This is the final mission in pre-Searing Ascalon, in which you defeat the Charr agent Vatlaaw Doomtooth.

There is no direct reward. Completing this mission will trigger the Searing and take you to post-Searing Ascalon.

Sir Tydus:I meant to find you before the skirmish, but I can see you did not suffer for my absence. You fought well.
Prince Rurik:I must agree with Sir Tydus. When I watched you fight, I knew I was witnessing the future pride of Ascalon.
Sir Tydus:"I have been keeping the Prince informed of your deeds. After seeing your courage for himself, I belive he is convinced."
Prince Rurik:"I am. I have come to induct you into Ascalon's Vanguard. We are the elite protectors who guard our nation when threatened from within or without."
Prince Rurik:"As part of the Vanguard, you are needed for a critical mission before we can begin our offensive against the Charr."
Sir Tydus:"Our sentries spotted Vatlaaw Doomtooth and his warband in the old bunker out behind the Citadel. He must have found a passage that led here from the Catacombs. Whatever his purpose, it can be no good."
Sir Tydus:"As soon as you are ready, the prince himself will accompany you to cast this Charr fiend out of our land."

Sir Tydus:"I'm sorry I could not join you before the skirmish. I was delayed by official business"
Prince Rurik:"He was delayed by me. I wanted us to watch the battle together."
Prince Rurik:"Sir Tydus did not exaggerate when he spoke of you. You've shown great promise today."
Sir Tydus:"I have been keeping the Prince informed of your deeds. After seeing your courage for himself, I belive he is convinced."

[edit] Notes

  • While waiting for the mission to start, your character will shadow step away from each portal when attempting to pass it.
  • This area is labelled as an explorable area but is a mission.
  • The Ascalonian Guards will body block you during the briefing.
  • If you enter this area with less than four players you will be automatically assigned henchmen, including ones you may already have, making it possible to have two copies of the same henchman.
  • You can't cap Barrage from Vatlaaw Doomtooth because the Signet of Capture is unavailable in pre-Searing Ascalon and the cinematic is triggered when defeating him.
  • After this mission has started, your character will no longer be able to return to Ascalon. Failing the mission, or relogging while in the mission, simply causes it to restart.
Bug Bug.
If Prince Rurik dies, the mission doesn't fail; instead a resurrection notice with a countdown of 3 seconds pops up, with no end effect.
