You mean you want it to be something like User Neil Fan or User ScareCrow Fan or something along those lines? Just go to Template:User Neil Fan or Template:User ScareCrow Fan and then create that page and put the userbox code that you want onto/into that page, then when it's saved all you have to do is type User Neil Fan or User ScareCrow Fan and the userbox will come up. I can do it for you if you want. Just tell me what you want the template to be called. -- My Talk Lacky 13:39, 4 January 2010 (UTC)
User Neil2250 Freind , i suppose O_o,and if its not to much to ask, could you upload the picture in the box again so i can see how many people actualy keep them >_< --Neil2250 User Neil2250 sig icon5.jpg 13:44, 4 January 2010 (UTC)
You You mean you want the scarecrow picture under a different name? Alright, I can do it easily. Also, it's spelled "friend", not "freind". =P i before e. -- My Talk Lacky 13:48, 4 January 2010 (UTC)
Alright, your userbox template is done. Just use User Neil2250 Friend wherever you want the userbox to appear. -- My Talk Lacky 13:56, 4 January 2010 (UTC)

Deletion of wiki pages

With the addition of entering character names to login to the Guild Wars account I would like to request a total deletion of my wiki pages that have my character names. Changing the name isn't an option as it is archived and can be viewed. Sorry if this has been asked but I couldn't find anything about it. So my question is can these pages be deleted and if they can whom do I submit that request to? Empty Skull 16:18, 5 January 2010 (UTC)

Is it possible to create symlinks in a wiki? Ex., say I have a file I want to have 5 copies of, each named after the page it's on. Is there a way to point four of those five image files to the fifth, which is the only "real" image? Would it work if I just redirected the image page with no content? The idea is that if I have images A, B and C, I can upload A, link B & C to A and then have appear exactly the same way as . Ideally, linking C to B would also work and double redirect C to A,, but I don't really care about that. –Jette 22:23, 8 January 2010 (UTC)

because of how mediawiki works (I don't know why specifically), if the first character of a page (excluding the namespace) is a letter it auto capitalises it, so i could link to "user:a" and "user:A" and you'd end up at the same page. ~ PheNaxKian User PheNaxKian sig.jpg 00:45, 9 January 2010 (UTC)

Searching

How do I search to see if my question has already been asked and answered?

- I'm not too lazy to do some digging myself and I'm sure that some questions that I might have have already been asked and answered in the time that Editing Help has existed. Where and how do I try searching for this kind of information?

- Why I'm asking: I am trying to edit our guild's webpage because I need to update the names of the guilds who are members of our alliance. I can't figure out how to do that (I didn't create our guild's webpage, the original author is no longer active).

--Bag of Hammers 17:38, 9 January 2010 (UTC)

You're going to want to edit this page. So far as searching, just use the searchbox on the left, and if you don't find what you're looking for, try changing the places you're searching (as some namespaces aren't searched by default). -- FreedomBoundUser Freedom Bound Sig.png 17:54, 9 January 2010 (UTC)

Voting (RfA / RfR / etc) and number of contributions

Hi everyone. As far as I could understand from reading the rules, it seems that voting is open to every contributor (?), as I've even seen some IPs voting on RfAs. However I've observed something like "not enough qualified edits/contributions" somewhere (not exactly the wording but it seems the vote was not valid due to the user not having enough contributions).

Why and where that happens? How do I tell I can already vote on these processes? I can see my number of edits at 'my preferences' page but can't tell which ones would 'count' and which ones don't. I haven't tried voting anywhere yet, as I'm still getting to be more involved with the wiki, knowing how it works, etc, but would be nice to have this information for future use. Thanks in advance. --User Sensei sensei-sig.pngSensei | talk 18:33, 13 January 2010 (UTC)

Guild Question?

Several months ago, I created a guild page for my then brand-new guild. A few months later, my computer decided to be a twit and not allow me to play Guild Wars (long story, I'll save your eyes). I've just recently been able to get back to being able to play the game, so I very much expected an inactive Guild notice. Now, my question comes in with the phrasing on the box. 'This Guild article has not received any edits in over 3 months and also does not include a link to an accessible active website or forum.' I am... confused? Is my guild page inactive just because of the lack of edits, or has it been declared inactive because I have no website or forum? I looked over the policy page again, and an exterior site isn't a requirement for guild-wiki-page creation, so... er? Can I have some enlightenment here? Lady Chani 11:05, 2 February 2010 (UTC)

its called inactiev cause of no edits for a time you dont need a forum/ webpage but it can be uesd as substitute for edits i think cause it can show activity 127.0.0.1 11:14, 2 February 2010 (UTC)
If your guild is still active in game, you can simply remove the inactive tag to keep it from being archived as historical. Guild pages get tagged after 3 months of inactivity on the wiki, as long as they do not have an active forum linked. If you do have a forum linked, and there has been activity on the forum within the 3 month timeframe, your guild page will not be tagged as inactive. -- Wyn User Wynthyst sig icon2.png talk 12:11, 2 February 2010 (UTC)
Ah! That makes much more sense. The wording just made it sound complicatedly strange. Thank you for the swift assistance! Lady Chani 13:05, 2 February 2010 (UTC)

Screenshot or Anet image tag?

Hi, are user renders tagged as ArenaNet images (under ArenaNet item renders, ArenaNet NPC renders, and ArenaNet armor renders) or as screenshots? The term 'user render' in this situation refers to images that have the background removed to white space. Is it safe to assume given that user renders are edited screenshots, and are not provided by Emily Diehl and not extracted from the dat file that they are tagged as screenshots? Just trying to clear up confusion. Thanks. ~Celestia 08:37, 3 February 2010 (UTC)

User renders are screenshots. Renders are actually compiled of the textures using a rendering program, not simply "removing the background", and are supplied by Emily. -- Wyn User Wynthyst sig icon2.png talk 08:46, 3 February 2010 (UTC)

It means that your guild will be at Guild:Example guild (the Guild: part) –User Balistic Pve B d-dark.jpgalistic 16:51, 7 February 2010 (UTC)
To be more clear, it means that any guild pages created must be created with the prefix "Guild:" (Such as Guild:Example Guild) Obviously, the name of your guild would replace "example guild." An easy way to do this if you're unsure is to type /help within guildwars, and click the name of your guild, usually located at the bottom of the window. You'll automatically be taken to the proper location where your guild page should be. User Ryuu R.jpg Ryuu - talk 03:39, 9 February 2010 (UTC)

Btw, we aren't Arena-Net, nor Area-Net, the wiki is maintained by players. Tidas 20:21, 8 February 2010 (UTC)
Firstly, ^. Wiki isn't associated directly arena net, and generally anyone you talk to won't be directly affiliated with them. Secondly, images don't just generate via guild wars references by naming them "correctly." That would be far too easy. ^^" In order to get a cape emblem to appear within your guild page, you must either upload it here (with the proper naming, of course), and then link your newly uploaded image to the desired location (In your case, the guild information box.) An alternative to this would to be simply to click on File:Eagle_Cap_Emblem.png, and upload an image from there. Either way, you get the same results. User Ryuu R.jpg Ryuu - talk 03:32, 9 February 2010 (UTC)

Spelling British or American

I searched the wiki for this topic and other than failed policies I can't find anything concrete. Are we using American or British English spelling here? Is there a standard that should be followed? cause there are mixtures of spellings; like for the most part it seems to be in American English but for some like words with double ll, like travelling or cancelled, a lot of them seem to be in British English.  :-/ --Lania Elderfire 06:40, 23 February 2010 (UTC)

Since the game is in American English, it tends to be the same on here. -- My Talk Lacky 06:49, 23 February 2010 (UTC)
So there is no "actual" policy right? Is it okay for me to change a British spelling to American English on a page along with other edits and fixes to the article? And at the same time is it okay for someone else to change it back to British English on just one word on the article? --Lania Elderfire 06:53, 23 February 2010 (UTC)
There is no policy, however, it is just an accepted etiquette that articles are created using American English spelling. Changing from British to American English is perfectly fine. For example, since I am Australian, and I spell the word "colour" with a "u", it is perfectly acceptable to change it to the Americanised version of "color" in an article. Personally I am now accustomed to spelling it "color" now in articles, however, when I am writing an essay or something, I will use the correct spelling (in Australia) of "colour". -- My Talk Lacky 06:58, 23 February 2010 (UTC)
Well, I don't mean to pry but you did change an American spelling to British spelling probably inadvertently here [1] some of these spelling differences sure are subtle. And yes, "Canceled" is the correct American spelling for that word. --Lania Elderfire 07:09, 23 February 2010 (UTC)
This has been discussed on the wiki many times before. The mutual agreement among all active users is that articles are to be written in American English. Though there is no official policy in place. --71.193.48.146 07:12, 23 February 2010 (UTC)
Eh, I'm using FireFox so my spell checker picked it up, so I changed it. I don't know all of the American spellings of words, only a couple or so. I just assumed it was a double "l" in both languages. Feel free to change it back if you so wish. -- My Talk Lacky 07:16, 23 February 2010 (UTC)
As far as i remember, the concensus on this issue is to "leave things as they are". If the article was written as a whole using british english, then leave as it is. If the article was written as a whole using american english, then leave as it is. This, to prevent unnecesary revert wars.
Regarding content extracted from official sources (in-game, webpage, etc), the rule is also "leave as it is", even if it contains a mix of both spellings.
If an article as a mix of both american and british english, then for the sake of consistency people is allowed to change things around, as long as they change everything on the article accordingly.
Finnaly, people is discouraged from editing only to "change from one spelling to another". If you are doing a major rewrite of the article, though, minor changes in spelling shouldn't be an issue.--Fighterdoken 07:23, 23 February 2010 (UTC)
^Yes, you probably shouldn't edit an article just to fix up spelling errors (as in to do with the languages), try to to edit some of the content as well. -- My Talk Lacky 10:58, 23 February 2010 (UTC)

I am currently trying to ste up my player account on GW Wiki - however I am unable to edit my acocunt in any capacity - even though im correctly logged in.

The only thing that could possibly be an issue - is my partner ( and fellow GW gamer ) has recently set up an account also today. We are on a shared network in the house - could this cause a Ip address conflict/mixup to the extent i cannot set up my account page?

Many Thanks

Firstly, I need you to give a better description of your problem in order to help you. What exactly are you trying to edit? Your preferences? Or your user page? You seem to be able to edit perfectly fine, considering you managed to edit this page in order to ask for help. And, no, multiple users can actively utilize GWW via the same I.P. address without any conflicts, so long as you both remember to log-out correctly. User Ryuu R.jpg Ryuu - talk 16:05, 23 February 2010 (UTC)
ahh well its my user page? as well as my my talk?that seems to be inaccessible/uneditable even when my partner has completely logged out. Though when he logs in the link work perfectly fine and he is able to edit his pages. however it is completely possible i am being just like my namesake and being slightly muppetish :)

So if you click on this link, you are unable to edit it? -- Wyn User Wynthyst sig icon2.png talk 17:58, 23 February 2010 (UTC)
OMG how the hell??? I have no idea how you did that - cos when ive logged in and out as stated it never worked!!! ok just tried to use my normal link also - and the link still doesnt work :/ even though thanks to the link from Wynthyst i can access it - which is a great temporary fix, but still if i log in and out the link is inaccessable

Mups--Mups 17:59, 23 February 2010 (UTC)

What do you mean by your "Normal" link? The link to my talk at the top of the page? Also, are you and your roommate sharing a computer? and which browser are you using? -- Wyn User Wynthyst sig icon2.png talk 18:04, 23 February 2010 (UTC)
Since you do not yet have a userpage you will have to click Create. Create will take the place of the Edit tab since it hasnt been created. User DrogoBoffin sig icon.png Drogo Boffin 18:06, 23 February 2010 (UTC)

Sig Charts

Is there a chart somewhere of Color ID's and Acceptable (by wiki-format) fonts? Im looking for a specific color of red for my sig. Also, how would one manipulate the colors of skill icons? A third party program or can it be done on wiki? --Briar 12:24, 24 February 2010 (UTC)

Try 2 for colors. Fonts are dependent on what the viewer has installed (if they don't have the font, it will be seen as whatever font they have defaulted in their browser settings). Any image manipulation needs to be done off wiki with a 3rd party program. -- Wyn User Wynthyst sig icon2.png talk 12:37, 24 February 2010 (UTC)
Thanks. Cheers --Briar 12:39, 24 February 2010 (UTC)
You're welcome. -- Wyn User Wynthyst sig icon2.png talk 12:40, 24 February 2010 (UTC)
one more question, Where in the code do i add the details of altering the font? (before or after the color coding)--Briar 12:52, 24 February 2010 (UTC)
Take a look at my signature. -- FreedomBoundUser Freedom Bound Sig.png 12:56, 24 February 2010 (UTC)
I think you missed the point of my question, or i missed the point of your answer, I wanna change the font to Comic Sans, How would i do that? (feel free to move this to my talk page if having it here is problematic) --Briar 13:01, 24 February 2010 (UTC)
My signature, as opposed to Wyn's, has an altered font. Where mine says "Arial", change it to Comic Sans. -- FreedomBoundUser Freedom Bound Sig.png 13:08, 24 February 2010 (UTC)
Alright cool, So im trying to save it (the bottom one) and it wont let me. Says "Check HTML tags". Whats up with that? --Briar 13:20, 24 February 2010 (UTC)
Looks like you're opening four span styles and only closing one of them. -- FreedomBoundUser Freedom Bound Sig.png 13:24, 24 February 2010 (UTC)
I don't follow, How would i fix whatever is wrong with it? --Briar 13:26, 24 February 2010 (UTC)
Yeah, I don't really follow either. :P It doesn't seem to help to try to close the other ones, someone else will have to answer. A couple of things I can point out, though: extraneous text (your "flame me") is looked down upon, <big> tags are not allowed per the policy, and your signature image has to be your own (you can just upload a new version of that image to something like User Briar sig.jpg), so you can redirect it to either your user page or your talk page. -- FreedomBoundUser Freedom Bound Sig.png 14:02, 24 February 2010 (UTC)
KK will do --Briar 14:03, 24 February 2010 (UTC)

Unstackable items in the info box as Stackable? (Bag of Kournan Coins)

Goodday Wiki Watchers and Admins,

I was wondering if I could get some help with editing the Bag Of Kournan Coins item. This is an item that hasn't got a page yet, and I thought I could create one. But the problem is the following: The item isn't stackable. In the item info box, it says stackable?, but there isn't a stackable version of this item in the whole game.

What to tell on the wiki about this item, since it still deserves a place here :3.

I hope someone could help me out soon.

Youah Linn --The preceding unsigned comment was added by User:Youah Linn (talk).

Add stackable = no to the item infobox. If you create the page, I can edit it for you if you don't know how. An example. -- Arduin talk 14:52, 25 February 2010 (UTC)
You can check the valid inputs for templates by going to the appropriate template page. You can find these pages by clicking on "Transclusion list" on the bottom of the left-hand menu. The template in question here is Template:Item_infobox. Manifold User Manifold Jupiter.jpg 15:50, 25 February 2010 (UTC)

Suggestion : Damage over time skills

Is there a wiki suggestion page ? (Feedback namespace seems to be dedicated to game suggestions)
Otherwise : what about starting to list DoT skills (especially, discrete increment damage over time, actually). Elephant 20:49, 26 February 2010 (UTC)

You mean like a new category? -- FreedomBoundUser Freedom Bound Sig.png 20:56, 26 February 2010 (UTC)
This is what you are looking for. Add the list to the Skill quick reference, then link to the relevant section on each listed skill. Misery 21:06, 26 February 2010 (UTC)
Related skill listing : I don't think it would be appropriate to use that to list Seeping Wound with Weaken Knees and firestorm for example. And yes, this could be added to Skill quick reference, though this page is currently in a transitory state.
I meant having a listing in DoT page.
There are two ways doing that :
 1. A simple listing (and like Misery suggested, that could be skill quick ref page) that we link or include in DoT page.
 2. A DoT category + a dpl listing.
I think first idea is the most convenient, avoid adding a new category. Like List_of_skills_which_bypass_blocking Elephant 11:31, 27 February 2010 (UTC)

Hiding a certain user from RC

Is there a way to do this? The user in question only makes minor edits, and tags as such, but I don't want to hide all minor edits, only hers. - Mini Me talk 22:35, 27 February 2010

you might want to remove "some word here" and just have ' ' instead (I put "some word here" so you knew where to edit =p). A small note on this though, it hides the entries, not remove them, so if say I made 49 of the last 50 edits on RC and you had me under the removed section, only the edit I didn't make in RC would show up. ~ PheNaxKian User PheNaxKian sig.jpg 22:52, 27 February 2010 (UTC)
Thanks. I can't seem to get it to work though. Could you help me out one last time and please take a look and see what I'm doing wrong? - Mini Me talk 22:57, 27 February 2010
sorry i completly missed it earlier you also need to add:
addScript( 'User:Poke/GuildWarsWikiTools.js' );
gwwtLoadAfter = function ()
{
 clearRecentChanges();
}
before "function clearRecentChanges ()". sorry I missed that XD. ~ PheNaxKian User PheNaxKian sig.jpg 23:09, 27 February 2010 (UTC)
Thanks once again! - Mini Me talk 13:32, 28 February 2010
You don't necessarily need GWWT to run this. You can alternatively also use addOnloadHook( clearRecentChanges ); instead. poke | talk 17:03, 28 February 2010 (UTC)

Text fields on GWW

After playing around for awhile, I couldn't find a way to do this, so I figured I'd ask if it's even possible. Can you, with any method, add an empty text field on a GWW page? (Without a post availability, obviously.) I have my doubts about doing this, but again, I figured I'd ask. Thanks. User Ryuu R.jpg Ryuu - talk 18:27, 6 March 2010 (UTC)

discussion

i found a suggestion for GW2 and i want to comment on it. theres no box saying something like,"type...... here" so you can talk. how do i say something about it?--Filter95 00:54, 11 March 2010 (UTC)

Simply click the "Discussion" tab, between the article and edit tabs in the upper left of the page, and you'll be taken to a talk page where you can leave your comments, not unlike this page right here. Every wiki page has a talk page. If the talk page link is red that means that no one commented on it yet, and you can be the first one. Roar! Poki#3 (talk) 01:05, 11 March 2010 (UTC)

Player's names

Skill_balance What is gww policy, should they get blurred or is wiki ok with screenshots with random people's name ? Elephant 18:10, 11 March 2010 (UTC)

I don't believe there is a policy, and having the character names doesn't really pose a risk since the associated email address isn't available. -- FreedomBoundUser Freedom Bound Sig.png 18:22, 11 March 2010 (UTC)
Think about how many people have their characters profiled here and ask that again... :P -- Wyn User Wynthyst sig icon2.png talk 18:41, 11 March 2010 (UTC)
Well, the linked article has the character names of people that don't necessarily know that they're featured on GWW, as opposed to those individuals that choose to list out their characters here on their user pages. -- FreedomBoundUser Freedom Bound Sig.png 18:52, 11 March 2010 (UTC)
Have you searched for all the names listed and confirmed that they're not on this wiki, or for that matter on fansites where people might use the same email address and password (and we all know where it went from there)? I'd blur them just to be safe, both on the hacking side and the privacy side, regardless of whether policy dictates it. --Kyoshi (Talk) User Kyoshi sig.png 19:05, 11 March 2010 (UTC)
TBH, both of those images don't really add anything necessary to the article, one of them has a french user-interface showing, and they were meant to show how A/E's overshadowed others in certain outposts, which is no longer true after the nerf to SF, so they should probably just be removed and deleted. But, back to the original question, which was, "is there a policy", the answer is no, and proposals to change that can probably go here. -- FreedomBoundUser Freedom Bound Sig.png 19:25, 11 March 2010 (UTC)

Forgot my pwd on GWwiki an no email

Hi, I have a problem with my account, I can't remember my password, I tried a lot of them and I didn't give an email adress so I can't have a tip or something to help me. I'm the user Khimera, I need further to edit my user page to use the template of my brand new guild like the others players. What can I do? Create a new account? But what about my old page? -- --The preceding unsigned comment was added by 90.60.18.53 (talk).

As far as I know, there's no way that anyone else on GWW can help you recover your password once you've lost it. If you've already tried every possible password, I'd advise that yeah, you should probably make a new account. As for your old page, I beleive you'd be able to have your contributions, and pages merged with your new account (although, I can't seem to find the page for requesting this, sorry.) Though, without actually being able to confirm that you're that user, that may not be an option. If you're only concerned for your user page, and not your contributions, I suggest you simply copy the page over to the new account, and edit it accordingly. User Ryuu R.jpg Ryuu - talk 15:25, 16 March 2010 (UTC)

Altering the navigation bar on my userpage

For a long time I have wanted my navigation bar to be visible on all my pages so that you don't have to go back to the first page to navigate to another. User:Lensor has the kind of navigation that I want but when I copied and pasted this into mine it stated template loop detected and won't show the navbar anymore. How can I fix this to make it work? Thanks.
