Just wow

You may not be able to answer this, and I know I hate these types of questions, but how is it possible that someone has this much money? I mean, at that exchange rate that would be 67 stacks of ectoplasm. I feel like that person could single-handedly bottom out the GW economy if he/she wanted to. A) How does someone get that much money and B) Is this type of player at all a concern of the Live team? (Satanael | talk) 18:38, 16 December 2009 (UTC)

It is entirely possible that somebody could have that much money. Also there are players that have ebayed gold and were not banned because they contacted and admitted to Anet staff that they did so. I know of 2 people right off the top of my head. I could probably name about 10. User DrogoBoffin sig icon.png Drogo Boffin 18:48, 16 December 2009 (UTC)

(Reset indent) *Rolls eyes* Of course, I should have known I would get the "That's nothin' you should see my buddy, he has infinity money" response. That's not the point, I wasn't trying to say that this person has more money than anybody else. I'm just saying that it's too much, people shouldn't be able to accumulate that much wealth in the game, they become dangerous. And the ambrace guys aren't as dangerous as the ecto guys because ectos can be sold at a trader, which could drive the price of ectos down to nothing if they wanted to. (Satanael | talk) 21:01, 16 December 2009 (UTC)

I'm confused... So what you're saying is Ectos are our $USD? And This guy is China, who plans to sink the rest of our awful economy b/c we can't store enough Gold and Platinum anymore? Wouldn't that make ShadowFarmers "the Fed" then? If so, we could probably tag this question already answered according to Regina's last Journal >.> --ilrUser ilr deprav.png 22:24, 16 December 2009 (UTC)

I'll admit I don't know much about the GW economy, but how is it bad for items to become more affordable for more players? This is in reference to Sat's comment about the price of ectos getting driven down. That would, however, make them more accessible to more players, as I said, which I don't think would be a bad thing. I'm just asking, as it seems a bit odd that such a thing would be considered bad. --Nathe 01:34, 17 December 2009 (UTC)

You dont even have to buy gold. or do anything like that. just staying ahead of the game and paying attention to new farms. For instance, lets say this person had been solo-monking UW back when that was still do-able. Then after that he found out about perma. Then after that RR day. So on and so fourth. If you really think about it that much money isnt all that hard to get. it would take an annoyingly long ammount of grind sure, but its completely feasible to do on your own with no outside sources. i myself made 2 stacks of zkeys from a single solitary RR day. And zkeys and ectos are fairly close in price range. or were back when RR day was still around. >.> Briar 11:14, 17 December 2009 (UTC)
It's called inflation, and it's bad because everyone else that already has ectos and uses them for trade would suddenly have worthless items. Imagine if you had a stack of ectos you were planning to use to buy some super cool and really rare weapon that you wanted, and suddenly ectos could be purchased from traders at 100g, no one would accept your stack at a proper value and all that work farming them would be wasted.
Also, making ectos more affordable won't make things easier for the players that don't already have ectos, either, because the price change would only be temporary, but in that time a vast number of people would have purchased huge quantities of ectos. And all along the super rare weapons that cost 100k or more will still be super rare, but since so many people will be "rich" the price of those things will skyrocket. That will make it even more impossible for the people who didn't cash in on the ecto inflation to get the cool rare stuff they want. (Satanael | talk) 15:07, 17 December 2009 (UTC)

Satanel: A) It would be remiss of me to speculate on how random players spend their gaming time, so I'm not sure. B) If you have a specific person to report, you can submit a support ticket. --Regina Buenaobra User Regina Buenaobra sig.png 02:32, 18 December 2009 (UTC)

Real or not, this is EXACTLY a good reason why A.net adding this "feature" is more of a PITA than a benefit to anyone. It's *unreasonable* of them to expect someone to have to contact support. As I pointed out elsewhere, someone returning after some significant time away is rather likely to remember their user/pass, but not any character names. They'll just give up and try something else than have to deal with tech support. And they'll definitely feel resentment about in the future, say when GW2 comes around. --Emkyooess 17:48, 22 December 2009 (UTC)

While inconvenient for a few players, this security update is important because it will address the current issue, and help secure the accounts of a much larger number of players than it inconveniences. It's not going to please everyone, and we know that, but we have to balance different needs, the convenience of players and account security. There are other means which would have been as effective (or more), but it would have been much more inconvenient for players than this update. --Regina Buenaobra User Regina Buenaobra sig.png 20:02, 22 December 2009 (UTC)

why not call back the update for 2 day so players got a shot to get the names...! ---ce devilman---

Maybe cause they don't want to give a bunch of hackers the opportunity to quickly strip the accounts while they have the chance? honestly if you can't remember any char names at all, that's weird. -- Salome User salome sig2.png 00:20, 23 December 2009 (UTC)
I only have 6 characters and I couldn't remember exactly how ANY of them were written in-game because they're not exclusively GuildWars characters, they're characters I use for art & comics or other games, and Guildwars' fucked up naming system forced me to give them awkward variations on their names that I wouldn't remember anyway or even wanted in the first place. This is obviously a case where Anet totally jumped the gun and created a huge hassle when all they really needed to do was post a warning a week ago for everyone to write down atleast one of their character's names per account. That woulda been just enough warning w/o tipping off too many Phishers. --ilrUser ilr deprav.png 01:28, 23 December 2009 (UTC)

oh well got 1 of 2 acc back (armor storage)...lets see how PlayNC Support can help me get the realy good stuff back ---ce devilman---

Not being able to remember the name of a single character is way too weird, and even more suspicious. The great naming system GW has enforces names in the style of "Name Surname" and makes impossible stupid names like "D4rk-23||_L0P", yet still people make names like "Ill Asdf Ill" or "Ooo Fdsa Ooo". Most of my characters have names so long that use the name character limit or get pretty close to it, I remember all of them, yet I'm the person with the worst memory I can remember. And you can always contact a friend or guild member, so they give you the name that appears in the rooster or friend list. MithUser MithranArkanere Star.pngTalk 22:26, 23 December 2009 (UTC)

@Salome: As a person that has 35 accounts all being used for storage and such, it is not easy to remember all the names on each account. Anyways I will be contacting support soon, since I can remember 4 accounts character names and not the names on the rest of my 31 accounts. Toffin 02:59, 25 December 2009 (UTC)

Portal Jumping

Hey Regina,

I just have one question: Is Portal Jumping seen as exploiting? (and thus bannable?). Thanks, and a happy new year! Kinlo 16:33, 26 December 2009 (UTC)

What is portal jumping anyway ? Lilondra User Lilondra Sig.jpg 19:25, 26 December 2009 (UTC)
It's something we can use in Cartography to exceed the intended 100% title or to go to the edges of the World-Geometry that we weren't intended to. It is done by Shadow Stepping *PAST* a Zone-Portal's trigger area usually allowing you to walk into the next zone and explore portions of it with no mob/monster interference. However Anet itself has allowed certain parts of explorable areas to be explored to their "End of the World" Edges where all you see is huge empty space. 4 Examples are T.G.N.W. ,The Frost Gate, Spearhead Peak, and Marga Coast. --ilrUser ilr deprav.png 00:14, 27 December 2009 (UTC)
