<3333333, that is all. ~ WELL HELLO Chao 23:06, 22 October 2009 (UTC)
Eh. I'd rather have gotten an update that fixed some of the more blaring problems (consumables, HA maps, any of over a thousand broken skills, or anything else more important than bad AI in easy PvE). -- Armond WarbladeUser Armond sig image.png{{Bacon}} 23:07, 22 October 2009 (UTC)
As someone who H/Hs everything and refuses to use consumables or summons, this just made Hard Mode (which I prefer, because Normal Mode is indeed too easy) a hopefully more enjoyable challenge, rather than an exercise in cursing your henches' inadequacy. Arshay Duskbrow 23:14, 22 October 2009 (UTC)
I like most of the changes to the henchie builds, except for the removal of Ward Against Elements on Herta. That's part of why I liked her so much. ^_^;--174.130.129.212 23:12, 22 October 2009 (UTC)

^ This. I run balanced heroes, not OP gimmicks. Arshay Duskbrow 23:35, 22 October 2009 (UTC)
Then it's you who is creating challenge by creating artificial restrictions, not Hard Mode actually being hard. Vili 点 User talk:Vili 23:36, 22 October 2009 (UTC)
If that's what it takes. It's not as if doing it like that makes me more "skillful"; "Skill" and "PvE" have no relationship, because of course any PvE in the game can be steamrolled with the right preparation. I just like a challenge, even if I have to create my own. After all, Sealed Deck is itself an "artificial restrictions" format. Arshay Duskbrow 23:41, 22 October 2009 (UTC)
Yes, but those are unbreakable restrictions imposed by ANet, not voluntary ones invented by the player. Vili 点 User talk:Vili 23:58, 22 October 2009 (UTC)

Yea,but now we have a poweblock mesmer in prophecies.--Wealedout 00:46, 23 October 2009 (UTC)
Yeah! No flashy stuff, but everything is good!
  • The henchmen I select with my ele are always: 1 for protection, 1 for disable, one for extra damage and Eve for her energy recovery and armor ignoring damage. Now I have the interruption one in Prophecies too! But I don't like the Changes in Alesia, they should have added a new healer henchman, and left Alesia with an even worse build, with only touches, signets and slow casting skills as an inside joke.
  • All fixes in the Underworld are good news. Still a bit hard to get all quests for those that don't have more than 2 hours to make them, but good enough to prevent losing them die to some NPC wandering around.
  • Codex Arena? Now that's what I call PvP!!! No more stupid trends, no more PvXWiki build of the month! Now you can REALLY show what can do with whichever skills they give you! It's "Here, have a pointed stick, a baloon, a grenade and a bag of clips, go get them! - Can I have the MP5? - NO!!". Isn't it Great?
And now Zaishen coins have more good uses that people surely will go for, so they may could ease the acquisition of bags... MithUser MithranArkanere Star.pngTalk 01:33, 23 October 2009 (UTC)

Wastes, Vale, and Pits[edit]

Servants of Grenth spawns groups of terrors on both sides of King Frozenwind (Ice King), in the middle as normal, and to the North of the reaper spawn. The three groups Graspings pop up like Nightmares in Vale. The Terrors that spawn during the Pits quest now spawn on the bridge, Shadow of Haste is highly recommended. Tbh, I appreciate the PvE Henchmen work (where are the PvP henchmen?) and the halloween update could be huge for all we know (depending on how they balanced Costume Brawl and the Underworld quests). But still....it is a bit of a disappointment.
But what did you expect? We were supposed to get a content update 4 months from April...it gets delayed...excuses....terrible henchmen contest....excuses....RR day....excuses.....and now a mediocre content update. How can you not expect this? Karate User Karate Jesus KJ for sig.png Jesus 02:09, 23 October 2009 (UTC)
The codex arena is kinda crap and only for PvP goldbordered Guilds. Nice to have limited builds, but there is no cap after 25 wins and you have to search and build your own group, nothing for casual gamers. It's the second Rank requiering PvP area. Dissapointing... :( --Kali Shin Shivara 02:22, 23 October 2009 (UTC)
Honestly, the only thing that really matters to me in this update is SD, the rest are some insignificant game mechanics or features that don't concern me in the slightest bit. I won't mind at all if SD is implemented properly. Pika Fan 02:27, 23 October 2009 (UTC)

To be entirely honest, I don't spend time reading those Journals, I spend time playing this game. In addition, I'm talking about PvP. The henchmen changes I don't care about, they still attacked the target and triggered Mark of Pain when I last saw. I'm mainly talking about Hero Battles but Team Arena applies too. Hero Battles was THE place for people who could think on their own (despite PvX wiki destroying some of this) and they had to know how to use their own Heroes and come up with a strategy. Team Arenas was a good place for you and your friends to go so that you could work together. Granted some of the Hero Battle and Team Arena builds were the same. ^^

Then there's the new Codex Arena. Oh how do I start this? Hmmm...let's see, it's a Costume Brawl except you still look like you AND it changes daily. So... you couldn't take some suggestions on fixing the PvP-only skills to be merged with their old PvE version skills so you had to...get rid of a title and keep making more PvP-only skills. Well, this is weird.

Random Arena oh boy this is a tough one. But don't worry, I know the perfect build for this you guys. Dervish/Necromancer Minion Master! Genius, I am pure genius. Get a full team of these Aura of the Lich Enchantment users and you will be INDESTRUCTABLE!!! Mwahhaha I am a genius. Ignore the people that are curious of your build and constantly insult it because they consider it "crappy" or "bad." Oh how fun the people who are trying to get a Gladiator title will have with these guys. Plus, don't people leave after they finish their Random Arena Zaishen Quest? Isn't that just a tad bit slower than RR day? Than 02:32, 23 October 2009 (UTC)

HB is for people who can think about who to resign out on their own. Corrected. Pika Fan 02:37, 23 October 2009 (UTC)

No, sorry Pika I can't agree with that and that's not what I was trying to say. That was only on the RR-day Zaishen Quests. In addition, I didn't see the need to completely screw over a title because of a quest. In my opinion, remove the quest. :) They removed Tolkano for 6 months because the Xunlai House is down, I don't understand why they can't take out a quest. I think that's a simpler solution that can prevent people from RR-ing in Hero Battles and bring back the legitimate players. Than 02:44, 23 October 2009 (UTC)

/roll ing disagrees with you. Now, gtfo. Pika Fan 03:17, 23 October 2009 (UTC)
Also, poorly formatted wall o' texts are hard to read and don't convey your point. Karate User Karate Jesus KJ for sig.png Jesus 03:18, 23 October 2009 (UTC)

In the 379 Hero Battles I have played, I can guarantee you less than 5 of those games have had /roll requests. Like many builds, it works but is out of date.

The removal of the Hero Battles quest (as it is now) would also remove the /roll because people wouldn't and mainly legit players would be participants of Hero Battles.

Then there's the non-tournament hero battles in which people usually ASK if they want to roll. At least that's what I've run into in my 379 games.

Sorry about the wall of text. Than 03:21, 23 October 2009 (UTC)

More people have testified that the problem is rampant rather than not, so I wonder who is right. *Hint hint* Try counting, and remember what happened in mATs. Edit: Oh btw, there's no drawback for PvP-only skills other than the fact that it is balanced for PvP and PvE(in theory). Quit QQing about a system that works. Pika Fan 03:28, 23 October 2009 (UTC)
So people are asking if they wanted to roll. Thanks, you just shot yourself in the foot because that directly refers to match fixing. Please, amuse me more. Pika Fan 03:31, 23 October 2009 (UTC)

I think the removal of the quest would prevent the RR-day since there would be no reward except 1 win to your record to achieve, which doesn't even require the quest for. I also don't know what mATs are, mind informing me?

I believe most of the PvP - PvE skills can be settled. I'm not entirely happy with the way they are now, but I am able to deal with them. It's a suggestion, not a demand. Plus, back in the olden days, I recall entire skill changes, not skills being separated into PvP & PvE and now I'm seeing more PvP - PvE splits which makes me think that PvP skills will be a whole new set when we enter a PvP outpost. It would disable the annoying messages that say a skill has been changed for PvP purposes.

I've only run into that 5 times of my 379 games. It may be a fixed game but it doesn't occur when I continued to the other 374 games. Now I'll never find out if it still continues since Hero Battles doesn't really exist anymore. Than 03:42, 23 October 2009 (UTC)

Naturally, you might be all high and mighty and above all that "match-fixing" crap, but it doesn't change the fact that only a minority plays "fair". Secondly, skills balanced for PvP will usually become underpowered in PvE, and those balanced for PvE will become overpowered in PvP. I have seen some arguments about balancing all skills around GvG, but honestly, that leaves very little choice in PvE and you are forced to take PvE skills, which is dumb. PvE is meant to be easy; you should be able to take any crappy skill bar and do NM at the very least without being punished by it. Pika Fan 13:19, 23 October 2009 (UTC)
Oh, and mAT = Monthly Automated Tournament, where the HB part of it sees their best players hold hands, make friends and /resign to let the other win.Pika Fan 13:22, 23 October 2009 (UTC)

Hmmm, it seems a majority plays fair in the several games I played until the update. As for the PvE debate, I don't think a 15 second recharge compared to a 10 second one is going to kill you in PvE. As for the mAT's, I have seen them (which is where my build sometimes derive from) and the games I've seen in the PAST have had /resigners but recent games I haven't seen problems like that. Unless one team is snareway and the other is sin-kills. Than 21:39, 24 October 2009 (UTC)

Content Update?[edit]

So, was this the July/August content update? 1 new PvP arena, a few small changes in the Underworld and some henchmen skill bar changes. I think the april update was way better even though I can't/won't use half the features (name change, appearence change, extra xunlai tabs). Etienne 15:07, 23 October 2009 (UTC)

Actually we have less content now, with TA and Hero Arena removed. All we got is some lame Codex Arena, just TA with skill limitations. Wow big deal. They should've put their effort into balancing the skills, and fixing HA and GvG ( or atleast try to ). Which pretty much all PvPers would've preferred. SniperFoxUser SniperFox IconSmall.gif 15:40, 23 October 2009 (UTC)
agree on bad update. Codex should have been random, like in random arena, not team arena like and Shadow Form still not nerfed. sigh.
I agree, if they added random codex arena and reversed the removal of Hero Battle ( which they had no reason for at all ) it would be a pretty decent update. Still not great though, as there are still many glaring balance issues and cookie cutter builds around. SniperFoxUser SniperFox IconSmall.gif 16:13, 23 October 2009 (UTC)

They might aswell remove PvE then, biggest unbalance fest ever. Anyway I agree HB was broken, they could've used this update to fix it, and fix the many other balance issues of PvP. Removing both TA and HB just to replace it with a limited version of TA is not really what I call a big improvement or content update for PvP. Dissapointed, but it was to be expected. He still only lets you use PvP weapons for equipment art.  :/ That means you still can't actually get the unique weapons on PvE characters, which kind of ruins the whole point... anybody know if that's a bug as well? –Jette User Jette awesome.png 21:14, 23 October 2009 (UTC)
Purchase Rewards->Basic/Fancy/Exotic Weapon->Which weapon you want to upgrade (ex: PvP Spear)->Skin you want to upgrade to (ex: Serrated Spear); I think you only saw PvP <<Weapon>> and thought you couldn't replace it. Ofc, I could be wrong XD HarunoMidori 21:25, 23 October 2009 (UTC)

It didn't fix the bugged Tolkano that still wants you to have stupid tournament points, that's for sure. --Taki Fujiko 00:51, 23 October 2009 (UTC)
CODEX FTL Been here what 2 hours and its already mini-meta, or Profession of the day if you prefer. Instead of dis-encoraging the build wars its created a min version. This is a smaller version of what we already have. now its just gonna discriminate professions daily. everyone is already only accepting mesmers and Conjure Flame Dervs. this is as much garbage as what it replaced. they should have done daily skill bars instead of random skills that dont synergize at all. just my opinion, but I wont be playing this any more. a couple hours is all you need to see. 71.85.106.56 01:42, 23 October 2009 (UTC)
Wait. You have to form a team? *Facepalm*. The whole point of sealed deck is to remove the tendency to go for 'the best possible combination', and forget about everything else. If you let people form teams instead entering randomly, people will go for the best possible combination anyways and leave out what doesn't fit that. For one day instead having that combination for two months, but still the same. And here I was getting my hopes up... MithUser MithranArkanere Star.pngTalk 02:10, 23 October 2009 (UTC)

Aion < GW1 | 72 User Seventy two Truly Random.jpg {U|T|C} 02:40, 23 October 2009 (UTC)
Yup you have to form a team it works like this... you have 21 daily random skills for both professions to choose from.. you can only use elites from your primary profession. then you form a team of 4 players. then its a 4V4 team arena match. this is exactly team arena with 21 random skills. On top of profession of the day now people are only parting Gladiator ranks...LFG REQ R-5-4-3 ECT. This hits FAIL in a BIG BIG way after only 2 hours.I dont think many PvE players are gonna be won over for sure. and I think within 2 months this codex will be a ghost town. 71.85.106.56 02:52, 23 October 2009 (UTC)
They have the right idea, they just have no idea how to make it work. Also, someone better already did it, and it worked perfectly. -- Tha Reckoning User Tha Reckoning Sig.png 03:10, 23 October 2009 (UTC)
Havent seen anyone looking for a conjure derv, and only a smattering of lf mes. Only a small minority are looking for glad ranks as well. Unlike with HA, which has several maps with different objectives, a higher glad rank won't make much difference and I don't think people will go too crazy with it when forming groups. Manifold 03:14, 23 October 2009 (UTC)
Its just the first day. lol give it time. you will see.71.85.106.56 03:21, 23 October 2009 (UTC)
The point isn't that people are looking for anything, the point is that there's so much overpowered BS out there that some of it is bound to make it's way into the arena. This just means that instead of getting rolled by the same profession every day, you might get rolled by something else another day. Some days it might be successful, even. Don't get me wrong, I'm glad that they are trying to do this, and I support that they are, it's just that so many other things are broken that are hampering this idea. If there really are huge problems with it, we need more time to be in there and see them, in my case anyway. -- Tha Reckoning User Tha Reckoning Sig.png 03:24, 23 October 2009 (UTC)
Didnt the Live test crew test this before release? I mean they should have seen it coming. It is true how ever no matter what they did the way the GW community is, it would be exploited as quick as possible. I thought they were trying to bring a more balanced feild to bring more players to pvp with more interest. Right now after a few hours of this im still fine with Alliance Battles its got the best format, and there is no rank discrimination, little build discrimination, and its more fun. I think some more traditional formats like CTF or Assault or something more would have been much more fun. Something with a score and objectives. not the random kinda grab the flag or kill the priest on such a small quick scale. something with some more meat to it. 71.85.106.56 05:01, 23 October 2009 (UTC)
The test krewe hasn't started yet. Nice try though. ~Shard User Shard Sig Icon.png 05:03, 23 October 2009 (UTC)
it wasn't a "try", honest mistake. So in other words they are letting us test it.. lol maybe they should have waited till the live test crew started. After the full night now spending more time in there.. I promise within a week, if you have no codex rank you will find it very hard to party. the same old people are gonna make it an "elite" area again just like they did with TA. which is gonna roll everything right back to where it was. No codex title no party. Its already going on, in-fact now its people requiring glad titles and or codex titles lol. all the newer to pvp players are doomed once again. I wanted to like it so much, I had such hopes after all the devs talk. I was certain they had figured out a way to get some balance. All they were able to do was micro the whole problem on a daily basis... I gave up PVP years ago because of the elite attitudes, Ive been to HA, Ive done GvG, TA, but a lot of players are so snobbish and rude to people trying to learn, people just stay way. Its not skill or knowledge that makes them elite, its just how they treat others for the most part, that and their abilities to run a wiki build. There was a time when people in PVE judged you by your weapons and armor. they fixed that for the most part by making easier to get eilte armors, dropping the prices, and adding more and more sets. now it still hapopens but not anywhere near as much. This is gonna keep PVP just as elite as before. Nothing is gained. Its exactly what the devs said it wouldn't be, everything it was before. I just hope its subject to change, otherwise 2 months from now it will be no different that HB or TA..... sad but true. 71.85.106.56 07:39, 23 October 2009 (UTC)
Why not wait and see if this happens instead of declaring things doomed right now? Even if rank discrimination becomes popular there, it will be much easier for less experienced players to form a team. HA requires 8 people and knowledge of several maps. TA required 4 people and knowledge of many skills. CA requires 4 people and knowledge of a few skills. It's much friendlier for people new to the format, and I think it will encourage non-ranked teams to form together more than other pvp formats. Manifold 15:28, 23 October 2009 (UTC)
It's friendlier now because it's new, but in a few hours after the change, everyone was running the same builds and asking for the same builds again. MithUser MithranArkanere Star.pngTalk 18:07, 23 October 2009 (UTC)
@ Manifold, why should we tread the path of doom to witness it? When we have a little something called foresight and common sense telling us, "HEY! This arena sucks as bad as it's predecessor!", combined with Anet's diminishing content/update quality, we surely know what the future holds for GW1. It's not rocket science exactly, it's merely seeing a huge tital wave heading straight for our city shores with us watching from a close range, saying, "Aaaaah! We're going to be swarmed by waves of water!". Common sense: Not as common as you think? --Ulterion 20:12, 23 October 2009 (UTC)
Mmm, I didn't see any specific refutation of the points I made. Just a "A.net is bad, so this is too" with some colorful metaphors. Manifold 20:36, 23 October 2009 (UTC)
Manifold, I'm sorry you are just plain wrong. Title requirements to party doesn't encourage new players, it does just the opposite. Its not friendly in anyway to new players. Number one its about 10x more confusing than any other play format, when just entering the zone many people have had no Idea what was going on. As A 4 year player it took me prolly 5 mins to understand what the deal was, many others sat there begging people to tell them what to do, which in the usual elitist way people said "Try wiki" or "Shut up noob".. "ask your mom" ect ect. It nearly impossible for newer players to make a workable build out of random crap skills, its hard enough for casual players to come up with a decent bar with access to all skills. This whole thing is running in a very elitist way, and wont last 2 months before its a ghost town like TA or HB. It needs some MAJOR changes right out of the gate.. and those poor souls who have trouble putting together a decent build of their own will be forced to play the meta build of that day. Im not looking into the future im judging this on its current merits. The exact same problems the 2 abolished formats held are simply microed on this codex daily... nuff said. we will have to see what they decide to do, Just stand there in codex for 15 mins and you will see major displeasure with it. Only the few elite like it, and they will get bored of it quick. People are all over it right now because its something new... 71.85.106.56 23:38, 23 October 2009 (UTC)
"I'm too lazy to look something up myself"
Oh, sorry, I guess that makes me an elitist. Vili 点 User talk:Vili 02:19, 24 October 2009 (UTC)
LOL @ Vili I think you have missed the point. Its not asking for a build or looking a build up. Its requiring people to run x build or have x tittle to play in your party. Im guessing you skim and don't read. lol 71.85.106.56 04:06, 24 October 2009 (UTC)
I was referring to "many others sat there begging people to tell them what to do, which in the usual elitist way people said "Try wiki" " etc. since that was the easiest part to troll.
I find that having a few friends (or knowing charitable strangers) solves many of the grouping problems in this game. Vili 点 User talk:Vili 04:25, 24 October 2009 (UTC)
Agreed. The biggest problem for those who have trouble making parties is their lack of friends :P . In any event, an often lonely, practically rankless guy like me can always just go ahead and lead parties; I do it whenever my guildies aren't on. Hint: you can still exercise judgment on actual noobs ("You have Release Enchantments with no enchantments. Prepare to be aborted, sir") rather than rankless people. | 72 User Seventy two Truly Random.jpg {U|T|C} 14:08, 24 October 2009 (UTC)
There is no way for the devs to make people play differently. Unless they simply remove titles completely (which they aren't going to do), players will always find ways to be "elitist". Having this as a random arena would just be bad considering there is already a random arena, that people have devised a way to make not random (i.e. syncing). They would just do the same here. I wouldn't waste too much breath berating the devs for bad player behavior, but that's what pvp is all about from what I have observed in 4+ years. It's elitist and abusive, because it's competitive. -- Wyn User Wynthyst sig icon2.png talk 14:30, 24 October 2009 (UTC)
Random teams could be good because you don't see many syncers in RA anyway. Anet could have given us random buids of 7 skills and a res sig but those skills could have no synergy what so ever. (eg fire attunement with no fire magic skills) However you will always see the most playable ones being used. Or if you keep it the way it is and make it random teams you will still see the mini-meta builds but no rank descimination. The best thing about it is that some skills that never see the light of day will eventually be seen in Codex. (it is so fun to use binding chains as a monk, that warrior/derv/sin just goes afk). All in all people will still try to find the best, easiest, and quickest option, its human nature.--Bleded Scythe 04:06, 25 October 2009 (UTC)

And it's also Anet's nature to screw everything up. --Ulterion 23:53, 25 October 2009 (UTC)
