Welcome[edit]

Hello, Mgrinshpon, and welcome to the Official Guild Wars Wiki! If you need help with anything, please feel free to add a message to my talk page. I highly recommend that you check out the "Welcome to the wiki" page - it's extremely useful as an initial guide. Best of luck and happy editing! Also, your signature doesn't reach the standards of the GWW:SIGN policy. So please fix up your signature so it does match the policy.--§ Eloc § 05:36, 12 August 2007 (UTC)

I've had an account here for a while, since this wiki first opened up as a matter of fact. This is just the first time I've ever decided to contribute anything with PvXwiki being up an all.
Instead of merely saying, "this doesn't work with this massive block of text", you might want to try being a bit more specific. I end up doing very similar things on PvXwiki. The fact of the matter is, most users (including myself sadly) will say "tl;dr" and not bother trudging through 20 pages of policy for a minute error they've missed. Furthermore, the signature works on Guildwiki which is basically this wiki with a few minor edits in a few policies and a vastly smaller amount of content (which I'll help with when I'm not busy working on things IRL). The signature policy is, as far as I can see, identical. —ǥȓɩηɔɧ/ 05:46, 12 August 2007 (UTC)
"Signatures may show a shortened version of your user name. In order to do this you must register that shortened version as a user account and make the user page of the new account a redirect to your user page. The shorter version must be an easily recognized variation of your name." AS of right now, it's ǥȓɩηɔɧ. Except your username doesn't have a c in it. Also, "Your signature should clearly identify the user". As of right now, I couldn't clearly read that. Too me, that looked like grunch. Which in the end, is far from grinsh. Don't forget to register that name and redirect ;).--§ Eloc § 05:58, 12 August 2007 (UTC)
A little backstory time perhaps? Mgrinshpon can be split into M, for my first name, Michael, and my last name, Grinshpon. Grinshpon is pronounced Grinch-pon. It's merely a corruption of my actual, real life name and most people on other wiki's identify me as such. This can be seen here, on the last line as well and several other people can attest to that. Armond is one, I believe. Worst comes to worst, I'll change my ɩ to something else. Anyhow, now you know. —ǥȓɩηɔɧ/ 06:04, 12 August 2007 (UTC)
"In order to do this you must register that shortened version as a user account and make the user page of the new account a redirect to your user page." Have you done this yet? "Your signature should clearly identify the user" I still can't read it properly. It still looks like grunch or grunch. Also, anyone can call you that if your signature is like that. People here call me Eloc and my username is Eloc Jcg. But yours isn't grinch, its grinsh. grinch is not a shortened version of Mcgrinshpon was you just changed an s to a c.--§ Eloc § 06:13, 12 August 2007 (UTC)
I'm not an admin, I'm not instantaneous with my changes. Give me a few minutes lol. —ǥȓɩηɔɧ/ 06:16, 12 August 2007 (UTC)
There we go. —ǥȓɩηşɧ/ 06:19, 12 August 2007 (UTC)
Better, but I'd still appreciate if you'd please change the ɩη to something else or space them out a bit so they look more in in.--§ Eloc § 06:20, 12 August 2007 (UTC)
Agreed. But while I like the look of it, if I didn't bother to actually come to your talk page, I would not have figured out exactly what word you're spelling. Could you change it so that it uses mostly english alphabets? -- ab.er.rant sig 02:23, 13 August 2007 (UTC)
Well, you two would be the first then. No one else has ever pointed out they can't read this siggy of mine. —ǥȓɩηşɧ/ 03:43, 13 August 2007 (UTC)
But that doesn't imply that they can read it. I mentioned it to you because I know there's a specific clause that restricts signatures that don't show your username clearly. I think something less exotic would make it better. -- ab.er.rant sig 11:07, 13 August 2007 (UTC)
"...you two would be the first then" ← make that three. I just figured out here for the first time that ǥȓɩηɔɧ is supposed to be the "grinsh" part in Mgrinshpon, even after the dozens of times I've seen it back on GuildWiki. I may not be the brightest bulb, but that sig can't really be called readable either. --Dirigible 11:27, 13 August 2007 (UTC)
Too slow. It's already been changed. No need to beat a dead horse. —ǥrɩɳsɧƿoɲ/ 13:01, 13 August 2007 (UTC)

(reset indent) That's almost everything you wanted me to do, save for the I, which, IMO, is fine. —ǥrɩɳsɧƿoɲ/ 04:19, 13 August 2007 (UTC)

I dunno, I still think you should change the ɩɳ to something else.--§ Eloc § 18:14, 13 August 2007 (UTC)
You've already gotten almost everything you want. Leave that bit intact. On a side note, you would be the only person who can't read it. Auron could. Rawrrawr Dinosaur could. Frvwfr2 could. You're the only one. —ǥrɩɳsɧƿoɲ/ 19:08, 13 August 2007 (UTC)
Aberant said he couldn't. But w/e.--§ Eloc § 19:12, 13 August 2007 (UTC)
I wish you would stop assuming that "nobody complain" = "everything fine". But that's beside the point and thank you for changing your signature. It's much more recognisable now (although I wouldn't mind if you changed it more, but it's ok :P). -- ab.er.rant sig 02:14, 14 August 2007 (UTC)

Bah, now I have to standardize my sigs on all the other wikis. You're meaner than me, and I'm the Grinch! —ǥrɩɳsɧƿoɲ/ 04:34, 14 August 2007 (UTC)

I feel for you Mgrinshpon. A lot of people seem to want things 'Their Way'. I See nothing wrong in haveing you're sig exactly as you had it, if they really have that much trouble understanding who it is (which i can't believe for 1 minute) then they can simply click on you're sig, which correctly links to you're userpage, and find out!!--ChronicinabilitY User Chronicinability Spiteful Spirit.jpg 09:46, 25 August 2007 (UTC)

Laptop[edit]

Just saw your discussion on Izzy's talk page... fifty rebates? Can you still use your hand after all those?!

...Anyway, just curious, what sort of laptop did you manage to get with all those rebates? -- Jioruji Derako.> 03:21, 19 August 2007 (UTC)

Acer deal that just ended, Compaq deal starting up. The Acers had a glitch where you could upgrade to Vista Ultimate for free due to a massive software glitch and came with a free printer. The Compaq has neither, but it's a free laptop! —ǥrɩɳsɧƿoɲ/ 03:24, 19 August 2007 (UTC)
Nice... Athlon processors? I'm jealous! I've got a laptop that's probably a bit more powerful, but it's an Intel machine... I like the Athlon processor a lot better. Nice deal. -- Jioruji Derako.> 03:31, 19 August 2007 (UTC)
The Athlon is worse because a Pentium M, based off of the PIII architecture is more efficient than an Athlon laptop processor (Socket754). Socket 754 means it has no integrated memory controller and the processor architecture suffers greatly because of it. Also, I got the Acer. —ǥrɩɳsɧƿoɲ/ 04:14, 19 August 2007 (UTC)
You lost me. I just use an Athlon 64 on my desktop gaming rig because it's generally a better choice purely for gaming, which is what I needed. The Intel chip on my laptop doesn't really make a difference other then personal preference, as the laptop is purely for my graphic design needs and general use. Still, dual-core Pentium is impressive, and a free laptop is nothing to scoff at. You can probably run Guild Wars off that machine... well, depending, I suppose. GW runs great on my laptop, but you still suffer from more lag issues then a desktop, not to mention using a touch-pad interface is a pain. -- Jioruji Derako.> 08:09, 19 August 2007 (UTC)

Your sig[edit]

I personally don't think that your signature follows our sig policy, although input from other users might be good to have. I am referring to the fact that no one seeing your sig for the first time can even guess what your user name is, although signatures are required to identify the user. It doesn't even have your full user name in it, it's missing the m, and the font is very very hard to read. -- Gem (gem / talk) 00:38, 20 September 2007 (UTC)

Has been discussed already. — Skakid9090 00:46, 20 September 2007 (UTC)
Yes, I can see that. However, some users in that discussion directly said that they are not fully happy yet and I'm definitely not happy at all with this sig. -- Gem (gem / talk) 01:29, 20 September 2007 (UTC)
Your gem annoys me. Oh well. — Skakid9090 01:32, 20 September 2007 (UTC)
Nothing in the policy even slightly hints that my sig would be violating it so live with it or change the policy. (or quit posting poor jokes if that's one) -- Gem (gem / talk) 01:34, 20 September 2007 (UTC)
Who cares what his name is the first time they see him, they'll recognize him from his sig and/or look at his userpage. His isn't long, it doesn't disrupt text flow, and I actually LIKE sigs like that since it's easily recognizable. — Skakid9090 01:39, 20 September 2007 (UTC)
I actually had no clue what Gem's username was the first time I saw his sig. :p --Edru viransu 02:23, 20 September 2007 (UTC)
As I keep bringing it up, if you're not happy with GWW:SIGN (but you still must adhere to it), please post a question or change proposal on that policy's talk page, rather than going back and forth about it here. -- ab.er.rant sig 02:31, 20 September 2007 (UTC)
I find it amusing that my sig annoys Gem so he bitches and whines about it but when Skakid brings up that Gem's sig is annoying, he instantly becomes defensive and paranoid. Very very amusing. —ǥrɩɳsɧƿoɲ 02:35, 20 September 2007 (UTC)
I didn't see the 'defensive and paranoid' stuff. Lol at your interpretation of my words. You might not have noticed the discussions going elsewhere at the wiki at the same time Mgrinshpon, but Skakid was posting stupid jokes to multiple discussions and I was getting irritated by that, which explains the tone of my response to him. -- Gem (gem / talk) 09:33, 20 September 2007 (UTC)

Admins here and at GW[edit]

Your accusations here are as unsourced as they are wrong. You clearly have not looked at all the problems that GW had with admins. I do still remember the endless whining about noone being able to reign in trolling on the build pages, as I do the deletion of said section. How did the GW system prove to be superior there? Not at all. You also fail to realise that we do have working policies in place: You can be warned and banned for calling others "5 year old children" or calling the average contributer "retard". The only reason why you are not is because our current sysops chose not to enforce that policy with a ban yet. --Xeeron 14:44, 13 November 2007 (UTC)

I rest my case as proven by me not being banned. Wikis are not democracies, they are dictatorships, ruled by the select few who aren't half-wits. —ǥrɩɳsɧƿoɲ 20:36, 13 November 2007 (UTC)
The reason you are not banned is the application of the rules, not the rules. You respond by saying that this proves GW's rules are better. Does not prove anything to me. --Xeeron 21:52, 13 November 2007 (UTC)

Proxy Use[edit]

Please don't use proxy servers to sidestep a ban. They are used to positive purposes on the wiki and obvious abuse like this only adds fuel to the lobby trying to have proxy servers banned. I am not saying your use of proxy servers is with the intention to do harm, but it is undeniably provocative. I would like you to show that lobby that they are wrong and there is no need to ban proxy servers. 58.110.142.135 05:29, 29 December 2007 (UTC)

Positive use eh? Indeed. Why don't you just make sockpuppet accounts? It's no more shady than using proxies, and since your logic basically states the ends justify the means, it's a pretty win-win solution to your problem. -Auron 08:05, 29 December 2007 (UTC)

(Reset indent) The logical base of Tahril's point may be that the girls who frequently play on the computer usually spend less time taking care of their appearance. Fortunately this happens only to the most-addicted ones, who are not the majority, so Tahril is not right. --Boro 10px‎ 20:41, 8 February 2010 (UTC)

Gronchenstein is a name I've used on my characters. He is my investment banker, crusher of high-risk assets. A sensual crusher, even. His hammer has an outer layer of the finest velour known to mankind. But enough about this perfectly sculpted, pec-laden monster of a fiancier: onwards to discussing women and their role as central objects on gaming websites.
It is, without question, that humans are inherently tribal animals. A family is a tribe of sorts, with an alpha male and female (daddy and mommy, respectively, or your dad grew a vagina, then mommy and daddy, respectively) as are a group of friends. In any clique, there's a person who's most popular: he can be the alpha. This is much like how wolves work: the alpha male and female are in charge of the tribe and look after its survival. They lead the pack. There are wolves below the alphas in hierarchy and they are responsible for the day-to-day stuff: hunted, etc. And finally, there are the wolves in the dregs: taking care of the young, what have you.
To understand why e-women, no matter how beautiful or hideous they are, are objects of lust in the gaming world, you have to understand why most people play MMOs like this. Let's face it, the vast majority of people on this wiki are social and sexual failures- shy and socially awkward yet intelligent or outgoing and socially awkward yet retarded or even, shy and retarded. Perhaps, they're so fat, they can't get out of their chair, incapable of getting a girlfriend or if they are, incapable of getting one that doesn't look like one of those thingies Shiro summons in factions that explode and shit. Thusly, these social rejects go find a tribe that understands them. Welcome to GWW.
In this GWW tribe, there are also multiple "ranks" so to speak. I, for example, am supreme overlord. I tell people what to do and they generally do it. What do you think I have sitting in my email inbox right now? There are people below me: they're called bcrats and sysops. Below that, there are the unwashed, uneducated masses: that's all of you. What most of the people in these groups, regardless of their "level" on the wiki, is that they probably have asperger's syndrome. When a girl, something that most everyone here has trouble getting, comes on the wiki, they see it as their "chance." "Perhaps I can get into a realationship with this person because I'm completely incapable of getting into one in real life!" In fact, time spent on wikis and level of real life, social success is almost always inversely proportional. Just ask Skuld or even myself. When I was in 10th grade, I had a serious back problem that prevented me from playing sports or exercising, lowering my attractiveness quite a bit but I've since healed up a bit and use my sharp tongue and prince-like hair (will provide picture if requested) to get women in the area of Virginia and Maryland when I seldom visit the area.
So, in summation, are women om Guild Wars, Guild Wars Wiki, and most other online games ugly? Yes. But so are you, and you're a walking summary of why research for genetic screening to prevent autism (among other things like fibrosis and cancer) should be given funding by the government. —ǥrɩɳsɧƴɖɩđđɭɘş User Grinshpon blinky cake.gif 16:56, 11 February 2010 (UTC)
