celestial mini pig icon

hi wyn, i reverted the icon of the celestial pig to the first one you uploaded as i thought you'd accidentally have uploaded the more transperent one again later. but now, when clicking on the accordant version of past icons, the latest one you uploaded already seemed to use the rather opaque image, while the reverted version still shows the more transperent one. i guess that this is a displaying error right now, but in case i finally reverted to the old version again, excuse me for causing the trouble :P —ZerphatalkThe Improver 12:06, 2 February 2009 (UTC)

Thanks for Hosting!

Wyn, thanks for hosting a great Canthan New Year party in International District 11! It was great fun to see all the guild and alliance members. EVERYONE who was in the district appreciated the coordination, hosting, and all the goodies! What a great way to build team spirit and give something back to the GW community. It was fun feeding the cooks with you and the rest of the team. Great job! Luke1138 19:41, 2 February 2009 (UTC)

Hey Wyn, I also wanted to say thanks for hosting the district; especially since it was my first Canthan New Year; and making it as successful as possible by providing items I had no way of getting in time (most of the Factions items actually). Also on a somewhat related note although my brother wasn't able to get his own mini Celestial Ox I was and now finally have my first celestial miniature. Thanks again :) --Kakarot Talk 21:35, 2 February 2009 (UTC)

Hello

Perhaps you might be able to tell me which rules giant blinking text breaks. I looked and couldn't find any. ~Shard User Shard Sig Icon.png 01:33, 6 February 2009 (UTC)

Just leave it be Shard, it's disruptive, and that's enough breaking of the rules to allow me to change it. --Wyn's Talk page Wyn 01:34, 6 February 2009 (UTC)
it doesn't nor is it disruptive. and its vandelism to mess with other peoples talk chat 98.199.243.39 01:34, 6 February 2009 (UTC)
It's not only disruptive, it's intentionally disruptive. Don't push your luck. --Wyn's Talk page Wyn 01:36, 6 February 2009 (UTC)
No, it's intentionally distracting. Disruptive and distracting are two very different things. The only disruption coming from that is the three people who are vandalizing it. ~Shard User Shard Sig Icon.png 01:37, 6 February 2009 (UTC)
You can find the difference between being disrupting and being distracting on this wiki easily. Disrupting = doing damage to people using skills, Distracting = disabling people's skills. --The preceding unsigned comment was added by User:72.71.232.219 (talk).04:27, 11 February 2009 (UTC)
Common sense usually says you don't do annoying things. You regarded it as annoying yourself, as do others. On talk pages, distraction is disruptive. --User Brains12 circle sig.png Brains12 \ talk 01:38, 6 February 2009 (UTC)
I'll call blinking test "graffiti" and graffiti is a form of vandalism. -- WarBlade 01:39, 6 February 2009 (UTC)
So should we make a list of all the possible html tags we're not allowed to use in combination with one another? It's confusing when dictators make up rules on the spot. Causes lots of conflicts and such. ~Shard User Shard Sig Icon.png 01:41, 6 February 2009 (UTC)
No, we should leave it up to community and admin discretion, because there will always be jokers like you who will find something that isn't on the list who say... "But... it's not on the list!!!" --Wyn's Talk page Wyn 01:43, 6 February 2009 (UTC)
It's a joke when the so-called admin and community discretion doesn't cover loopholes.Pika Fan 01:44, 6 February 2009 (UTC)
Who said anything about "rules" and exhaustive lists of dos and don'ts? What happened to common sense and making pages easy to read and use? Besides, I don't think improving pages in regards to distractions or disruption is regarded as not being common practice.
It's a joke when people regard loopholes as excuses to be disruptive and whatnot, and that any and every loophole must be covered. --User Brains12 circle sig.png Brains12 \ talk 01:47, 6 February 2009 (UTC)
Means that some people aren't trying hard enough, eh? So if I felt WTF chains were hurting my eyes I could QQ about it? WTF chains are clearly spammed messages, isn't that a sign of a serious lack of common sense? It's a joke that sysops are setting last minute standards for something they should have seen it coming, when it was already covered in the signature policies.
Whether it distracts or not is relative and differs from person to person, at least have the sense to say it disturbs the majority.Pika Fan 01:53, 6 February 2009 (UTC)
WTF chains, or any other spam on talk pages gets routinely shutdown as disruptive. Your point? --Wyn's Talk page Wyn 01:56, 6 February 2009 (UTC)
I can only think of three wtf chains in recent memory, and none of them have been "shutdown". But anyway, I think there's a difference between a user's talkpage and the game updates talkpage (or any mainspace talk for that matter), it's held to higher standards of cleanliness. Vili User talk:Vili 02:00, 6 February 2009 (UTC)
Well Vili, you haven't been here that long... wtf chains do routinely get shutdown when the RC spam gets excessive. --Wyn's Talk page Wyn 02:03, 6 February 2009 (UTC)
If you feel WTF chains are hurting your eyes, yes, you can QQ. We try and use discussion - if someone has a problem, they discuss that problem.
It's impossible to record everything bad and horrible. If you try to do that, you get people, as Wyn says, who complain that something they did wasn't on the list and that that's reason enough to get away with it. And you just get more bureaucracy instead of discussion. I don't think it was just sysops who are "setting last minute standards", and, as I said, removing disruption isn't exactly a "last minute" standard. Nor is it a sysop duty to set these standards or see them coming.
Yes, distraction can be relative. But I don't think anyone has opposed the statement put forth (by the writer, no less, as well as other people) that it is distracting. --User Brains12 circle sig.png Brains12 \ talk 02:03, 6 February 2009 (UTC)
It just wasn't clear to me that blinking text was disruptive. I assumed it was there to be used. I'll leave it alone and I apologize to all the epileptics who use wiki, as they were the only people I could have possibly hurt. ~Shard User Shard Sig Icon.png 02:04, 6 February 2009 (UTC)
Then I implore you to say the same thing to WTF chains, as they are undisputedly distracting too, if not disruptive. Good day to you, and before you go, take your double standards with you.Pika Fan 02:14, 6 February 2009 (UTC)
Pika, I DO say the same thing to wtf chains whenever I see them disrupting RC, but as pointed out, they happen mostly on user talk pages, not mainspace or otherwise 'public' space so are held to a slightly less rigorous standard. --Wyn's Talk page Wyn 02:18, 6 February 2009 (UTC)
So following your logic, I am entitled to do hanky-panky on user-pages even though it clearly is distracting and disrupting. Maybe you should try removing WTF chains, just like you did with the blinking text, helps a lot if it isn't there, yeah?Pika Fan 04:24, 6 February 2009 (UTC)

(Reset indent) Aside from the fact that a list of "don't"s will not be complete, it gives rebels ideas to try, if not here, elsewhere.      mtew 02:41, 6 February 2009 (UTC)

Why is it Pika, it has to be drastic ends of the spectrum with you? I left his comments, I just removed the disrupting formatting. If chains are done with disrupting formatting that will also be removed, though the wtfs will probably be left, with a note requesting they cease and desist. Agreed with Shard. Current heuristics indicate that Wynthyst suffers from both paranoid and borderline personality disorders, especially with the block that Wynthyst obviously requested for 74.174.28.118. Wynthyst just had another sysop do the block so he wouldn't look bad. P.S. Don't block me. It doesn't work. P.P.S. I'm not Shard, but I agree with him on many points.
I have not requested any block of you or anyone else on my behalf. The fact that you are unhappy with Anet does not give you the right to insult other users on this wiki. --Wyn's Talk page Wyn 00:45, 10 February 2009 (UTC)

Are these tables useful and, if so, where should they go?

I have built as couple tables with information on Warrior armor availability and costs.  They are Standard warior armor and Prestige warrior armor.  They are hand built.  I didn't see any easy way to extract the information using DPL.  I was wondering about putting more emphasis on the 'start' entries and making the 'n/a' entries less noticable.      mtew 01:34, 11 February 2009 (UTC)

The only problem with any sort of table like this is that the cost of the materials fluctuate based on the current state of the game. The only money values the wiki lists are the value of selling things to the merchant (not traders) that remains constant. There is no way to apply a static cost of armor. --Wyn's Talk page Wyn 02:08, 11 February 2009 (UTC)
Agreed.  That is why those tables lists the component counts, not their estimated costs.  I'll take that as a suggestion to copy the discussion about costs to each sub-section.
The goal of that particular page (not those tables in particular) is to record the prices merchants will pay for things.  I may be looking in the wrong place, but I could not find that information.  (Help?!?)      mtew 05:51, 11 February 2009 (UTC)
If you go to each material, the value is the price the merchant will give you, but are really meaningless in regards to armor, since you don't sell armor, you buy it. I guess maybe I'm not understanding what your real goal is. --Wyn's Talk page Wyn 06:49, 11 February 2009 (UTC)
Sometimes I get confused.  However, there are a few situations where someone might want to sell the armor they have.  The purpose of the page is to record all possible merchant 'Sell' prices.  I went hunting for a list of all types of armor and their armor rating.  I dodn't find one.  So I started building one myself.  It turned into two tables.  They don't really belong on an item selling price page.  Never the less, they contain useful information.  They really belong elsewhere else so I was thinking of moving them to the main name space, but I want someone else's opinion on their value and, if they are useful, where they should go.      mtew 15:00, 11 February 2009 (UTC)
It's not possible to 'sell' your armor. You can salvage it for crafting materials, and you will never get back everything you put into it. --Wyn's Talk page Wyn 17:31, 11 February 2009 (UTC)
I think you can sell your armor to a merchant. But that value is waaaay below what was paid for it. --JonTheMon 17:34, 11 February 2009 (UTC)
Btw. I don't understand those tables so I don't see how they could be useful :-/ poke | talk 17:36, 11 February 2009 (UTC)
Ok, you're right Jon, I'm wrong, (just tested) you can in fact sell your armor to the merch. I don't know if runes and insignia effect the sale price or not, but my Elite Drakescale leggings have a sell value of 165g.--Wyn's Talk page Wyn 17:39, 11 February 2009 (UTC)
Poke: They are a condensation of the tables on each of the Warrior armor pages.  For standard armor, there is a column for each possible armor rating except for 55/59. There is only one AR=55 armor and very few AR=59s.  The prestige table has a column for each piece because the Deldrimor set is incomplete and the Templar uses a different material for the helm.      mtew 18:52, 11 February 2009 (UTC)
Prestige table is fine; you could probably condense all of the body pieces into 1 column and have the headpiece in another. The regular armor table is just confusing. I think the issue is how you show the quantities of each. 1000,25,4 is a lot less easy to interpret than 1Platinum 25Tanned Hide Square(s) 4Steel Ingot(s). and you should probably also differentiate the armor types from each other, and then by location. --JonTheMon 19:07, 11 February 2009 (UTC)
I did try putting the material labels in each column and the result was too wide.  Even splitting 55/59 with the counts made it too wide.  Maybe I should just not include the counts.  Replace it with a simple 'yes' and leave the details to the individual armor pages.
I'm a bit confused about what you mean by 'type'.      mtew 19:28, 11 February 2009 (UTC)
I think the prestige table might be useful in prestige armor as a summary of sorts. The one on standard is a little confusing at first but after your explanation, I can see how it's meant to be used. I'd say it'll fit in either basic armor or armor art. Or maybe we can try to merge them. -- ab.er.rant User Ab.er.rant Sig.png 08:26, 12 February 2009 (UTC)

(Reset indent) JonTheMon had some useful suggestions, which I have implemented.  The Standard warior armor table was a Blivit – Too Much Information, and a bit of a Kluge because I was trying to put too much into it.  I've simplified it.  You might want to look at it again.

Thank you very much for the suggestions on placement.  As JonTheMon suggested, this might be better continued on the project's discussion page.      mtew 15:01, 12 February 2009 (UTC)

wiki IDE?

Hi Wyn. I usually develop in EditPlus, but I'm new to wikis. Is there a technique or utility to that would allow me to preview my developments as an alternative to the wiki's edit page? So that I could do one cut and paste to post to wiki after I do my development in a more robust editor and not have to worry about so many minor edits. I looked at some of your links and didn't find anything yet. (I`m admitting I`m not skilled enough to use the preview button well. My actual primary problem may be becoming lost in recursive undo's and/or browser:backs. I`m afraid to even admit I've also mis-clicked "save" rather than "preview". Probably because "save" is 1) first in line; and 2) bolded.) Thanks for any tips!

Regarding your balance rant: there is no such thing as "balance". [Balance is a man-made concept that does not exist outside man's mind.] I rant with thee! ---McCrea 10:55, 13 February 2009 (UTC)

I believe there are some 3rd party wiki editors available, but I don't use them, so I can't really point you in the right direction. You might want to investigate further at MediaWiki (just click on the MediaWiki logo in the bottom right corner) and see if there is information there regarding 3rd party editors, or who knows? Someone more knowledgeable than I may chime in on this conversation! (they often do... ) As for my rants, they are mostly to blow off steam when something here totally blows my blood pressure threw the roof and are just my honest opinions. --Wyn's Talk page Wyn 12:42, 13 February 2009 (UTC)

Thank you for the though Pumpkin. --Wyn's Talk page Wyn 05:35, 24 February 2009 (UTC)

Please

take a break. You're obviously stressed out and pissed off, and your current actions are only making it worse upon yourself. Lord Belar 22:18, 24 February 2009 (UTC)

Actually it's none of the above, but thank you for you concern. --Wyn's Talk page Wyn 22:25, 24 February 2009 (UTC)

I just wanted to say

Thank you. You have, in my opinion, been a great sysop and your contributions to this wiki have been invaluable. You do not seem to wish to share the reason why you plan to be less active, but that's OK. Considering your dedication to the wiki, I can only guess that those reasons are very serious, and for that I wish you good luck. I hope to see you back soon. WhyUser talk:Why Are We Fighting 01:34, 25 February 2009 (UTC)

I'm not the greatest at elequent speeches, but to echo Why, thank you. Your dedication to the wiki has helped it make great strides for the sake of progress. Many a time have you corrected my blatent mistakes, and I thank you for that. Take care, and I hope to see you active once again sometime, Wyn. --User Wandering Traveler Sig2.png Wandering Traveler 01:49, 25 February 2009 (UTC)
Wyn, you will always have my support and respect. You have been there for my problems, and I will remain here for yours. You make this wiki a better and brighter place. Take care. --TalkAntioch 04:16, 25 February 2009 (UTC)
i also agree with Why and wish you the same. although you might have been pedantic at times for some users (including me in some cases :P), you always had the best intentions for the wiki, and on top of that offered your help to many users when they asked for it. on the other hand, i don't suppose you to have vanished from the wiki completely anyways, so why am i using past tense actually? i guess you'll still contribute casually in the future. —ZerphatalkThe Improver 10:10, 25 February 2009 (UTC)
You guys are acting like this is a funeral or something. :P --Wyn's Talk page Wyn 10:28, 25 February 2009 (UTC)
You should try the pie Wynthyst, it's fantastic. Misery 12:51, 25 February 2009 (UTC)
I agree (not with the pie, though : P), you do a great job here and you are likely one of the most productive sysops. I hope things get better for you soon. Erasculio 13:40, 25 February 2009 (UTC)
Well, Wyn, you have been very dedicated to the wiki. For something to come up that is bigger than that it must be something that is at least time consuming and very demanding. Whatever it is, I wish you luck! --TalkAntioch 17:55, 25 February 2009 (UTC)

It just got moved to Guild:Deths Advocates. - Tanetris 02:37, 25 February 2009 (UTC)

Just wanted to say that your logo looks great, especially with my modified skin :D One change to the code I gave you on my other accounts talk ... err I mean Poke's talk page is that since the image is on the wiki's server you can remove the http://wiki.guildwars.com although all this does is make the code 25 characters shorter so not really a necessary change. --Kakarot Talk 22:24, 25 February 2009 (UTC)

I'm glad you like it... I wanted to add a splash of color. :D --Wyn's Talk page Wyn 22:35, 25 February 2009 (UTC)

quick question

how do i put a small image by my name in my signature? --Fuzzy 22:19, 26 February 2009 (UTC)

Go to GWW:SIGN and read the section about customizing your signature.. that explains it. --Wyn's Talk page Wyn 22:33, 26 February 2009 (UTC)

Oh, because I'm not on the side of the whiney "tell us something NOW or be considered lame" community, I'm on a high horse? Well, that's fine by me, I don't give two cents what you or anyone else thinks, I have just as much right to defend Linsey as you do to trash her. Oh, and btw... spellcheck is your friend. --Wyn's Talk page Wyn 01:38, 27 February 2009 (UTC)
im not attacking you but acting like you have inside information when you don't dost sit well also you misspelled spell check its two words not one. and i am not wining or wanting you to be on "my side" i just dont want you to come off as a insider which your not. 75.165.109.100 02:39, 27 February 2009 (UTC)
Nothing that I have said indicates I have done anything other than read what Linsey has posted as well as watched her page. Btw... how do you know that I DON'T have inside information? You have no idea who I talk to or what I know. --Wyn's Talk page Wyn 02:45, 27 February 2009 (UTC)

you have insider info plz share with the rest of us...... also i also read and chat with linsey and others so your not the only one.75.165.109.100 02:51, 27 February 2009 (UTC)

Yeah Wyn, I mean Lindsey doesn't need time to eat or sleep you know?! She should stop everything and make time to report on features that aren't going to make it into an update because she's too busy talking about it to actually sit down and create it. I mean she's one person, she should be able to do everything on MY schedule, and she should be happy taking abuse from random people!
