Theorycraft with Norn Blessings[edit]
The blessings say that they remove all effects, whereas it looks as though all they really touch is your enchantments. You can make spirits, apply effects to other party members or enemies and whatnot and then switch to a blessing without that undoing any of it. You also recharge energy for a minute when using blessings, which essentially should give you full energy to burn through in a minute before using blessings again.
The question is, can you make worthwhile builds that use those mechanics, playing one minute as a normal build and one minute as a blessing? I'm not convinced that I've done so here...
Echoes[edit]
So you can have as many echoes active (and more than one on each party member) as you like, and they are not removed by entering Norn blessings. And using Volfen Bloodlust while in Volfen Blessing allows you to refresh refrains. Oh, and you get out of the blessings at full energy, so you can throw around a few overly expensive skills in the minute before the blessing recharges.
/ 12 Leadership
Volfen Blessing | Burning Refrain | Mending Refrain | Bladeturn Refrain | "They're on Fire!" | Optional | Optional | Optional |
Use a scythe to hit things in blessing, as it potentially triggers burning refrain a bit more.
- "There's Nothing to Fear!".
- Winds.
- Ebon Battle Standard of Honor.
- Ebon Battle Standard of Wisdom.
- Any Asura summon.
- Another feeder shout/chant to refresh the echoes in place of "They're on Fire!" such as Anthem of Weariness if running a physical team.
Partywide Burning Refrain causing burning for 1s (at 0 Leadership) could prove somewhat interesting if you add Fragility to the mix? Sticking that on your illusion mesmer will suddenly make even innocent wanding hit in excess of 50 damage to high health targets. Pity that Barrage is only adjacent, or that could make an exciting team build.
/ 12+1 Spawning Power, 12+3 Communing
Volfen Blessing | Burning Refrain | Anthem of Weariness | Anguish | Pain | Disenchantment | Optional | Optional |
- Great Dwarf Weapon for physicals. Knocklocking with extra random burning and maybe Fragility sounds fun.
- Ebon Battle Standard of Honor for more damage.
- Vampirism.
- Any Asura summon.
- Bladeturn Refrain (9+1 Spawning, 9 Command)
- Mending Refrain (9+1 Spawning, 9 Motivation)
Spirits[edit]
Or you could forget the echoes entirely, and go down the spirit heavy route. This should make you deal a pretty silly amount of damage, as half your spirits should last the full minute of Norn blessing. A high energy set is probably needed to spam the spirits in one go, unless you're Ranger or Elementalist primary.
12+4 Communing, 12+1 Spawning Power
Optional | Dissonance | Disenchantment | Pain | Shadowsong | Anguish | Optional | Optional |
First optional:
Last two:
- Vampirism is perhaps an obvious choice.
- Any other PvE skill listed above.
- Armor of Unfeeling
- Summon Spirits (Kurzick)
- / Or something a bit more weird...
- Cry of Pain
- Ether Nightmare (Kurzick)
- Arcane Mimicry if an ally has Signet of Ghostly Might.
- / Or something downright crazy and perhaps a bit stupid... (9+1 Spawning, 9+1 Fire Magic)
There must be something more imaginative that you can do... Loggy (talk) 18:14, 6 April 2014 (UTC)

This may have severe energy problems. Oh well. Pity I have no mercs to try it.

Why?[edit]
QZ stacks with Mesmer FC which should make ESurge, Ineptutide and all those Mesmer toys recharge in ~3-5 seconds, but at the cost of (probably) needing a BiP on the team. EoE should add yet more damage, but is probably best avoided when fighting other humans. This team should pack a ludicrous amount of damage, but with the BiP saccing away might well have healing problems. One little bonus is ST will get the QZ recharge bonus for twice as many protective spirity friends. Hopefully the other skills will pick up where ESurge leaves off, perhaps most notably baby non-elite unconditional Discord to pick off stragglers.
QZ also should buff the Norn blessing skills with no drawbacks. Here I'm assuming Volfen Bloodlust affects spirits for +33% IAS (so +50% damage), which makes it a baby SoGM as well as allowing the player to actually do something with the other skills against melee foes (due to the shout's tiny radius, it won't be worth moving far away). If that doesn't work, Ursan would be the better choice. Obviously recharges will make using the blessing for all fights impossible as you can't summon spirits without reverting back to normal skills (so then you've got to wait for the blessing to come back), but it's hopefully a nice touch for painful places.
All in all, this probably won't have the survivability to do the painful elite areas, but might be faster for easier HM areas where blowing everything up as fast as possible is the way to go. Or maybe set up spirits and just C+space if you're feeling sleepy.
