Getting back a lost quest item?

I accidentally lost a primary quest item for "To Kryta: Journey's end" which would be the letter to the ambassador, I guess because he was positioned behind me and I didn't have the quest selected for some reason I never noticed he was right behind me! I went back to see if talking with Aiden, who gives you the quest would help but he does not replace the letter as I had hoped. Is there a way to get this item back so that I can clear this quest off my list? any help is appreciated, thanks! --68.39.138.186 20:51, 31 March 2009 (UTC)

Try abandoning the quest and retaking it from Aidan, that should fix it. WhyUser talk:Why Are We Fighting 23:36, 31 March 2009 (UTC)
According to To Kryta: Journey's End article, you can't (re)take that quest once you've beaten Gates of Kryta.
But since reward is merely 500XP, don't worry about it. :P
If you really want to get the item back (and still have the quest in your quest log, but have done the mission), try trading with someone else. --NIN37 01:20, 1 April 2009 (UTC)

--response from question asker: because it is a primary quest i can't take that approach unfortunately. any other possibilities?

--response again: thanks for the tip, probably would have trouble willing to trade that item but ur probably right about that LOL just seems silly that its more or less impossible to finish now!

Or you could just abandon the quest and move on with the game. Unlike the Factions and Nightfall campaigns, most Prophecies primaries are not required to continue the storyline (including To Kryta: Journey's End). As NIN said, the only reward is 500 EXP, which is very easy to get via other means. In order to abandon a quest, enter a town or outpost (as this cannot be done in the field), press L, click on the quest you wish to abandon, and click the blue Abandon button (seen in this image here). This completely removes it from your L menu quest log thingy. --Dragon Nataku talk to me 20:18, 1 April 2009 (UTC)

GW vs GW2 suggestion

my question concerns the whole OGW and GW2 concept.

To be honest with you i dont think im going to like GW2 all that much, but i still wanna play GW. so my question is i think it wouldnt hurt to think of the ppl who might not like GW2 as much as they do OGW. For instance maybe instead of saying hey there not going to be anything new with OGW if u want sumthin new your going to have to buy GW2. I think Arenanet should maybe make somehow some more expansions for OGW, maybe acouple of expansions that are based on the road to GW2, that way everyone like me that likes the way the OGW is set up can still have new stuff to look forward to. Contact me at <email removed by managerial typo gnomes>

1) Please do not post your question in someone else's unrelated topic. 2) See that nifty red box that follows you up and down this page that says "We are NOT Arenanet"? Yeah... 3) Please do not post your email address unless you enjoy getting lots of spam emails. 4) If you wish to bring something to Anet's attention, please click on the "ArenaNet Interaction" link on the left-hand side of this page. --Dragon Nataku talk to me 20:22, 1 April 2009 (UTC)

Town ownership

How do you own a town in factions, and how do you get to choose what town you get?

I have tried to find it and can't anywhere. Any help will be greatly appreciated.--65.26.129.32 01:12, 2 April 2009 (UTC)

To own a town in Factions, an alliance has to acquire an insane amount of faction. The Alliances with the highest amounts of accumulated faction are designated owners of each specific town. --Wyn's Talk page Wyn 01:40, 2 April 2009 (UTC)
I posted a lot of info about that here, though it still has to be included in a page somewhere. Might be worthwile to take a look at. WhyUser talk:Why Are We Fighting 02:03, 2 April 2009 (UTC)

Marhan's Grotto

ok. when i got a run to marhan's groto, there was no NPCs there, my friend told me to try to reload the game, but it still didn't work. Why won't they show up, and how do i get them to show up?--75.117.178.120 01:46, 2 April 2009 (UTC)

stupid things

IM a player of Guild Wars and I am very mad. Because I have at least 8 people in my party and I was fighting only 2 monks and it took me like an hour just to kill them I don't think this game has the right tricks or they just screwed up the game to make us all pissed off. 173.33.143.42 01:53, 2 April 2009 (UTC)

The key to fighting monks is to interrupt their skill use so they can't heal each other, and to overwhelm them with high damage. --Wyn's Talk page Wyn 02:11, 2 April 2009 (UTC)
Could you be more specific? Where are you? If you're having trouble with Dolyak Masters, removing Mark of Protection should help. The only Prophecies henchman with enchantment removal capabilities is Dunham. -- User Gordon Ecker sig.png Gordon Ecker (talk) 03:03, 2 April 2009 (UTC)
this sounds like something you cant blame the game or a-net... sounds like you and your party didnt have the right build to kill them... if you will ever make a monk yourself and you learn how to farm with him... you will know what i mean.

Gender Changer

It was talked about briefly a while back, but I was wondering if a Gender Changer will or has been implimented in Guild Wars.? --67.189.0.111 03:56, 2 April 2009 (UTC)

No clue. This page is for asking questions about game play. We are only players like you. If you wish to ask about game status/items you should post your questions to ArenaNet Community Relations --Wyn's Talk page Wyn 04:05, 2 April 2009 (UTC)
The only gender change that ever occurred was the april fools update two years ago. WhyUser talk:Why Are We Fighting 18:51, 2 April 2009 (UTC)

Thanks but why couldnt they just do the same thing or idea but forever using an NPC? --67.189.0.111 22:59, 2 April 2009 (UTC)

Because they have chosen not to. --Wyn's Talk page Wyn 23:04, 2 April 2009 (UTC)
From what I gathered from their comments after that update, they had to hardcode the gender change (or rewrite a part of the game engine, something like that) so it's not easy for them to preform on single characters. Hence that is probably the reason why they don't allow character recustomisation. WhyUser talk:Why Are We Fighting 23:03, 5 April 2009 (UTC)

Animate Flesh Golem

The April Update suggests that you can have more than 1 Golem at a time. Does this mean more than one golem in the party or can Masters of Whispers, for example, control 2 or more Golem at one time.

Cheers --91.194.221.225 15:49, 3 April 2009 (UTC)

The April 1st update was an April Fool's joke, none of those changes actually appear in the game.--Wyn's Talk page Wyn 15:51, 3 April 2009 (UTC)

Verata's Aura in The cursed lands and in the black curtain.

There are a lot of undead in those areas that make undead minions. Why does Verata's aura seem to work sometimes in Nebo, but not at all on the minions of the undead in the Cursed Lands and the Black Curtain? (PS yes I have above 5 Death Magic).

Thanks! 98.163.94.52 19:46, 3 April 2009 (UTC)

Spell range and the fact that enemy mobs will steal minions as well? --NIN37 23:54, 3 April 2009 (UTC)
Yes, you can get a good idea of the range you can capture minions by checking out the rings on the Isle of the Nameless. Biscuits User Biscuits sig.png 00:54, 4 April 2009 (UTC)

I am getting error code 058. How do you fix this. --69.138.247.78 18:23, 5 April 2009 (UTC)

According to the Error code page, 058 corresponds to a connection issue. Check your internet setting and make sure your firewall is not blocking GW from running. --User Wandering Traveler Sig2.png Wandering Traveler 22:03, 5 April 2009 (UTC)

Using the wiki is no more intensive on your downloading than any other website, and considerably less that some since we have no videos, flash, or those kinds of large files. Most pages are under 1mb. --Wyn's Talk page Wyn 10:49, 9 April 2009 (UTC)
A typical page is less than 30kB. A full screen image may be 150kB. Add up how much you view. Although no normal user should have any reason whatsoever to worry about that. Backsword 10:50, 9 April 2009 (UTC)

first off why cant i edit my own question ... say over five hours of strait game play (this is to mind ease my father) thank you --124.168.161.42 10:54, 9 April 2009 (UTC)

First:You can edit "your Question" by clicking the [edit] Link at the right. About the Traffic several hours of Guildwars produce I honestly dont know. However I once estimated the Traffic of one hour of BF2 to around 50 MB. Given that Guildwars should need to transfer way less Data (its only 8 Players) I would expect it to be less. However the best way to know is to get some little Tool that measures how many Data your PC sends / receives and run it while playing GW. Dazed or Bleeding

Hello, anyone I have a weapon and I don't know which condition is better Dazed or Bleeding condition, or are they just the same? and I am wondering what is Dazed condition anyway? I also, want to know how much damage will Dazed condition do? 173.33.143.42 23:48, 11 April 2009 (UTC)

Dazed Bleeding After careful review, you should come to the conclusion that Dazed is usually better against things with spells and Bleeding is always better against things without spells. --Jette User Jette awesome.png 23:51, 11 April 2009 (UTC)
Dazed is usually a much more dangerous condition for casters. However, it's a lot more difficult to inflict, as there are few skills that cause it and most are elite, highly conditional, or both. Bleeding is a much more common condition. ¬ Wizårdbõÿ777(talk) 03:14, 12 April 2009 (UTC)
Please note that, usually, you'll need to actively use a skill to inflict either condition, so, check your current build to see what upgrade is more useful for you. Dazing makes spell-casters take double the time to cast their spell (and if they get hit mid-while casting a spell, it gets interrupted). Bleeding makes enemy lose HP through time (health degeneration), making them easier/faster to be killed.
Also, keep in mind that self-inflicted conditions (for example, Headbutt and Signet of Agony) will have their duration increased if you're holding such upgrades while using them.--NIN37 02:44, 14 April 2009 (UTC)

Igneous Summoning Stone

I have bought all the account upgrades for my Guildwars account and are unable to recieve the Igneous Summoning Stone for an Imp for my character/s.

Am typing /bonus, only the 1 Million Upgrage weapons appear (Soul Shrieker, Rhino's Charge etc)

Any ideas whats going on here??

--121.213.181.5 10:18, 12 April 2009 (UTC)

Are you below level 20? Only characters below 20 can use it. Biscuits User Biscuits sig.png 13:01, 12 April 2009 (UTC)
Level 20 characters should still get the item. But it would be totally useless (double-clicking will show an error message saying your level should be lower than 20 to be able to use that item).
Hmm... IIRC, the Igneous Summoning Stone is tied to the Guild Wars 2008 Upgrade (check FAQ to find out what upgrades you have unlocked into your account).
Also, AFAIK, 1 Million Upgrade and Game of the Year were made available at the beginning of 2008, while Guild Wars 2008 Upgrade was released at the end of 2008. So, if you've bought your game in a physical store, chances are you've got the 1 Million Upgrade without the 2008 Upgrade.
My suggestion would be: check the Guild Wars In-Game Store and see if 2008 upgrade is still buy-able (i.e., you haven't purchased it yet). If it's grayed out (with an "already purchased" note) and you still can't get the summoning stone, your best choice would be contacting support. Best of luck. --NIN37 02:16, 14 April 2009 (UTC)

Getting past the gates in Bazaar

Ok so i just completed NF, and im in The market place, but the gates to other outposts and towns are all locked, how do i open all of them? I didnt recieve the quest/mission"mayhem in the market", so what do i do now...? --41.18.82.220 19:26, 12 April 2009 (UTC)

As a non Factions character you will not receive Mayhem in the Market, you need to do Welcome to Cantha instead. --Wyn's Talk page Wyn 20:08, 12 April 2009 (UTC)
Just to add slightly to what Wyn said, if you recall in NF you could not start a mission (or even have the town marker turn into a mission outpost marker on the map) until you had gotten far enough in the storyline, i.e., completed a certain primary. Factions came before Nightfall, and their solution to the "get run through most of the game" problem from Prophecies was to just have all of the gates closed to all places until you've gotten far enough in the campaign, instead of the "complete this primary" solution in NF. Soooo... long story short, once you get far enough in the Factions storyline, some of those closed gates will open. --Dragon Nataku talk to me 21:20, 13 April 2009 (UTC)
Alternatively, you could talk to First Mate Xiang in Kaineng Docks. He will take you to Seitung Harbor on Shing Jea Island. There you can do the first two missions Minister Cho's Estate and Zen Daijun (you will have to find these based on the map, as no quest will take you there). After doing these missions, you can tag along with a native group to do Mayhem in the Market, which will bring you to the local quarter of Vizunah Square (whereas doing Welcome to Cantha takes you to the foreign quarter). Reinstalling

Would completely reinstalling Guild wars (using or not using -image?) sort out many lag problems, sometimes I will DC and even if I wait a few mins then press reconnect, it wont and take me back to login screen. Also some other time when I am inactive for a short while (such as browsing the web or being a smiter in a 600/smite team) I will come back and lag like hell. I have a 4meg broadband wired connection. What are your views on these problems and what should I do to help solve or make these problems a bit better? --Sam6555 09:25, 15 April 2009 (UTC)

Don't know if it helps, but sometimes when I minimize the GW window and go browsing, every NPC and PC jumps about the screen like lag too. Don't really know, I don't think reinstalling would help though. You could always try. WhyUser talk:Why Are We Fighting 15:15, 15 April 2009 (UTC)
Hmm, okay thnx. I'll wait till tomorrow or whatever, see if I get a more definate answer. If not, i'll just go ahead and reinstall it :) --Sam6555 15:23, 15 April 2009 (UTC)
One possible reason for lag is client side fragmentation. This is where the gw.dat file becomes quite large over time and is scattered(fragmented) across multiple parts of the hard drive. Currently, on one computer I am running, the fragmentation hit a bad bit or something in the gw.dat file got messed up and now all my characters carry weapons as if they were a ritualist item spell. Reinstalling could clear up some lag issues. Also, check in your task manager to see if any other programs are taking up system/network resources. Finally, if all else fails, turn your graphics down. Reinstalling, with the -image, should reduce fragmentation. Also, there is a tool somewhere, gwguru has it I think, and it restructures the file to reduce fragmentation. Althouh, with 4meg broadband, you are probably not getting that much bandwidth. Due to networking constraints, and the advertising slogans, 4meg is your optimal. Meaning that, you might be only getting 200kb/sec. While surprisingly small compared to the 4meg, it shouldn't make too much difference, as the gw servers are only going to serve stuff up so fast. In conclusion, reinstalling may help the lag issues, but you might want to try other solutions first. User Kyle van der Meer Sig Pic.pngKyle van der Meer 12:36, 16 April 2009 (UTC)
200kb/sec is more than enough to run GW effectively. Also, fragmentation isn't going to cause any problems with Gw.dat (if you are seeing the wrong skins etc., then it is corrupted, which is not the same as simple harmless file fragmentation). Can you play any other online games OK without and bad latency? If you decide to reinstall, I'd keep a copy of your existing Gw.dat anyway, to restore from backup if it turns out the problem is not solved. Biscuits User Biscuits sig.png 12:58, 16 April 2009 (UTC)
Thanks Kyle, I think I will reinstall after the storage update as that will probably be fairly big, and I wouldn't want that part to add to the 'fragmentation'. And the whole using weapons as if they were holding a weapon spell sounds funny. :P Just think wielding daggers and just bashing them round the head. :P --Sam6555 15:03, 16 April 2009 (UTC)

Stuck no primary quest

I'm in the Kodunur crossroads and have been asked to make sure that I get my four legged friend to surrender with us, acknowledging that he arrived with us however he was no where about and had not been killed, After hours I eventually found him back at the Command center when I try speaking to him he does not acknowledge the quest at all. I have tried going back to Lonai to get her to give me the quest again but to no avail. Help do not know how to continue......

I have the Guild Wars Triology edition. I currently have a character in Factions that I wanted to bring to the main quest in Prophecies. I can travel to Lions Arch, but I want to go to Ascalon City and to the main quest. I havn't finished the main quest in Factions yet. Please let me know if I can do this. --Alchemy1985 18:40, 15 April 2009 (UTC)Charles

You have to add the Zhed Shadowhoof hero to your party to enter the mission. You should have unlocked him by completing the quest Centaur Blackmail. You will need to "run" your character backwards through Tyria from Lion's Arch to reach Ascalon. --Wyn's Talk page Wyn 07:05, 16 April 2009 (UTC)

Thanks so much for answering my question....duh! feel a bit stupid did not realise he was a hero!!! and all I had to do was search in my party. Onwards..... --The preceding unsigned comment was added by 94.3.141.132 (talk).

Also, please note that a Factions character (or Nightfall, for that matter) starting the Prophecies storyline from Ascalon city will not get any EXP from doing the missions or bonuses, and will have very few (if any) quests available to them until around Lion's Arch in the storyline. So the only point in going back to Ascalon on a non-Prophecies character is if you want to try to get the Protector of Tyria title. --Dragon Nataku talk to me 14:15, 16 April 2009 (UTC)
