waiting for even less playing. Perhaps the original timing could be reinstated, and faction rewards increased accordingly to maintain the same time-spent-to-faction-earned ratio. Arshay Duskbrow 11:30, 14 November 2008 (UTC)
I'm thinking somewhere along the lines of what Gordon is thinking. How long would it take God's Vengeance to Charge w/o amber? About 15 minutes or so? Now that the length has been reduced to 10 minutes, alter the speed in the movement and functions (attack activation and recharge) of the turtles by 33% (or whatever scale percentage if the 15 mins -> 10 mins is off). ANet could see how well that works out and make any future adjustments as needed. --TalkRiddle 12:47, 14 November 2008 (UTC)

You people really underestimate the stupidity of the Kurzick players. lol User Sarifael Sig.jpgSarifael 15:09, 14 November 2008 (UTC)

Luxon's still win easily on this map...I will tell you though I have never understood the juvenile nature of this artificial conflict between Kurzick and Luxon players. If everyone could put away the whole my pirate is better than your emo bs and roll the map everyone would win. 98.219.48.111 16:13, 14 November 2008 (UTC)
/agreed
I played 5, count them, 5 Arborstone matches last night. We did not win a single one of the matches because of the time being reduced. We would get into the inner area and as we are just about to win time would run out.... This needs to be a bit more balanced imo. With that said, the rest of the update is just amazing! :D --Shadowphoenix Happy Halloween 18:13, 14 November 2008 (UTC)
Now its just not balanced at all. Now a crap Luxon team will lose every game to a kurzick team comprised of 4 leechers, 1 healer and 2 noobs. When a team cannot beat a team of half their number, even though the other team has 2 good players, then the game isn't balanced. Now it would take a great and highly coordinated luxon team to beat an average kurzick team. Obviously there are kurzicks who suck, but there are also luxons. When all the luxons realize what imbalance there is, FA will die, because when you have high wait times (a problem they haven't solved, just pretended to fix) and low rewards for lots of effort, there is really no way anyone would do this. Heck, Jade Quarry will probably become more popular than FA now.Crimmastermind 01:30, 15 November 2008 (UTC)
I have to agree with this thread. It was way too easy for the Kurzicks to just load up on monks and stall this mission. Now, it's even easier for them. I do like that the missions are shorter, and that we can get a lot more faction--even for a loss--but the Kurzick still get more for winning. Take into account as well that too that many times, the Luxon cannot open the green gate and get that final 300 faction. I have several suggestions to help bring this mission back into balance. These are not meant to be a single package: pick and choose among them to find a balanced set up. 1) Reduce the number of NPCs at the gates so that no gate has more than two, some should even have only one. 2) Add Luxon Priests to the mines. 3) Add an environmental Debuff for the Kurzicks when they enter that reduces the power of healing spells by a set percentage. 4) Leave the 10 minute timer, but make it so that it's not tied to finishing Gods' Vengeance. Gods' Vengeance does not have an automatic advancement. The game can be ended early by killing Gunther or by collecting enough amber to complete Gods' Vengeance. If the timer expires, no one "wins", and each team only collects the faction they earned from knocking down gates/collecting amber. 5) Gates cannot be closed by collecting amber. If you don't like some of my ideas, IDC, but if you do like any of them, please let ANet know here. Garrick 00:27, 16 November 2008 (UTC)
Fort Aspenwood has lost its 'fun value' recently. I can live with the 5 minutes less that we have, sometimes the situation/team is so hopeless, you just want the match to be over asap so you can go in again for a new match. BUT. The past few times that I've joined a match, immediately 1-2 people on the team left. Why? Because they're Kurzicks. Just joining the match from our side so the matches get started, then handicapping the team so badly that there are no chances at a luxon victory anymore, especially with the other team having at least 3 healers. How to fix? Tone down kurzick rewards. Kurzicks have the easier job, AND get the higher reward. It's not hard to patch this up. 157.193.10.12 21:00, 16 November 2008 (UTC)

oh QQ. you realise that kurzicks have the same crap with leaching that luxons have right? so many times kurzicks get a retarded luxon that keeps opening the gate. thats not fair is it? no its handicapping, so get over it. and just because its now easier for kurzicks to win doesnt mean its broken, just because luxons got a nerf doesnt mean its broken. luxons did win the huge majority of matches before this patch. 64.149.24.114 15:40, 17 November 2008 (UTC)

Worst Update Ever[edit]

Actually not the worst ever if you are newer to the game. I feel as though this update has alienated some of the players that have been around for along time and focused more on the players that have not been through everything yet. By making us replay the missions over and over and over and to vanquish the same areas that we have already done just proves to me that they don't care about the people that have already done this crap before. Critize all you want as I forgot to make an account to log on with. I honestly hoped after I saw this update that everyone that worked on it got in a horrible car crash on there way home. I know I am only 1 person out of 3 millions plus that play this game, or use to, but after this update I have decided to stop playing this game cause I have done everything that I have wanted to do. The only reason I was still playing was to max some titles and since it will take longer (and yes I have done the math) there is no point in playing anymore. I wish everyone the best of luck with Grind Wars.155.9.11.2 15:44, 14 November 2008 (UTC)

The rewards for completing the books are not that big of a deal for veteran players, since it's mostly xp and gold. I personally repeat enough of this stuff just helping friends/guildies that I personally think it's cool to actually get something for doing them again. I'm also not sure which titles this update will make longer to max, quite the opposite actually as faction is much easier to get, Sunspear and Lightbringer have more reward options, and with Wisdom and Treasure hunter account based, you can work on it across all your characters rather than just focusing on one. I guess you'd need to explain in more detail which titles you are talking about and which math system you are using. --Wyn's Talk page Wyn 15:51, 14 November 2008 (UTC)
The Kurzick title is what I am talking about. I have done the math on the amount of time it will take me to max this title by doing say vanquishing areas. What I did was take the the amount of enemy (average) times the amount of factions you get per kill and you get that total, now you take the average amount of enemy times 50 and you get that total now add them together. Oh forget this I will show you what I did... For example you Vanquish Ferndale you get an average of about 18000 factions for vanquishing this and it takes about an hour. So you get 36000 factions towards the title correct? I could HFFF and get 20000 for a total of 40000 in the same amount of time so that is 4000 factions less for every hour that I am "grinding". And that is alot over time. Now I am not trying to be, even though it sounds like I am, one of those HFFF cry babies and I can really care less about having to kill the mobs now. My problem is that in the same amount of time that I could have done HFFF I get less factions now and I thought the point of this "title balance" was to help out with the "grinding" titles. So if they are going to make it longer to get then I think they should have reduced the amount needed to max it to something like 7-8 million. Just my opinion.155.9.11.2 16:08, 14 November 2008 (UTC)
I agree with you about the time investment, but I am SO glad that you can get max faster by doing a variety of things instead of HFFF all day everyday. User Sarifael Sig.jpgSarifael 16:12, 14 November 2008 (UTC)
I agree with you on the fact that you can get it other ways. But by doing this update now and not giving credit for everything that players have already done (i.e Vanquishing) they seem to have forgotten about the veterans. I would have rather seen them leave the HFFF the same EXCEPT have the quest give no gold what so ever. I think this would have helped with the bots a great deal.Sarge 16:16, 14 November 2008 (UTC)
I love this update, because while I want to max my Kurzick title, I don't think I could HFFF for even an hour, it's too boring. I do like to vanquish areas though. So in my case, 36000 faction points is a lot more than 0.--24.77.214.63 16:22, 14 November 2008 (UTC)
I agree that if you are relying on Vanquishing alone to max a faction title it would be horrendously long and tedious. I would suggest you use all of the various ways that have been provided, AB (the faction rewards for AB are doubled) do the quests that now offer rewards, fill a book or two helping friends/guildies with missions. Since HFFF is no longer available, which in my opinion is a very good thing, I'm not a big one for doing it cheap and easy, and it gave the Kurzick side a very unfair advantage in raising title levels, you now actually have to PLAY the game... duh. --Wyn's Talk page Wyn 16:38, 14 November 2008 (UTC)
DUH...I have PLAYED the game and I have done everything within the game numerous times but I am not being rewarded for the stuff that I have already done. I can care less about the HFFF thing (and to be honest the Luxons have one too so not unfair on the Kurzick side). But overall I think they know the messed up on factions and now they are trying to FORCE people to play this chapter of the game which by far, in my opinion, is the worst of them all. Honestly wish this title (Luxon/Kurzick) where never introduced. As far as doing AB I have done TONS of AB matches on both sides, the main reason I don't anymore is because of some of the people (and I use that term lightly) that AB. For example before every match I say "GL and HF" or something like this, what do I get back "Why would you wish the enemy GL?", I reply "Because I am trying to be nice", and then I get something like this, "Yeah nice and retarded". I know, I know turn local chat off, but I should not have to put up with people like that. Anyway it does not matter what gets said here we just all have to agree to disagree. Some people like the update some don't, I just made the choice to voice my opinion, maybe that was a mistake but oh well to late now.Sarge 17:12, 14 November 2008 (UTC)
I've been playing for 3 years, and I don't see what the problem is. You are mad becasue if you vanquished before you have to do it again? You could also just AB FA or HFFF. (it is still perfectly viable) Kypp Duron 18:37, 14 November 2008 (UTC)

Unless you can show me hard proof that you're the person within ArenaNet responsible for these updates, then you have no fucking right whatsoever to make such asinine comments. However I can guarantee you're not holding a job like the people you're wishing death onto, which means you don't know a single stain of shit. They're putting several sleepless nights and too much overtime into maintaining a game that you're not even paying for anymore, only to see every step they take shoveled out from beneath them; EVERY step, EVERY time, because humanity can't collectively be satisfied and people like you will always have a problem, and will always be ludicrous enough to voice it in such a filthy manner. So unless you want everyone to wish for your own death because you made their Big Mac a bit sloppy, you'd best shut your mouth. --The preceding unsigned comment was added by User:68.193.113.198 (talk).

Similar scenario: Beeing an active player and huge fan, I bought every game retail on launch, Factions and Nightfall as CEs, and therefore I don't get the Bonus Mission Pack. ANet treats their veteran player base rather poorly in my opinion. Sanctus 17:57, 14 November 2008 (UTC)
The stipulations to get the BMP were let known before EotN was released, and buying EotN in the in-game store was enough to get the BMP. Your example doesn't quite work.--Goteki-45 18:36, 14 November 2008 (UTC)
I like buying retail, to get physical material with the deal... I guess that is grounds for being punished, though. Sanctus 20:42, 14 November 2008 (UTC)
You can buy the bonus mission pack in the on line store now. You also got the BMP if you bought 3 extra Character slots.

Then you take the cash form your allowance, job, or otherwise, go to your local Walgreens (if you're in the USA), and buy a pre-paid Visa/MC/AmEx card for $30 or $50, and use it in the online store. My new, REAL view[edit]

I liked this update. Notice the liked bit. This update isn't pve. It's 77% PVP! Luxon/Kurzick= 47% of the update. Luxon/Kurzick is the most horrible thing they could've done. MORE CONSUMABLES? Real PVE people are missing the old days, when PVP and PVE were nearly the same, and fun! Now it's just about how many consumables you dump and how fast you shitway a team out. For Aspenwood? IDK! Forst Aspenwood was fun. Now it's not. I may consider quitting GW now. Anet can't even handle their own games. --'DAVAUser Smurf .png 05:46, 17 November 2008 (UTC)

You bought the whole product. At least try out Alliance Battles if you haven't, go with PUGs(I dont recommended,) or with guildies. Some people will differ about if the update is PvP or not since the fist indication is no skill balance. I think the update targets Guilds(especially those dedicated to AB), to have a simple time collecting factions and another way instead of doing the same PvP stuff. Most guilds dedicated to Alliance Battle have the max members(100), so it's easy to find a guild that plays a lot in AB.--ShadowFog 15:29, 17 November 2008 (UTC)
Auron: Wow, Wiki has a good sysop ;( -- Shadowfog, your points make some good sense. I understand what your saying, but Lyndsey said it would be 100% PVE. But yes, I have done AB, don't really like it, but ok. Thanks for your response ;)--'DAVA 16:56, 17 November 2008 (UTC)
I'd be more concerned about a potential nerf to Amatz since its wildly out of scale with the others right now for rewards (~10k in 15mins, no joke). Lets say for laughs you wanted to max faction with books, it would take you just shy of 84 completed Shiro's Return HM to get r12 in it start to finish. If they wanted to encourage people to work on this insane title drop it in line with existing allegiance tracks OR de-link some sections of it to stop donate spikes (force auto-donate to your title not alliance/guild). That way the pseudo-PvP side can accomodate holding alliances and everything else can work directly towards title benefits. Everyone wins. 98.219.48.111 17:17, 17 November 2008 (UTC)

The people who already got this title the hard way lose, since they get no retroactive compensation. Then again, they knew it was coming to them, since ANet always caves to intelligent criticism like this. So who cares about them? :S Vili User talk:Vili 10:53, 10 December 2008 (UTC)

SS/LB points for missions[edit]

Hi, call me dense, but are the points awarded for each level of completion repeatable, that is, if I go do a given mission several times (help guild / alliance / fun / farm etc). Do I get the points every time I complete the mission, or is it a 1-time reward, much like the exp/skill points/gold? --BramStoker (talk, contribs) 17:35, 19 November 2008 (UTC)

You only get the points the first time you do a mission with any particular character. If multiple characters do the mission, you'll get the reward multiple times, but that's the only way to get multiple points. That much hasn't changed. --Trailsong, Bard, Rogue, and Part Time Legend 07:55 20 November 2008 (UTC)

What if I vanquished luxon/kurzick areas BEFORE the update?[edit]

Will I get the 5x the monster amount of luxon/kurzick faction if I vanquished the proper areas before this great update? --Monolito 10:18, 10 December 2008 (UTC)

No. That would mess up the economy. Vili User talk:Vili 10:38, 10 December 2008 (UTC)
How exactly would gaining retro factions mess up the economy? He did not ask for the "retro" gold only the factions. But to answer your question, no you will not get the factions. Apparently the veteran player gets punished for playing this game over and over and over before the update.155.9.11.2 17:53, 16 December 2008 (UTC)
Why do people have to see this as a punishment? Vanquishing isn't all that difficult, and by simply helping guildies/friends, not that much of a stretch to imagine doing it again. --Wyn's Talk page Wyn 17:56, 16 December 2008 (UTC)
Because hard mode design is terrible. -User Auron csig.png Auron 17:59, 16 December 2008 (UTC)
Is there a reason why I can not see it as a punishment? It just feels like Anet did nothing for the people that have been loyal to this game and continue to play it, they seem to have focused on the newer players only. I would just like the retro factions, I mean that took alot of time to vanquish everything in this game and just because I did it before this update I don't get the reward. Just seems like a punishment.76.4.185.160 22:58, 16 December 2008 (UTC)
I was being ironic, because "it would break the economy" was ANet's justification for not letting people pay to have pages filled in for the new storybooks. Vili User talk:Vili 01:34, 17 December 2008 (UTC)
