Bug?[edit]

I just noticed that when you have a minipet active and you transfer it to your xunlai it stays on the map, still following you. Worth a note?--38.124.140.96 23:56, 19 January 2011 (UTC)

I don't think it's a bug. I view them as summoning items. For instance, you can activate a pet directly from storage w/o transferring the pet item into your backpack. Still might be worthy of a note, though. 66.170.212.17 00:05, 20 January 2011 (UTC)
Not a bug, like above said, you can activate them from within the storage box. They disappear if you trade the mini to someone, but not when you transfer to/from the Xunlai box. User Rose Of Kali SIG.jpgRose Of Kali 09:47, 20 January 2011 (UTC)
what about this situation, you have two copies of a mini one in storage that you use to summon the mini out and one in inventory, if you trade the one in the inventory the mini walking around still dissapears. dont think this is that important to note on main page, but has anyone else noticed this.Spark-TBa 23:37, 7 April 2011 (UTC)

beta players[edit]

I was told by someone yesterday that they would be getting there 6th birthday mini very soon as they were part of beta, and that although he couldnt bring his character from beta his age continued with his first character, is there anyone out there that can confirm or deny this. Im only curious as to wether this person has been playing as long as he says or if hes a newbie trying to show off to his guildie i was helping at the time. ty for any quick reponses.Spark-TBa 22:35, 6 February 2011 (UTC)

I would personally doubt it since this is the first I ever heard of it and I don't think Anet would give a year's minis prior to the birthday celebration. But I didn't play the beta so I'm not sure--Elemental Phantom 22:45, 6 February 2011 (UTC)
I believe that no one gets a mini before April 27th, even those from beta. Can't say if the age of the character carries on. Think it does. -- Konig/talk 22:54, 6 February 2011 (UTC)
Closest I've heard to an early birthday gift was a member of the dev team getting their gift one day early. If there was someone that received a mini earlier than that, it would be all over the various forums, rather than just whispered rumors.--User Pyron Sy sig.png Pyron Sy 23:17, 6 February 2011 (UTC)
^^What Konig said. If you look for spoiler threads from the various .dat miners, you usually see icons of new items pop up shortly before the events they belong to, such as the holiday hats, new WiK weapons, and new miniature series, since that's when they get added to the live .dat file. So even if beta gamers hit the birthdays early (I don't know if they do or if they got reset), the minis don't actually exist in the game until just before the GW Bday celebration.
Another factor is that Gaile has been having her mini predictions page open up just a couple of months before the GW Bday, and it's also acted as a suggestion page (although labeled "predictions" to avoid any problems with semantics). So it seems like they finalize the minis pretty much last second. User Rose Of Kali SIG.jpgRose Of Kali 15:04, 7 February 2011 (UTC)
thank you for your replies, seems it was just someone trying to show off  :)Spark-TBa 17:38, 9 February 2011 (UTC)
just a quick post, the person in question just had a massive arguement with me while i was trying to be civil and just asked outright if he was lying, he said your gonna have to wait and see then put me on his ignore list :P, think this decides the fate of his early 6th year mini  :) he heSpark-TBa 17:56, 10 February 2011 (UTC)
Beta Players, no -- however Alpha testers + Staff (a few people from ZoS come to mind) have been known to get their mini's 1 or 2 days before the actually Birthday of the game Kei Miyaichi 15:22, 3 March 2011 (UTC)

6th year presents[edit]

Any ideas as to what this year's minis might be? I know that there have been a lot already, so it's hard to think of what they might use. Perhaps they might even make minis of NPCs from GW2? Like the Kodan, or the new Skritt. --Lustre Of Havoc 19:31, 6 April 2011 (UTC)

This is all I noticed on the sixth year here. I think I'd prefer a feedback page, like what's suggested on that link to be started for 6th year guesses. Kaisha User Kaisha Sig.png 21:21, 6 April 2011 (UTC)
Mini Ralena Stormbringer or Elementalist Aziure I'd like to see. Though I guess they've got all minis made and ready to put in the game at the end of the month. 193.215.199.34 11:46, 7 April 2011 (UTC)
I hope they finally add a mini that's a paragon, every profession represented except paragon maybe with Keiran as hero there's a chance for one. Ramei Arashi 14:44, 17 April 2011 (UTC)
Keyran's still a ranger. You can't change your primary and I'm fairly sure he carried a lot of "Expertise" around. This bloke Gwen married is clearly an impostor (also he fails quite hard as a paragon. Morgahn FTW!) - VileLasagna 22:06, 17 April 2011 (UTC)
There aren't very many notable paragons, unfortunately. (Commander) Varesh already has a mini, Mirza Veldrunner probably looks too similar to Zhed, there's also the three paragon heroes, Turep, Hidesplitter, and Lord Jaddoth. I'd love any of Cuicani or a Corsair, though. Manifold User Manifold Neptune.jpg 22:40, 17 April 2011 (UTC)
We haven't seen a mini Urgoz yet, or one of the Facets as a mini. Or what about the insects? --Lustre Of Havoc 07:35, 22 April 2011 (UTC)
Lindsey said they were going to come up with something new on the test forums sometime last year, that there would probably be no more new birthday minis (that doesn't exclude non-birthday minis, of course). I seem to remember her saying something about a gift bag that gives you something other than a mini, but it's been almost 12 months, so I don't remember the exact wording. –Jette 12:15, 22 April 2011 (UTC)
Urgoz is stationary. I don't think a movable miniature of him/it would be practical. I would love to see/have one because I find him/it to be the most detailed creature in GW (with all the individual roots and leaves and such), but I just don't see it happening. However, if they are indeed discontinuing birthday minis... I will certainly be displeased. I saved one character for five years and got a stupid manta. I felt so betrayed. Getting some little gift bag that gives you, what, sweets? That's almost insulting. Teddy Dan, yo. 12:43, 22 April 2011 (UTC) Teddy Dan, yo. 12:40, 22 April 2011 (UTC)
Keep in mind, that was Lindsey. Lindsey also said there were a lot of other things that were very unlikely to happen, that have (title changes, 7 hero teams, etc.). I'd imagine the opposite to be true as well. -- FreedomBoundUser Freedom Bound Sig.png 12:57, 22 April 2011 (UTC)
I bet the green one will be Thackeray, ugh. InfestedHydralisk 14:57, 22 April 2011 (UTC)
They won't replace the minis of the first 5 years, so they wouldn't do something stupid like give someone who's played for 6 years a small bag of treats. Either they will keep giving minis like they always have, or this bag will give something useful/rare. --Lustre Of Havoc 08:35, 23 April 2011 (UTC)

(Reset indent) Gaile usually puts one up, but there's only a couple of player-run pages at the moment, and it's kind of late to predict now. John Stumme has confirmed that there will be new minis, by the way. -- FreedomBoundUser Freedom Bound Sig.png 19:39, 27 April 2011 (UTC)

All that says is that they will be getting presents, he didn't actually say new minis. Flame48 02:47, 28 April 2011 (UTC)

Well, Anet has spoken and that's it for birthday minis I guess. Oh well, maybe WoC will bring some minis like WiK did. Or maybe just tonics all round again. 85.19.140.9 19:43, 28 April 2011 (UTC)
Very disappointing. Extremely. No point in carrying a character for six years if you're not going to get a mini - EL tonics are not a replacement. Not to mention the HoM aspect. -- FreedomBoundUser Freedom Bound Sig.png 19:50, 28 April 2011 (UTC)

Really?[edit]

Quote from the main page: "There are currently 112 different miniatures in the game (40 white, 28 purple, 37 gold, and 25 green), including the 3 unique Frogs." In my head, 40+28+37+25 equals 130 not 112. Should I get a new set of brains or....? Disconnect 10:03, 2 May 2011 (UTC)

that was probably put on the page when there 112 and someone failed to update the math. feel free to change it. -User Zesbeer sig.png Zesbeer 11:40, 2 May 2011 (UTC)
Changed it now. Funny to see there's more GOLD minis than purples. There's even more green miniatures than there are purples Disconnect 13:58, 2 May 2011 (UTC)

Drop Rates?[edit]

Is there any way one would be able to find/figure out the drop rates for the Green WiK minis?

Royal Gift/Drop rate for the gold mini allies. For the green foes, ...I haven't seen anyone publishing data that would lead us to estimate the rate. I would imagine it's something like that for the Miniature Polar Bear (less than 0.02%), Miniature Mallyx (less than 0.8%, although I suspect that's overstated), or Miniature Dhuum (less than 1 per 602 chests opened)...for which we can estimate the drop rate (but strictly speaking, we probably don't have enough data for any but the Polar Bear). — Tennessee Ernie Ford (TEF) 19:18, 14 May 2011 (UTC)

"Miniatures have been observed to have drops assigned to them"[edit]

Is this still the case? I've seen a lot of people with minis out during SCs claiming that the improve drops. If it is the case, would having 20 minis out be any use?--95.145.164.22 22:52, 27 October 2011 (UTC)

with only 1 mini per person you cant have 20 minis to effect drops, but i can personally say with 8 people in UW with a mini ea we have noticed better drops than a run without. i dont have numbers to prove this but with previous info being given i never thought to get. Spark-TBa 18:38, 29 October 2011 (UTC)
I claim observational bias. In high school, I did a similar experiment. The buses always seemed to be late, so I started jotting down when they came and comparing them to the schedule. It turned out that the busses were never more than a minute or two late; it only felt like it because I was already late and thus was looking out for any excuse. I expect this situation is no different; "feelings" and "observations" with no hard data tend to be wrong due to human influence. -- Armond WarbladeUser Armond sig image.png 20:01, 29 October 2011 (UTC)

I tested this theory out in normal mode in the Jaya Bluffs in Factions. I used a mini Fire Drake, a Roaring Ether, Fire Imp, Mad King, and Gwen. I made ten runs with each mini. The drop rate of green weapons and gold items stayed the same one or two per run on average, the feather drop rate stayed the same, an average of 23 feathers per run, and the common drops stayed the same. I have not tested it in the group theory yet. When I get the time I will do it over this time using two white letters, two purple letters, two gold letters, and two green letters mini’s to see if the rarity influences the drop rates. Apollyon Lethe 8-11-2012

I thought it meant that occasionally you'd see a drop labeled "Glob of Ectoplasm – assigned to Miniature Aatxe" or something similar. This is far less interesting. –Jette 21:25, 29 October 2011 (UTC)
That might be the case, but perhaps the player who owns the Miniature can still pick up the drop. Alternatively they wait until the item is no longer assigned. But then again I have no idea, this is just speculation. --Wingsy 01:28, 30 October 2011 (UTC)

(Reset indent) To reiterate: the note only says that players have seen a drop assigned to a mini; that (by itself) does not suggest whether drops are normally assigned to minis or not. The circumstances behind the note were extremely narrow and AFAIK haven't been replicated since October 2008 (so it's possible that ANet fixed/nerfed whatever mechanics allowed it to happen in the past). (I suspect that what happened is that the party wiped just as a foe was dying to some type of degen/delayed effect...and when the item dropped, there were no nearby players or heroes, but there was a mini...and the game didn't know better than to assign it to mini-gwen.)

To prove that displaying miniatures affects the overall drop rate, you'd have to have data from at least 50 runs each of 8 players with and without minis. To prove it for any specific item, you'd want enough runs to see at least 50 relevant drops (e.g. 50 ectos, both arrangements).

However, in the absence of confirmation, you might as well display a mini whenever you kill stuff — this is one case where the magic would still work even if you don't believe in it. – Tennessee Ernie Ford (TEF) 17:18, 31 October 2011 (UTC)

From what I understand, minis count as their own party. They can't be targeted, are invincible to everything (except boulders), and count as allies of their owners. GW's drop system is more than a little goofy; on the surface it seems straightforward but take a closer look and everything goes right to hell. I've seen monsters drop weapons, get resurrected, and then attack using fists, we all see items drop in PvP (both from NPCs and from chests), I've seen monsters holding a shield die, lose that shield visually, but drop something completely different, and missions like Unwaking Waters and Vizunah Square prove that more than one party can receive drops. Hell, it's possibly that players drop items for monsters, we just don't lose them from our inventory. The scientific part of my thinking says this is all anecdotal crap, but the reasonable part of my brain (even smaller than the parts that control my shitty motherfucking impulse control) says that items in GW are so goofy this is more than feasible.
For clarification, none of this comes from privileged information talking to ANet employees, this is all from my own speculation empirical research. –Jette 21:25, 31 October 2011 (UTC)

Ghostly hero misspelling[edit]

I found out that no where in this forum the fact can be found that the name of the Ghostly Hero minipet is actually misspelled into Minature Ghostly Hero. Could this be in relation to the fact that this minipet is the only (or one of the few) that can still die from fire and other area effects? It might be a funny thing to investigate if it is caused by the misspelling of the word miniature. – EmpressOfMisery 21:40, 17 March 2012 (UTC)

I don't see how the spelling can be the issue. The Black Moa Chick doesn't even use the word miniature. (FYI the talk page notes for one of the minis includes a comment about the misspelling; apparently, this affected more than one of the strongbox minis. Perhaps it's been fixed since and only some people have the misspelled version.) – Tennessee Ernie Ford (TEF) 21:11, 19 March 2012 (UTC)

7th Year Mini's[edit]

I just opened my 7th year birthday pressy to find a Gold Miniature Lich... ( One of the two golds from the second years set...) Has anyone else gotten an 'old' mini? Is there no 7th year set? :(

If people are opening them already, then I guess the NDA is lifted. All of this year's minis are recycled, but they're all rare and/or green minis from prior sets. There are also minis from exclusive raffles and other special contests, like miniature Oni and Naga Raincallers. So, you can be disappointed there's nothing new or ecstatic the ultra-rares aren't so ultra-rare. Take your pick. –Jette 19:08, 26 April 2012 (UTC)

Miniature Store[edit]

Where do I ask Anet if they would consider putting in a miniature pet store? My idea is if you have a dedicated mini you can turn it in to unlock the same mini in the store or spend 10 skill points to unlock it. Once the mini is unlocked then for a price in gold and skill points you can buy that miniature new undedicated. Skill points just are not used enough in the game right now. I think this would add to the game strategy also. You either use skill points to unlock skills or miniatures. Take it a step more and offer the store only in Guildhalls. That would encourage people to join guilds to or buy a guildhall of their own. Apollyon Lethe 8/11/2012 Special:Contributions/50.80.112.96

I like your idea of a miniature store, however i dont think Anet will implement it. The ability to purchase unded minis that you already have and have dedicated is a little ridiculous imo, it would allow any player with a ton of skill points and rare minipets to dedicate them, then purchase an obscene amount to sell in trade and try to profit off of this. MattTheDemon (talk) 22:50, 18 December 2013 (UTC)
sounded like a great idea right up until you said "buy that new miniature undedicated" - that would flood the market + annoy many people ;) -86.158.6.2 23:23, 18 December 2013 (UTC)

War in Kryta Miniatures[edit]

How do the War In Kryta miniatures (namely Miniature Peacekeeper Enforcer, Miniature Confessor Dorian, and Miniature Confessor Isaiah) "drop"? Do they fall on the ground and must be picked up like normal loot or are they automatically put into inventory like a birthday present? I've killed a lot of Mantle and Peacekeepers and found only three green weapons and no minis. (Yes, I know the drop rate is low.) Lord Flynt 00:52, 10 February 2013 (UTC)

It drops like a regular item. In the week or so that I grinded the DWG courier path, I only saw 3 weapons drop - several thousand foes killed. The drop rate for minis is much lower than that of the weapons. If you can find a seller, its probably quicker to grind out something else + buy it off them instead. -Chieftain Alex 00:57, 10 February 2013 (UTC)
