Hey[edit]

Just saw the revert comment, do you wish I add how the codes are claimed? Or the source of the codes? Frozenwind 22:06, 12 October 2009 (UTC)

Isn't it quite obvious where a community event has got the codes. Only official ways to get these codes is with a collector's edition, first run steel book edition and with regular Aion from NCsoft internet store. That's how the event runners got their codes. - J.P.User J.P. sigicon.pngTalk 22:20, 12 October 2009 (UTC)
You are right in the fact that that those are the official ways to gain them. But as the event creator one did not get the codes directly from the boxes as such, but working with a games store to acquire spare codes. Anyway I’m not going to cause trouble; if it was wrong to place it there I apologize for the inconvenience. :) Frozenwind 22:32, 12 October 2009 (UTC)
Don't sweat it ^^
One way or another, i wouldn't see it as an official way to get a code. That's why i would not add it. But that's only me.
You should bring this up on emote's talk page if you haven't already. - J.P.User J.P. sigicon.pngTalk 22:39, 12 October 2009 (UTC)
I dont think that would resolve the issue. Maybe I could swing it as a promotion in an "Arena-Net" recognized player event, in the notes section? Or shall I just drop it :) Frozenwind 22:54, 12 October 2009 (UTC)
Sure, if the event is yet to come. - J.P.User J.P. sigicon.pngTalk 22:58, 12 October 2009 (UTC)

Good sir[edit]

Is this actually a screenshot? I realize the original work is, but the fact that you've modified it, wouldn't that just make it property of ANet? Moo Kitty 04:43, 16 October 2009 (UTC)

Dear Moo, it's taken out of screenshot, so it's still a screenshot. - J.P.User J.P. sigicon.pngTalk 04:47, 16 October 2009 (UTC)
I realize that, but considering you wouldn't be able to reproduce that by taking a screenshot... Whatever. Just trying to un-confuzzle my mind about all this policy whoring. Moo Kitty 04:49, 16 October 2009 (UTC)
If it's originally a screenshot, it's a screenshot. If it's from an official source other than the game (arena net renders, dat extracts, etc) it's an arena net image. -- Wyn User Wynthyst sig icon2.png talk 06:53, 16 October 2009 (UTC)

Take a chill pill[edit]

We give users at least 30 days before we tag images as orphaned. Why are you deciding there is "no need" for another user's image, or tagging one because "It doesn't work for you". You need to rethink your tagging reasons, and your over enthusiasm. -- Wyn User Wynthyst sig icon2.png talk 10:03, 23 October 2009 (UTC)

Those were already tagged, check the history :P I just speed up the process :D - J.P.User J.P. Halloween sig.pngTalk 10:07, 23 October 2009 (UTC)
Meh, you don't really need to speed em up, unless really necessary. Appreciate ya doing that though to my images, but wasn't necessary. -- User Ariyen sig icon.gifriyen 10:21, 23 October 2009 (UTC)

The changes I am making are for ease of making edits, not to make them more difficult. What is easier, having to look through 20 different pages and making a change on all of them, or looking at one page, making a change to that, and that change being automatically updated across all pages that use that same exact information? Just because you have one view of something doesn't mean it is the only view, and not even that it is necessarily the correct one, it just means it is your view. 69.182.188.52 20:38, 25 October 2009 (UTC)

Yes, it's my opinion. But didn't mean it offensive, as you seem to see it, in my opinion. And since you told me the usefulness of these, i have nothing against you anymore. - J.P.User J.P. Halloween sig.pngTalk 20:47, 25 October 2009 (UTC)
I took offense at someone (it seemed at the time) belittling the effort I had put into updating those pages. It ended up costing me about 1/2 hour or so editing after I had the tables and such set up so that they had all of the information previously there. They could still use some tweaking I am sure, but most of the heavy lifting is done by doing this this way.

RE: LolTroll ANet[edit]

And after rendering, they are still screenshots, since the original picture is from in-game. - J.P.User J.P. Halloween sig.pngTalk 15:48, 1 November 2009 (UTC)
I thought renders were just someone pulling the actual model files out of the .dat thing, or whatever?-- User Vanguard VanguardLogo.pnganguard 15:50, 1 November 2009 (UTC)
Yeah, the official renders. - J.P.User J.P. Halloween sig.pngTalk 15:52, 1 November 2009 (UTC)
(Edit conflict) No it's not. It's like saying that wine is grapes. Renders only have ArenaNet property, they're not fully screenshots. Titani Uth Ertan 15:53, 1 November 2009 (UTC)
So I wasn't completely wrong?-- User Vanguard VanguardLogo.pnganguard 15:57, 1 November 2009 (UTC)
In this wiki we tag renders taken from .dat or uploaded by ArenaNet as renders. Renders taken out from screenshots are tagged as screenshots. - J.P.User J.P. Halloween sig.pngTalk 16:00, 1 November 2009 (UTC)

Dreadspawn Maw[edit]

It's not similar to the Sarlacc Pit at all, except for being a hole in the ground with teeth. Like I said on the discussion page before I edited, that happens to be the only similarity. Shape, size, and other features completely separate the Sarlacc Pit from the Dreadspawn Maw. 24.165.119.7 02:06, 5 November 2009 (UTC)

The original Sarlacc Pit was nothing but a pit with teeth.... - J.P.User J.P. sigicon.pngTalk 02:11, 5 November 2009 (UTC)
And had a bunch of other features that make it completely dissimilar to the Dreadspawn Maw.
1. Sarlacc Pit has a tongue and a beak. Dreadspawn Maw does not.
2. Sarlacc Pit is round. Dreadspawn Maw is not round.
3. Sarlacc Pit eats things. Dreadspawn Maw gives birth to things.
4. Sarlacc Pit is not shaped like a vagina. Dreadspawn Maw is. 24.165.119.7 02:17, 5 November 2009 (UTC)

Afflicted[edit]

Is that happening anytime soon, cause it's just distracting to wiki readers to see some red link like that on half of their pages... I would suggest at least putting it on all their pages for consistency and possibly for the betterment of viewers add it in a noinclude tag so it's there for if people upload said map. Of course you can. But a problem is a problem until fixed, and saying something like "Over population isn't a problem; just nuke places" isn't fixing anything; it's just working around the problem or completely ignoring it. Titani Uth Ertan 12:13, 21 November 2009 (UTC)

Moving guilds to historical[edit]

We have a bot that does this. please check poke's talk history of his bot (which is the one that does the moving). The reason people don't move guilds is because so much gets 'lost'. Hope you check that out. Thanks! -- User Ariyen sig icon.gifriyen 07:12, 6 December 2009 (UTC)

oh lol, makes more sense now. Titani Uth Ertan 13:12, 6 December 2009 (UTC)
It's ok to archive a guild if the guild has indicated it's disbanded, etc. however, if you are simply archiving guilds off the inactive list, there are things that you need to do before you archive them. You also need to make sure you manually add the capeimage to the infobox, and remove any "recruiting" categories. Once the inactive guild list gets to a point where an archival is needed, (close to the 500 mark) I go through each page and do all the necessary checks and then create a list for Wikichu to work off of. It's generally easier to allow Wikichu to do these as the bot makes all the necessary changes to the page, as well as deletes the left over redirect. -- Wyn User Wynthyst sig icon2.png talk 13:44, 6 December 2009 (UTC)
This was a guild that's disbanded. - J.P.User J.P. Christmas sig.pngTalk 15:35, 6 December 2009 (UTC)
The bot rarely gets run, so I don't see what the problem is with just this one guild.
EDIT: Think about it, if there was a vandal, and you had a bot to remove vandals and revert vandalised pages and stuff, what would you do? Wait for enough vandals to strike to use the bot, or would you do it yourself? -- My Talk Lacky 07:43, 7 December 2009 (UTC)

Many years ago today

Something grew inside of your mother

That thing was YOU!

You! You! You! You! You!

Did she scream? Did she cry?

Only those that are born

Are ones that get to die!

One more year closer to dying

Rotting organs ripping grinding

Biological discordance

Birthday equals self-abhorrence

Years keep passing, aging always

Mutate into vapid slugs

Doctor gives a new prescription

Bullet in a fucking gun

One more year closer to dying

Plastic surgeons fuel the lying

You forget why you came in here

Your mind rots with every New Year

R.S.V.P., please

For the deth of thee

You have little time

And you're running out of life

Happy Birthday

You're gonna die!

Now you're old and full of hatred

Take a pill To masturbated

Children point to you and scream

Because they will become that thing

One more year of further suffering

There's no point of fucking bluffing

Open up your Dethday present

It's a box of fucking nothing

R.S.V.P., please

For the deth of thee

You have little time

And you're running out of life

Dye Chart[edit]

Where does it say that it has to be in a specific order? I do not see that. It's a guideline, not a policy and I think all of those images need to be undone, unless you can prove otherwise. Kaisha User Kaisha Sig.png 10:40, 8 February 2010 (UTC)

Here it is, the first part. It's been done like this since the project started. And i see no reason to change that. - J.P.User J.P. sigicon.pngTalk 10:43, 8 February 2010 (UTC)
Shard is the one who uploaded some of those photos (as he's listed as one of the helpers on that project) and it states this "Dye charts include black, blue, brown, default, gray, green, orange, purple, silver, red, white and yellow" first in that same paragraph, which the photos are done after. I think the one that you're referring to is for the weapons. Kaisha User Kaisha Sig.png 10:45, 8 February 2010 (UTC)
It is a bit unclear (imo all color lists should use the same order, to avoid just this kind of confusion), but the list that explicitly gives the exact order to be used states: "The dye color arrangement follows a set pattern of default > yellow > orange > red > green > blue > purple > brown > silver > white > black > gray. For Festival Hats and Common Armor you do not need to include the default color as that is gray." --Lensor (talk) 10:54, 8 February 2010 (UTC)
The first set of colors only tells what colors should be used in dye charts. You notice how these are in aphabetical order.
And you may notice how the colors in Shard's images are not in that order.
And the guidelines are meant for all dye charts in this project, not just for weapons. - J.P.User J.P. sigicon.pngTalk 10:56, 8 February 2010 (UTC)
Alright, noticed. I do agree with Lensor, it is confusing. Kaisha User Kaisha Sig.png 10:57, 8 February 2010 (UTC)
The weapon charts were done with default > yellow > orange > red > green > blue > purple > brown > silver > white > black > gray - order, so we should stick with it to avoid confusion, in my opinion. - J.P.User J.P. sigicon.pngTalk 11:00, 8 February 2010 (UTC)
Also, in my opinion, each little image should be named as to what color that dye is. I have noticed some images have this and some don't. I prefer the ones that do. Kaisha User Kaisha Sig.png 11:03, 8 February 2010 (UTC)
"The dye color is labeled using white san-serif text against the dye chart."
That's just a bit below the section we were talking about.Shard should read these guidelines :P - J.P.User J.P. sigicon.pngTalk 11:07, 8 February 2010 (UTC)
Yep. Those that do the images, should read the guidelines. Kaisha User Kaisha Sig.png 11:09, 8 February 2010 (UTC)

(Reset indent) Just thought I'd step in as J.P. is just helping with the dye charts project (that I started and wrote the guidelines for). One of the main things I noticed before I started the project was that there were dozens of different ways people did their dye chart. At the end of the day, when I started writing up the project, I thought if we are going to go through the process of making, editing, uploading, adding information, etc. then we could at least be consistent. At the end of the day it's a project guideline, and they cannot be enforced. I could go back an redo all the images that need redone, but lately I've lost interest in the game and while it would be good to have consistency, any dye chart is better than none sometimes. ~Celestia 11:45, 8 February 2010 (UTC)

Formatting Changes You Have Been Doing[edit]

Looking at the recent changes, I have noticed you have made several changes to articles that do not actually change how the article looks on any web browser, like adding spaces that are not needed. Two examples are [1] and [2]. I hate to say that you've been wasting your time with those changes, but there's no other way of saying it. :/ C2Talon 10:03, 17 February 2010 (UTC)

^Formatting etiquette standards. -- My Talk Lacky 11:16, 17 February 2010 (UTC)
It is fixing something that is not broke. If you can tell me the differences between the old and the new just by looking at the rendered pages in your web browser, I will eat my hat. Also, it is not formatting standards at all; having those spaces is just a coding style, since it does not change anything fundamentally (though I would argue that those spaces shouldn't be there to optimize the generated HTML, but again: coding style). Unless of course I missed the part about "spacing your wiki code" on the formatting pages; if so, a direct link would be appreciated. C2Talon 13:21, 17 February 2010 (UTC)

I.e. there were no "GW-related" updates for the last three months, so the tag was actually correct. --Lensor (talk) 09:59, 18 February 2010 (UTC)

"By Ural's Hammer!"[edit]

Is the proper capitalization in game. Also, if a page needs to be moved, it needs to be MOVED, to maintain the proper history. This page however does not need to be moved, as it is correct the way it is. -- Wyn User Wynthyst sig icon2.png talk 15:17, 21 February 2010 (UTC)

If a move for some reason doesn't work, use the {{move}} tag on the page you want to move, or put a delete tag on the target page - in other words, try and get a sysop to sort it out. That would be preferable to having attribution issues which come with manually moving content :P. -- pling User Pling sig.png 15:47, 21 February 2010 (UTC)

Targeting[edit]

To test targeting, use something like Zealot's Fire or look for Divine Favour heals. Just because you don't require a target doesn't mean it is self targetting. For example, Weapon of Aggression has "you" as a target instead of self. As such it will not remove a condition when used with Wielder's Remedy. That kind of information is very fiddly but useful. Stances used to be self targetting and trigger Zealot's Fire, but this was changed due to people spamming stances for high short duration DPS. Misery 21:36, 28 February 2010 (UTC)

Blasphemy! The new video interface is butt ugly and i don't like it. The only change i like is the thumbs up, thumbs down rating. At first when i heard this change is coming, i hated the idea. But it's actually better than the five stars rating system. People usually rated either five stars or one star. I've seen or heard someone saying: What if the video is not good, but not bad either? Do we really need a progression bar if it's a straight +1 per rank or +2 per rank? --JonTheMon 13:49, 26 March 2010 (UTC)

Why not? We have those already. There are similar factors on other skills and we still use the progress bar on those pages. - J.P.User J.P. sigicon.pngTalk 13:52, 26 March 2010 (UTC)
I noticed that, but it could be interpreted as 1/2, which begs the "rounds up or rounds down?" question. Also, division is usually more difficult than multiplication (simple doubling). I just think +1 and +2 progression bars are doing maths for the user too much. --JonTheMon 13:55, 26 March 2010 (UTC)
I don't mind. And after all it's a changing factor on skill's function. And the bar doesn't take that much space on a page either. - J.P.User J.P. sigicon.pngTalk 14:02, 26 March 2010 (UTC)

anomalies rev[edit]

hi, why did you rev my removal of anomalies without comment? I have explained my opinion on why they are not anomalies and nobody objected. User RolandOfGilead sig.png Roland of Gilead talk 10:50, 30 March 2010 (UTC)

I left my comment on the talk page. We can't be sure are these signets meant to have an aftercast, or is it a bug. This most likely needs consulting from ArenaNet. - J.P.User J.P. sigicon.pngTalk 10:53, 30 March 2010 (UTC)
As long as ANet doesnt weigh in on or fix the issue, shouldn't we go by the most probable explanation? And since the supposedly anomalous behaviour of Dolyak sig and sig of mystic speed (has aftercast delay, has to be queued) is consistent with all other signets in the game, wouldnt that be the explanation that they are working as designed? User RolandOfGilead sig.png Roland of Gilead talk 11:03, 30 March 2010 (UTC)

There are many issues ArenaNet doesn't fix. But it doesn't mean you can't try. Until we have an answer, all we can do is assume. And i don't like that solution too much. - J.P.User J.P. sigicon.pngTalk 11:12, 30 March 2010 (UTC)
Until we have an answer, all we can do is assume. Technically, but that may be just crazy talk, we can reason and exchange arguments. And i don't like that solution too much. I guess that settles it then. User RolandOfGilead sig.png Roland of Gilead talk 12:02, 30 March 2010 (UTC)
Sorry Roland but I am with J.P on this one. These two signets don't behave like other signets do. So it would be good to know if it's intented or not before removing anomaly tag. Anyway it doesn't hurt to have that piece of information on the page. 194.2.20.67 12:51, 30 March 2010 (UTC)

Lieutenant Thackeray and his Paper Wrapped Parcels[edit]

You removed the note on the parcel page, but i think the note about the requirements that need to be set in order for him to appear in Ice Cliff Chasms belongs to both pages. Anyone that just looks at the Paper Wrapped Parcel page will wonder why he doesn't appear. That information is also part of the acquisition, so i don't know why players should need to figure that out by skimming through Thackeray's article at first. Information like that is often found twice in accordant articles. —ZerphatalkThe Improver 10:00, 3 April 2010 (UTC)

Drunkard[edit]

  1. I know how bugs that need fixing are documented.
  2. This is actually a useful feature.
  3. It is preferable that it NOT be changed.
  4. Therefore a 'bug' report on it is NOT appropriate.
  5. Please put it back to the way I had it (as a Note).
  6. If you do insist that the comment about it might be a bug really bugs you, either:
    1. Remove the comment, or
    2. Change it to something like 'This is a feature, not a bug.

--Max 2 13:04, 4 April 2010 (UTC)

It's community what decides is it a bug or not.
And why you bring the discussion here? It should be on it's respective page :P
On top of that, this feature isn't fully reliable, since it's know that the actual intoxication level and screen effect won't always change at the same time. Check the Notes section to see it for yourself. - J.P.User J.P. sigicon.pngTalk 13:13, 4 April 2010 (UTC)
- So now you are the community. You get to ignore the fact that it is a desirable feature and would best be left alone. I call 'bull shit'.
- The comment is here and on the discussion page, because you are the one who could fix the problem you just created most easily. Because you are the best one to fix it, I put the comment here first.
- The change in the post-processing effect is delayed due to communication delays, and probably other factors, but is still a useful indicator. It may not be quite as rapid or completely reliable as the title bar points update, but it is reasonably useful and timely.
--Max 2 13:40, 4 April 2010 (UTC)
No, i'm not the community. We both reverted once, resulting the page as it is now. And i'm not gonna do anything until we have a consensus on this. You've asked someone else to review this. I want it too. So all we do now is wait and discuss (here) this further when someone else gives his opinion. - J.P.User J.P. sigicon.pngTalk 13:49, 4 April 2010 (UTC)
If you want this bug to remain in the game, the correct place to tell ANet that is on ANet's talk pages. Or possibly in your feedback namespace. The mainspace page about a title track is not where that kind of plea goes, no matter what the issue is or how much you want it to stay.
It seems like a bug, so I'll just leave the bug note as is. -Auron 14:11, 4 April 2010 (UTC)
- Discussion belongs on the Talk:Drunkard page where people can see it, not here.
- Yes, I think the anomaly should remain. That means there should not be a bug tag on it. On the other hand a Note on how to use the anomaly is appropriate. How would you phrase the request to ArenaNet and exactly where should it go, particularly since it is a request that they do not do something?
--Max 2 14:33, 4 April 2010 (UTC)
"Discussion belongs on the Talk:Drunkard page where people can see it, not here."
You created the section. Also, just do nothing and tag it as a bug? I don't think ANet is actually going to care at all. ---Chaos?- (moo!) -- 15:25, 4 April 2010 (UTC)
(Edit conflict) I would phrase it like this: "Dear <arenanet employee>, please do not fix [[link to bug|this]] bug. It is very useful and makes it easier to finish an otherwise quite irritating title track. Thanks. <insert signature>".
As for the discussion here, you started it.
And a bug is a bug, it doesn't matter whether you feel it should remain or not. It's still a bug.
Also, what Chaos said. - Mini Me talk 15:29, 4 April 2010
Stop the pile on guys. Read the whole thread. There is a reason this (a side issue) got put here but further discussion of the main issue belongs on Talk:Drunkard. --Max 2 21:45, 4 April 2010 (UTC)

Perhaps this should be moved to Talk:Drunkard though? - Mini Me talk 21:54, 4 April 2010

The Difference[edit]

Between an "abbreviation" and "short name": what is it? User Raine R.gif is for Raine, etc. 03:09, 5 April 2010 (UTC)

Abbreviation stands for something. --Master BriarUser Briar Sig 2.jpg 03:10, 5 April 2010 (UTC)
Your very obvious statement enlightened me. User Raine R.gif is for Raine, etc. 03:12, 5 April 2010 (UTC)
there isn't one. most people on the wiki have "abbreviation" confused with "acronym." saying "apply" instead of "apply poison" is abbreviating it, but I think they still use short name instead. -Auron 03:17, 5 April 2010 (UTC)
My enlightenment just died. Now I'm confused. If they're both the same, why do we have both? User Raine R.gif is for Raine, etc. 03:19, 5 April 2010 (UTC)
I like to thing a redirect missing word or The from the article name it redirects to is a short name.
But when a redirect only has the first letter of each word of the article name it redirects to, UW for example, that's an abbreviation to me.
Maybe not the best example, but you get the idea. - J.P.User J.P. sigicon.pngTalk 03:28, 5 April 2010 (UTC)
think* –User Balistic B d-dark.pngalistic 03:32, 5 April 2010 (UTC)
An abbreviation is like UW, SS, SoA, and ZB for example. Now, a short name is like Llye, Dchop, etc. These are not to be confused with common name, which, for example, is like Jesus Beam. →[ »Halogod User Halogod35 Sig.png (talk ]← 14:30, 5 April 2010 (UTC)
That's my point. Those aren't abbreviations, those are acronyms. -Auron 00:29, 6 April 2010 (UTC)
Auron is correct here, SoA and Apply are both abbreviations. SoA is also an acronym. Misery 14:16, 6 April 2010 (UTC)

Hello - RE: Gorani[edit]

Not a problem at all, some of the pictures, how to say this, no one is looking at them, some are duplicated. Like this one of Benato (link: http://wiki.guildwars.com/wiki/File:Benato.jpg) it is the same as this one, that I uploaded yesterday, (link: http://wiki.guildwars.com/images/2/2a/Machir_%28material_trader%29.jpg) but because they are under different category, hence duplicated.

Regarding Gorani, if I hadn't change the file, no one would have notice those picture are duplicate, the previous picture which i edited from, wasn't even etched out properly and has very bad light/dark quality.

So if you see that those files are duplicate, go ahead and replace them. Long story short - do what you think is correct, its all for the good of the wiki. I don't mind at all. Pumpkin pie User Pumpkin pie sig.jpg 18:02, 5 April 2010 (UTC)

PS, if you know how to revert file back to the previous one (cos i don't know how to do that yet), check out these two files, please if you will, Krytan Female (link: http://wiki.guildwars.com/wiki/File:Krytan_f.jpg) Clearly the one provided by Emily is clearly of better quality. why the new file? Pumpkin pie User Pumpkin pie sig.jpg 18:13, 5 April 2010 (UTC)
Less white area in the image. Looks better on pages. - J.P.User J.P. sigicon.pngTalk 18:14, 5 April 2010 (UTC)

Charr[edit]

Why are you replacing renders holding the correct weapons with renders holding incorrect weapons? Misery 14:14, 6 April 2010 (UTC)

All charr using the warrior skin are supposed to use the same file. Right now the image shows a charr with weapons. The idea is to upload one without any weapons. Like File:Charr shaman.jpg. I think this warrior image is replaced with a weaponless model soon in future. People like Celestia are working really hard on this project. But if you think the images shouldn't be changed before the new image, i'll halt the changes on that model. - J.P.User J.P. sigicon.pngTalk 14:20, 6 April 2010 (UTC)
Putting up incorrect images seems like an obviously bad thing to me. If we have weaponless renders that is one thing, but putting up renders with the wrong weapon is a terrible idea. This has come up before for NPCs like Magni the Bison. Misery 14:22, 6 April 2010 (UTC)
Damn that Magni..Bane of my existance...Because "people like Celestia are working really hard on this project", I guess I better get back to it >< ~Celestia 14:24, 6 April 2010 (UTC)
