Hall of Monuments Question

I got a question the people that have Hall of Monuments and they get some rewards and things. So if I don't have Hall of Monuments will I get cool rewards like the people get if they have Hall of Monuments? --The preceding unsigned comment was added by User:Xyron (talk).

The rewards are almost entirely for GW2 and they are only available if you have the HoM in GW1. The only thing that you can get special in GW1, AFAIK, is that you can charm a Rainbow Phoenix in the Hall, if you meet certain requirements (check that article for details). Good luck.  — Tennessee Ernie Ford (TEF) 23:32, 1 December 2010 (UTC)
And you can't even do that (charm the Rainbow Phoenix) if you don't have Eye of the North expansion, which is a basic requirement to even get to the Hall of Monuments. 66.170.212.17 00:00, 2 December 2010 (UTC)
And you won't get any rewards in GW2 if you don't have Eye of the North. Roar! Poki#3 (talk) 02:15, 2 December 2010 (UTC)

Pre Searing Gold Cap

Is there a ceiling cap on how much gold you can accumulate in Pre-searing? For example no more than 100k?

In theory, yeah, its like the rest of the game. you could accede that 100k gold cap by using black dye as money.--NeilUser Neil2250 sig icon6.png 19:17, 2 December 2010 (UTC)

Weird auto-minimizing

These problems have started to appear just recently. Game can randomly, thought most of the time, minimize itself on startup or after trying to restore the window (no matter if minimized by myself or by itself). Only happens if i run the game fullscreen. - J.P.User J.P. sigicon.pngTalk 13:17, 3 December 2010 (UTC)

I've had the same issue. Usually when another program opens a window, but lately it seems to happen for no reason. Especially annoying since the game takes over ten seconds to un-minimize itself. --Irgendwer 14:41, 3 December 2010 (UTC)

(Edit conflict) You can only equip 8 skills at once. This is one of the massive strengths in Guild Wars. You have to plan before hand and take the skills you're going to need. You can learn as many skills as you want. In a town/outpost you can change your equipped skills with learned skills by pressing K.- TheRave talk (talk) 01:25, 5 December 2010 (UTC)

Missions

afternoon im trying to get the last of the factions missions done but all it list are 12 missions an i need 13 do i need to do one of the kurzick missions to get the 13th --The preceding unsigned comment was added by 68.2.219.115 (talk).

Yes, you do have to complete the missions on the Kurzick side. I imagine you have yet to complete The Eternal Grove. Note that to do this mission, you must first finish Befriending the Kurzicks, which needs 10k Kurzick faction points, and then The Defenders of the Forest. G R E E N E R 19:39, 6 December 2010 (UTC)

problem with dzagonur misson with the master of whispers

hey ive got a problem. i want to do the dzagonur bastion mission but the problem is i need the master of whispers. for some reason, i dont have him. i did do the margrid the sly mission but i believe that you get the master of whispers later on and like i said, im almost sertain i got him before but now hes not on my heros list and i cant do the mission can you help?

When you first go through the game, you choose between gaining Margrid the Sly or Master of Whispers. Margrid will take you down the path to do Pogahn Passage and then Dasha Vestibule, which is the path you're doing now.
MoW gives two different missions, Rilohn Refuge and Dzagonur Bastion, which you can go back and complete at a later date. If you join up with another person who has MoW, then you can do the missions now. Your other option is to complete the game and gain MoW yourself in the end-game area. G R E E N E R 21:09, 7 December 2010 (UTC)
ok now i might sound like an idiot but just hear me out. so right now im at the baston place and my choices are to skip the mission or do it with someone else. so if i skip it, where do i go? where is the next person to talk to for the next mission that doesnt require the master of whispers? --The preceding unsigned comment was added by 74.106.21.171 (talk).
Good question. Take a look at these missions and quests to locate yourself in the storyline. The blue texts are the primary quests and missions that you need to accomplish. Notice that there is a split depending on if you have Margrid or MoW. Chances are you should find something in the Kodash Bazaar to direct you.
If you got to Vabbi by being run there, you'll have to go back and do the prior the missions before being able to continue. G R E E N E R 02:06, 8 December 2010 (UTC)

Weapon Enchantment Mod effect

Does a weapon enchantment mod really effect an enchantment with a "fixed" duration skill?

Example: Would a Scythe Grip of Enchanting really increase the duration of the enchantment, Aura of Holy Might? Which has a "fixed duration of 20 seconds. Effectively extending it to 24 seconds?

I can see it extending the duration of an enchantment that has a "variable", dependent on a skill level, duration. Like Asuran Scan, Duration: 10 seconds at Asuran Lvl 5, increasing it (20%) to 12 seconds.

But a "fixed" duration?

Thank you,

George

Yes it does. It affects any enchantments you cast. Also Asuran scan is a hex.
My example: Patient spirit = 2 secconds enchant using any enchantment mod will raise the cap on that enchantment. Also "Of Enchanting is a weapon upgrade that lengthens the duration of enchantments you cast by 10-20%. " --Nataliexxx 05:15, 8 December 2010 (UTC)
There's an unnecessarily complex and poorly documented method of determining enchantment length based on a near-infinite number of factors. You can read more about it here if you're interested. –Jette 05:37, 8 December 2010 (UTC)

The Great Norn Alemoot

hello, I need help solving a quest called The Great Norn Alemoot. The quest tells me to run a slalom by running on each farside of the flags without going too close to them but i don't know how to. Every time I try to succeed this quest I always fail the race. What's the trick to this? Please help anyone? 99.252.163.223 00:53, 11 December 2010 (UTC)

If you take a close look at the flags, you'll see that one side of each of them is extended and pointing out from the course. I assume this is what people meant when they said "far side". You must pass each flag on the side to which it is pointing. It does get annoying to hit this part properly, especially as once you finish it you have to face the pig trial.
Take a look at the slalom course before you start the event. G R E E N E R 01:28, 11 December 2010 (UTC)
Also, if you press F11 and go to Graphics and then uncheck the Enable post-process effects (I think it's that one) it gets rid of the blurry screen when drunk, allowing you to see the course better. I hope that helps! --Dragon Nataku talk to me 16:36, 11 December 2010 (UTC)

weapon doing below minimal damage?!

Hello. I am a level 20 warrior with a war hammer with stats of 17-35 blunt damage if requirement of 7 (or 11?) is met in the hammer mastery attribute. I have met and exceeded this level, but my hammer will only do about 7 pts of damage. This is really disturbing the gameplay and I have no idea of why its happening. Please help.

The damage calculation scheme for Guild Wars is complicated; it's rare to hit for listed damage even against low-armor opponents of your own level. If you don't feel like reading through some mathematical formulas and guesswork on the part of the community, what you need to know is that enemies with high armor (warriors, paragons) will take a lot less damage than enemies with low armor (most casters). Cracked Armor helps to alleviate this, as will anything that penetrates armor (you can try having a hero give you Judge's Insight if you want). Moreover, your attribute will cause a given weapon's damage to increase past the requirement: a warrior with 16 in hammer mastery will do even more than the listed damage. You can see more at the armor and damage articles. –Jette 20:36, 11 December 2010 (UTC)

Lost Characters

I am new at GW. I lost MOX and 2 heroes when I went to the Temple of Balthazar. I need help. Are they lost forever?

I'm not sure what you're talking about. You can't "lose" heroes (aside from Koss for a short time during the Nightfall storyline). You might not be able to pick heroes in certain outposts, but you never lose them. Roar! Poki#3 (talk) 03:40, 13 December 2010 (UTC)
Also,MOX can only be obtained after being a LVL 10 Character but you will lose MOX as a Hero after achieving LVL 20.As stated above by Poki some Heroes are not available during some missions.Hope this helps some.--DPlayaD 16:39, 9 January 2011 (UTC)
Sorry, that's not true: once you unlock any hero, that hero is always available for anything except solo quests/missions. If any hero is available in an outpost, all of the heroes are available. Of course, new characters will have to separately unlock each hero...so e.g. Playa Del Rey might have MOX, but Vista Del Rey might not.
If you travel to an outpost for PvP or start a solo mission, heroes (and henchmen) will be removed from the party, but you can easily put them back by bringing up the party selection window (default key, [P]) and selecting the [Hero] tab.  — Tennessee Ernie Ford (TEF) 17:34, 9 January 2011 (UTC)

Hey, I haven't been logged into Guild Wars since I have upgraded from Windows Vista to Windows 7 and now when I play, I can not see the description of any spells on my Skill Bar. I've tried setting every options tab to "Default" but that still doesn't work. Any Suggestions?

The pop-up boxes with skill descriptions when you hover over the skills in the skill bar? Make sure the "Do not show skill tips on skill bars" option in the general tab is unchecked. (It's the 7th option down.). If it isn't, try checking and unchecking it. Roar! Poki#3 (talk) 03:40, 13 December 2010 (UTC)

Can't start "A Good Deed"

I can't seem to get Thackeray to give me the "A Good Deed" quest. I've done the Missing Vanguard and have talked to Gwen. I've heard the dialogue up thru the picnic. When I talk to Thackeray he goes on about the scavenger hunt items but I still don't have the Good Deed quest.

If you completed Wintersday Cheer during the 2008 or 2009 Wintersday then you don't have to (and can't) do that quest. The scavenger hunt is the next step in the chain. You should be OK. Roar! Poki#3 (talk) 03:40, 13 December 2010 (UTC)

missing Monumental Tapestry

how do i get back a missing missing Monumental Tapestry --The preceding unsigned comment was added by 173.16.38.17 (talk).

I assume that means you have either traded away, trashed, or not received a Monumental Tapestry as a reward yet. If it is either of the first two, you'll have to buy another from a player in-game. If you haven't received one as a reward, check your primary quests for where to go. G R E E N E R 05:05, 18 December 2010 (UTC)

elite skills that have a pvp version

i am working on my titles for elite skill hunter, and am doing the elonan skill hunter title atm im 128/140 and the elite skills that i need are those ones that have a pvp version and it will not let me cap them why is that? and will i ever be able to complete this title? i need 12 more for this title and would like to get it accomplished soon . your reply is greatly appreciated!!!!--Mntrose23 05:31, 18 December 2010 (UTC)

The PvP and PvE versions of elite skills are the same skill in terms of unlocking and the title. Either use an elite skill tome to acquire the skill (assuming you have it unlocked on your account) or go and capture the PvE version of the skill where it's located. G R E E N E R 05:36, 18 December 2010 (UTC)
i just tried that and it says it is known and it is grayed out and wont let me capture it, i have also tried useing an elite skill tome, nothing seems to be working and it is Not showing on my list of skills and attributes, it only shows the pvp verson on the list. so im lost and a lil upset, that i cant complete these titles because of this reason!!!! --The preceding unsigned comment was added by User:Mntrose23 (talk).
Dude, chill. It's alright, you can finish the titles. Go to any PvP outpost or the Great Temple of Balthazar and talk to a Priest of Balthazar. You can also use your guild hall if he's unlocked. Look through each of his skill lists for any elite skills that are not greyed out. Those are the ones you need to capture first. When you've got all of those, if you're still stumped, make sure you get the Lightbringer Signet. It might still count towards the title, I'm not entirely sure. It used to be elite but isn't anymore (because it's crap). If all else fails, there are numerous universal skill lists on the wiki. Find them, print the pages out and cross out every skill that you come across on your character's skill menu. The ones left are the ones you need. Finally, remember that elite core skills are required for the title as well. –Jette 06:39, 18 December 2010 (UTC)

Well first off i'm not a Dude! but none the less i have done just what you have said! and at the priest of balthazar they are all grayed out showing known! i have lighbringer signet! i have printed the list and have crossed out everyone that shows on my skill and attribute list , the only ones that are still showing are the pve verison of the pvp! i just completed one for incoming which is a para elite skill and i have the pvp version on list , and it would not let me capture the reg elite one. i have all the core elite skills as well !

Dont worry about the PvP versions of all skills; ignore them, they -only- apply to PvP-characters. Capping any PvE versions of skills will also unlock their PvP versions. Using capture signets or skill tomes will contribute to your skill hunter. There is also an awesome player-created downloadable tool called Mapping Out. Try that if your still frustrated! ^_^ --Falconeye 07:02, 18 December 2010 (UTC)

ok thank you i downloaded the mapping-out. and will try that. and im not worried really about the pvp versions im trying to cap the pve ones. but still ill try your idea and see if that will do it for me ,

What they're trying to say is that the PvE version and the PvP version of the same skill is the same thing. If you're checking in your K menu for a skill, then it will ALWAYS show the PvP version because that's what guildhalls do. If you go to a town, the skill will still be in your K menu, but it will now be the PvE version. The point is, you don't have to cap a specific version of the skill as depending on what outpost you are in (like the guildhall versus, say, Kamadan) it will change to the PvP or PvE version. All you ever have to do is capture the skill once, so if you already have, say, "Incoming!" in your K menu as PvP then it still counts as the PvE version as well. Just make sure you're checking your K menu and not the Priest of Balthasar or something like that that shows account-wide unlocks, because the Skill Hunter title is per character. --Dragon Nataku talk to me 17:14, 18 December 2010 (UTC)

Guild Wars - support

Hello All,

I were recently thinking about buing guild wars game(s) - but there is an issue I would like to clear first. I am an casual player (one of the reasons I didnt choose blizard game) however this tittle is rather old. If you bind that facts together - posibility appears, as I will be dedicating not enough time to game, I will not be progressing fast - so I will require lots of time to finish this game.

Most of other network based games are somehow protected (I mean the one most popular one), some by posibility of users creating theit servers/games on their clients (not mmo solution - but game can be used even after developer no longer support it) As for MMo games, they have constant fee (which mean that descent numbers of servers = servers are at leaast not burdening company, which mean that are less affected by eventual company financial instability) ans simultaneously - because of the fee there are emulators available & constantly developed.

I prefer the play once and play idea, but am curious if there is any information available, about what is going to happen with game servers once NCSoft decide to stop its support (or it will be sold or bankrupt).

It is not that I think this will happen but - it is always good to have back up solution, (simplyfied server software relese etc...).

My question is - are there any informations regarding this question available? (I failed to find it myself) The preceding unsigned comment was added by 83.208.137.166 (talk • contribs) at 09:20, 18 December 2010 (UTC).

Anet has stated on several occasions that they intend to keep the servers open for as long as there are people playing. If/when that happens or their position changes, I wouldn't be surprised if they released a final update to facilitate private servers or suchlike, but short of a crystal ball, there's no way of knowing. - Tanetris 17:40, 18 December 2010 (UTC)
The gaming industry is inherently unstable (since people's tastes change and there's a constant demand for "new"), so no one can promise you that any game is going to last long enough for any particular player to finish. Here's what we know:
  • As Tanetris says, ANet has stated that they intend to keep GW1 servers going as long as there are people playing (they haven't said how many people count as playing).
  • ANet has a strong commitment to pay once, play forever; they have a strong track record on this, too.
    • They have released numerous no-cost-to-player updates in the last 18 months: War in Kryta, Hearts of the North, new festival activities. They have funded this through optional sources: costumes, name changes, changes to character skins.
    • Their GW1 & GW2 staff have repeated their commitment on the record in virtually every interview.
  • They have also stated that they will not support player-run servers and have re-emphasized the relevant parts of the EULA that prohibits this.
In short, I think you are as safe committing to Guild Wars as you could be choosing any other game. Good luck and happy hunting.  — Tennessee Ernie Ford (TEF) 18:30, 18 December 2010 (UTC)
Currently, the Eye of the North expansion pack is half price at the NCsoft Store and In-Game Store, so now would be an ideal time to buy. Note that you need to purchase one of the campaigns first (Prophecies, Factions, or Nightfall) to be able to play Eye of the North. --Silver Edge 18:46, 18 December 2010 (UTC)

I started a free trial and then bought the game at target. Is there anyway I could use my trial characters for that?

Yes. When you first logon using the trial account, use the "edit account" button and apply the key from the purchased account to the trial.  — Tennessee Ernie Ford (TEF) 20:59, 18 December 2010 (UTC)

HF frequency too high for monitor

when i want to open GW the monitor goes black and says hf-79,9 monitor only works from 50-70hf could someone please help thx--41.30.7.170 08:53, 20 December 2010 (UTC)

Try changing the Guild Wars shortcut and adding a -windowed command line argument. This should start the game in windowed mode and you should be able to change the refresh rate options before removing the argument.
If that doesn't work, then you'll have to reinstall Guild Wars. This will reset graphics settings. The easiest way to do that is to completely delete Gw.dat in your Guild Wars folder, then using the -image command line argument to download every file. Keep in mind there are about 3,5 to 4 GB of data to download.
Finally, you should set a Windows option to prevent such things in the future. In Windows XP right click the Desktop and select Properties. In the Settings tab click Advanced. In the Monitor tab, check the option to remove settings that this monitor can't handle. This should remove out of range resolutions and refresh options. Roar! Poki#3 (talk) 13:45, 20 December 2010 (UTC)
I can add, sometimes changing the refresh rate settings on the Advanced, Monitor tab doesn't give the desired effect if rate is defined in the settings of video driver. Try to find them on the driver control panel (usually accessible via the Control Panel or display icon / context menu on the Taskbar). If this doesn't help much, the last remedy is in changing the refresh rate in DirectX settings. In Windows XP, run the DirectX diagnostic utility typing dxdiag in the command line. Go to More Help tab, Override button. You can enter the exact refresh rate instead of default, like 70 or 75 or whatever your monitor is able to support. This will affect any program using DirectX in full screen mode. Mistakes here can be harmful for monitor, at least you will lose image in the full screen mode, so it's recommended for advanced users. --Slavic 01:05, 25 December 2010 (UTC)

In my Hall of Monuments, there is this armor section that records my armor. Can you tell me what is going on and what it might mean?99.177.254.78 16:25, 28 December 2010 (UTC)

You need to clarify your question a bit.
While in the hall of monuments, ALL your accounts achivements are shown, if you have armour on the statue, that armor is shown on your character- Not the one that put it up there, so lets say your paragon puts elite sunspear on the monument and your dervish has not put, or got, any up there, if your dervish goes into the hall, that armour (elite sunspear) will be shown on that character (-Your dervish) --NeilUser Neil2250 sig icon6.png 19:08, 28 December 2010 (UTC)

Re:EOTN previous question

I want to add something to my previous question regarding Finishing EOTN- In my Hall of Monuments it says my Dervish is wearing Elite Armor but it actually shows him wearing The regular Aromor. Could it be because he is wearing a costume right now? Thanks99.177.254.78 16:30, 28 December 2010 (UTC)

+5 Energy

I have a question and was wondering how I am getting +5 energy every time I'm using a skill, but none of the skills that I was using say that I gain any energy. Not even my weapons say that I gain energy each and every time I use a skill. Please tell me why this is happening. 99.252.163.223 17:41, 28 December 2010 (UTC)

You're likely getting it from Leadership, and have it set to either 10 or 11. G R E E N E R 20:11, 28 December 2010 (UTC)

hacking

My account has recently been hacked by gold sellers, is there any possibility to get all my stuff back? --24.132.16.80 14:07, 30 December 2010 (UTC)

You could send an E-mail to A-net (through user support from WWW.Guildwars.COM) --Dragon7 cape emblem.pngThe Holy Dragons 14:12, 30 December 2010 (UTC)
Yes contact support. Also, if you paid any real-world money for the gold contact your bank and/or credit company regarding the fraudulent transaction. They will refund you the money you lost and then attempt to claim it back from the fraudulent company.- TheRave talk (talk) 15:09, 30 December 2010 (UTC)
However, there is no way to recover ingame items or characters unless you go out and get them again. Vald [Citation Needed] User Valdimir newsigicon.png 15:17, 30 December 2010 (UTC)
