Map of the World

Is there a map of the world in circulation in regards to Guild Wars? I'm interested in seeing how the 3 areas of Guild Wars are positioned. I've been told that Elona is south of Tyria but just wanted to know if there was a more indepth map. House Of Furyan 01:10, 1 February 2008 (UTC)

There's a fan-made map in the Tyria (world) article, it's reasonably accurate, however there is some disputes and uncertainties. If the statue seen in Crystal Overlook is the statue in the Arid Sea then that would place the two areas right next to eachother, and Cantha is hard to pinpoint, all we know that Cantha is southwest of Lion's Arch, and that Shing Jea Island is southwest of Kodlonu Hamlet. As for the Battle Isles, I don't think we have any information on their location. -- Gordon Ecker 01:39, 1 February 2008 (UTC)
I really think Steve Costa did a marvelous job on that world map. I've not looked into the fine details of geography and scale, but overall I feel it has quite an accurate feel to it, and I admire the craftsmanship. :) -- Gaile User gaile 2.png 19:38, 1 February 2008 (UTC)
Oh man I just noticed the ancient weapon, and its original use would have been sooo cool. Too bad it wasn't implemented. That map shows some cool things. But the ring of fire look alike island in the north keeps bugging me. Guess ill have to wait for GW2. Ajc2123
What is the ancient weapon you speak of? --Ravious 20:27, 1 February 2008 (UTC)
Look on the map in the crystal desert. Or type it in the search thing, I don't know how to use links on wiki yet. Ajc2123
Wicked map!!! =D that is awesome. I just have a question though: What is the name of that stone island in upper tyria? and the mountains above maguuma? Could we see a globe version of the GW world lol (sorry for the 3 in 1 question, cant wait for GW2). TitanSacranus 01:15, 5 February 2008 (UTC)

Running

I wrote a suggestion for an agency to coordinate the buisness of running in GW2, but one comment suggested that the Anet staff looks down on the practice of running in GW and would do whatever they could to prevent it from happening in GW2. If this is so, I'd like to know why and have a chance to defend the practice of running, if it is at all possible.--Shai Halud 06:45, 2 February 2008 (UTC)

The person said he "thinks" aNet looks down on running but I searched Gaile's archives and found that they do NOT look down on running. They accept that running is a part of the gaming world as much as farming. Although I doubt (and in my opinion) that they won't actively support running by giving us run boxes or whatnot. Most likely they'll give us passive support for scams though! Renin 07:19, 2 February 2008 (UTC)
They seem to be okay with running but against sequence-breaking. For example, in Eye of the North you can get a run to any town or outpost except Doomlore Shrine and the Central Transfer Chamber, but you can't skip any of the primary quests. -- Gordon Ecker 07:40, 2 February 2008 (UTC)
If they truly are against sequence-breaking, how come neither the wildly popular "Docks Ferry" (and associated Cantha/Tyria transporters) nor the "Vabbi Run" (through the Desolation) are fixed ? Ho-hum ... Clan Yumemiru 13:54, 2 February 2008 (UTC)
Sequence breaking is about skipping major parts of the storyline. The docks ferry doesn't give you the ability to skip everything until that stage - you can't start it until you've completed the primary. Every campaign after Prophecies added something to stop sequence breaking. - BeX iawtc 14:38, 2 February 2008 (UTC)
The Droks run was sequence breaking , and after a while, it was made more and more difficult, and now only ppl that only have prophecies want it because it is easy to get to max armor in elona and cantha Killer Revan 03:02, 10 February 2008 (UTC)

Anet Testing GvG AI (Bots)

Hey Gaile, Was curious if you can shed light on the "special exhibition matches" between StS and sup in observer mode. Both teams are CLEARLY bot's, is this a sign that Anet are testing the ventures of being able to scrim AI Teams?

No, as far as I know, that is not us testing anything, bot or otherwise. I have no idea what those games are, and I've sent an email to learn more. Thanks for pointing this out. -- Gaile User gaile 2.png 03:50, 19 February 2008 (UTC)

Out of curosity, how do you know the teams are all bots? Med Luvin 15:12, 19 February 2008 (UTC)

I didn't think they were bots, I just thought it was really freaking wierd that [sup] wiped [StS] at the flagstand and then just sat there waiting for [StS] to base res... Three times... And random [StS] people standing at the spawn or seemingly stuck at a wall just beyond the spawn. Not to mention the fact that [sup] wiped [StS] a number of times when the latter had full morale and then resigned after VoD (not long after wiping [StS] again). I've not GvGd in a long time, but I'd think even with the slight NPC disadvantage they had and the VoD and ViO changes they'd have been able to wipe [StS]'s lord flat at the stand. -- Armond WarbladeUser Armond sig image.png 22:36, 19 February 2008 (UTC)
wait they can bot entire teams?? Wouldnt they just private server it? 24.141.45.72 02:45, 20 February 2008 (UTC)
Whoa ure right, sumthing was up with those matches.. either they were being nice to eachother and failing at interrupts (D-shot on a paragon??) weird SoD's (a target that just rezzed away fomr the action) and weird tactics (not pushing into the half-wiped team) What was up with those? [EDIT] not to mention terrible rezurect sig reaction times 24.141.45.72 02:57, 20 February 2008 (UTC)

HAHAH ARMOND IS RIGHT!!! 11:35 look at [StS] flagger.. plz tell me he would run into a gate spamming pious.. and plz tell me that a mesmer with no monks would push into [sup]. [sup] is no rezzing and half turtling with gate npc's after wiping [StS] 24.141.45.72 [edit] 13:10 [StS] flagger runnning into wall [edit](sry edit spam but this is interesting... could the flagger be screwed up because this match took place when pious was 5 seconds? But the obs mode plays it back as 3 seconds pious, screwing lots of things up 03:01, 20 February 2008 (UTC)

Both Teams seem to have very weird lack-of-control issues, however I'd guess that the match was played by real players and the recording of the match is corrupt. I think the observer mode is an AI-controlled replay (replay as in played anew) of the match, reenacted using the recorded actions the players sent to the server during the original game. Now if the recording, i.e. the sequence of commands that were sent to the server, or the replaying AI itself is corrupt, it might yield the results we observe. I think it's very unlikely that the #2 and #3 guild use bots in these games while having played with real players all the way to achieve this ranks (and they have to - even the most mediocre guild would have been able to defeat a team controlled by an AI like the one observed). -- Sai 12:38, 20 February 2008 (UTC)
well they were certainly no bots. they were playing a show match, which was shown on http://game-tv.com (a german IP-tv Channel). 87.160.83.53 13:22, 20 February 2008 (UTC)
So it was recorded prior to the skill update, then the skill update came into effect and the recording messed up. its the only way i can forsea the red's flag runner not capping ONCE in the 2nd match but rather leaving the flag outside the gate.

The best thing is when sup runner goes into the base, goes to the point of the flag, takes an unexisting flag, goes to the flagstand, touches it, goes back again, does the same... and the real flag is on the floor in the footmen area, oh well, and casting weapon of warding just before entering the flagstand...while StS was waiting for rez --User rayd sig.pngRayd 20:36, 21 February 2008 (UTC)

Sharing Account Question

Hi. I've been asked to join an alliance but i'm concerned about how it's run. The alliance has a dummy lead guild which is lead by an account shared by two of the guild leaders(who are in different countries). Is this allowed under the EULA and could the guild leaders be in trouble for doing this.

Sharing accounts is prohibited by the User Agreement, for many good reasons. Those who work in Support tell me that shared accounts result in more support tickets than nearly any other issue. I do not think that we spend time actively searching for shared accounts in order to ban people. However, I can tell you that if there is an issue -- for instance, if the two currently using the account have a falling out and one of them blocks the other from accessing the account -- Support cannot provide assistance of any kind. On a personal level, I don't really see the point of having a "dummy lead guild" for an alliance, and I would be concerned about my guild leader using a shared account because I think that's an unstable arrangement, and the failure of the relationship between the guild leaders could have negative effects on the guild or alliance itself. -- Gaile User gaile 2.png 22:53, 19 February 2008 (UTC)
Gaile said it all... I'd find/make a new guild/alliance, were it me. -- Armond WarbladeUser Armond sig image.png 02:38, 20 February 2008 (UTC)
In my guild, there's an officer with a shared account, him and his 2 sisters... but, one of the sisters isn't active, and he gets around well with the other one ;) But if he was the leader of the guild, I'd have a problem with it, too --Aquila 12:22, 20 February 2008 (UTC)
Re. The point of dummy guilds leading an alliance. The idea is often just to have a decentralized leadership, something that Guild Wars does not support very easily. The game as it stands has a guild structured under the leadership of one person who in turn follows the alliance leadership of one person. There are many players in Guild Wars who actually prefer not to have any single king-like figures and a dummy guild is one way of facilitating a ruling council of nominated spokespeople in multi-guild situations. -- WarBlade 12:40, 20 February 2008 (UTC)
Oh, I understand why people set up a "dummy guild." I meant to say that I don't think the structure is useful or necessary and that in the end, I feel that an alliance should have a leader. If I weren't comfortable with the alliance enough to trust the leader, I don't think I'd be comfortable with the alliance without a leader, you see? ;) Anyway, that is just personal opinion, and for those who don't like that system, there's nothing prohibiting going the route of a leaderless alliance and they are welcome to do so. -- Gaile User gaile 2.png 17:04, 20 February 2008 (UTC)
Thanks for the replies. Should Gaile's statement be cavet'd by 'Unless they break the account sharing part of the EULA'?
Well, I was speaking only of "dummy guilds," not the sharing of an account. Account sharing is strictly forbidden, for a number of reasons, and I obviously would never endorse (or even understand) such a thing. (You should see the very sad support tickets that come in on that subject, where a person sharing an account blocks access, sells off the other person's items, etc. Very sorry situations. :( ) -- Gaile User gaile 2.png 18:02, 20 February 2008 (UTC)
Just wondering... what action would be taken if an account was found to be shared? would you ban the account or simply take the mod policy of "we dont endorse it, and any problems that occur with this we cant help you."? 24.69.179.206 00:25, 21 February 2008 (UTC)
I honestly don't know the answer to that question. I could ask Support, of course. I suspect they would say that they do not actively conduct data searches to try to find and eliminate shared accounts because those are just not as high a priority as other issues. However, I think that if they learned of a shared account, they might try to resolve ownership so that support issues did not arise in the future. As I said, many issues do arise from shared or used or resold accounts. Frankly, I don't know how people share accounts -- I need all that storage for ME! ;) -- Gaile User gaile 2.png 05:12, 21 February 2008 (UTC)

In Battle Skill Pinging Bug

Now only displays a blank line rather than the 'Using x' line.

Yes, no idea if it's been reported or not but looks like this if your ping your skill with CTRL+key Sample of the bug Davor Belegnaur 23:10, 21 February 2008 (UTC)
Should be fixed in a Live Build just about now. Thanks. -- Gaile User gaile 2.png 00:33, 22 February 2008 (UTC)

Strange Bug

Tonight we had a guildie purchase Nightfall and whether this bug is related or not, who knows. Its really of little concern, I just hope there isn't more to it.
Said guildie was shown in the Guild window as being logged into their primary character, but was speaking in guild chat as another character. I have screen shots if you'd like to see, but thought I'd point it out. This person had their status set to "Online" and was fully signed in to the friends list. While of little concern, I'm sure, it was very surprising to see. -elviondale (tahlk) 03:00, 24 February 2008 (UTC)

Thats a friend list error...This happens so many times for me. It happens when you change characters to fast for it to update. Simple Fix -- Close Guild Wars and re-login. 68.151.27.108 03:24, 24 February 2008 (UTC)
Ahhh, this is the one where if you log out and log back in, everything gets properly synched up, right? -- Gaile User gaile 2.png 03:27, 24 February 2008 (UTC)
Yes it is...68.151.27.108 03:30, 24 February 2008 (UTC)
Its related to the other age old bug (guild hall kick glitch). -DominatorMatrix- 05:18, 24 February 2008 (UTC)
Makes me wonder if it'll ever get fixed. At times I will log into a character, drop an item into storage, switch to another character, get the item, log out and then back into the first character only to get booted out of the hall. Really annoying, and I hope it gets fixed soon. I don't like logging into a character to find it isn't where I left it. Nbajammer User Nbajammer sig.png 00:19, 26 February 2008 (UTC)
I have another problem with that kicking-out-of-gh thing... I usually play the game in English, but I'm around the German districts all the time. Now, when I get kicked outta the hall, the saved settings for standard ditricts are overridden, and I end up again in the ENglish ditricts. Really annoying if u wanna play with a guildie, he says he's in dis 1, you look at the district and see you're in No1 too, but the wrong language.... The most annoying is having to go through that "More Options" dialogue all the time... --Aquila Noctis 18:41, 26 February 2008 (UTC)
Guten tag, Aquila. :) This is a bug I remember from a month or two ago. I have located notes on it over on the pages that the QA Team uses for bug tracking. Here's the info I found. Hope that helps you! -- Gaile User gaile 2.png 06:09, 29 February 2008 (UTC)
It's the same bug I get and have mentioned before, only mine has an issue between the American and European servers. Sadly enough, the workaround doesn't work properly, and will get reset. I wrote a ticket about it, and apparently they're still working on it because I've not had response in a while but it hasn't been closed yet. (Well, I assume that means they're still working on it.) Maybe it's something you could look into, Gaile, but is there any way of checking what their progress is? It seems a fairly big issue. -- User Elveh sig.png Elv 06:34, 29 February 2008 (UTC)
Please look for the bug -- and any further information -- on the page that I previously linked. I just don't have the bandwidth to continually check on bugs; that's why we have a team of experts working on them. :) Once referred, I'd like you to take the question up with those working directly on them. Thanks for understanding. -- Gaile User gaile 2.png 00:37, 11 March 2008 (UTC)

Alliance Battle Trouble & lag attacks

I know this is the wrong place to point it out but since this ...trouble... have been there for a while and it dont seems to upset ArenaNet maybe if I report it there it will draw your attention. So here it is. Shortly after that we experienced lags. I dont know if it's related or not but each lag was preceding an assault ( kurzicks did not seem to be affected by these lags ). I got an error 7 just after a few lags. Serge Yseron 01:37, 26 February 2008 (UTC)

Please place this on the appropriate page: The Bugs Page linked from the right near the top of my page. Thank you. -- Gaile User gaile 2.png 01:59, 26 February 2008 (UTC)
It's always a pleasure to see how fast you can react when it matters. By your command, my Lady. Serge Yseron 02:02, 26 February 2008 (UTC)
O_O you mean the AB "out of memory expolit" is still out there?!!! OR the only other reason is busy servers. 68.151.27.108 04:38, 26 February 2008 (UTC)
I'm pretty sure that exploit has been nailed. I don't know the cause of this situation, but I really believe Serge will be able to help us figure it out with his ticket, which he's kindly agreed to send. Hopefully, we'll see improvement soon. -- Gaile User gaile 2.png 05:19, 26 February 2008 (UTC)
Submitted a ticket today at lunch time, however I do hope that not submitting tickets do not prevent concerned people from investigating such issues. By the way, wouldnt disabling skills usage until counter reach zero be an efficient temp fix for this 'bug' ? Maybe making special asserts that transmit mini-reports to a dedicated server ( with an ID to avoid redundencies ) would also help to catch 'bugs' as soon as they are raised ? I dont know, it's up to ArenaNet now. I feel confident that they will fix it sooner. Serge Yseron 13:11, 26 February 2008 (UTC)
This has nothing to do with lag. Its a glitch in which kurzicks can "bug" through a fence in Kaanai. 2/3 of the Kurzick spawn points have this ability, in Kaanai only I believe. I already sent a detailed report and screenshots of myself and my team using said glitch.--Ryudo 18:08, 27 February 2008 (UTC)
Concerning lags, I was thinking about the players who used the exploit rather than about the exploit beeing responsible for lags, but your input is welcomed. Yseron - 90.29.50.33 18:50, 27 February 2008 (UTC).
Lags are caused by your ISP, computer not coughing out enough FPS, or server being full/busy etc. But that "bug" is a pure mapping bug...Most mapping bugs simpily need only a place for you to stand. Click a certin amout of clicks and Volia! Mapping+pathing bug= Hidden Way In. Which in terms is a cheat--->Exploit -DominatorMatrix- 18:57, 27 February 2008 (UTC)
That may be the only reason, or that may not be. I will let the experts of the network dev team sort it out if they ever have to, for we do not have the proper tools to answer this with zero false assertions. One thing I am sure ( and I dont say it is the case here ) is that some network attacks aimed at financial companies involved spams which the isp was obviously not responsible for. Yseron - 90.29.50.33 19:08, 27 February 2008 (UTC).
Getting side tracked here (whisels), but well said. -DominatorMatrix- 19:14, 27 February 2008 (UTC)
This exploit is indeed still active, the programmers only made it so that instead of a simple dialogue box saying "Out of memory. Array.cpp (81)" you get the normal crash report window with "Assertion: Out of Memory"... But I really doubt this exploit is the cause of what you are describing.--Pablo24 07:12, 29 February 2008 (UTC)
I am myself doubting that this is the case, that's why I did not say it was. Yseron - 86.76.87.84 12:58, 29 February 2008 (UTC)

I confirm error 81 "Assertion: Out of memory" is still active!!!! 68.151.27.108 23:39, 29 February 2008 (UTC)

Concerning this problem I heard from Mike'O Brien that they use std allocs with some extra code to track allocations. That leads me to ask my self if they ever caugh the origin of these allocations and tried to prevent them. Yseron - 90.9.251.88 10:08, 1 March 2008 (UTC)
