If all this shining blade mantle stuff is just to sell some damn costumes, then fuck this bullshit 68.93.105.247 21:14, 15 April 2010 (UTC)

Guild wars is all about micropayments, what did you think a PR campaign would be about?--TahiriVeila 21:15, 15 April 2010 (UTC)

Can't really blame a company for trying to make money. Just don;t buy the costumes if you don;t want them. I'm sure they care. BlazeRick 21:22, 15 April 2010 (UTC)
The main content update won't be happening until the anniversary celebration. Everything until then is just leading up to that. Give it a rest. -- Wyn User Wynthyst sig icon2.png talk 21:23, 15 April 2010 (UTC)
People cant seem to get that these items are not because Arenanet is trying to Nickle and Dime us, its because they are adding new content to the game, and they are letting the players "Join in" on it. Costumes are merely iceing to the cake, just like the BMP and the bonus items that you can get from the special editions. Their ment for Entertainment and Pleasure for the purchaser.--Neithan DiniemUser Talk:Neithan Diniem 21:25, 15 April 2010 (UTC)
BMP was content, three missions you could play in, new weapons art, for 10 bucks. All this is are 2 outfits that make character look pretty. Content is interactive, this isnt 68.93.105.247 21:29, 15 April 2010 (UTC)
"ARE adding new content to the game". 5th anniversary isn't here yet. Stop being bad, stop crying over something you haven't payed for, for like, 3 years already. Like Wyn said, give it a rest BlazeRick 21:37, 15 April 2010 (UTC)
For the record, they did pay for it. ArenaNet's model is the one time payment for the game to play the game. Other games having a model of "Monthly fees" has no bearing on ArenaNet's model and what the players paid for. So even if a player hasn't purchased anything from ArenaNet for over a year, they still reserve the right to voice their opinion as they are a customer of ArenaNet and ArenaNet's business model. So instead of actually backing ArenaNet you are the one arguing against ArenaNet's Business Model and thus against ArenaNet. ~ 98.236.96.24 00:27, 18 April 2010 (UTC)
(edit conflict)Some people are perfectly fine spending spare change to do that, also. I honestly dont see why people put such a fuss over these types of things. If you dont like it, then just ignore the update and dont buy them.--Neithan DiniemUser Talk:Neithan Diniem 21:39, 15 April 2010 (UTC)
(edit conflict) @68.93.105.247: You are aware of the 5th anniversary coming up, aren't you? This wasn't all hype for a few costumes (which, honestly, I find a bit disappointing, mostly because of their differences from the art). It was (and still is) a lead-in for the 5th anniversary event. They did say they have "big plans", and no matter what you think of ArenaNet, you know that they wouldn't consider the release of costumes a big plan. This is just so people can get into the spirit of the event more, or at least that's my assumption. It's not as if the micropayments hurt the company, and if you don't want them, then don't buy them.
Honestly, some people are disappointed too easily at everything ANet does. Not to say it's always unwarranted, but it wouldn't hurt to ponder that ANet just might have something up their sleeve every so often if you've bothered to continue playing up to now. --Kyoshi (Talk) User Kyoshi sig.png 21:40, 15 April 2010 (UTC)

Some ~free~ costumes would be nice, as quest rewards, or even from the Zcoin dudes... consider it some incentive for those who don't want to ~waste~ they're money on something they'll use ~once~... - Stimpson J Kat 21:42, 15 April 2010 (UTC)

There will most probably be giveaways, just like there were when they released the Dwayna and Grenth costumes. I really don't think $10 every few months is such a big deal. :-/ Haruno MidoriUser HarunoMidori signature img.png 21:47, 15 April 2010 (UTC)
There were giveaways of costumes? I don't remember them being available anywhere but the store.
Regardless, Kat: remember you haven't paid a cent in monthly fees for this game. A few micropayments don't hurt anyone. Besides, why would giving out free things increase incentive for anything other than playing, increasing the strain on the servers and in the process ~not making ANet one cent richer~? It's not like free things give this spoiled community any incentive to buy things. --Kyoshi (Talk) User Kyoshi sig.png 21:52, 15 April 2010 (UTC)
If you don't like them, don't buy them. They do absolutely nothing except change the look of your character a little. It is not like Anet is charging $10 for special "Shining Blade Armor" that has a base armor of 100 for each class, or that can hold two Insignias, or anything stupid like that. "Hey, if you want these costumes which do nothing, buy them." does not mean, "Hey, buy items that you need or that somehow give you an advantage with real money, or you will be left behind." FleshAndFaith 22:02, 15 April 2010 (UTC)
They gave like 20 sets of the others away as twitter/facebook promotions... my guess is they will do some of that during the 5th anniversary weekend, but honestly guys... these "micro transactsions" are paying to keep the Live Team supporting Guild Wars, since the majority of the company resources are being focused on giving us a FABULOUS game with GW2. Quit crying, enjoy what you do get for free, which after 5 years is actually alot, and if you like the game, and want to see it continue to be free to play, with maintenance, and updates (whether you approved of current or past updates or not, they are STILL updates), then spend $10 every 3 or 4 months if you can. It's really not that big a deal. -- Wyn User Wynthyst sig icon2.png talk 22:05, 15 April 2010 (UTC)

I recently herd somewhere from someone that the video game industry is dying and needs as much money as possibly possible, it has to be true because pirates are evil and money is all that matters and oh yeah NCsoft is totally poor, the most poorest of them all, and makes literally no profits you can see this when you go to their website and notice the 3 subscrition based games that you have to buy and then continue paying for. It's so ludicrous how people complain sheesh they need money to make an even more wonderfully big pile of money don't they? sheesh! I wouldnt' want to see how close to being in the red they are it would be scary huh. Ƹ̵̡Ӝ̵̨̄Ʒ аІiсә User Aliceandsven 1.png ѕνәи Ƹ̵̡Ӝ̵̨̄Ʒ 23:07, 20 April 2010 (UTC)

Body Size question[edit]

For the guys, do these outfits come in multiple sizes to fit the different male frames, or are they all just warrior-size? If they're all just warrior size, I'll pass on these. But if they're available in all male sizes, I'll consider buying them.--Res 21:49, 15 April 2010 (UTC)

They size to the character. -- FreedomBoundUser Freedom Bound Sig.png 22:00, 15 April 2010 (UTC)
Really? Cool, I might pick them up then. The fact that the Grenth/Dwayna outfits didn't resize on the guys really annoyed me about them. It's nice if these do.--Res 23:13, 15 April 2010 (UTC)
Uh, might want to wait. I made up that part whole thing above. Seemed reasonable at the time. -- FreedomBoundUser Freedom Bound Sig.png 02:13, 16 April 2010 (UTC)
Technically, the costumes are actually 20 different armor sets. One for each profession+gender combination. They each take up like 300 files in the dat. They scale like any other armor. It's possible some things like hanging objects (cloaks, some cloth, ornaments, etc) may not scale. ~Shard User Shard Sig Icon.png 02:28, 16 April 2010 (UTC)
I was just looking at male shining blade on my warrior and assassin and they are definitely tailored to profession. The location of the shining blade emblem on the chest of the armour appears to be in slightly different position for both professions. They did an excellent job with this one. 58.106.43.167 04:42, 16 April 2010 (UTC)

All right, thanks, everyone. I ended up picking them up. A little disappointed that they are way too bulky, but they don't look that bad. They're about the same size as the Grenth/Dwayna outfits, but somehow manage to not actually look as if they're that big. I swapped between them just to make sure, and they are actually about the same size. They look fine from the front or from the back, but from the side, they make my guys look fat. ^_^; My assassin, at least, is glad for an outfit that's actually quite nice-looking (seriously, those images on the website didn't do the outfit justice) and doesn't make him look as if he's overcompensating for something like most assassin armors do. >_> I just wish it didn't make him look quite so pudgy.--Res 16:00, 16 April 2010 (UTC)

Hmm. I do agree with you about the site pictures not doing it justice. Even the wiki images look much better. I might be picking these up soon. --Kyoshi (Talk) User Kyoshi sig.png 16:05, 16 April 2010 (UTC)

"Limited Time"[edit]

SURPRISE[edit]

Female outfit[edit]

WM on females (particularly monk) is, in my humble opinion, freaking awful. This isn't really a complaint, I baught them both and I quite like the SB costume, I just want to see what people think about how the female models tend to want to chew on their emblem things. I didn't go anywhere besides GTOB today so it might just be that outpost, but the capes as well are really akward looking, they go way off to the side.

In other news, we can now cosplay as Link. Anyone want to help me figure out a skin that would fit nicely as a "Master Sword"? Ƹ̵̡Ӝ̵̨̄Ʒ аІiсә User Aliceandsven 1.png ѕνәи Ƹ̵̡Ӝ̵̨̄Ʒ 01:44, 16 April 2010 (UTC)

So, can any one upload screens of that costumes? I'am interested in female monk screens >.>--I Unhealable I 03:59, 16 April 2010 (UTC)
Greater Highlander would be closest out of those options, just dye it purple (though the blade's metal appearance suffers). In my opinion the good ol' Long Sword dyed purple would fit the bill nicely, the hilt is a little long and thin, but the blade shape wins it over.--Neithan DiniemUser Talk:Neithan Diniem 04:48, 16 April 2010 (UTC)

2nd undocumented update[edit]

I just got it. Anyone know more? BlazeRick 04:57, 16 April 2010 (UTC)

"Fixes" to the costumes. I notice a forehead ornament on the female White Mantle Mitre that was missing before, the White Mantle Robes cape seems to have gained increased movement, and the large golden emblem seems to have been reduced in size somewhat. I don't notice any changes to the Shining Blade, though. Arshay Duskbrow 05:03, 16 April 2010 (UTC)

The 2nd one was 4 new recruits: 1 widow from Nebo Terrace, 2 brothers from Shaemoor (OR Loamhurst, can't remember) and a former WM that refused to kill Chosen and was banished. --talk Large 06:13, 16 April 2010 (UTC)
