The Beginning

Hi. Talk. Ask. Enjoy your stay in my page. VanguardImage:User-VanguardAvatar.PNG

WoW

I happened to notice a comment you left on Edru's talk page. If you can't afford to actually pay for WoW on a month-by-month basis, there are free, private servers, which make WoW 100% free (since the client can be freely downloaded). See here. 72.83.211.64 05:41, 14 October 2007 (UTC)

I'm a little wary about those type of things, I'll pass. VanguardVanguard 14:58, 14 October 2007 (UTC)

Edits to User:Drago

Is there a reason that you removed an element of a user page that was added by that user? With what justification? Go to Aiiane's Talk page (Aiiane - talk - contribs) 01:30, 17 October 2007 (UTC)

I looked at the history, it was just an IP adress, I doubt someone would add that about themselves.
If it WAS by him, feel free to tack it back on. I won't touch it. VanguardVanguard 01:31, 17 October 2007 (UTC)
It was. Click on Aiiane's second link, he put it on himself. -Auron 01:34, 17 October 2007 (UTC)
My mistake, I did look first. It just showed an IP. I have NO idea why their link shows his own name. VanguardVanguard 01:34, 17 October 2007 (UTC)
If you look at the page history, you'll notice that the only IP edit to the page was re-adding it back in after you took it out. Go to Aiiane's Talk page (Aiiane - talk - contribs) 02:48, 17 October 2007 (UTC)
I'm confused. Probably because I'm an idiot, but it's all fixed, kk. Vanguard

Dervish Primeval

I've found a few good dye combinations for said armor set. any color + silver looks good, such as Green + Silver such as this. I have since changed that to purple + black + black to match my non-dyeable tormented scythe. I don't mean to flaunt any sort of wealth- I'm just saying they look good. -elviondale (tahlk) 18:10, 22 October 2007 (UTC)

It's not Primevial, It was Ancient armor that is nothing but brown. And it's ugly with any dye. I was quite dissapointed when I blew 50k+however much 5 black dye cost only for it to look like crap. VanguardVanguard 21:28, 22 October 2007 (UTC)
Oh ok, sorry- I don't know why I thought of Primeval -elviondale (tahlk) 00:25, 23 October 2007 (UTC)

The pictures

If it's cropping that needs doing, upload them to the wiki and leave me a message and I'll do it for you. If it's just shrinking the picture, you can use the code [[Image:User_Vanguard_Nisai_Oril.jpg|150px]] for a picture of Nisai that is 150 pixels wide. ——Ebany Salmonderiel 20:32, 24 October 2007 (UTC)

Heyhey, that's a useful codething. That would resize them all the same size so I could just line them up in a row... I'll try it now, and I'll get back to you if I am unsuccessful. Thanks! VanguardVanguard 20:34, 24 October 2007 (UTC)
Np at all ^^. I'm actually surprised you've already replied. —Ebany Salmonderiel 20:35, 24 October 2007 (UTC)
It was funny, I was on the RC list and my name was right on top, Was all "z0mg, message." And.. yeah. Good timing. VanguardVanguard 20:36, 24 October 2007 (UTC)

Just pointing out my reply to your message on my talk page, as some people just don't notice replies to their messages. —Ebany Salmonderiel 10:54, 25 October 2007 (UTC)

I've downloaded the pictures of your characters so I can try playing around with ways to present them, I hope you don't mind ^^. One good way you could use for the names is: (the pictures I've put in here are the ones with the correct naming)

That will come out as:

(I've also reuploaded the images under the correct names for you). —Ebany Salmonderiel 20:54, 26 October 2007 (UTC)

The problem there, though, is that because you have 5 pictures, there is one on its own on the bottom row.—Ebany Salmonderiel 20:57, 26 October 2007 (UTC)

That's very neat and I appreciate the time you put into this, I'll have about two characters to join Nikki on the bottom row anyway, and eventually I might put them there myself. My only problem is that those are insanely small, and due to the dark background, hard to see. VanguardVanguard 01:04, 27 October 2007 (UTC)
Don't worry about it, Vanguard, it took almost no time at all for me to do. Typing at 66wpm and Ctrl+V works wonders on time. I agree with you on how small they are; I'll just experiment with other ways to organise the pictures.--The preceding unsigned comment was added by User:Ebany Salmonderiel .
Righto. The one you gave is the one I'm using ^_^ (fucking edit conflict, third time I've tried to say this) I know we agree on a lot of things Havoc, but any MM build can be done well in both PvE and PvP. Yours isn't much different than most. VanguardVanguard 22:10, 27 October 2007 (UTC)

Hell of a page glitch, yea wrong page. Wrong wiki altogether. And I'm content with what I have now, actually. VanguardVanguard 16:42, 28 October 2007 (UTC)

Bloody things seem fine to me, I had my username in the titles and everything. It would be nice to tell me what exactly was wrong with them rather than throwing a link (that I've seen and red 3 times) at me. VanguardImage:User-VanguardAvatar.PNG
Sorry, i should have been a little more descriptive, for example the image Vanguard Nisai.JPG should have the name User Vanguard Nisai.JPG, hope this helps Fall 01:24, 25 October 2007 (UTC)
Yeah, that's what I'm fixing at the moment. Remember to go back and remove those "DELETE THESE" signs >_< VanguardImage:User-VanguardAvatar.PNG

RE: Campaign opinions

I agree with you on pretty much all of it, except some of Prophecies. If you fight/take a run through areas instead of doing a mission/quest, the storyline is convoluted; it is less so with following the entire primary quest/mission sequence. Here are my responses to your opinions:

  • Boat instead of Shiverpeaks
    • Ascalon doesn't stretch down to the coast (map)
  • Working for White Mantle
    • Not too illogical, the lore is that the royal family fled and the lionguards failed, so the Mantle took control over Kryta.
  • Mantle turning evil
    • Fairly standard, they were manipulating you, they didn't "turn evil". (Maybe D&D Lawful Evil).
  • Suddenly undead against you
    • They always were, from the instant you arrived in Kryta. Think back to the first three Kryta missions.
  • Why ascension?
    • Lore: Ascension is the way to activate(-ish) your powers as Chosen. The Vizier sent you there so you could destroy the soul batteries holding shut the Door of Komalie.
  • How did the game go Charr => Lich Lord?
    • I am not exactly sure. Lets see:
      • (1) You leave Ascalon in search of a place of refuge.
      • (2) The Chosen "kidnapped", so you chase The Shining Blade.
      • (3) Mantle against you.
      • (4) Sceptre is the only chance to defeat the Mantle.
      • (5) Ascension to activate your chosen powers.
      • (6) Rescue Evennia/Infusion to defend vs Mursaat/Defend Jalis.
      • (7) Attack RoF to open the Door, which holds the weapon that can defeat Mursaat/Mantle.
      • (8) Vizier manipulating you; he uses the Titans against you.
      • (9) Destroying Titans, breaking Lich Lord's control over them.

Ebany Salmonderiel 21:20, 2 November 2007 (UTC)

This own reply demonstrates how needlessly complicated it was and didn't need to be. VanguardVanguard 03:23, 5 November 2007 (UTC)
As I typed the last part, I realised how complicated it was :P. But my first 4 points I still agree with completely on not being too complicated. —Ebany Salmonderiel 17:07, 5 November 2007 (UTC)
"not being too..." Was that a typo? VanguardImage:User-VanguardAvatar.PNG 17:19, 5 November 2007 (UTC)
The prophecies storyline was complicated, that is true. but as a Fantasy book reader myself, it was a dream come true. I wasn't reading untill a complicated storyline of deceit and friendship unfolded, I was unfolding it myself. I already thought at my first meeting with the mantle that they were a bit fishy, being shunned by the kind of ascalon and all, but then they drew me in with their friendlyness, until I discovered they sacrificed humans, making me immediately think back to my first urges. The faction storyline however, sucked. you start in Shing yea, you do a mission and you see the problem, a plague. you do the next 2 mission and you immediately know where the whole mission is going to, just so boring. The dungeon stuff from EOTN stolen from WOW? sorry but there were instances in GW far before they were in WOW. I say i'm not happy with them being less like SF, for there is but 1 way trough it, but they still rock.Rhydeble 18:19, 5 November 2007 (UTC)
since when were there instances in GW before WoW? VanguardVanguard 19:55, 5 November 2007 (UTC)
every time you enter an explorable, you get your own instance... - Y0_ich_halt Have a look at my page 20:46, 5 November 2007 (UTC)
That's not entirely what I mean. I was thinking more along the lines of Dungeons. VanguardVanguard 20:49, 5 November 2007 (UTC)
hmm... mission=instance? no, they have a storyline which WoW instances definetely don't :P - Y0_ich_halt Have a look at my page 20:53, 5 November 2007 (UTC)
Personally, I think Factions has the best storyline as of yet. It is really refreshing to be on an semi intelligent team, instead of blindly following everyone's orders, which always end up in more problems for the player instead of less. Prophecies is too complicated, even when reading the dialogues in between it hardly makes sense and the whole 'jump form mission to mission' thing made it even worse. When I play prophecies, I always get the feeling that the whole country consists of nothing but idiots, except for me, but I am an idiot because I follow idiots. Have you ever noticed that nobody ever knows what he is doing except for King Jalis? All the other 'plans' always break more than they fix. Nicky Silverstar 08:37, 6 November 2007 (UTC)
You're right, which is why Proph is so annoying. VanguardVanguard 17:07, 6 November 2007 (UTC)

RI I, like Rhydeble, read fantasy books, and I love all those convoluted storylines. That's probably why we disagree on the storyline thing. I like them with the real twists, where you can't tell where it's going to go next, because it has the element of surprise. You, on the other hand, prefer it to be kind-of set out, with a few half-twists. I guess that's why you don't like prophecies. —Ebany Salmonderiel 17:20, 6 November 2007 (UTC)

I like my share of twists, but proph iz just annoying. VanguardVanguard 17:41, 6 November 2007 (UTC)
I like plotline twists...I don't like the whole story changing everytime I have completed a mission. Some twists seem too fabricated. Prophecies...must have had its own factory. Some things just don't make sense. Nicky Silverstar 19:27, 6 November 2007 (UTC)

Re-explain Prophecies

I would say Ebany didn't sufficiently/accurately answer your confusion over the Prophecies storyline. You must have missed some of the dialogue quests:

  • Crossing the Shiverpeaks - As mentioned, Ascalon doesn't actually control a while lot of coastline, so it's not feasible. Also realise that this was supposed to be a rather large exodus of Ascalonians led by Rurik to seek refuge in Kryta. It's not just a handful of people, so it's illogical to go by sea (where you'd need time to assemble enough vessels).
  • Orders from the White Mantle - Why? Because you're trying to get them to grant asylum to the Ascalonians. This is from Gates of Kryta. You need to earn the Krytans' trust so that they'll let the Ascalonians settle on their lands.
  • Undead against you - Actually, by helping the White Mantle (in order to gain their help), it's you who's against the undead, not the other way around. These are undead... you can't exactly expect them to be warm and friendly.
  • Crystal Desert - You reach the desert because Vizier Khilbron brought you there. After the betrayal at Sanctum Cay, Kryta was no longer safe and the Shining Blade almost broken. The Vizier also did explain why you need to go to the desert - to achieve Ascension. Why? So that you'll be able to take the Unseen Ones and bring down the White Mantle.
  • Charr to Lich Lord - In the process of exacting vengeance on the White Mantle, you discovered what the Unseen Ones really are and what they were trying to protect. The Vizier finally revealed his true identity, and learning of his plans to unleash the Titans, you resolved to try and stop him from devastating the world.

I personally the storyline of all the campaigns are nicely presented. The reason why the main antagonist in Prophecies keeps changing and Factions is static is because of the story itself. In Factions, you are tasked with stopping Shiro, so of course it's always Shiro. In Prophecies, it's a case of accidentally being thrust into the job of heroes. You were just following Rurik, and then taking up his legacy of finding refuge for the Ascalonians, then found out the dark secrets of the White Mantle, and inadvertently joined the Shining Blade (to escape the White Mantle), then led by the Vizier to take on the Unseen Ones and take down the White Mantle, and finally to save the world after knowing that you have been manipulated and betrayed. -- ab.er.rant sig 00:56, 7 November 2007 (UTC)

Perhaps my opinion post was a little misleading. I *get* most of the story, i just think it was entirely too involved where it didn't need to be. If proph was more like EoTn, or stuck with the whore Charr invasion thing, I wouldn't be bitching. VanguardVanguard 01:31, 7 November 2007 (UTC)

Ah, I see. I think it's just a different style of storytelling. For Factions and Nightfall, it's more a of "for honor", "for duty" sort of questing. For Prophecies and EotN, it's more of a "stumbling onto a plot" or "accidental heroes" kinda story. I think having both is a good mix of storytelling. -- ab.er.rant sig 01:34, 7 November 2007 (UTC)
That's a good way of explaining it, perhaps I don't exactly like the "stumbling into it" type of storytelling, but then again I loved Morrowind and Oblivion >_> VanguardVanguard 01:35, 7 November 2007 (UTC)
A few points:
  • You're right, I forgot about the desert bit almost completely :P.
  • Um, didn't the undead attack you on the way to the first Kryta mission, before you were working with the Mantle?
  • Ascalon not having a whole lot of coastline is an understatement by far. If you look at the map, the country to the south of it, the one that borders with the desert, has the coastline. Ascalon is landlocked.
Also, I love (not loved, I still do ^^) Morrowind and Oblivion. —Ebany Salmonderiel 21:05, 7 November 2007 (UTC)
Slighjtly off topic but I said Loved past tense because I don't have the games anymore. I killed a good thousand hours on those games. VanguardVanguard 21:57, 7 November 2007 (UTC)
And I said love because I still play and create mods for them.—Ebany Salmonderiel 17:59, 8 November 2007 (UTC)

about sins in pve... you have obviously never played with me. ;) - Y0_ich_halt Have a look at my page 18:14, 5 November 2007 (UTC)

Obviously not. VanguardVanguard 19:54, 5 November 2007 (UTC)
I disagree with a few comments as well, mostly the ones about the Elementalist. They're ok, true, but in PvP, they're not nearly as big a threat as melee fighters are. Those spells are powerful, but only if you get close together, and sadly, few PvP'ers do that, even when I ask them politely. Nicky Silverstar 08:39, 6 November 2007 (UTC)
I found that ele's are a "hit or miss" class, you either suck or don't (in PvP.) VanguardVanguard 17:08, 6 November 2007 (UTC)

You've met me, but still say they suck. Well, you haven't done any high-level with me, but still... —Ebany Salmonderiel 17:20, 6 November 2007 (UTC)
I don't think ele's suck. I think they suck to play 'against'. But an awezome clazz. (certain key iz bugging out, bear with me.) VanguardVanguard 17:42, 6 November 2007 (UTC)

Role-playing

Hi, I've read your page like you asked on my talk page, and I must admit it is pretty cool. Guild Wars isn't really made for role=playing, but it is the little things that make it fun for the player. Not turning in the Brother Tosai quest is such an example, refusing to poison the Charr (in my case) is another. I am probably unique in the fact that I am a pacifist in a fighting game. :p Anyway, nice touch, glad to see others enjoy RP in GW al well. Take care. Nicky Silverstar 08:31, 6 November 2007 (UTC)

Aye, I only keep the Brother Tosai quest on the character that actually 'is' an Am Fah. Fun stuff though. VanguardVanguard 17:07, 6 November 2007 (UTC)
I'm also keeping the Brother Tosai quest, just to see what will happen as far as the storyline goes. If it works well, I may well make another character for Am-Fah roleplaying. I'm not a serious RPer, I just do it from time to time. —Ebany Salmonderiel 17:20, 6 November 2007 (UTC)
I'd like to RP more but not enough people do it. VanguardVanguard 17:42, 6 November 2007 (UTC)
Dude, you uberpwn for your roleplayageness. Glad to see someone is defying whoever's up there. If you ever need a roleplaying buddy for moral support or to help with a particularly critical crowd, just call on me m8 (but I don't do cheerleading). --MarinBloodbane 00:47, 9 November 2007 (UTC)
What does "roleplayageness" mean exactly? :P But yea, I'm just about open for RPs about anytime. Just note some of my characters are exclusive to certain areas. For example, Nikki is mostly found in the Far Shiverpeaks in EoTn 80% of the time. She can go to Ascalon as well but that's about it. Hasin can be in Shing Jea or Bukdek Byway mostly. VanguardVanguard 02:09, 9 November 2007 (UTC)
Ahh, I'm reminded of the horrid RP experiences I had back when I played Ultima Online... the "roleplay community" on the shard I played on were generally either inactive or elitist, opinionated jerks. That put me off of RP for more than a little while, and that's part of what drew me to Guild Wars and it's storyline, and things to do. I still RP on occasion, and have been a part of a few RP guilds (turns out not much has changed since the days of UO after all, which is why I'm no longer in a few of those RP guilds...) and find it to be great fun. I agree that GW doesn't lend itself well to freeform roleplay (unless you get a permanent group together to roleplay through the storylines, which can be a lot of fun), but it's there. Perhaps we'll meet and strike up a spontaneous roleplay session. *grin* --Valentein 02:17, 9 November 2007 (UTC)

(ri) I'm all up for spontaneous, I only have two limits:

  • Character compatability-I don't enjoy sticking a good-hearted character with an evil or emotionless one of some sort. Conflict is nice but I'd rather not stick these characters together on purpose.
  • Character regions-Some of my characters are exclusive to certain areas as I mentioned above. Nikki is a Norn hero, Hasin is Am fah(sorta), Theresa is a sunspear trainer. You can pretty much guess where my characters are exclusive too. VanguardVanguard 02:22, 9 November 2007 (UTC)
I'd love to roleplay my ele through all 3 campaigns with you. It's a pity about the time-zone difference... —Ebany Salmonderiel 10:57, 10 November 2007 (UTC)
