Talk:Zaishen Chest
I see people that are willing to sell Zaishen Keys for more than 200k
I can't understand what people get their stuff from, is it merchandising? Nerd Farming?
KEYS???
i think its possible to get the Zkeys with balthazar or your respective canthan faction... is it? if so.. from who? Briar 23:29, 16 January 2009 (UTC)Briar
- You can get zkeys with Balthazar Faction, not Allegiance Faction, its 5k from Tolkano in the Great Temple of Balthazar and probably some other places, but i buy all mine from there -- C4K3 15:24, 15 April 2009 (UTC)
remove the consumables
Wow, a zaishen key is worth 5K and what did I get? A stupid Creme Brulee. Anet, is this the "epic" reward system you have promised us? You have to understand, pvp-ers have no use for consumables. My suggestion is to add a npc who hands out consumables for faction (for example 1K faction for 1 {put consumable here}) Please, make the chest drop ANYTHING apart from consumables. Thx -Jon --83.26.12.141 17:59, 9 December 2007 (UTC)
- I die a little inside everytime I get a drink. lol but hearing that its like a "lottery machine" You have to expect a lot of.....how do i say.....bad drops in with a few good. Besides, Chest runners or hunters or w/e they are called, usually dont get very good drops and key prices can go up quite a bit. I remember back in the day *long story*. But even though I HATE spedning 5k balth on drink, I don't think they should be removed. Maybe increase the rate of weapons just a tad, but not get rid of them. Ajc2123
- Yeah, consumables dropping from it are dumb. It's bad enough that non-elite tomes drop, but jeez... -Auron 00:51, 10 December 2007 (UTC)
Resetting the indent. The Zaishen Chest is a GAMBLE, people. Just like the Coffer of Whispers. The odds of you getting something extremely valuable from it is low, but you never know, you MIGHT get lucky. If you're the kind of person who doesn't like that kind of risk, then sell the Zaishen Keys. I see people offering to buy them for 3 - 5k in Great Temple of Balthazar all the time. - Zaxares 02:49, 10 December 2007 (UTC)
- I wonder how much more annoying it would be if the chest, instead of dropping worthless PvE items, dropped an item that gave you 1k Balthazar faction. Only 4k more to try again. --Reklaw 21:42, 11 December 2007 (UTC)
- Noooooooot worthless, itsa gamble, all items work for titles or give aw way to the complaining pvpers who couldnt get them before to get the potions etc. Its fine the way it is. Ajc2123

I'm not the gambling type of person. Just let us choose our rewards. Most games which feature rewards allows us to choose what kind of reward we want for the effort. I don't have anything against a chest dropping random loot, but when there come consumables that aren't even worth the 5K faction, then this "epic reward system" is to be disputed. Anet, please think this through. -Jon --83.26.7.74 20:07, 12 December 2007 (UTC)
- I would rather the Tomes were removed...it seems kind of silly to have skill tomes for PvP rewards...since a pure PvP account has no use for them. At all. No titles. Nothing. -{Srakin 08:40, 21 December 2007 (UTC)
- Here's a concept. You ready for this? Maybe, just maybe, the keys were never worth 5k to begin with. People are just gullible and/or stupid.71.56.140.89 15:19, 1 January 2008 (UTC)
- Exactly. They are literally worth nothing. Just go do some Random Arenas for a little while like people normally do, and you get a key as a bonus present. — ク Eloc 貢 19:46, 1 January 2008 (UTC)
- Here's another concept...Maybe, just maybe, this chest wasn't made for people who ONLY like to PvP! =O A lot of people like to do both PvE and PvP, so this chest is great for them. They get to add stuff to titles for free (assuming they don't buy the keys) with the chance of getting a rare. Also, as it has been said before, this Chest is a gamble. Be glad that you're getting at least something instead of having half the keys being duds. Datrulegend 02:31, 31 March 2008 (UTC)
- Ummmm... this might be a dumb question, but it also might very well be the most profound, overlooked, and insightful question to ever cross the "Pure PvPer's" arguments... What rewards could you get that are possibly of more use to you than consumable's or tomes? FleshAndFaith 08:02, 2 November 2009 (UTC)

- I've now ten times in a row (I've been counting) gotten either flasks or brulees from this chest, I can't see why 5,000 Balth faction or 500 Copper Coins is worth a sweet tooth point.Eive Windgrace 22:19, 17 November 2009 (UTC)

- Yea def. real, post pic please. Mango
well, is it going to be used if you win like 25 in a row on zaishen elite or something?
wait, what do you mean "forcing everyone off"
- I've been running around with the "new build available" thing bugging me for a while. I popped over to the Great Temple of Balthazar once I'd finished my long run to Rata Sum, and tried entering the Isle of the Nameless, and it just hung, forcing me to quit. I'm guessing this is the "forcing everyone off" being refered to. Now that I've updated, I can get in, but of course now there's no chest to be found. --68.187.144.197 02:50, 30 November 2007 (UTC)
btw dont delete this because everyone should know this IMO
- I thought it was going to be like a PvP item or something - didn't think it was a glitch until after I opened it, maybe it's a reward for finishing all the challenges on the Isle? Anon

The game just didn't magically create this item out of nothing.... It must exist within the game, just access to it might have been a bug.. Anon

- The chest has been removed but it did exist. My guess is it wasn't supposed to be where it was, but there is some other way to get it. So maybe it's a new addition to do with the ATS or some kind of PvP reward? Alternatives it could be some kind of testing chest the devs use and it was accidentally put into the game, but is only used for testing. 122.104.226.221
- Izzy once admitted to a GM only skill, and later in that stated it is in the .dat file... perhaps this chest is two, and is used for testing randomness?--68.102.128.17 04:48, 30 November 2007 (UTC)

Drop Rates?
Anyone have any data whatsoever on drop rates? This is not a formal survey, but I would merely like to know what the chest is likely to drop... -- Frozzen 04:38, 7 December 2007 (UTC)

Economic Repercussions
Is this ArenaNet's way of telling us that our days of making good money from rare weapon sales is over for good? Prices have divebombed badly already, and now you can farm formerly extremely rare items by only spending some Balthazar faction. My Obsidian armor is slipping further and further away...--Glenforder 10:30, 7 December 2007 (UTC)
- I see it as Anet's way to tell us that pvper must not be poor. even as a pve'er, I like the idea. Foo 10:55, 7 December 2007 (UTC)
- PvPers now have income aside from the HoH chest. Sounds fair to me.
- Although the eternal blade market just crashed. -Auron 10:59, 7 December 2007 (UTC)
- Now if you always win, you get to a chest, and then can come there and open another one. And if you always lose, at least can go to the other chests, much more infrequently, and open it. Now there is a consolation price that never was, and the win prices are higher. Since the drops can be Crème Brulée and Flask of Firewater too, the chest is not completely an instant source of income. MithranArkanere 12:54, 7 December 2007 (UTC)
The way I see it, a great many of the economic changes made by ANet in recent months all point to one thing; ANet is trying to lower prices of all rare goods across the board. They have a marked trend towards making extremely rare vanity items easier for the casual player to obtain, save for perhaps the extremely rare minipets. (And even so, I believe ANet is secretly upset that people are selling these minipets for obscene amounts of gold.)
The core reason behind this? I suspect that it's ANet's strategy of dealing with gold farmers. If rare items are much easier to obtain, resulting in a price crash that allows the vast majority of players to purchase them, they are effectively causing massive deflation and reducing the need for gold. If players can easily get the skins they want, they will have no reason to buy gold from gold farmers; they can get whatever they need just by playing the game, running keyless chests, or hitting the Zaishen Chest a couple of times a month. - Zaxares 13:01, 7 December 2007 (UTC)
Stopping gilsellers is all well and good (and should happen), but they're hurting their elite PvE player base in the process. Unless they're going to reduce the costs of Elite Armor and other extremely expensive things, this economy nerfing is hurting a lot more people than just the gilsellers. My rare drops now sell for around half of what they did just a month or two ago, but Obsidian armor is still almost 700k.--Glenforder 16:09, 7 December 2007 (UTC)
- It's supposed to be expensive, that's the point of gold sinks. - HeWhoIsPale 16:51, 7 December 2007 (UTC)
- You're ignoring the first half of that sentence; the "My rare drops now sell for around half of what they did just a month or two ago." If the FoW armor stays constant but your investment's value goes down the drain thanks to ANet, there's nothing you can do aside from weep. Hours spent farming those items shouldn't be a total waste. -Auron 23:19, 7 December 2007 (UTC)
- @glenforder Even the price of obby armor has dropped thanks to prices of ecto/shards dropping. it used to cost around 1.5 mil.--Ryudo 23:29, 7 December 2007 (UTC)

Creme Brulees and Firewaters - why?
Out of all the basically worthless items to throw into this chest, why those two? PvPers looking for something to spend faction on aren't going to want a huge stack of firewater to spend literally hours of their life consuming in an attempt to achieve the most stupidly designed title track in the game (drunkard), and similarly, they wouldn't really be interested in sweets. Why not something else, like rare crafting materials (or stacks of gold)? :/ -Auron 12:21, 7 December 2007 (UTC)
- Drunk + PvP = Awesome. Skuld was drunk on his ninja in a HM mission (I think it was Gyala), it made the experience like 37.89% better, Imagine the gain you would get in PvP... Drunk while holding halls. -- scourge 12:24, 7 December 2007 (UTC)
- Because PvPers have no way of getting drunk. The Guild Hall merchant do not sell alcohol. On top of that, this reduces the chances of getting other more expensive items, so the Zaishen chest do not become so much an 'insta-cash' feature. MithranArkanere 12:51, 7 December 2007 (UTC)
- Stacks of gold and rare crafting materials are useful to PvP chars? Without spending any money at all they are able to get max armour, max weapons and almost every skin in the game, with next to no effort compared to a PvE character.... What need do they have of money? 122.104.228.3 13:10, 7 December 2007 (UTC)
- So that all time of PvP can get you some nice armor on the single PvE character those pvp addicts have. Rhydeble 14:27, 7 December 2007 (UTC)
- Well, a pure PvP account can't get dyes with his PvE caracters so they can dye armors with other combinations different to those available in the panels, or kits to identify HoH rewards... in fact, pure PvP accounts can't get weapon upgrades for those and tournament rewards... so if the reason are the pure PvP accounts, the next logical step would be adding an upgrade trader... ah! And Pet unlocks, XD MithranArkanere 16:48, 7 December 2007 (UTC)
- "What need do they have of money?" Oh, I dunno, just Guild Halls (17k or so every time you want a new map), capes (2k per design), invites and guest invites (100g per, which is a lot considering guesting is done multiple times per day), and (possibly) the Guild Hall NPCs, which cost upward of 500k. If ANet removed all gold expenditure for PvP costs (tied Guild Hall prices and invites/guest invites to Balth Faction), then I would have no problem with PvPers having just the income from HoH chest... but seeing as those things cost a lot, might as well throw in something useful for them. -Auron 23:17, 7 December 2007 (UTC)
- That's really not a bad idea. Given the exacting costs of these functions, what would you consider a fair Balthazar/Gold exchange rate? Would it be 1:1, 10:1? Balthazar faction flows fairly quickly, but so does gold... --Mystisteel 23:22, 7 December 2007 (UTC)
- Pssh PvP shouldn't be given any kind of viable gold farming, they are already incredibly privileged with max everything, free skills and much easier and cheaper acquisition of rare skins (Tribal Axe is a basic reward for crying out loud). With the inclusion of PvE weapons which were almost impossible to obtain in PvE (HoH chest waay better than the UW chest and those other purple massive loot table chests), PvP was already given an unfair advantage. If they got rid of the "PvP characters" from GW or GW2 I would have no problem with some kind of gold rewards for PvP but as it stands, they are privileged too much already. There is almost no advantage (aesthetic) to playing a PvE char over PvP now... which is completely wrong. 122.104.228.3 06:52, 8 December 2007 (UTC)
- Who in the world said anything about gold farming in PvP? The poster mentioned it would be nice to buy guild-related items specifically with Balthazar Faction rather than gold. I agreed with him, and asked what ratio of worth the faction would have. In what way could that possible turned into "gold farming in PvP"? --Mystisteel 07:16, 8 December 2007 (UTC)

i got a freakin gold req 9 celestial shield (tactics) from the chest :O:O:O:O:O
- That's why I think all rare gold drops from Zaishen Chest are r9 and fully modded with random mod. The skin is random art from ALL weapon skins in the game. So you should have a chance to get a Crystalline from it. Lightblade 22:33, 10 December 2007 (UTC)
- No, they're not all req. 9. I just got a gold req. 13 Skull Longbow. Fully modded, though. Kite 02:33, 14 April 2008 (UTC)

Zaishen Chest
- → moved from User talk:Gaile Gray
Hey Gaile, as you probably know when the BMP went live yesterday a mysterious chest appeared in the Isle of the Nameless. Would be able to clarify what exactly happened with the Isle of the Nameless and what, if any, use the chest now has, (since it's removal/movement)? Also will people who used the chest be banned? Anon
- It would be extremely unnecissery for Anet to ban people who used the chest, I very much doubt that they will take that approach. ^^ Although the purpose of the chest itself is something that I should think alot of us are itching to find out about. :P --Alien 18:16, 30 November 2007 (UTC)
- My guess is they borked up on a holiday event/future tournament chest and stuck it in early. I doubt people will be banned - the chest was in the game, no exploits required. --71.229.204.25 02:01, 1 December 2007 (UTC)
- yah, maybe even a chest that they could add to team arenas that spawned after each 20 wins or something --Cursed Angel 02:22, 1 December 2007 (UTC)
- I have not heard even the distant swing of the Hammer O' Banning, so I'm sure all is well. As to what that was all about... let's just say that there are some cool things coming. :) -- Gaile 02:29, 1 December 2007 (UTC)
- I'm releived to hear you say that and I'm VERY excited about this new cool thing coming. Could the chest possibly be 5-10k balth faction to open the chest? - This is the new balth faction sink?:P I'm just guessing I know you can't say.^^Anon

(Reset indent) I think that everyone now has confirmation of just what the mysterious chest was all about, eh? The thing is, from what I've been tracking on forums and in the game, there are still undiscovered goods to be had from those chests. Undiscovered and significantly fabulous goods, if truth be told. Good luck to everyone! -- Gaile 05:23, 8 December 2007 (UTC)

- This is driving me crazy... I keep getting Crem Brule from it and no-one has found these new unique items... must be a VERY low chance. 122.104.231.28 11:47, 10 December 2007 (UTC)
Is it that remarkable that this doesn't count towards treasure hunter?
(See subject), after all, it does not have a key that costs money so it cannot fulfill the requirements of having a key to unlock it that costs greater than 600g...-- Frozzen 02:53, 10 December 2007 (UTC)
- I think it should, honestly. Essentially the only reason it doesn't is so that the treasure hunter title can still be utilized as a HUGE gold-sink. For us casual players, treasure hunter/wisdom and titles like drunkard are pretty unattainable because of the insane gold investment. Six million gold for max rank Treasure hunter anyone? Mesodreth Blackwing 04:12, 10 December 2007 (UTC)
- Yeah it's pretty significant... the items are max stat items. It's one of the greatest chests in the game in terms of potential drops, so I think the tag is important. 122.104.231.28 11:49, 10 December 2007 (UTC)
- Dungeon chests and the Chest of Woe don't give Treasure Hunter points either, so I don't think it's at all remarkable. I suppose PvP only people wouldn't necessarily know that, since this is the only chest accessible to them.

Worried about extreme rarity of new "Undiscovered and significantly fabulous goods"
3 complete days has passed, 3 days with most guid wars players putting extra effort on this chest and not a single drop of those "undiscovered and significantly fabulous goods" (gaile) or "the *really* cool drops"(andrew). I don't really know the nature of those, but if they really are that cool and fabulous I do want to have the opportunity to get one eventually, but at this rate only one of those drops will be discovered once every 4 days or even once a week (even being optimistic since none has yet confirmed to be dropped).
So forget about expecting one dropping for you (or me), the only option would be to buy one, surely i won't be able to buy the firsts ones. But at this rate... after a whole year only about 50~100 of those things will drop in total (actually being optimistic!). Assuming All will be auctionated (that will not), I am not, and I will never be one of the 100 top richest people in gw. So basically I can say that this items mean nothing to me no matter how cool or fabulous they are, since I won't have any way to get one. I just hope Anet wants to artificially create thrill about the firsts drops of this and then fix the drop rate. (which is a big backward move regarding how to obtain high end items if you ask me, but that's another discussion which i won't start until i actually know what are those things)
If someone noticed I am the same guy that complains about not having a worthy axe to work for in Talk:Economy, I complain about not having good high-end items in certain areas, but there is an extreme difference with something you can attain in one day and something you can't attain ever. High End goals should be achievable in a reasonable window of time spent, in my opinion something between 15 and 45 days for someone who dedicates 4 hours a day, so that's between 60 and 180 hours of gameplay, I think that is a nice and worthy time for obtaining a fabulous or *really* cool high end item, but seems that won't be the case, and that's sad. Sure you can have other opinion about it, actually I would like to make some polls about this, but I don't know how. Coran Ironclaw 22:05, 10 December 2007 (UTC)
- I'd have to agree on this one--something of this magnitude worries me greatly, as it will completely skew the GW economy. What I'd like to say has pretty much been summed up in the above paragraphs... -- Frozzen 22:48, 10 December 2007 (UTC)
- Wait, a Flask of Firewater isn't an undiscovered and significantly fabulous good? Gee, I thought I was lucky to have gotten three of them to add to my large stack in the bank... /yawn. --Mystisteel 22:51, 10 December 2007 (UTC)
- Making that many assumptions is not really productive, IMO. The entire argument here is based on assumptions: that most players are using the chest, that not one of those "fabulous" items has dropped (not all players would run to a forum and post pictures), that those items are actually something beyond what we already know, and that the items are something you would like to get. I would worry if those assumptions become true, not now. Erasculio 22:59, 10 December 2007 (UTC)
- how often does a perfect crystalline drop? i would imagine it wouldn't be more than once every few days. maybe even a week. has the crystalline ruined the game for u? i hesitate to put words in ur mouth, but u're still playing so apparently the game isn't completely lost. this drop, if it indeed exists and is desirable, will just be a crystallinesque drop. i would guess no more than a handful of ppl in the millions of players who've played this game have a perfect crystalline. so what? --VVong|BA 23:26, 10 December 2007 (UTC)
- @Erasculio: I have to agree there are assumptions, that's why I stated a "worried" state instead of saying something like, "I think this is bad..." or suggesting a change. 1) Maybe i didn't expressed it correctly about the "most players" thing, the point there is that chest is used a lot more this days that will be used later, and while it is still an assumption I find it hard to dissmiss. 2) not one has dropped, well, an assumption, and I know that maybe it is not true, but even if that is not true they have not been public sells of the item, so you can't get items from people who do not sell them or at least go and post they found them, and the number of auctioned (or selled) items like that will still be around the numbers as I posted before. 3) items beyond we already know, assumption yes, but I think somewhere there is a direct quoute from andrew saying that this things will only drop from this chest. 4) Item actually being desirable. Maybe the biggest assumption, but the devs seem to be so emotive about it.... Conclusion I might be wrong but the assumptions are not so light founded.
- @VVong: I really don't know about the crystalline drop, and actually you make assumptions also, the crystalline while very rare does not have a very popular skin, and actually I personally don't feel very inclined about it. So I think that is why the price of a cystalline is on the attainable level despite its rarity, I think around 2M, costly and hard yes but attainable. And I never said this would ruin the game for me. But still I think every item should be attainable. Coran Ironclaw 00:03, 11 December 2007 (UTC)
- But as far as we know, they (Patick and Gaile) could be talking about, say, a Transmogrifier Tonic or a Yuletide Tonic. Right now the only way to get those is through the Zaishen chest (hence Patrick's quote); and someone who likes those would consider them to be "fabulous" or whatever other adjective has been used. Erasculio 11:04, 11 December 2007 (UTC)
- I'm fairly certain that they meant the only way to ever get these items was through the chest, so I am still fairly worried... Then again, I would be ever so joyous if I was the one to find this item because on its first drop it will probably sell for more money than you could ever use... -- Frozzen 15:28, 11 December 2007 (UTC)
- @Erasculio: That would be soooo dissapointing about their judgment on "the *really* cool" or "significantly fabolous" drops. But yet, that could be... any confirmation?
- @Frozzen: I would probably do the same, but I wouldn't be really joyous(well maybe a few minutes), but I would still be worried. why? Coran Ironclaw 16:46, 11 December 2007 (UTC)
- Andrew has said very clearly it's a drop that cannot be obtained in any ways other than from this chest. Gaile said she have been watching forums and such and so far this mysterious drop has not dropped. Barinthus 18:51, 11 December 2007 (UTC)
- Shoot, no thanks to the lack of sleep... I forgot to add this... what is the fuss over this drop, really? I see no difference between the mini Mallyx or mini Ghostly Hero - both extremely rare drops not easily obtained. Barinthus 18:53, 11 December 2007 (UTC)
- I wont know until I know what it is. Coran Ironclaw 19:07, 11 December 2007 (UTC)
- I very much doubt anet would make it something like a new ultra rare miniature that will sell for 100k+planet earth+moar armbraces...instead it will be something slightly less epic such as the semi-eternal blade which is only partially transparent and purple. s/b earth's moon? 67.191.245.177 20:35, 11 December 2007 (UTC)

All the Zaishen chest have been getting recently were angry messages about "oh no crappy consumables someone help us!" but has anyone even stopped to say thank you? I for one, even though I'm only partly a PvP player, love this new balth sink. It is exactly what I've been wanting. No I don't go for titles really, but I love me some drunken AB. You've never experienced AB until you've done it drunk on firewater ^_^ It also gives a way to pure pvp players to get these titles if they so wish, and I know there are title crazy people out there, so they are there. Most of the golds I've gotten are ok, but to me this is a way to gear up my PvE characters while I PvP, or perhaps get some cool bows, daggers, or scythes for my pvp characters. While it is aggravating about the number of sheer cremes i get, They are useful for my guild's many parties. It's also not a huge way to make money either so its evened out to me. I see nothing wrong with this chest, and overall its the best thing that has happened since Gwen, and perhaps until GW2. So if you could pass the word along to Anet, I'd like to thank them for a job well done on this particular update, and of course, thank you for your time Gaile. Ajc2123
- Thanks a lot for a very thoughtful note. I agree that the chests are great, on many levels, and I'm very happy that we were able to add them to the game. The variety of items is good, and the whole concept is of value. Getting the Balthazar Faction is fun. Having something new and potentially lucrative is great fun, too! -- Gaile 03:44, 13 December 2007 (UTC)
- Zaishen got me back into AB-ing. can youdrop us a hint about the drop(s) from the chest(s) you alluded to on GWGuru? not what is it exactly, but for example.. how many? weapons/offhand or mini's? is there more than one chest (you DID say Chests) -TehBuG-
- Oh, when I said "chests," I really meant the spawns of the Zaishen Chest, that's all. As to what's in store, well, your best source for that information is probably Andrew Patrick. I'm not sure if he's talking, but I know he knew of this long ago (having talked with Isaiah and James many times about the subject), and I'm pretty sure at this point Andrew knows allll about the chests. ;) -- Gaile 05:24, 13 December 2007 (UTC)
- I side with the people who like the chest. It's a way for fully unlocked accounts to use up their Balth faction anyway, and as for myself, since I rarely PvP... I've found a use for all those TRPs I've won and didn't know what to use on. In a way, it's an addition of free stuff, and I'm sure that those who complain conveniently forget that it might as well not have been added at all. Kudos to ANet, I love the chest. :) -- Elv 11:19, 13 December 2007 (UTC)

I'm actually surprised that some complained given that most there thought it would be a great idea. Personally, and I said it there as I say it here, I love it. Keep up the good work, ANet. I think those who complain were hoping for armor/item skin unlocks, which would also be a nice idea, at least for the easier-to-get stuff (keep the elite armors PvE-accessible-only). - Well, perhaps not all elite armors... but they are meant to show off something special you accomplished in PvE. It'd be odd to see endgame armors or FoW armors on those who never stepped in PvE. But I think that some new "PvP-only" armors would be nice, armors that you need to spend Balth faction to unlock, although once unlocked you could also acquire them for use on PvE chars for the appropriate amount of cash & materials. That would be cool. Alaris 19:40, 13 December 2007 (UTC)
- You see that view is just so biased...why is PvE any more important than PvP? you think you should get exclusive armors! And the for the suggestion you just made of PvP exclusive armors, a line later you said you should be able to get them in PvE...see how biased! There is no reason PvP players should have anything less than a PvE'r...And the armor's are not "meant to show off something special you have achieved in PvE" they are just to show off how much you have spent (Gold OR RP's) on your character. Armor's should in no way be PvE only! --ChronicinabilitY 19:58, 13 December 2007 (UTC)

- The reason behind the 'complaints' is that consumeable items are the most PvE thing in Guild Wars! People who do both dont mind but for the PvP community its not really what they wanted. I'm not complaining myself but i can see where they might be coming from. Things like Sigils would be much more usefull than Alcohol. Most of the PvP community simply exchanges their faction for keys, and then sells them to PvE players, because what is actually in the chest is much more attractive to a PvE'r than a PvPer. Thats just my experience of it so far. --ChronicinabilitY 19:12, 13 December 2007 (UTC)

Rare items that you cant get in the game
It has been suggested by Andrew Patrick that "There are rare items that can drop from this chest that you cannot get anywhere else in the game." (source) though as of yet, their identity has not been confirmed.

A rare drop that gives bonus against Jade?
I found this hard to believe. I was playing Ice Caves with a warrior who was claiming to have a drop from Zaishen Chest that was an item that reverses the damage from Jade from yourself back to the Jade. So he was claiming that while he would be getting hit for 15, the Jade Armor in the mission was getting the damage instead. He wouldn't show it to me via trade, and I don't know what it would be called either. I wouldn't even know what kind of item it was. This is totally fabricated, right? Listing ZChest for Drops

Unlucky?
I only started using the Zaishen chest since July, but almost every time I seem to be getting Creme Brulee. I've once had it drop 5 times in a row. Is the item just naturally a higher drop rate? In total, I've gotten 8 creme brulees, 1 flask of firewater and one gold r9 winged staff. 24.18.89.24 11:29, 2 August 2008 (UTC)

Crap Drops
I know this has been discussed before, but... enough with the non-max items and the consumables! You know, I'm even fine getting normal tomes, but at least reduce the drops of consumables and make all items that drop max and req 9 with an inscription slot. I've used the chest over 200 times (after the title creation, probably another 200 before title creation), and over half were consumables, maybe about 50 tomes, and lots of req 13s. I got like 2 elite tomes and a few good golds, maybe 1-2 tonics, and that's it. I've spent over a million faction on a keys, and I'm getting total crud. - I'm with you on this. I've not seen a 'non-max' weapon before, but q10 to q13 weapons should be removed to at least allow for some recovery of the cost/worth of your key. And as for the consumables, if they aren't going to be removed, at least make them drop in higher, possibly random, amounts. Getting 1 firewater for the cost of a 3k-5k key is just horrible. At least getting, let's say 5-10 firewaters for the cost of 1 key, eases the sting a bit. Not likely to change though, so /EndRant --209.194.208.116 23:40, 9 June 2009 (UTC)
- If you increase the drop value the prices of the keys would increase aswell.(although not with the same %) I'd also like to say that if multiple flasks/creme brulees would drop those would drop in value (and they are worth !!! already). If you are planning to use these items yourself however it would be nice. You can visit the Gift_of_the_Traveler/Drop_rate research page to see that out of 2498 gifts opened by contributors, none of them resulted in an ECF. The fact they cost the equivalent of 25,000 copper zaishen coins is also indicative of the rarity. Flipper 15:56, 10 June 2009 (UTC)

Is it missing a large chunk of factions items?
It has been noted that certain skins just don't drop from the chest.
The chest has been around long enough, and yet nobody knows for sure what can/cant drop from the chest.
We see things like Celestial Shields, swords and axes, but not celestial wands or staffs.
We don't see oni blades, echovalds, or outcast shields...
Is it missing a large chunk of factions items?
What else is missing from the list?
I think we should compile a list of every item in the game as we see it drop from the chest. 71.239.152.236 04:41, 24 August 2011 (UTC)
- There is already a list, see Zaishen Chest/Drop rate. --Silver Edge 05:06, 24 August 2011 (UTC)
I'm PvE yet,
I do a fair share of Factions battles FA and JQ (AB is dead). I only recently started going after my r3 zaishen for HoM and I love the chest! I can get my titles faster thanks to it an get closer to gwamm. I can't see why pvp players complain so much as they can get all their activity titles in pvp and have at least something for GW2 (. HA, RA, and codex + the three activity titles and zaishen is 7 titles also don't you get skill hunter in pve/pvp for unlocking all elite skills then tombing on a pve character from all the elite tomes you get? I can't see a problem here. 16 statues and at least 5-10 titles and at least 10-12 points in the hall of monuments. Stop complaining now! You got a lot from this.Yumiko ^,~ 19:10, 6 November 2011 (UTC)
Non-Perfect Items
After reading the notes on this page I was under the impression that almost all weapons you got from this chest were perfect. However, after using 10 keys I got 2 shields and a staff (and 3 creme brulees, 2 firewaters and 2 lockpicks), none of which were perfect.
-The staff required 11 energy storage and had a "Seize The Day" inscription which only gave 14 energy.
-The first shield had an 'Of Valor' enhancement that gave only 59 hp.
-The second shield required 13 tactics and had an 'Of Devotion' enhancement which only gave 44 hp.
Judging from other comments on this talk page, non-perfect items seem to actually be very common, so maybe the page should be changed? 95.96.142.89 11:37, 29 February 2012 (UTC)
- "Although this chest almost always drops inscribable, max weapons, on rare occasions it can spawn weapons that are uninscribable and/or non-max." This is the quote that led you to this assumption? "Max" is used differently than "perfect", referring to maximum damage, not "maximum" mods. Manifold 16:05, 29 February 2012 (UTC)
- I agree with the OP that the original phrasing gave a misleading impression. I've updated the text to give a better sense that the weapons can have a high requirement and (much less often) be non-inscribable or non-max. – Tennessee Ernie Ford (TEF) 17:55, 29 February 2012 (UTC)
@Manifold: When you type 'max' in the search bar, it'll redirect you to perfect. So according to this wiki, it totally is the same. 95.96.142.89 00:16, 2 March 2012 (UTC)
