Background[edit]

Mykros never got to know his mother as he was left at an orphanage only hours after he was born. He was admitted to the Lionguard Training School in Lion's Arch, a place that acted both as an orphanage and a combat training school for prospective new recruits for the Lionguard. When students (or orphans turned students) reached the age of 18, their fighting prowess would be tested to determine their fate. Students that showed exceptional skill during their childhood years and did well during their final test would continue their training to become a Lionguard. Ones who didn't would be given an allowance and ejected from the school, to start a new life on their own.

Mykros was one of the skillful students, especially when using the shield and sword. The surname "Wielder" was in fact assigned to him after him demonstrating a natural affinity to the sword at a young age ("Mykros" was the name given to him by his mother). When it came to his eighteenth birthday and it was time to pass the test to become a Lionguard, Mykros went through with flying colours. As a present for his eighteenth birthday, Mykros was given a pendant by his Headmaster. The pendant, they said, was passed onto them by his mother and true to his word, the Headmaster agreed to only pass on this heirloom of his grandfather once he had become an adult. She wanted him to know that her father was a great warrior and protector of the people, and she knew in her heart that Mykros would follow in his footsteps.

By the time Mykros was 21, he had completed his training and went into service with the Lionguard. For two years he served the order well until the arrival of the Charr and the White Mantle shortly after. Amazingly, ever since the arrival of Saul D'Alessio and his White Mantle, Krytans were able to push back the Charr invasion out of their borders. People became disillusioned with the Lionguard and they lost most of their support. Eventually, it was becoming common for Lionguards in senior positions, losing their jobs to the White Mantle. The White Mantle were becoming the de facto armed force for Kryta leaving many Lionguards out of a job.

It would eventually become Mykros's turn and he was unsure what to do with himself. He despised the White Mantle and was suspicious of their "Unseen Gods" so he definitely didn't want to join them, yet they were doing a good job in securing Kryta's borders and because of this, there really wasn't much work left for a warrior if you weren't with the White Mantle. Mykros decided he had no choice but to become a mercenary and he would need to leave Kryta to find employment.

The first transport he came across was an Ascalon wagon at the Gates of Kryta with the letters "G.O.C." imprinted on its side. A well-dressed gentleman sporting a moustache was dismounting the wagon when Mykros asked if he could pay for passage to Ascalon. The Ascalon paused for a moment, noticing Mykros's plate mail, sword and shield. He then replied that if Mykros was willing to give him a few pointers on how to use that sword, he'd give a ride back to Ascalon for free. Mykros agreed and then set off on the long and dangerous journey through the Shiverpeaks to Ascalon. Along the way, Mykros learned that the man was Marc Grahamsworth and was in fact the Guild Leader of the Guild of Choice, a humanitarian guild that was seeking a democratic government in Ascalon. Mykros agreed with many of the ideals of the guild and became good friends with Marc by the time they reached Ascalon. It was then that he decided to join this Guild of Choice and that he would live up to his grandfather's reputation of being a great warrior and protector of the people.
