User talk:Fall/Archive2007
Thank you Fall!
Hi there Fall. Thanks for putting in so much work, regarding images (and especially slapping all those tags on MY images XD). I'll try to get to the ones you didn't get to do, but thanks for showing me that I have to put those under in-game shots. Swordfish56 13:08, 13 September 2007 (UTC)
- Glad I have someone else on my side when it comes to tagging images now :) yet theres so much work to be done with images still, seems like i haven't even touched the surface Fall 13:15, 13 September 2007 (UTC)
Hi.
I Borrowed your "tab" and your character page idea... i hope that's ok with you! anyways... Thx Teo 06:15, 1 October 2007 (UTC)
- Thats cool glad you could use it, but credit goes to others who made the templates :) Fall 06:16, 1 October 2007 (UTC)
User image tag on Image:Any-faded-large.png
Hi Fall, I don't agree with the user image tag being placed on Image:Any-faded-large.png. It wasn't uploaded with the aim of being used in the user namespace, it is used as the background image of skill boxes in Category:Common skills. LordBiro 22:20, 5 October 2007 (UTC)
- Thats cool, ill keep that in mind on those images :) thanks for telling me Fall 22:23, 5 October 2007 (UTC)

- Yw :) I think I'm through about half of 3,500ish untagged images Fall 05:04, 8 October 2007 (UTC)
- I used to do that too, but it was never ending and I got sick of it. >_< - BeX 05:06, 8 October 2007 (UTC)
- Finally cleaned out Special:Uncategorizedimages completely, took several days hehe ill have to slowly go back through the user image section and tagged the ones that aren't properly names but my main goal was to get the category cleaned out so we could keep up with untagged images and hopefully keep it down so we don't get 3k+ again Fall 08:29, 8 October 2007 (UTC)
- Holy crap, that is quite an achievement! Well done. :) - BeX 08:47, 8 October 2007 (UTC)

Hi. Otherwise good job, but you've tagged many useful skill icon images for deletion due to their articles being missing so that nothing uses the images yet. Those images should not be deleted just because they aren't used yet as they will be used when their articles are created. I am now going through the tags to make sure that nothing useful is removed. -- (gem / talk) 09:33, 8 October 2007 (UTC)
- Hope I didn't tag to many of them, I thought they were dupes since they weren't in the not orphaned category. Fall 21:44, 8 October 2007 (UTC)

Hey I just got your email about the archive box. I haven't checked that email for a while because I was offline for two weeks while I moved house. Do you still want some help with it? - BeX 06:39, 23 October 2007 (UTC)
Image deletions
Hi Fall, you can tag image dupes with "orphaned image" (as they are mostly unused) instead of "dupe see (filename)". It maybe saves you some time ;) And thanks for helping with all those images! poke | talk 14:36, 9 October 2007 (UTC)
- thanks for the heads up on that, it will save time :) Fall 06:43, 10 October 2007 (UTC)
I love your Page
This is a great user page design. I like the curved corners and the colours and the types of things that you list. Very personal, and yet very interesting, too. Really nicely done -- kudos! -- Gaile 19:13, 16 October 2007 (UTC)

- Thanks Gaile that means a lot :) Fall 19:16, 16 October 2007 (UTC)
- Fall, do you use Firefox? I think Gaile does, too, because I'm on IE, and the corners are as straight as an arrow. moz-border-radius? EDIT: Just got on FF, and it does look great. I see why Gaile gave you Kudos. My page is horrible on FF, because of formatting :(. Calor - talk 02:03, 18 October 2007 (UTC)

Image deletions
Hey Fall, You've recently marked my images for deletion, could you possibly expand on whats wrong with them, I had a look on Guild Wars Wiki:Image use and I still don't know what wrong with them m8, your help is greatly appreciated. TomoTheMighty 00:55, 29 October 2007 (UTC)
- I believe you are referring to Image:Truth cape.jpg the proper naming of this would be Guild The Venerable Truth cape.jpg I tagged quite a few images this evening, if I tagged more and you need a explanation please let me know, hope this helps Fall 01:04, 29 October 2007 (UTC)
Tnx m8 I'll sort it now (well when i know how to :)) TomoTheMighty 01:10, 29 October 2007 (UTC)
hey Soz to bother u m8 but the image u refer to was supposed to be marked for deletion by me, my apologies for wasting ur time. Image:Guild The Venerable Truth cape.jpg here's the the image i use now it this one ok to use?.... also i use this image in 3 guild pages as they all have the same cape, is this acceptable or do i need to upload it 3 separate times? again thanks for the help m8. Hey Fall, you can also put a warning on IP's talk pages to stop vandalism. Once that has been done, and they still continue, we can block directly. To warn human vandals isn't something that only sysops can do, just FYI. -- (CoRrRan / talk) 23:25, 12 November 2007 (UTC)

Maps from GW.dat
Can you tag em with arenanet image please? Lyra Valo 20:33, 13 December 2007 (UTC)

- Ok, tagged a few anyway before you responded >.< Also map 6 is Amnoon Arena, map 7 is Fort Koga, map 8 is the The Crag and Map 9 is D'Alessio Arena all from RA. The bottom picture is 27 is the first part of The Deep duno about the top. I really need to revise for my exams and your maps are stopping me! :p Gonna have to stop checking. Pieces of maps
Some maps are in pieces such as Image:Map 36.png, however these can be edited and put together if we need a high quality map of the area, for example ones where the u-map wont show, post any maps that are needed that the u-map doesn't show. Fall 21:06, 13 December 2007 (UTC)
Hey Poke
Can you please rename the identified images and move them to User:Fall/Maps/identified, and could you also delete the old version that isn't properly named so I can upload more maps to those slots. Fall 23:50, 13 December 2007 (UTC)
Image size
Hi. I can see that these are higher quality than the existing but they're generally smaller images than them. Are there larger versions? --Aspectacle 21:40, 13 December 2007 (UTC)
- Theres close to 160,000 files in total, i'm just uploading them as I come across them so i'm not sure if they are bigger ones yet. Fall 21:43, 13 December 2007 (UTC)
- The minimap maps are always that small but highly zoomed when viewed in game. poke | talk 21:45, 13 December 2007 (UTC)
- Okay. So if we wanted a larger image we'd resize up the ones that are here because that's about as good as it gets? --Aspectacle 21:52, 13 December 2007 (UTC)

dat images
I suggest you upload further gw.dat images into your user namespace. Once the proper use is found out, then they can be renamed into the main namespace and your user versions can be deleted. -- br12 • (talk) • 22:29, 13 December 2007 (UTC)

(Reset indent) Hey there! I was wondering if you could tell me how to extract the high-res image for the Perfect Salvage Kit (like the one you just uploaded for the Superior Identification Kit). I need it for a reference image for something, so any help would be greatly appreciated! Are you using texmod to extract them? Kokuou 22:53, 13 December 2007 (UTC)

Maps 53 and 56
I don't think these are maps of anything in game, but mash-ups of the various dungeon sections. I've been browsing myself and ran across a similar one with sections/levels of Cathedral of Flames/Shards of Orr together on one map. For instance, map 53 has Battledepths in the top right, and bits of 2 levels of Darkrime that I can recognize. They could be test maps that were left in. --Valshia 18:19, 14 December 2007 (UTC)

Page size
How do you find out the page size? I'd like to know this, since I want to find a good time to archive my talk page or something. Vanguard 23:28, 12 November 2007 (UTC)
- here is an example, Guild_Wars_Wiki:Admin_noticeboard/Archive_5 click the 'edit" button and read the top line, hope this helps :) Fall 23:29, 12 November 2007 (UTC)
- (EC)For pages larger than 30KB it is shown @ the top of the edit window. Anything smaller doesn't require archiving (due to size). (And Fall was quicker :-) ) -- (CoRrRan / talk) 23:31, 12 November 2007 (UTC)
- Ah! So I just kinda wait for there to be a warning? Is there any way to find out prior to 30kb? Vanguard 23:34, 12 November 2007 (UTC)
- I guess you can try a "Save Page As" from your browser, though I find that is isn't always accurate Fall 23:36, 12 November 2007 (UTC)
- I guess I'll just have to wait until my talk gets overstuffed then, alrighty. Thanks for the answers. Vanguard 23:38, 12 November 2007 (UTC)
- (EC)In general, you don't have to worry about your talk page before 30KB. But if you really want to know, you could copy and paste the text into a text editor (i.e. UltraEdit), it will show you the total size of the text in the status bar. -- (CoRrRan / talk) 23:42, 12 November 2007 (UTC)

Deleting
I don't understand why my images were deleted I followed what other people had in their pages and yet they still have all their images, but for some reason mine are removed? Damaskinos 11:54, 21 December 2007 (UTC) Do you think that you could at least tell someone if they're uploads are going to be deleted instead of just doing it? You could at least be like all the other holy GWW Helpers and send us something on our talk page about what we're doing wrong so we can fix it. Azalea Ina Dorada 13:18, 8 December 2007 (UTC)

- I have many hobbies and no doubt Fall does too, that is none of your concern. However renaming your images obviously is your concern since you came here to complain about it. Perhaps you should spend some time renaming them instead of whining on talk pages. If you want the policy on user image naming changed post a proposition on it's talk page but I doubt you'll get the support needed to change it. Lyra Valo 14:20, 8 December 2007 (UTC)

- They can be tagged as Screenshot and User image both, but I find 2 tags makes it redundant and you have to see the sames images twice when looking through the screenshot and user image sections, as for why it doesn't have to be tagged as a screenshot, i have no idea. Fall 14:46, 8 December 2007 (UTC)
- To Lyra Valo: For one, I did rename my image names, so yeah, you tool. And I'll whine all I want, buddy. I just think that Fall should do something more productive than tag 1000 pages for deletion in one hour. And I have read up on how to name my images, if you took the time to check all of my other ones, it just happens that I'm human and make a mistake every once in a while, unlike you high and mighty figures of Wiki. It'd just be a little nicer to say "Az, you made a mistake, please fix it," instead of "Look at how to name these images on this page, you idiot." Azalea Ina Dorada 15:59, 8 December 2007 (UTC)
- Calm down, a mistake was made and it was nothing more than that. Don't resort into personal attacks because of a simple mistake.
Also, consider what right you have to decide what's productive and what's not. I think we are right to value such things differently. No one is calling you an idiot for naming them wrong? - anja 16:10, 8 December 2007 (UTC)- Um...I'm pretty serene right now, thanks. But it's called implying that I'm an idiot. I have an attitude, and I have the tendency to get defensive; that's not news to me. I wouldn't consider that a personal attack...I could go much, much further. But am I not right that they could be a little nicer, or maybe spend time playing GW instead of obsessing over the wiki page...? Azalea Ina Dorada 16:15, 8 December 2007 (UTC)
- Please explain to me which part of what I said implied you were an idiot. I could not know that you knew the policy and had just made a mistake so I directed you to the image policy page. I cannot understand why you have taken offense to the tagging of your images. I have been in your situation, when I joined the wiki I uploaded many of my images under the wrong names and they were deleted, however I note on my talk page showed me where I could learn to correct my mistakes and as such my future images were uploaded with suitable names for the user space. Please tell me what I could do differently that helps wiki users to see their images have been wrongly named and shows them the policy that details how they can do it correctly. It would be much appreciated if I could get your input so that in future problems like this do not arise. As arguments such as this are less productive than anything else on the wiki. Lyra Valo 10:10, 9 December 2007 (UTC)
- I'm not taking offense to the fact that two of my pictures were deleted, I'm just wondering why, if anybody has the free time to tag over 1000 pages for deletion in one hour, why Fall also didn't have the free time to just tell me "Az, your photos are named wrong." Then I'd be nice and say "Oh, okay, lemme change that."
What pisses me off the high and mighty We-Know-Way-More-Than-You tone that the GWW Helpers have, and, even though you and Fall aren't part of the "Helper" Program, you still have that tone. And, if you do warn people on their talk pages, maybe, since you have the free time to spend your life on Wiki, you should check out the rest of their pictures to see if they're named right. And for that matter, the pictures I had were for userbox icons; I'd never even seen a user box using a picture like mine, and, if it was, it was already on wiki with the correct name (i.e. Userboxes with icons of Character Skills).
Still, play the game, Wiki's better used for in-game help/walkthrough. Azalea Ina Dorada 14:21, 9 December 2007 (UTC)
PS-Arguments are productive; have you ever watched a Presidential Debate?- Demanding much? Fall volunteers his time to do an immense amount of work that very few people want to do because it is extremely monotonous. If he doesn't want to warn people that their images are going to be deleted or move them himself, too bad, it's not required. No other user has any right to dictate how much effort he puts in nor how much time he spends on fixing the mistakes of others. And doing so is far more rude than not leaving a message about misnamed images on a talk page. - BeX 14:43, 9 December 2007 (UTC)
- Whilst Bex has made some good points regarding Falls volunteering I still wish to apologize for my not putting a note on your talk page about the images I tagged, I must have forgotten to do that as I do try that for every user who's images I tag.
Regarding the "We-Know-More-Than-You" tone I do not intend to sound like that and it is probably not true in most cases, my knowledge of wiki code is lacking, but I do understand the image policies and try to help uphold them, I do not believe it is within your rights to grief myself and others for doing so.
I have not watched a Presidential Debate as I am 15 years old and live outside of the USA, this gives me little reason to do so. However I assume that in a Presidential Debate that candidates discuss subjects to do with each others policies and such. This argument was not as intellectual as I hope those debates are, here you were saying "You have no life because you tag images and you should have warned me" and we were saying "We are allowed to tag images we have done nothing wrong." That argument is not productive whichever way you look at it as no good would come of it. If you did want to have a strutted debate Guild Wars Wiki talk:Image use would be the correct place to do it. Once again I apologize if I acted without evidence that a not was placed on your talk page. Lyra Valo 14:55, 9 December 2007 (UTC)- I also think that posting a note that images are going to be deleted because they have the wrong naming is some kind of redundant. When you upload an image, there is a text explaining that you have to follow the image use policy. So if the users do not read, it's their own fault... poke | talk 15:09, 9 December 2007 (UTC)

It'd just be a little nicer to say "Az, you made a mistake, please fix it," instead of "Look at how to name these images on this page, you idiot." Azalea Ina Dorada 15:59, 8 December 2007 (UTC)
- They can be tagged as Screenshot and User image both, but I find 2 tags makes it redundant and you have to see the sames images twice when looking through the screenshot and user image sections, as for why it doesn't have to be tagged as a screenshot, i have no idea. (Reset indent) Correct, but the wiki should surely strive to be as user friendly as possible whilst still maintaining it's organization. I think a small note on a talk page should not be a requirement or even expected as that would be difficult for the tagging of 1000 images. But leaving a note the first time an error is made is helpful to both the user and the community as hopefully the user will learn from their mistake and name image correctly in future which means less images to tag in the long run. After the first warning I think that another should not be given as the user has evidently not taken heed of the first warning and is possibly deliberately defying the wikis policies. Poke I think your attitude of "You should have read the upload message so tough if we delete your images" is a little harsh on the newer users who are creating their first user page with images. - I never said that we should never leave a comment on a talk page, but for those who think a note is a requirement, they should know that there is something everyone who uploads a file always sees; so a note is not required. poke | talk 15:32, 9 December 2007 (UTC)
- But a note would be nice. Think of it: you just made a userbox and you're very proud of yourself. Next minute, the icon's gone and you're sitting there going "wtf?" Kinda like if you made a cake all by yourself for the first time and your mom throws it away because it doesn't follow Betty Crocker's rules to perfect cake-making.
And I understand that Fall volunteers to delete stuff, I just don't see why; the game of Guild Wars is so much more exciting that the Wiki for it, idk why nobody sees that! :D Azalea Ina Dorada 16:01, 9 December 2007 (UTC)- The userbox thing happened to me, except the pic was speedy deleted for copyvio. It was lame. Lyra Valo 16:38, 9 December 2007 (UTC)
- Tell me about it :( Azalea Ina Dorada 17:08, 9 December 2007 (UTC)
- You will find when i'm on the wiki I am also in-game waiting on friends to get on to vanquish or pvp ect, since I seem to be the only one who does the task of cleaning out Special:Uncategorizedimages taking the time to re-upload every wrongly named image, rename and relink it is not possible due to the mass numbers, at least 98% of all wrongly names images I tag, I also post on the users talk page a standard message, again due to the mass numbers I couldn't list every wrongly names image when its posted, things happen and users get missed, in the end each user is responsible for their images and the naming of them, I leave the messages so a user won't wonder why their image is gone and re-upload it again still wrongly named. Image deletions
Hi Fall, could you please tag orphaned images, especially guild and user images, with orphaned image instead of Speedy I1? poke | talk 14:43, 9 December 2007 (UTC)
- The ones I tagged with speedy were all Redundant images of images already on the wiki and in use under other names, I think one of those was also a corrupt image, but ill tag them via orphaned now :) Fall 01:21, 10 December 2007 (UTC)
Hey how did you...
How did you get your colored tables? I wanna make my page a bit more colorable, so Im just wondering. (The colored backrounds, jw how u got them) --The preceding unsigned comment was added by User:The Commander .
- I just added a color, background: {{a-color}} to the first box I created on my user page, the a-color makes the assassin color, just like the r-color would make the ranger color, if you want to add a border you can use border: 0px solid {{a-color|dark}} Fall 01:28, 10 December 2007 (UTC)
minipet icons
according to your contribs, you just uploaded focus/shield icons and many minipets. did you already -image your gw.dat? i'll search for the kanaxai icon and the other images that need an update. —ZerphaThe Improver 18:39, 13 December 2007 (UTC)
- The minis were already uploaded, I changed the tag from screenshot to anet image on them, im not sure how to do the -image yet. Fall 18:41, 13 December 2007 (UTC)
- ah k. but -image is easy, I also did not know how to do so some hours ago. see this talk or this. —ZerphaThe Improver 18:49, 13 December 2007 (UTC)

Weapon icons
Now that we have so many lovely icons, do you think this way of adding them could work, or did you have another plan? - anja 18:42, 13 December 2007 (UTC)
- Zerpha might be the one to ask on that one, I think he has a plan already. Fall 18:47, 13 December 2007 (UTC)
- Oh, ok, I'll ask there! Thanks :) - anja 18:48, 13 December 2007 (UTC)
- You did not answer on my talk page until now. Maybe you already found your answer. Well if not: the best way i'd like to see this icon brought in would be the top right corner in the item infobox. I did not get this programmed so far, as i'm not very versed in wiki-programming. If this should not be doable, there would still be other good places to place the icon. (As every item has an according icon, i suggest to place it into the infobox.) —ZerphaThe Improver 21:45, 13 December 2007 (UTC)

Maps
You're just having fun extracting all maps from gw.dat, huh ^-^? These maps are maybe also better like the maps that are used until now for Dungeons. The drawback would be the missing Minimap images. —ZerphaThe Improver 21:40, 13 December 2007 (UTC)
- Ya ive seen some pretty weird stuff, ran across a couple images that are from a test server , some of this is pretty funny. Fall 21:46, 13 December 2007 (UTC)
- i also saw on some maps outlying illustrations, possibly undiscovered easter eggs. Hmm, i'd possibly better have written this on User talk:Fall/Maps —ZerphaThe Improver 21:50, 13 December 2007 (UTC)
