An artisan is a NPC that crafts rare crafting materials in exchange for crafting materials and gold. The rare materials they offer to craft vary from artisan to artisan.

The cost of a rare materials from a rare material trader can be lower or greater than the combined cost of the crafting materials and gold an artisan requires. This can make a great difference in the cost of crafting equipment that requires a large amount of rare crafting materials. For example, Silk requires 10 Cloth, 10 Dust and 250 Gold to craft, but can be purchased from a rare material trader for far less. On the other hand, Parchment requires 5 Wood and 20 Gold to craft, which is often less in total than from the trader.

Artisans are usually found in explorable areas (with rare exceptions) so be prepared to take your money and crafting material outside of town.
