The 2 Necro Heroes are you main "damage doers"

On the Bonder/Protector Monk disable the following skills (Shift Click)

Essence Bond, Life Bond, Protective Bond, Balthazar's Spirit, Rebirth

and manually put - Life Bond and Protective Bond on the 2 Necro hero's (note - You need to reapply the bonds when you enter a new area).

Leave Temple of Ages, into The Black Curtain then Talmark Wilderness towards Dakutu Village and into Majesty's Rest.

Straight foward run, the only problem that you might have is with the Inferno Imp's

Go through the swamp and work your way around until you come to the bridge by Rotscale - killing as you go. Near the bridge, kneeling at the tablet of the Statue of Balthazar will make a Champion of Balthazar arise, from whom you can get a blessing.

After you have cleared the bridge you need to prepare to kill Rotscale and his group.

On the Spiteful Spirit Necro disable:

Reckless Haste, Enfeebling Blood, Insidious Parasite, Barbs

leaving: Spiteful Spirit, Price of Failure, Signet of Lost Souls, Mantra of Resolve

On the Spoil Victor Necro disable:

Vampiric Swarm, Dark Pact, Unholy Feast, Blood of the Aggressor

leaving: Spoil Victor, Life Siphon, Signet of Lost Souls, Resurrection Signet

Flag your Henchies to near the start of the bridge.

Flag your Bonder/Protector Hero to about the middle of the bridge.

Flag the 2 Necro hero’s to the end of the bridge ( nearest end to the Rotscale group ).

Aggro one of the Rotscales group and retreat to near the middle of the bridge, they should follow and the 2 necro hero's should start attacking them, if not then "Target" the Necro's to one of the group and inch them forward until they initiate aggro.

Continue in this way until all of Rotscales group have been defeated - then move onto Rotscale using the same principle. (Note: once you are approximately halfway up the stairs there will spawn some phantoms at the statue of balthazar, you need to break aggro on Rotscales group and deal with these).

Once Rotscale has been defeated it is an easy area to Vanquish Master mendel 16:27, 10 July 2008 (UTC)

Thanks for the guide. — Eloc 23:56, 10 July 2008 (UTC)

Thx for your guide, it rly helped me. But since i am a P/W i had to ask a friend along with 2 hero healers (WoH monk)and a necro GB+blood ritual necro hero. And then we still had problems keeping the 2 SS SV alive. It was almost impossible to separate that last big Rotscale group. Only the damned clerics came all the way to the bridge. We managed to get rid of the smaller dragons between party wipes. So could u tel us which monk build u used for this Master Mendel? The problem with me was also the energy of the bonder, did u use energy essence bond too or baltazar bond? What worked for me as to use only the SV for most of rotscale's health and the last few bits i switched to the SS. It took longer but we still defeated and vanquished the area.--213.17.24.10 10:21, 22 August 2008 (UTC)Inhert Orbitalframe

WOOT! I couldn't believe how easy he was! Thank you, Thank you, Thank you!
I was dreading doing majesty's rest in HM. Saved it for my last area to vanquish. (WOOT! Tyrian Vanquisher DONE!) Memories of party wipes with old guildies sounded no fun!!!
Did some home work. Followed Master mendel's these suggestions with some changes because of guildies joining me. I was using a Ether Renewal fire nuker build (love it with mindbender!) Wife was fire nuker too. We had a mes and 2 monks. Worked like a charm. The hardest part was getting through the inferno imps!
It took a little bit to figure out where to put things and how to agro/pull. Once rotscale was on these necro's radar, WOW! I've never seen him go down that fast!!
SV FTW!
P.S. And BTW the bonder can / should use all bonds on both necros.

Didn't work for me at all. Never died on Rotscale so fast infact..--Kryzz 20:41, 6 March 2011 (UTC)
Best usage would be Life Bond, Essence bond, and Protective Bond on the necros, Balthazar's Spirit on the monk - remember that BS triggers when Life Bond redirects damage so it is cheaper to bond two necros with LB and the monk with BS, though you could bond the necros as well (I personally prefer to keep maintained bonds to 7-8). I've noticed the hero monk seems unable to use Mantra of Inscriptions or Scribe's Insight at all, so you will manually need to apply them, as well. A second human running another bonder would be optimal because PB energy loss is divided into the bonders - in fact, if you can maintain 8 bonds you could bond BS on your lead necro (the puller) and generally get a net gain. I would think 3 monks and two necros would be unstoppable (2 bonders and 1 party healer, though you may also need a BiPer for the party healer's e-management), even if you hit the whole mob at once. --Falseprophet 17:30, 6 April 2009 (UTC)

Also, it's worth considering using a conset. I know what the general view on consets is, I'm just stating it as another option. Because, well, we all know killing Rotscale in HM in order to become Tyrian Vanquisher is simply a fuss. --Adul 16:08, 8 October 2008 (UTC)

Hmmm dunno about this build i tried but still got the full force of rotscale wrath used a conset serveral powerstones still an epic phail.Cult Mephisto 13:42, 6 December 2008 (UTC)
You probably did something wrong - you should pull a group at a time with one of the necros using this build as described because the full mob will quickly burn the monk's energy (note that it may be hard to always pull a single mob). If you're still having problems, a second protter (preferably a human and ditch the henchies) splits the energy cost of Protective Bond, so you could make aggro'ing the entire mob possible since you don't lose energy this way (4 energy split between 2 casters and Balth + EB is 0 loss) - note that you still need a healer for the damage that gets through (and degen). --Falseprophet 17:30, 6 April 2009 (UTC)
Note that it is quite difficult to pull one group at a time unless you do the pulling. It should be possible to double bond, as I stated, but it really only works with two monks bonding.

I ended up running this on my ele with a guildie, which allowed me to tank indefinitely (just don't get close) and others to run up one at a time and cast - Pain Inverter can do all the work, but is very slow. 295 health, Air Magic 1+3, Earth Magic 12+3+1, Protection Prayers 10, Energy Storage 3+3, weapon with +20% enchant +5 energy, energy runes and insignias

If you run an Ele, this works to tank:

Obby Flesh is mostly only so Rottie can't life steal, though I did use it toward the end of the fire imps when my health dipped under 100 due to burning because I had to jog/walk them. Aura of Restoration may be a better option than Dismiss if E-Storage could get bumped to 8 (like running 9 prot prayers, but timing PS-Stoneflesh is much harder because you can't time PS by blinking - maybe with Mindbender or consumables). If I did it again, I'd set up 1-2 monks for Shield of Judgment smiting + maybe a Xinrae's Weapon N/Rt and not run SS and SV necros because Rotscale's mob appears to prefer casters (based on weapon). Balthazar's Spirit was pretty much only for the Rotscale mob, so the monk could take it for you freeing a skill slot for something else, especially if you're not the runner (or jogger/walker, in this case - useful for the imps if you have to get by them with this char). --Falseprophet 18:36, 8 April 2009 (UTC)

Thank You for the Ele build, Falseprophet!

I used it, but made a few adjustments, and took your suggestion of putting in Aura of Restoration. As an Ele with experience as a terra tank in the underworld, and well as experience as a 600 monk for SoO runs and such, I knew these were Undead, and therefore, would go down relitively fast, aside from Rotscale, ofcourse. The trick to it was paying attention to agro bubble, not pulling too many at once, watching energy and health, and after the rest of Rotscale's group is dead, constantly putting Pain Inverter on him, whenever possible.

To keep my heros/henchmen from getting into agro of the pop-up wraths and smoke phantoms, I flagged them near the entrence to Rotscale's area.

As for getting to Majesty's rest, this was the only time I used Stoneflesh Aura, so I could walk by the Inferno Imps, to the portal, without my heros/henchmen. I flagged them to the place where I killed an Oakenheart, just before risk of agro from the Inferno Imps. Took 0 dmg the whole way.

Note: Tahlkora and Dunkoro's build (besides Mending, Balth Spirit and maybe Life Bond) isnt completely needed, but simply nice to have around, to deal with damage and energy management. Also, I never needed any consumables.

Vanquish completion time: 44 minutes. (30 for Rotscale)

  • Update: Since Rotscale has become the Zaishen Bounty, I've tweaked my builds, and came up with a more sufficiant way to not only beat rotscale a slight faster, but also vanquish whole area faster, too. With these tweaked builds, there's more damage output, better healing for my heros, and all around a more efficiant way to go about killing Rotscale and vanquishing the area.

For an ele 600, I once again ran the build above, but like I said, I tweaked it a slight.

You can opt out Shielding Hands for Protective Spirit. Or, Another bond that I like to use when running Rotscale, and not vanquishing, is Watchful Spirit, because it gives an extra 2 health regen. This is helpful because of the poisonous ground in Rotscale's area, and to add to the healing. Also, I took the blessing from the Balthazar shrine in front of Rotscale's area for 50 gold, which adds another +3 health regen.

  • Ever since the Holloween event, when I took my necro out to farm grawls for their necklaces out of Surmia, and came up with a build that uses both spirits and minions, I've since then come up with a few simular builds that my necro hero can use, especially for these 4-person areas, when vanquishing, or doing missions in hard mode. This build on a necro hero is especially helpful on survivor characters, for just about anything .

  • I use this necro build pretty much everywhere, whenever I'm not running these spirits myself.

Vanquish time: 38 minutes (about 23 to 25 minutes for Rotscale) (Angel Serrenity 13:10, 5 October 2009 (UTC))

Different Vanquish Technique

Well, seeing as the character I am using to vanquish is not a monk, and nobody in the guild was on at 3 AM in the morning I figured I'd try something a little different. This build only requires 2 heroes (one technically since you pretty much need a prot hero anyways), and yourself.

On your prot hero you MUST have shield of absorption, and protective spirit. That's it, rest of the skill bar is up to you.

Then you run a smiter hero with the following.

Optional.jpg
optional
Optional.jpg
optional
Optional.jpg

Signet of Judgment.jpg

Retribution.jpg

Holy Wrath.jpg

Life Attunement.jpg

Vital Blessing.jpg

16 smite, 15 prot, though you could just go 12/12. Int the optional slots I brought purge signet, bane signet, and rebirth.

Maintain all 4 enchantments on yourself and fight to majesty's rest. (As a derv I could solo the inferno imps, so that made things much easier). Then just clear a path to rotscale, kill the 4 wraiths, and then put the smiter on the back edge of the bridge. Place everyone else near the middle. Then disable everything but SOA, and prot spirit on your prot hero. Aggro the skeletons ans let them kill themselves, keeping up prot spirit and SOA if needed. After this comes the hard part. Make sure everyone except the smiter is near the center of the bridge, while still within casting range of you. Put SOA and prot spirit on yourself and pull rotscales group. maintain SOA and prot spirit at all times. The clerics will often come down. Focus fire on them and they should eventually go down. (Note, retribution should be cast before Holy Wrath as then retribution will trigger their reversal of fortune letting holy wrath do more damage than was healed). Eventually the clerics will die. Then find a good spot and let the dragons pound on you. Rotscale and the one necrid horseman (who you don't need to aggro) should be all thats left. If you are a higher AL class you may be able to just find this spot and go afk, but if you are a caster, than you may need to stick around and maintain prot spirit on yourself, depending on whether you can get your hero to autocast it on you or not.

This is MUCH slower than the above method (As in rotscale takes almost 10 minutes to bring down). However, it works as well, and allows more flexibility in builds especially because it can easily be done with one healer henchman.

Cheers Kelvin Greyheart 18:42, 15 December 2008 (UTC)

Thank you, Thank you, Thank you! That realy helped me, woot. (Tyrian Vanquisher/Leg Vanquisher, DONE!) And for the record, the builds that are above this one, don't work now, the bonder can't manage the energy. ;)
It should be doable with the build above (which is post-nerf according to history - nerf in 2005, build in 2008), read my notes about bonding and pulling. Adding a second bonder like teams do in some AB teams and maybe arenas works well, too (e-loss is split). --Falseprophet 19:20, 6 April 2009 (UTC)
It should be noted that a 600 smite team can clear this area with very little effort. The exception being reed stalkers, which can generally be avoided. This is a trick for 600 smiting it without being a monk. Also The above version uses mantra of resolve, which is dated since incendiary arrows no longer interrupts. Kelvin Greyheart 15:16, 16 December 2008 (UTC)
Wraiths have Guilt in HM and Ghita Bonz has Concussion Shot, so it still has some use, but it isn't essential like it once was (I plan to use Spell Breaker when necro charges wraiths, and Ghita is a minor issue). --Falseprophet 19:20, 6 April 2009 (UTC)
Thanks, this helped a lot. :) 90.149.239.21 00:36, 12 January 2009 (UTC)
A minor note. I seem to have forgotten to mention this earlier, but try to avoid aggroing the necrid horseman. Generally you can aggro him without something dangerous happening, but sometimes you will trigger the pop up spawn of phantoms that will generally cause a party wipe. If you are tanking this with a very low AL set of armor (not really recommended unless a true 600 smite 2 man team since everything on the island does enough damage save rotscale (who does triple digits anyways) to kill themselves in seconds) you may be able to get essentially all of the spells cast on you instead of your team because the AI loves going after what it sees as very squishy targets. They may or may not attack you, and chain lightning can still cause a wipe, but there is a chance that you can survive this. A wipe is nothing serious for this build however so its not worth packing extra armor, but it is an option. Another note is that when aggroing the necrid horseman it is a good idea to have all NPCs but the prot hero off the bridge in case the phantoms do pop up. If they do, try to run the prot hero and yourself to the end of the bridge for a rebirth by your smiter. If its worth the effort that is, since by the time you are set up again you may as well wipe, res with full energy, and run back.
In summary, if you accidentally trigger the phantom popups, generally you can just save time by getting wiped. Kelvin Greyheart 04:13, 12 January 2009 (UTC)
Thanks a lot for this, I've finally vanquished the bastard. ^^ I have a couple of notes, though. First, 10 minutes is a gross underestimation; Rotscale took at least 35 minutes to go down for me. Maybe I was using too many protective skills? I had Faithful Intervention, Mystic Regen, Windwalker Runes and a birthday cake. I can't see why this would make him harder to kill, but it's the only thing I did differently from your walkthrough. I also felt like I was in extreme danger of failing and no way could I afford to go afk, but I might just be paranoid. Finally, the necrid horseman doesn't seem to be responsible for causing the phantom pops: I killed the horseman, then a few minutes later came within aggro range of where he'd been standing... and then the phantoms spawned. --Mme. User Mme. Donelle sig.jpgDonelle 00:13, 18 January 2009 (UTC)
35 minutes? Make sure you are out of casting range so that he only attacks you. That prevents healing from FoC, and time being wasted by him casting instead of attacking. The necrid horseman does not trigger the phantoms, however he will sometimes spawn far enough back that aggroing him will trigger them. Kelvin Greyheart 02:03, 18 January 2009 (UTC)
I figured as much about the horseman; your wording just implied that he spawned them directly. As for Rotscale... you didn't say you had to be out of casting range. I figured he'd try to cast his spells on you either way once you'd aggro'd, so I just ran up and stood with him on the edge of my aggro bubble. Ugh, I KNEW I was too stupid to do it right. >_< --Mme. User Mme. Donelle sig.jpgDonelle 02:36, 18 January 2009 (UTC)
I was forced to solo this as a primary warrior/secondary monk, because of the recent Zaishen quest bounty, and of course because I needed to vanquish the area. I maintained Retribution and Holy Wrath on myself, which left me needing only one hero monk as a prot/bonder (though I brought Alesia from ToA anyway, just in case). I used Lion's Comfort and Defy Pain in my own skillbar because I knew HW would leave me with 0 energy, and because I never trust healbots to do all the work. Well, I did kill Rotscale without any real trouble, and judging by the number of return hits he took, in HM he may have nearly twice the hp the wiki suggests (!)... however, I had to go ahead and kill the other dragons who hang out with him the normal way with axe and spell, because when their hp get too low from the returned holy damage they whip out with Troll Unguent, which heals them faster than smiting 12 can hurt them. Admittedly this may be simply because I had too much armor, since the returned damage is calculated from the actual damage dealt, but since I only used two slots on my own skillbar and one hero to set up the boss kill, it's not as if there was any trouble dealing with everyone else in the map. Note for the wise, micro Protective Spirit or whatever other damage mitigation you brought with you as you begin the pull of Rotscale and his group, or you will be spiked dead in about 2 seconds no matter how many hit points or how high armor you have. Flagging your team just shy of the bridge center should leave them out of range of Frozen Soil, so they can be commanded to Rebirth you if needed; and of course, as mentioned above, once you aggro Rotscale and his brood back away to about 1.2 or more from him--this puts you at a range where they can hit you with projectiles, but not with spells, and since the invertebrate-level AI is programmed to be happy shooting you instead of moving closer and killing you with spells, you win. Any closer, and fuhgeddaboudit.
I did the whole area with just myself and 2 monks as smiters with my 600 dervy. Was way easier and faster than a 600 monk and I pwned Rotscale in about 10 minutes (not the fastest but was easy enough), amazingly no spider pop-ups on that VQ just the undead and the trees. Nay the One and Only 08:20, 15 January 2010 (UTC)

NONE OF THIS WORKS ANYMORE AS OF JULY, 2009! the hero will not cast on you as needed, the clerics will strip all enchants on you, and thats it, your dead!

The clerics will strip all enchants on you?!How come when they don't have enchant removal...i tried the /mo tactic and it works with a lot of problems with the imps on the way...95.180.43.70 21:33, 4 August 2009 (UTC)

This was the one area I had left to vanquish with H/H only (I'd done it before, but with a guildmate, and he was doing all the heavy lifting). Using this build, I took down Rotscale and his group in about 20 minutes, and the rest of the area was a piece of cake. I did have to micro Tahlkora to cast Prot Spirit, so I couldn't quite go AFK, but it was still pretty simple. Kudos! -- Hong 09:52, 8 October 2009 (UTC)
