Bump. How is this a Monty Python reference? Is not like monty python asked this question for the first time in the history. He doesn't answer blue or yellow. No one is asking "Why?" in the movie. Same wording, same tone, utter lack of context if you haven't seen the movie (as Vael himself points out). Spawning requirements

Does anyone know the pre-requisites for getting him to spawn in the middle of Grothmar Wardowns and offer Be Very, Very Quiet? -- Gordon Ecker 04:21, 4 September 2007 (UTC)

linsey said that you had to do all quests from the Ebon vanguard and gwen(irc) and after that he woud spawn randomly to help you ~ Kurd 13:08, 4 September 2007 (UTC)

You just have to complete the Vanguard primary quest line - Linsey talk 00:08, 5 September 2007 (UTC)

There must still be a real bug here: I completed the primary vanguard quests, then went for the quests from captain. during that, he spawned in the wardowns, i could talk to him, but no quests were given. now i finished all the quests from the captain and he wont spawn again in the wardowns. he now only spawns in the uplands and the valley to help me fighting, but i can't talk to him, nor can i get anymore quests. --Ineluki 12:58, 15 September 2007 (UTC)

Which quest? Be Very, Very Quiet... is obtained from Vael in Grothmar Wardowns after completing Assault on the Stronghold and Single Ugly Grawl Seeks Same for Mindless Destruction in Ascalon is obtained from Vael in Sacnoth Valley after completing Forbidden Fruit. The other two quests, Forbidden Fruit and Plan A, are obtained from Captain Langmar in Grothmar Wardowns. -- Gordon Ecker 21:51, 22 May 2008 (UTC)

I have a clue for spawning requirements. If you are having trouble getting Vael to show and bring another player that has the "Plan A" quest active, the other player sees this message in their quest log for "Plan A": "Vael is not ready to undertake this covert mission. He is busy following a suspicious looking Charr. Help your party member discover what that Charr is up to, and then Vael will be ready to raid the Charr camp for plans." -- Atrina 00:00, 7 September 2011 (UTC)

Solved... I knew I had already heard Vael speak long ago, but never hunted him down afterwards. He was where the picture for the "Be Very, Very Quiet..." quest shows him. I was looking all around the eastern Charr camp, but he was in the middle left portion of the larger forest in Grothmar Wardowns. For me he never spawns in the second location... I guess i never get his skill because this stupid quest... Got all ebon quests/missions nm/hm done and he shows himself only on the first spot and remains there forever... --Calixos 23:09, 13 January 2012 (UTC)

Different experience altogether here. I'm sure I've found him at each of the red dots with other characters, but was just recently bringing up a new character and he wasn't at either of them. It wasn't until I was going to rezone and "accidentally" hit the 25 kill mark that the "Hero... I know you..." dialogue began. I ran back to the two red dots on the right but he wasn't there. On my way back to the dot on the left, picking up a bounty from a res shrine (north-west of the "Against the Charr" marker), he suddenly appeared almost right next to me and I was able to have the "first talk" with him. So maybe there's some other condition that isn't mentioned on the page, such as getting a certain number of kills or a number of Vanguard reputation points in the area...?--203.206.113.95 04:05, 4 June 2012 (UTC)

RE: Rabbit hole

How is this a tease for the rabbit hole? Almost every player is going to encounter the rabbits in Drakkar Lake before they get here. It's more like following the rabbits to meet Vael is some PR for making the bunnies seem all cute and innocent again. Yukiko 21:23, 18 October 2007 (UTC)

Why is this comment even on Vael's page? There is no tie in given for why this applies to Vael specifically. The only connection between Vael and the rabbit seems to be that both are in Grothmar Wardowns. I am removing the rabbit reference. 42 - talk 06:04, 26 November 2009 (UTC)

Captain Osric similarities

I think this guy may well be Osric from Prophicies...just so many similarities. A. This goes along with the theme of tying up loose ends with Prophicies (he disapears after yaks bend, right after Rurik's death), B. He has a quote saying he was the one telling the King that Rurik died, coinsiding with his disapearance. 3. He knows alot about you (though this might be because he has been on 3 continents) and 4. Whispers Agent???

I've always thought he might be an agent for the Order of Whispers. From the the GW2 lore, we know that the Order has spread to all three continents and that they were the only group aside from the dwarves to know about the elder dragons, and the way he's all secretive definitely tracks with the way the Master of Whispers acted during the Nightfall storyline. Huge shadowstep

So i was running a tour of eotn, when my runnee went up to talk to Vael, since he never did that before. I was running happily until Vael suddenly appeared in front of me. I was about at the other end of Gothmar Wardowns, near the portal to Dalada uplands. Does he ALWAYS shadowstep to the party leader even though he's out of earshot? Vael name

He's name can be used by the books of eragon, where Vrael was a Dragon Rider Wich got killed.

It's also the name of some dragon in a couple of dungeons in some mmo...

Vael the Liar.

Perhaps worth mentioning that he's a (chronic) liar. Best shown by his quote "I was one of the soldiers with Rurik when he was slain by the Stone Summit. In fact, I was the one to break the sad news to the king." He definitely wasn't there. At least, not as a soldier. Many of his other quotes seem quite unlikely, but may still be true. Though given this lie, I'm quite sceptical. Perhaps add a note 'Vael is quite the liar,' or something.115.64.200.42 14:25, 15 April 2012 (UTC)

Vael's Identity

Can't believe this theory hasn't been thrown around here yet, but my first thought was that this guy is actually Prince Rurik who didn't really die during the Prophecies campaign. I always thought the cutscene where he dies was a bit suspicious - the player just stands there and watches him fight and get killed from a distance without going to help him, and then doesn't check and confirm he's actually dead. Convenient for a guy who's got Daddy issues, a bone to pick with the Charr, and now wants to help people without revealing who he is... of course he's a bit older, but the face is essentially the same. He just picked up some assassin skills while learning to strike from the shadows instead of just being a brute warrior.--203.206.113.95 04:13, 4 June 2012 (UTC)
