The refund point system was an early mechanic needed to redistribute your attribute points. To lower your attribute level with one level, you needed one refund point. Increasing an attribute was still free. One refund point was gained for each 250 experience gained, and per mission completed (even after said mission had been done before).
Unlike what happens today, it was possible to redistribute your attribute points while inside explorable areas and missions, as long as you had enough refund points. Players used such ability in some farming builds, changing their attributes based on what they were going to cast.
[edit] Notes
- You could have a maximum of 24 attribute refund points at any time.
- This mechanic was removed in the September 7, 2005 update, and replaced with the current attribute point allocation system.
