RoJ...overpowered?

Since RoJ had made major change, I've noticed that the AI does not recognize it as an DoTAoE spell. As fun as it is, I was wondering if ANet is going to make some changes so the AI does recognize it. I was asking this because what if I do some vanquishing with my h/h and they fail to recognize the RoJ as an AoE spell and they get wiped. Also, does the team have plans to make a PvP version of RoJ, since using a warrior in PvP, I'm usually smart enough to avoid this damaging spell. However, I feel that RoJ is too powerful in PvP (happens to be more damaging than Meteor Shower if I recall). Also, I've recently created a PvP monk and test several different builds (including RoJ hybrid for Jade Quarry). I was wondering if you think RoJ is too overpowered--Dark Paladin X 04:06, 8 June 2009 (UTC)

The design team is aware of the RoJ AI/scatter issue. Many players have been discussing this with me for a while now, and I've been delivering your comments to the dev team. All I can say is that they know about it, but I can't tell you when they intend to change it. --Regina Buenaobra User Regina Buenaobra sig.png 21:36, 11 June 2009 (UTC)
And I guess the "We shall return" was more important than this. Boro 10px‎ 06:25, 14 June 2009 (UTC)
No it either means given the time they spend fixing bugs RoJ hasn't been figured out yet (possible but no too likely) or they like that monks have a skill > PvE (more likely). In any case I'm sure Regina can tell you don't like the bug, as well as half the wiki, so reminding everyone a few times each week isn't necessary.~>Sins WDBUser The Sins We Die By Sig.png 06:40, 14 June 2009 (UTC)
It's very easy. It's the same they did to all AoEDoT spells after the game started. They just have to add ray of judgment to the list for monster AI. Boro 10px‎ 09:37, 14 June 2009 (UTC)

Tournament Rewards

Hi Regina - would you happen to know what day of the month (or there about) tournament rewards are usually pushed out? I can never seem to remember from month to month. Thanks in advance! Pkohler01 23:22, 10 June 2009 (UTC)

Nerf to Keg Farming

I am curious as to why Arenanet waited until now to fix the way in which the NPC functioned. I asked "Why now?" on the update page but I thought I'd throw it out here since I don't see anyway developer update notes on the matter (yet) 000.00.00.00 00:04, 12 June 2009 (UTC)

My question is more like : "WHY?". It's a unique way. And there are so many other ways to farm anyway. The farm code also makes it sure you don't get that many drops! (since you kill so fast). I don't see why they nerf this instead of all the other farms. Ele's and derv's can still farm them anyway :'( --User Karasu sig.png Karasu (talk) 00:25, 12 June 2009 (UTC)
All I have to ask now is, yay for more grind? I was doeing this so I could max my Wisdom title track. But yeah I guess they think people are gonna play longer now, they should think twice. But I saw it coming, they have been nerving easy farms since the beginning, but now the game is just getting very tedious, it's all taking to frigin long. If I find a better game i'll play it but for now i'll stick to GW.
Word of advice to Anet, next time if there is a flaw like this in the game, fix it asap so people don't get used to it, all you are doeing by keeping something broken in the game for so long is when you do fix it, is piss people off. This was already "part of the game" for many who had not much to do in GW anymore and just wanted to finish some titles or just farm. Give us more options instead of taking some away. User Qaletaqa sig icon.jpg Qaletaqa Hania 00:33, 12 June 2009 (UTC)
000.00.00.00: the team felt that this issue needed to be addressed, and so they addressed it. Not everything can be fixed immediately because there are a lot of competing priorities for our team's time. There are a lot of outstanding bugs in the game, for example, and some players have the opinion that certain bugs should be fixed over others.
Qaletaqa: Thank you for sharing your feelings and comments about this. --Regina Buenaobra User Regina Buenaobra sig.png 00:49, 12 June 2009 (UTC)
Np Regina, i'm just annoyed by it because it's now gonna take alot longer for me to max the wisdom title track and I got used to doeing some Keg farming runs now and then but now it's gone, and all the other ways of getting more golds are tedious. PvP'ing to get Zaishen Keys to open the Zaishen chest is boring, I don't like PvP atm. Chest running is alot more boring, and playing thru the game I have done enough, so yeah.... it's starting to get really tedious. User Qaletaqa sig icon.jpg Qaletaqa Hania 01:10, 12 June 2009 (UTC)
Perhaps the designers did not intend for you to do the same thing repetitively for the sole purpose of gaining a meaningless reward? --click moar Mafaraxas 01:27, 12 June 2009 (UTC)
That raises questions about the intelligence of implementing said meaningless reward...
But I didn't come here to be negative. I was going to suggest that you roll a monk and learn a simple dungeon run. Unidentified golds are only around 700 gold per, so you'd be able to buy them in bulk pretty fast. It might be even faster than the keg farming. As for a good spot to buy them, Rata Sum typically has low prices and high availability from all the raptorfarmers. User Raine R.gif Raine - talk 01:46, 12 June 2009 (UTC)
Though after this update I'd expect the prices for unID golds to go up (and for festival items, too, since that was when the Budger farm was used the most. Especially party items will probably skyrocket since ANet has failed so far to provide these through normal merchants (yes, I know, you can get them with Zoins)). User Xelonir sig.pngXelonir 08:51, 12 June 2009 (UTC)
@Mafaraxas. You wanna talk about meaningless? ok. Life is meaningless, everything we do is meaningless. You can start about how future generations can benefit from the things we do but they will die to. At one point in the future, famous or not, everyone will be forgotten, for some it will take longer before they are forgotten but eventually they will be. All I want in this meaningless life is to do as many meaningless things I can, meaningless working, meaningless breathing, meaningless walking and talking, have some meaningless fun by having some meaningless rewards in a meaningless game. I might think everything is meaningless but I love my life and everything else that is meaningless. Meaningless is meaningless to me.
A meaningless thing is something you dont care about. What was it you were complaining about already ? Yseron - 90.15.181.33 11:41, 12 June 2009 (UTC)

@Raine Valen. Lol, roll a monk, funny. But I have one and I can 600 with it, I also have enough gold to buy Unid golds so thats not the problem. I wanna be able to do it by myself without having to buy from other players, and I liked Keg farming. User Qaletaqa sig icon.jpg Qaletaqa Hania 02:25, 12 June 2009 (UTC)
I think the best answer can be gotten from Shadow Form itself. It clearly states that you deal less damage while it's active. The kegs allow you to bypass that restriction so they got nerfed. 145.94.74.23 06:16, 12 June 2009 (UTC)
But shadow form wasn't!!!!!!!!!! Boro 10px‎ 06:34, 12 June 2009 (UTC)
Actually, keg damage is still reduced by shadow form (they do 50 without SF up, and 33 with). They just still do enough (and knocklock all the enemies while they're at it) to make it an extremely efficient farm. ¬ Wizårdbõÿ777(talk) 06:47, 12 June 2009 (UTC)
You know, I was hesitating for 10 minutes trying to decide what adjective to use, knowing that someone would pull the bullshit relativism card; I eventually gave up hoping that noone would. You know what I mean - there is effectively no benefit in game to maxing treasure hunter; if you want to salvage something off an item without risking the item you're going to use a perfect salvage kit, not spend ridiculous amounts of time identifying gold items. --click moar Mafaraxas 09:10, 12 June 2009 (UTC)

I wasn't going to put my 2 cents in here, but I've decided to after listening to all sides. First, Anet has some real bad timing. The main issue is this: you leave something broken for months and then all of a sudden, you fix it. The result: people rely on that broken mechanic (so much so that everyone does it) and then out of the blue when you fix it, you piss people off who have relied on this broken game mechanic for so long. More people stop playing. Second, Anet isn't proactive. You leave GW1 hanging and send everyone except 4 people over on that project. Then you expect those 4 people to pacify those left playing GW1. Then when they fail and everyone is knocking at your door with pitchforks and torches you decide to 'hire' some more help. Updates get pushed back, deadlines are met late, problems are left unresolved for months, and best of all the people playing feel like Anet no longer cares about them. Understand, I am not downing Linsey, Regina, Martin or any of the GW live team. They have done the best with what they are given. I'm downing their employer who seems to fail to understand basic buisiness practices such as keeping the customer happy so they will come back and buy more from you. If you don't keep the customer happy, then how can you expect them to purchase any other of your products (ie. Aeon or GW2). A wise person once said "People vote with their feet". Over the past year and a half, I have seen so many people stop playing GW1 for so many reasons, but the main ones are the above mentioned. I'm sorry to say that I'm moving in the direction of not playing GW1 anymore. There isn't much left for me to do in the game. Nothing new seems to be around the corner. And I'll probably get the "Thanks for your money, but we really don't care." bit from Anet. With that said, I'm voting no to buying Aeon or GW2 until some serious personelle changes are done at Anet or they grow a heart and start caring about their customer. Regina please feel free to forward this message to whomever you feel appropriate. Understand I'm not downing you, but as community manager, I felt it necessary to post this here, so it would get to the appropriate persons. Good luck with what's left of GW1, I won't be buying any more product from Anet and I'm not alone. 66.227.228.53 14:44, 12 June 2009 (UTC) Jacin Nomin

Aion is a game by NCSoft, the company that publishes Guild Wars; ArenaNet developed Guild Wars. NCSoft has nothing to do with how ArenaNet handles their game, and ArenaNet has nothing to do with how NCSoft handles its game. Refusing to buy Aion because ArenaNet messed up guild wars is like refusing to buy a wii because you didn't like the PS2. ¬ Wizårdbõÿ777(talk) 17:43, 12 June 2009 (UTC)

To all those who are upset about the keg nerf. The right approach to farms is to (1) enjoy it while it lasts, and (2) expect it to be nerfed *eventually*. This is the reason I have yet to make an assassin despite all the wonderful farms for it, because (1) I don't personally enjoy the profession (not bad, just not for me), and (2) I expect permaform to be nerfed eventually, and when it is, I'd end up with a wasted character slot. Instead, I focus on farms using characters I play anyway. Nerfing is an important part of protecting the economy, reducing the gap between poor & rich, and making normal play less of a waste of time economically. Besides, there's plenty of ways to get good income outside of keg farms. Run zmissions for example. -- Alaris_sig Alaris 17:57, 12 June 2009 (UTC)

First of all Alaris, that is the kind of canned response I'd expect from you. You misunderstood what I said and read between the lines too much. I am not upset that keg farming is nerfed. I'm upset that it wasn't nerfed right away like most things used to be, so that players don't become dependant on a broken game mechanic and get ticked and leave after it is nerfed 5 months later than it should have been. On the flip side of the coin it ticks players off who have worked hard to earn their money only to see it get devalued in game by a broken game mechanic that should have been fixed 5 months ago. The point is that GW1 doesn't recieve the attention it should for those of us who paid good money for the game and continue to fill Anets coffers with the recent update. Most who have played this game since the beginning will tell you that in the past GW1 had frequent and predictable updates. Broken game mechanics were dealt with quicker and skill balances (however poorly they went) were attempted more often to balance the game. Now all we see is silent stonewalling from the community managers, no updates on GW2 even if it were a concept art book every so often to whet our appetite for a game that is yet to be released, and just plain apathy from players of GW1 who are tired of being yanked around by Anet's empty promises that aren't even kept half the time. This is the kind of stuff that causes players to stop playing GW1 and move to a competetor MMORG. Speaking as a buisiness person with a vast knowledge of buisiness, this is poor buisiness strategy. As I said before and this will always be true: Customer's vote with their feet and I have placed my vote 66.227.228.53 02:05, 13 June 2009 (UTC)Jacin Nomin

Dragon Festival 2009

First off, Hai Regina! Haven't met you yet so I had to say it. :D Anyways, I have a simple question and hopefully you can answer it. I know you've all probably started working on the upcoming Dragon Festival 2009. I'm not looking for hints on updates or what the mask will be but I would like to know if it will be dyeable. It seems the past 2 years none of the masks can be dyed. Most of the masks in my opinion have been pretty good but don't compare to masks created years ago. Hopefully you can answer this and thanks for reading. :) Magic User Magic Signature Ico.jpg Talk 07:29, 17 June 2009 (UTC)

You should know by now the mask is super top secret until it is presented during the first finale event. Asking for hints on updates is going to get you no where. I would think that the fact that no mask has been dyeable for the past several years would lead one to believe this one won't be either. I think it has something to do with the amount of art and programming that is necessary to make an item dyeable that makes it unfeasible. --Wyn's Talk page Wyn 08:28, 17 June 2009 (UTC)

Delayed Skill Update

Regina, you may have answered this somewhere else, but I'm wondering why the skill update was delayed. I understand that you guys had to delay the XTH points because of the new system, but why did the skills get delayed? I'm assuming that it's not for the same reason as the points (considering they're two entirely different things), so could you give me some idea what the Live Team was thinking? Karate Jesus 14:52, 12 June 2009

Nvm, I was just reading on Guru and you state there that you can't say anything. The last few updates have been handled so poorly.... Karate Jesus 15:42, 12 June 2009

However how can one ask the why of something being delayed without knowing the when in the first place? Without the when, something can't be delayed, which I think is Wyn's point. That aside however, it was disappointing to have no skill update this month, a tiny skill update last month and no skill update the month before that. :( -- Salome User salome sig2.png 16:50, 12 June 2009 (UTC)

Yes, Regina's FAQ page was created this morning, I was simply bringing it to attention since it seemed to cover the topic, and I doubted that anyone had taken the time to read it yet, or the revised posting rules at the top of this page that direct people to it. Your point? --Wyn's Talk page Wyn 18:23, 12 June 2009 (UTC)
My point is the dodging of responsibility within the statement. Every instance of a monthly update "may occur". If everything in a "monthly" update might occur then obviously updates aren't actually monthly, since one month all of those things just might not happen.~>Sins WDBUser The Sins We Die By Sig.png 18:45, 12 June 2009 (UTC)

Hello GWW, to start off, people may consider this a flame post but I just had to type it down. I've never felt as disappointed in being a Guild Wars player as I do right now. I've played the game since release and I've been observing recent changes and dev updates (way more than I've ever done). For those of you who did play Guild Wars back in the old days can probably understand what I mean if I say "The game is just getting worse". I think ANet created something beautiful and a one of a kind experience and now they're ruining it. Every 1st or 2nd Thursday I'm waiting for the almight update that will get me hooked but I'm starting to realise - a game that does not bring in that much money (I don't know this for a fact, it's just what I think) is not getting any support. Guild Wars game-mechanics require balance, real bad, which makes an unbalanced build really, really painful. I play GvG quite a lot (not in the higher ranks) and the meta is what it is, compared to previous metas this one is not THAT bad, but (here it comes), there are still way too many broken skills and even more unused skills. Their initial idea with Guild Wars was to release new content every 6th month or so, what I'm asking is - what's the point with new proffessions and skills if you're not going to support them? (I won't keep naming skills for long) Exampels: Paragon & Ritualist, first of all, yes I do know they are used to a certain degree in the game but lets be honest, they are the most useless and unsupported proffessions in the game. I'm a player that knows a lot of skills (and my main character being a Ritualist) but I don't even know half of the paragon and ritualist elites, what I do know about them is that they suck (This might not be a good argument but in this case it certainly is). The PvE side on the other hand is really bad, I'm not going into details but there's one single skill that's so (insert word here, I can't really find one that fits), the skill is ofcourse Shadow Form. People can say "Don't ruin the fun for those who use it" and many other comments that I've read past months, but the fact is that it's overpowered. What I want an answer on is: When you first made Guild Wars did you intend to make a skill that made you PERMANENTLY invunrable (I know a few skills go through)? In a MMO this is purely ridiculous, I was considering getting the skills needed for my Assassin and join up using a extremly broken but yet so vital (right word?) part of the current PvE meta but I just couldn't. To me this skill ruins all that Guild Wars is and I've never felt so betrayed by a game-mechanic. I know a lot of you don't agree with me but if you look beyond those ectos you farm and you ridiculous ammount of cash you've made from UWSC you can't say that SF is balanced. Ok, enough of that, lets move on. If you read just a few posts up you may have noticed reginas "We know you want answers, but the fact is that we are not cleared to share every detail of what is going on.", feels like we've been getting that a lot recently. I do understand that it does not work the way the customer wants it to and that you cannot share the information that you probably want to, however, to me it feels like you have to take a close look at your buisness model because it does not make the cut for me. Two days ago I was really excited to wake up reading through the skillbalance update, but there was none, the night before I was reading through all dev posts I could find but nothing about delaying skillbalance. If you're pulling this trick on us again warn us (just had to get that out of the way). The other thing I have to mention is - even though your buisness model does not allow you to give us any information you really, really should consider doing so. I've never been playing a game where the devs are such (insert word) and secret about stuff. I'm giving Guild Wars a few months them I'm expecting a lot of you hardcore players to leave. I've got a similar event that took place not that long ago, it's a game that I truly love, the game is Gears of War 2. I got this game on the release date and very soon I started to realise that the game was broken in many ways (no need to explain here, lets just leave it at extremly broken). The devs were quiet for quite a long time before they began to realise their reputation was on the line. Then I started to see miracle posts all over the place, from devs explaining exactly what they were doing and most importantly: they were aware of the problems and a ETA. I was getting my hopes up a lot and they actually made it, it's nowhere near perfect but they turned it. I've been expecting this from Guild Wars for a long time but it has been too long very, very soon. I've lost all my faith in Guild Wars, although I can't let this game go, 4 years is a long time... I'm not expecting any answers on this post, I don't even know why I asked because to me it's a lost fight already. All I want to do is make devs read this and I hope they understand how deeply disappointed I am, I can't describe it with words. At this moment I don't even know if Guild Wars 2 is going to be an option for me, that's how disappointed I am. I've been looking forward to that game since I first got through pre-searing 4 years ago. To end this post I have a few notes 1st: Yes, I do know my english is not perfect and that I cannot always express myself the way I want but I'm not born in a english speaking country. 2nd: You can discuss this post but there's no point in trying to prove me wrong, either you agree or disagree, everything said here is 100% true according to me and that's it. Everyone, please quit blasting the community managers/support people. They know that Anet fails, but they CANNOT DO ANYTHING ABOUT IT. Yelling at them won't accomplish anything as they don't handle the coding and skill balances. Oh my god, use paragraphs sometime in your life. ~Shard User Shard Sig Icon.png 00:04, 13 June 2009 (UTC)
How about some real constructive input, Shard? Or are you going to keep trolling and flaming until you're banned from the wiki as well? --The preceding unsigned comment was added by User:72.43.62.68 (talk).
First of all, no I didn't use paragraphs, sorry. I do know this will change nothing, all I wanted to do is share my opinion, if you don't like it it's fine with me but I think and hope that a lot of people agree. At some point, when customers are so unsatisfied they'll have to make some sort of change. "Everyone, please quit blasting the community managers/support people. They know that Anet fails, but they CANNOT DO ANYTHING ABOUT IT." that's another opinion, you shared yours and I share mine, don't really see your point there. If customers had no impact or cannot do anything about the product the product have failed. All we can do is try to make them realise that before they failed totaly. Atleast that's my opinion. I hope that all of you atleast see some sort of truth in my text wall (without paragraphs :P), that's all I wanted. I want the whole Guild Wars community to say "No, we won't take it no more" (even though I know this will never happen) because that could change the way things work. Shmutt 00:29, 13 June 2009 (UTC)
Yelling at Anet, particularly at the support team, will not accomplish anything. The only way to get Anet to listen is if their revenue drops, therefore if you want Anet to improve, everyone needs to stop buying anything from them for a while. --The preceding unsigned comment was added by User:72.43.62.68 (talk).

Fine, here's the constructive part: Use paragraphs and people will read your crap. ~Shard User Shard Sig Icon.png 02:24, 13 June 2009 (UTC)
Additional constructive Advice: Keeping your TL;DR rambling Brief and Concise removes the need for paragraphs in the first place. Don't repeat the same point twice or fill your rants with trumped up claims most ppl couldn't give a damn about. --ilr 03:41, 13 June 2009 (UTC)

Shmutt: First of all, thank you for taking the time to write all of that. It sounds like you, like so many other fans, have truly strong feelings about the game and all the times you've had playing the game. I know that you may not agree with everything we do, but we do still value and appreciate your input and criticism. I know at this point, judging from your message, that you feel dejected and disappointed, and your hopes for GW2 are at a low. Right now, with the studio deep in development on GW2 and with us sticking to your information release schedule, I know it seems like there's nothing for you to get excited about. Everything is a mystery right now for the public. As fans, yes the mystery and the suspense is probably killing you. But don't worry, we won't let it get to the point that it actually does. ;-) Seriously though, information will be coming. Just hang in there. As for GW1, I'm told that specific skill balacing is not something we discuss ahead of time, but I can see at least a couple of things in your message that are being considered for the future.
213.114.166.71: As a reminder, I am not the community manager, I am a community manager. I've never been the only one working in Community for GW; there is a team. You guys taking applications for one of those jobs atm? ~>Sins WDBUser The Sins We Die By Sig.png 02:13, 14 June 2009 (UTC)
I'd just like to being Eye of the North to your attention. Even before release, there was a lot of discussion about some of the skills that were being released; people were saying things like, "Well, no one would ever use that," "That might be a little too strong," etc. While some of that information was incorrect (100% accuracy isn't to be expected based on theorycraft), a lot of things did, in fact, turn out as predicted. Things like Aneurysm aren't in play for the same reasons outlined on the talk page, as an example.
Now, I bring this up for two reasons. Firstly, that was a lot of content discussed before release; has policy changed between then and now? If so, would you be at liberty to discuss why the policy was changed so? Secondly, I use this as an example to strengthen my claim that community involvement is a good thing. However, in spite of that, we've been largely shut out of the process as of late (by which, I mean "for a long time"). Is there some benefit to this that I'm not considering, or is there simply some detrimental technicality that prevents disclosure?
Thanks in advance, Regina, for your reply. User Raine R.gif Raine - talk 02:23, 14 June 2009 (UTC)
In the past, for new content we've done preview weekends and sometimes we have changed skills over a weekend and then reverted those changes after gathering play data, and kept an eye on community discussion and feedback. We've also done Profession previews on the website, giving an overview of new, upcoming skills, and monitored community discussion and feedback about that, too. For existing content, it has been a little different in that we don't have those preview events for maintenance updates. We do understand your points, and this has been a topic of discussion in the Live Team recently. What I can say at this point is: we're listening, we understand, and... stay tuned... ;-)--Regina Buenaobra User Regina Buenaobra sig.png 00:03, 18 June 2009 (UTC)
Would you consider doing previews (preview weekends, maybe?) for upcoming skill changes? The update in which you (by which I mean ANet, not you, specifically) buffed several elite skills comes to mind. If players had had a chance to playtest some of the skills on a sort of trial basis before the actual implementation, some things (like the retroactive nerfs to Palm Strike, Lingering Curse, Recurring Insecurity, and Mark of Insecurity) would have been easier to forsee, which could potentially save several people work in the long run.
In any case, I'm curious as to why the support for new (or upcoming, as the case may be) content was toned down. Was it simply a matter of expense, or was it seen as unnecessary? I can't claim to speak for everyone, but I do think that many would agree with me if I were to say that an update system more similar to what was previously in place would be better for Guild Wars (or, at the very least, the PvP side).
Thank you, once again, for your responses. I appreciate your time. User Raine R.gif Raine - talk 00:23, 18 June 2009 (UTC)
Stay Tuned?? The updates seem to get smaller every month, The Live team even sharing skill balances with Izzy in the future is tentative at best, and we never got any assurance the new suggestion namespace will even be Read by the live team (who'd still have to do it on their own time as far as we know). So unless the new Designer they're trying to hire is specifically going to double as a conduit from the Community for Skill feedback ...there's no foreseeable Resources even available to "stay tuned" for. Removing heroes from HA/GVG

Are you sure you want to do this So_What_Are_We_Doing_at_the_Moment.3F_-_19_June_2009? I predict that sales of Guild Wars Nightfall and Guild Wars Eye of the North will go down substantially if heroes are removed from PVP. You ought to reconsider. Loves to Sync 02:49, 24 June 2009 (UTC)

From my point of view only Hero Battles should have heroes in them. PvP is the format that is, as the name suggestions, player vs player, not player vs AI (well, bar Hero Battles), it's any improvement to remove the AI from any format that doesn't need it. ~~000.00.00.00~~ 02:54, 24 June 2009 (UTC)

The problem is when there are certain skills (and other things) which break the (PvE)game in a huuuge level, it's not very balanced by any way. Similiarly, skills which punish you for playing the game are pretty bad for balance. Mediggo 06:57, 24 June 2009 (UTC)
It's the PvE which sells the game in the first place, but PvP makes you an addict. That's what happens to most people in most mmorpgs (and the like). Mediggo 06:57, 24 June 2009 (UTC)

Now that there are ZQuests to encourage people visit GvG and HA, there is no need to keep heroes to fill gaps. Does the PvP Zaishenz offer us anything we can't already get in PvE? ...No. And why should we bother with PvP given the bad wrap it gets here? All too often we hear reports of Match-Rigging, Title-Requirements, and "BuildWars". We don't have to put up with any of that BS when we do a bunch of mission/bounty runs with H/H's in PvE, infact we can use every Alt we have which is a lot more entertaining than being stuck in an Arena format where only 1 or 2 of our Alts would even stand a Chance against a bunch of elite Gankers who are only there to Farm us for Rank... No no no my friend, screw that. The only way you'll get most PvE'ers into that Ring is if you give them a Stack of HoneyCombs or some other awesome Consumables JUST FOR LOSING that they can use later in PvE to salvage a bad run. Hey Regina, since the Dragon Festival is coming up, I was wondering if you have anything special for us for the event. Why does it matter if Nine Rings is fun or not? You're AFK... I just didn't like the fact that both were only limited to the event, and I had to choose between Gamer and a fast track of Lucky/Unlucky points. Gamer should be available a little bit more often... Like how you can earn Lucky/Unlucky from Lockpicks. It's VERY SLOW, but it's always there. Gamer points are basically mutually exclusive with anyone who has any kind of friends or family on holidays. What's even worse is that other countries (e.g. Asia, Russia) don't observe most of the holidays and don't have to compromise between Gamer and family on those events, while we do. That's just not fair... *cries* User Rose Of Kali SIG.jpgRose Of Kali 16:40, 25 June 2009 (UTC)

(Reset indent) If Dragon Festival or Canthan New Year will ever get an expansion of "where" it is, it will still be in the continent of Cantha - or in LA/Kamadan (maybe in Kryta/Istan for some reason). If those two event expand - which remember, CNY did not so no reason why the Dragon Festival should - it will probably include Kaineng City, the Kurzicks and/or the Luxons. Not much more. Halloween, on the other hand, can be brought to EN or anywhere else in Tyria and Elona. But in some cases that is true, you don't see other countries celebrating July 4th as the United States of America's Independence Day besides the USA. Why? Because it means something for us that it doesn't mean for other nations, and the Dragon Festival is the same way. It is not Christmas/Wintersday where it is a universal holiday shared by pretty much every country, it's a holiday to celebrate Shing Jea Island being established and the Dragon Empire staying around following the Jade Wind. It has pretty much nothing what-so-ever to do with Ascalon or Elona because neither of those nations were involved in any way, partly because as is Cantha seems distant from the other 2 nations (and becomes more so in GW2 from what we know). They are very protective of their heritage and seem to not really trust outsiders much (again, especially in GW2), not surprising considering they have difficulties trusting themselves with the KvL conflict. To me, it doesn't seem like a Canthan would be eager to even do a "mini event" in a foreign homeland, they'd probably retreat back to Cantha for the festival, or more than likely celebrate alone or with their friends privately. I know it's not your fault that guild wars has been an insane lagfest, but is there any acknowlegement that it exists? This isn't just because of the XTH update. Are there server issues? It surely can't be everyone's internet connection @ the same time. I'm not accusing you of being fault for it, I just think some players might like a server status update. --adrin User adrin ecto sig.png 03:13, 27 June 2009 (UTC)

Though I never seem to have this lag, maybe 10-15 times in the last 4 years, several within my alliance seem to be complaining about it. Even if it isn't on GW side, it would be nice to see some update on it. Even if it is an issue somewhere in the "world" network. Kanna June 27th 2009 05:47 UTC
I have no lag problems whatsoever and nobody in my guild seems to suffer from it either. 145.94.74.23 05:58, 27 June 2009 (UTC)
Since the April update my guild & alliance mates, whom are all over the world, are reporting periodic episodes of lag. These spikes range from 5-20 seconds in length. Doesn't matter what server, or region, or time of day. These spikes occur often enough to be annoying, and sometimes lead to 007 and disconnects. Most times, resuming is possible. This excludes the obvious situation of being in an outpost like Spamadan. Mar Talk Master 07:17, 27 June 2009 (UTC)
Typically most people who don't experience the same issue that everyone else is complaining about, aren't actually online for the 5 to 6 hour cycle required to experience it. There have been too many discussions on this and we havent heard anything from Anet yet. The lag is about 75% server side. The rest of the people are doing something else with their internet, have too many programs open or just have a sub par connection. I have stated on somebody elses page that Anet has outgrown their servers and they can no longer handle the load. It would be nice to hear something official about this situation, but we probably wont ever get one.Talk page Drogo Boffin 21:16, 28 June 2009 (UTC)
Several times already I've experience repeated lag spikes over the course of hours at a time where me and my alliance mates would have lag spikes all of us at the same time, every time, in completely different areas of the game. Our guild/alliance chat would just fill up with a string of "OMG WTF LAG AGAIN" type messages periodically from people doing completely different things. Each time a significant number of players raise concerns about lag on the forums or elsewhere, I contact our IT and Network team and ask them whether there are any issues with either the servers or our network that would cause lag or disconnects. Regarding servers, there have been no issues with the game servers in recent months. Regarding the network: there were network issues related to European logins and access to the website on June 23, and we were in close communication with our network team to provide them with info that players were relaying to us via the German forums and one of the English forums. This was resolved within a few hours, and players were once again able to access the game and the website. There were issues with the wiki on June 25, and that was also resolved. There are currently no problems with either the network or our game servers.
If you're having any issues with your connection, our support team can help you figure out whether it's an issue with your ISP. It could also be a routing or a peering issue, which again depends on the different routes data goes from your computer to us and back, and it depends on what peering company it goes through. Basically, it is not a straight line from your computer to our game servers, and any number of issues could affect your connection along all the routes the data travels on on the internet. (More info: routing and peering). --Regina Buenaobra User Regina Buenaobra sig.png 21:46, 29 June 2009 (UTC)

Regina, does the IT test the network from remote locations (ie, they're not testing how bad the lag is when plugged directly into the servers, are they?) I can't speak for everyone else, but GW is kicking me out every 10 minutes or so, and giving me 5-10 second lag spikes every 2 or 3 minutes. Owning a laptop and being out and about a decent amount, I can say from personal experience that lag varies from network to network. For example, sitting in a local coffee shop or at home, I have no lag problems what-so-ever, but at a friend's house, we both lag-spike and 007 at about the same time, and rather frequently, but not as often as others. Not all networks are created equally. — Jon User Jon Lupen Sig Image.png Lupen 23:33, 29 June 2009 (UTC)
Shard: I'm not sure about this, but I will ask the IT and network teams about it, and also ask them whether they can look into these lag concerns again. Question regarding the Zaishen

I figured I'd ask you instead of Linsey (since she is most likely busy with the next content update) if you could find this out for me. On the article Tyria (world) there is a statement on how the Zaishen found the Battle Isles. I have looked but couldn't find any source of this. So before just removing it as inaccurate info, I figured I'd ask if you could find out if it legit or not. Here is the statement: "Between the three continents are the Battle Isles, a small island chain ruled by the Zaishen Order, a guild of Canthans that were shipwrecked and cut off from their continent many years ago. In the time since, they have grown, and the Battle Isles is now the training ground for the most elite fighters of the world." If you can find this out for me, it would be much appreciated. Thanks in advance. -- Azazel the Assassin/talk 08:55, 15 June 2009 (UTC)

I'm guessing it's speculation based on Tien the Lamplighter's story and the established connections and similarities between Cantha and the Zaishen Order. -- User Gordon Ecker sig.png Gordon Ecker (talk) 10:05, 15 June 2009 (UTC)
Never knew of that little bit. Thanks Ecker, though if that speculation can be confirmed would be nice. Only issue I see with the speculation is the lack of decorations by the Zaishen Order on Canthan New Year (and there are plenty of islands nearby Cantha alone). :P -- Azazel the Assassin/talk 11:38, 15 June 2009 (UTC)
If it's based upon information provided by an NPC's text in-game, then yes it's accurate. :-) --Regina Buenaobra User Regina Buenaobra sig.png 00:36, 1 July 2009 (UTC)

XTH Update

Hi, thank you for posting on the Guru about what to do if we didn't get our XTH points tonight, I wasn't quite sure what to do about it. Could some sort of notice system or procedure be put in place in the future, even if it's for GW2, that would provide such notices somewhere a bit more official - such as on guildwars.com or on this wiki? Thank you! 24.188.207.20 04:13, 19 June 2009 (UTC)

Hi! I will try to get those notices up on my wiki page in a more timely manner. I've been dealing with multiple issues (letting the team know about reported bugs, talking to players on IM/PM to confirm said bugs, relaying player reports about the issues w/ the points, etc.) at once. We'll be looking into the issue with the Xunlai Points. Please contact customer support for help with your individual account(s). We're very sorry about these issues, and hope for your patience. --Regina Buenaobra User Regina Buenaobra sig.png 04:36, 19 June 2009 (UTC)

Hi Regina, thank you for the response. As for "hoping for my patience", no worries, I'm confident this will be sorted away in due course. I contacted support immediately after reading your message. I saw you posted notice on your wiki Journal, sorry if I missed that earlier. Best Regards! 24.188.207.20 05:19, 19 June 2009 (UTC)
Ah, thanks. I'll do that tomorrow if I still can't get them then. Guildwars is having such horrible lag right now, it's unplayable, so I'm just going to go to bed early for once. :P User Rose Of Kali SIG.jpgRose Of Kali 05:50, 19 June 2009 (UTC)
The interesting thing is that while some people who did bet in the XTH don't get the points, others who were not able to make any predictions (due to the XTH being unaccesible on the MAT Saturday) claim they actually do get points (some up to 80). Well, time to go home and find out whether I get points on my accounts. User Xelonir sig.pngXelonir 12:57, 19 June 2009 (UTC)
For those of us with multiple accounts that were awarded an incorrect number of points, do we have to create a support ticket for each account? Or will support be able to deal with each account at once if provided the appropriate information?
Support's telling me that if you have multiple game accounts, you should submit one ticket. --Regina Buenaobra User Regina Buenaobra sig.png 00:36, 20 June 2009 (UTC)
Another update: the team's reviewing the situation to figure out the best way to correct the issues. They're going to need a few days to settle on and implement the resolution. In the meantime, we really appreciate your patience while the team works to address the issue. --Regina Buenaobra User Regina Buenaobra sig.png 01:17, 20 June 2009 (UTC)
The team is still digging into the code, but the latest news is that accurately distributing points from June 18 is linked to correcting the underlying issues with XTH. This means that the June 18 points won't be distributed until the issues with XTH are fixed in the code.
When we have more info on this or a time frame for when XTH will be available again, we will let you know.
Thanks. --Regina Buenaobra User Regina Buenaobra sig.png 19:35, 30 June 2009 (UTC)

HB is still broken-Lokre 13:43, 19 June 2009 (UTC)
I'm pretty sure they know HB is still broken- its on their lists of things that need lovin'. Can't expect them to solve all the world's problems at once. But I'm very satisfied for HB at the moment, RoJ had always annoyed me in HB because my heroes enjoyed standing in it and dying. No more!Underated Skill 17:32, 19 June 2009 (UTC)
As much as I like the update I'm hestitant to get too comfortable with it. Arenanet have a long history of reacting slow. I'd hate to fall in love with the newer looked Ritualists and to have Arenanet come in and screw around with things. ~~000.00.00.00~~ 00:46, 20 June 2009 (UTC)

You may have a point there, null_IP... Looking at the Paragon's playstyle, it wasn't changed nearly as fundamentally as Rits were while Rits aren't necessarily as difficult to "pace" as Goons were. In other words: Paras were "worse-off" and if they don't get any other PvE changes after this then I'd expect some other rits skills to get the bat later on. ...But now consider how easily Necromancers totally upstage BOTH Goons and Rits when it comes to Utility and Summoning ...yet they're supposedly getting some kind of epic Well buff next. Necs that can just Spam Wells & Spirits without having to jump through the hoops that our Rit and Para have to for Energy?... Yeah it doesn't sound fair to me either but maybe you have an excuse now to play your Rit without regret. (or just reroll as a Necro later, LoL) --ilrUser ilr deprav.png 04:14, 20 June 2009 (UTC)

Predicting XTH for June is locked

Regina, I was reading on Guru earlier that a lot of people are unable to make June XTH predictions because their May predictions are still locked in their place. I went and checked mine and it's doing the same thing. How soon can we expect this to be fixed? I would like to make predictions before I have to leave town for a few weeks (starting this Friday), and I was wondering when I'd be able to. Thanks in advance. Karate Jesus 19:50, 22 June 2009 (UTC)

Somebody stated that the new predictions wouldn't be available until they fixed the distribution. They also said that they hoped to have a fix within a few days, so you might be in the clear. (too lazy to find links, sorry!) Freedom Bound 19:53, 22 June 2009 (UTC)
Oh really? What if the issue isn't fixed before the mATs start? Karate Jesus 19:55, 22 June 2009 (UTC)
We're expecting to have word about this, and further information, tomorrow. --Regina Buenaobra User Regina Buenaobra sig.png 23:43, 22 June 2009 (UTC)
Good, because I think the predicts close in 5 days (the 27th). It would really suck if none of us got points two months in a row due to this. Karate Jesus 23:45, 22 June 2009 (UTC)
I've heard talk that because of the large amount of cases and the lack of time to work them all out, we may get no RPs at all. Is that really a possibility? Karate Jesus 20:54, 23 June 2009 (UTC)
Nope. Read Regina's Journal. User Rose Of Kali SIG.jpgRose Of Kali 00:40, 24 June 2009 (UTC)

On GWGuru you say, "The tournament is scheduled, but there will be no June voting.". So we're not going to be able to vote at all this month? That is not very clear in your journal update. Karate Jesus 16:35, 24 June 2009 (UTC)
Sorry about that. Hope this is clearer: Xunlai Tournament House is closed. There is no voting for the time being, while the dev team works on the back end.
People can still actually play in the tournament, though. --Regina Buenaobra User Regina Buenaobra sig.png 18:20, 24 June 2009 (UTC)
That is clearer, thank you. I'm going to go ahead and assume that means there is no voting for all of June. Good luck with all of this Regina. Take it easy and don't get too stressed out with the possible shit-storm. Karate Jesus 18:23, 24 June 2009 (UTC)

in a way it is good to HTX taking a break.
so it will be probably like 60 days before people get points again ..
z-keys are on the way up and the same with ECTOS
it flows into the guild chat with people to be out and farm the gold into the festival
now that they have no chance to get some money out of HTX.
but to explain just why it could go wrong ...
U do not throw up a web page without the tested over and over again to the works .. so does everyone.
and why can we not use the older model that works ... until the new works as it should ..!
note ..
language in an online game is always a problem
then to understand what is wrong U must make it simple ..
To send a complaint into .. and get an indifferent response back pisser just more of the people.
One more note ..
first rule on the WWW is: Never send personal information to others
so it is free storage was a bit of a bad joke
well and that your acc. is bound to a code on the page.
I and about. 80-90% of my guild are sure that we have not made a reg. with the acc.

Hero Battles

During the latest HB MaT finale, both players left the battle before it even started in order to draw Anet's attention to the fact that the format is just about dead now. The community waited over 2 years for updates, and with the number of people entering the MaT (43) at an all-time low it seems there's not much of a HB community left to speak of. I'd just like to know if Anet is finally going to do something and prevent this from happening in the next MaT. I just hope they don't intend to ignore us again and write that "C Toi Le Bot claimed victory over Legendary Divi to become June's 1v1 champion" on the official website as if nothing happened. --Draikin 21:12, 30 June 2009 (UTC)

They already said they had Hero Battle's is still something they want to examine when they get that PvP Love update going, and you probably aren't going to get anything before then unless if you want half-assed stuff. Ya, it sucks, but the stuff required to make HB not dead/suck is basically a rework from the ground up mechanics and map wise. DarkNecrid 21:53, 30 June 2009 (UTC)
While it's true that it needs a complete rework, I'm convinced they could have done something during those two years to prevent the format from turning into the joke that it is today. For example there's a number of skills that could have been nerfed since they have almost no effect on other PvP formats, and the morale meter mechanic could have been tweaked. The bug with the NPC and the AI issues with pets we reported back in 2006 could have been fixed as well. Yet when all of these issues continue to be ignored you end up with this kind of situation. If they plan to give the format the update it needs in the near future then that's great, but that doesn't help to resolve the situation now. --Draikin 22:10, 30 June 2009 (UTC)
so you're basically saying "I like that they're going to try to fix the problems with HB, but I'm going to continue to complain about it in the meantime." --click moar Mafaraxas 03:11, 1 July 2009 (UTC)
Ya, it doesn't help it now, but please explain how giving it half-assed fixes from them rushing to fix it now helps it either? (it doesn't) Be patient. A lot of the stuff you mentioned is still touchy stuff that they can't do over night and needs a lot of internal discussion etc etc on. DarkNecrid 13:54, 1 July 2009 (UTC)
Hopefully the two accounts mentioned above don't get banned. Given their intentions to point out problems that would be rather uncool of ANet even though they technically did manipulate the ladder.~>Sins WDBUser The Sins We Die By Sig.png 17:39, 1 July 2009 (UTC)
It's hard to claim that it's ladder manipulation if they both resign before the timer in the final. --click moar Mafaraxas 18:51, 1 July 2009 (UTC)
It's match manipulation so in the end it's the same thing but I have never heard of anyone getting banned for that in Hero Battles, not even the ones using bots. Regarding the other comments: so far I haven't seen any confirmation that they're working on a Hero Battles update, the only thing we're certain of is they're working on removing heroes from PvP, the GW Live Test Krewe and the problems with the XTH. I know they discussed changes for the format, that's all. --Draikin 19:06, 1 July 2009 (UTC)
We're aware about what happened with the match. Thanks for raising your concern about it, too. Linsey actually had a discussion about this with Izzy and James Phinney yesterday, citing the issues above, as well as other design issues. --Regina Buenaobra User Regina Buenaobra sig.png 00:55, 2 July 2009 (UTC)
Thanks Regina, it's good to hear that what happened in the finale isn't going to be ignored this time around. --Draikin 16:39, 2 July 2009 (UTC)
