Walkthrough to complete The Fissure of Woe (FoW) and get the Chest of Woe.

Preview[edit]

Regular access cost 1Platinum, but is free during weekly bonus (Pantheon Weekly Bonus in 8 weeks).

This area must be done at once: leaving it (on purpose or not) will reset your progress. You may be forced to leave if:

  • whole team die: there are no Resurrection Shrine here
  • a quest fail, mainly due to major NPC death
  • connection issue

There are 11 quests to be done to 'complete' the area. It may take around 2 hours, but could take up to 3 or 4. You do not need to accept all quests rewards to complete the area. All quests are rewarding only experience.

This is the only place where you can craft Obsidian armor, but it will first require some (not all) quests completion.

This route plan to prioritize quests unlocking access to Obsidian Armor, trying to optimize effort needed for area completion.

Note that you'll find non locked chests that drops ONE purple item for a RANDOM party member. You may want to flag heroes out of compass before opening.

Related Zaishen bounties:

  • Lord Khobay (point 12 in walkthrough): ZBounty in 13 days
  • Priest of Menzies (point 17 in walkthrough, could be done in 3): ZBounty in 21 days
  • One Dragon Lich (point 3 in walkthrough): ZBounty in 29 days

Following numbered points on the map:

  • 0: spawn point. Beware to mobs patroling near this spot if you need to prepare your team first. Do NOT take the quest from Rastigan yet.
  • 1: clear mobs north and mainly south of you spawn point without aggroing any Abyssal or Shadow Ranger, or Rastigan will run forward and probably die.
  • 2: clear groups around the Tower of Courage. Rastigan will join the fight but you should be able to protect him now. Rastigan will open the tower gate and mobs will spawn in it. Take the quest Tower of Courage that you actually just did (quest 1), then take the next quest for later.
  • 3*: (optional) head north to the Great Battle Field and clear it beware of regular pop, from east to west. You may want to trigger some mobs pop on Priest of Menzies location while he did not spawn.
  • 4: on the west side of the Great Battle Field, around the camp, there is a group of shadow mobs. Killing it will make a couple of NPC appear. Take quests Army of Darkness from Kromril the Eternal (for later) and The Eternal Forgemaster from Eternal Weaponsmith.
  • 5: move toward Temple of War. Clear mob in front of the gate and beware to the incoming mobs behind you (fight them or rush in the temple ignoring them). Enter the temple and carefully clear groups on the first floor all around, then clear the last foes on the top of the temple to complete the quest (quest 2). The Eternal Forgemaster appears.
  • 6: take the quest Defend the Temple of War. Enemies will come by pairs so no need to rush, although they may take their time to move. Forgemaster must survive. Once done (quest 3), other NPC appears in the temple. South gate of temple is now open, you can defeat the group on this side and take care of incoming group right after, as for the north entrance.
  • 7*: (optional) you may want to head south toward the Spider Cave to clear it in advance to make next step a bit easier. Move carefully as spiders will often pop and make your way up to the waterfall bordering the Fissure Shore. Beware at this spot as many groups will spawn.
  • 8: in the Temple, take both quests from Forgemaster and the one from Eternal Lord Taeres. You will focus on quest Restore the Temple of War first.
  • 9: take quest The Hunt from Nimros the Hunter: Shard Wolves will spawn at different location in the area, you will kill them while doing the other quests. A first spawn in right behind you.
  • 10: clear the Spider Cave from Seeds of Corruption that spawn with the Forgemaster's quest (quest 4). Sneak to the Shore to kill the second Shard Wolf there.

At this point, you can go back to Forgemaster and validate your quest, he will offer you to craft Obsidian armor.

  • 11: head north toward the Tower of Strengh for the associated quest. Cautiously clear the zone up to the tower, you'll find multiple patrols overlaping and spawns. Be sure to kill the 5 Shadow Patrols. A third Shard Wolf will be there as well. Go back toward Temple of War to trigger the Tower Mage route, that will wait for you before the tower.
  • 12: in the meantime, move south-east to the Lake of Fire for the Khobay the Betrayer quest. You can pull Khobay's group (or hopefully boss only) away from the last wurm if needed. Killing him will complete the quest (quest 5).
  • 13: go back to Tower of Strength. After the NPC opened the tower, kill the last mob that will spawn inside to complete the quest (quest 6).
  • 14: move north to find Miko the Unchained and clear patrol that are wandering here.
  • 15*: (optional) without Miko's quest, cautiously clear the Burning Forest, at least the main path to the end of the zone. There are multiple patrols overlapping, and any seemingly isolated mob is actually grouped with mixed foes. A fourth Shard Wolf is found here.
  • 16: get back to Miko and take his quest, then kill the 4 groups that appeared at the back of the Forest (quest 7). If you did not clear the zone, you may sneak to the right but do not forgot the Wolf.
  • 17: head west, back to the Great Battle Field. Go north to complete the quest you took at point 3 by killing the Priest of Menzies. You may pull its group away first then engage the lonely boss, or possibly pull the boss directly from below the cliff. He will drop a quest item you need to give back to the NPC (quest 8). On your way, you'll find a fifth Shard Wolf to kill.
  • 18: move west toward the Forest of the Wailing Lord for The Wailing Lord quest you received at point 2. Note that the zone will include an seemingly hostile foe, the Wailing Lord, but that must NOT be harmed. Clear the zone, without crossing the bridge leading to the Wailing Lord. A sixth Shard Wolf can be killed here, in north part, that could be pulled from main path. Be sure to clean the main path and south part, north is not needed.
  • 19: Carefully pull Banshees across the bridge, without harming the Wailing Lord. You can enter in Wailing Lord aggro zone, he will not attack you, but beware to have heroes flagged further. Try to pull out skeletons across the bridge as well. After you kill them all, the Wailing Lord will turn friendly and Shadow Beasts will spawns. You can validate the quest (quest 9) and take A Gift of Griffons. For this one you'll need to escort Griffons to Tower of Courage.
  • 20*: (optional) as Griffons may be killed easily, you may want to make your way to Tower of Courage without them and quietly fight the hostile groups that appeared with this quest. This is safer but take a little bit more time. Griffons should stand still until you approach them but sometimes they rush to you right away. In this case, you may need to flag your heroes forward and let them deal with the fights, while you keep Griffons safe.
  • 21: approach the Griffons so they start following you. Lead them to Rastigan to complete the quest (quest 10).
  • 22: the seventh and last Shard Wolf will be found just south of the tower. Kill him to complete the last quest (quest 11).

At this point, even without getting quests rewards yet, FoW is completed! Make your way back to Temple of War to open the Chest of Woe. You can pick up quests rewards and resign.
