Table colours
How come when I try and change the colour of the common skills at the table on the Resurrection page, Grey turns out to be green and {{Any-color}} turns out black? — ク Eloc 貢 19:38, 1 June 2008 (UTC)

expression error
topic: my template User:Y0 ich halt/Templates/AllTitles. have a look at this version: [1]. at the very top of the table it says "Expression error: Unrecognised punctuation character "{"". technically, it's clear what's wrong here, but looking at the code, there is no function between the heading and the "Survivor" part which has a { too much. and oddly, despite the error being there, everything seems to work fine. any ideas? - Y0_ich_halt 15:33, 5 June 2008 (UTC)
- The important part for that is
{{#ifexpr:{{var++|br5}}=3 | ... }}
.{{var++|br5}}
returns{{ #vardefine: br5 | {{#expr: {{#var:br5}}+1}} }}
so it results in{{#ifexpr:{{ #vardefine: br5 | {{#expr: {{#var:br5}}+1}} }}=3 | ... }}
and so there is an error. poke | talk 15:56, 5 June 2008 (UTC)- wow, thanks. how'd you find that little typo? (typo because i think copy-pasting the wrong codep art is typoing imo :P). i looked for it half an hour and couldn't find it. - Y0_ich_halt 16:05, 5 June 2008 (UTC)
syntax for bolding a page name
In the first sentence of each page, usually the page name is in bold either by
'''Page''' or [[Page]]
I have seen some users change the apostrophe syntax to the bracket syntax and some users changing it the other way. I was wondering if there was really some technical reason behind it and if I should be using one syntax over the other. Tedium 06:29, 6 June 2008 (UTC)
- the apostrophe syntax is probably better, there's less potential 4 a problem (eg, if the page was moved), but, in reality, it doesn't rly matter.--Sum Mesmer Guy contribs 06:43, 6 June 2008 (UTC)
- The bracket syntax is actually creating a link, but since it's a link back to the page you are on, it will appear bold. The apostrophe syntax is more proper.-- Wynthyst 06:54, 6 June 2008 (UTC)
Uploading pics
I dont really understand how to upload pictures. Im trying to put an edited screenshot onto my userpage. How do I do this? I get a message saying the file is corrupt or something. Nalana Darkling 18:28, 6 June 2008 (UTC)
- Reading over m:Help:Images would be of great use to you. It's a very concise guide on all aspects of images, from uploading to putting on a page. Also take a look at GWW:IMAGE. Calor 18:32, 6 June 2008 (UTC)
- I also think we might have a slight problem with our image database atm, people have reported problems with uploading images not too long ago. If you managed to upload a file but cannot show it on a page, it might help to just wait. If it says on the image page "corrupt file" or similar, tag it for deletion. A sysop will then delete it for you and make it possible to reupload a non-corrupt version. Hope that helps :) - anja 18:36, 6 June 2008 (UTC)

Wiki spam
SO, with all the spam recently I say we block anonymous edits. For example, we can have a default user called 'gwwuser' with some random password. An idea? File:User Horsedrowner avatar.jpg horsedrowner 19:09, 8 June 2008 (UTC)
- eh? Currently there is extreme less spam; and I don't like the idea to disallow good edits by anonymous users (GWW:AGF! :P) poke | talk 19:28, 8 June 2008 (UTC)
- The majority of the actual 'spam' comes from registered users, not anons, and I also agree that blocking anons is just bad practice on a wiki that is this well monitored. -- Wynthyst 19:31, 8 June 2008 (UTC)

- If a page is being repeatedly vandalized (vandalism is different than spam btw), a request for temporary protection can be made on the Admin Noticeboard. - (Edit conflict) We get very little spam, bots and vandalism in comparison to the constructive edits. The very nature of a wiki allows anyone to edit and assume good faith in doing so; if someone abuses that, they get blocked and reverted... which happens to spammers within a few minutes. -- Brains12 \ talk 20:02, 8 June 2008 (UTC)

- Yep, other wikis have done it. And on all that I've seen, they actually have very little content. It only works when the wiki content is relatively stable and mostly complete, not when there's still a lot of room to grow. When I spot a typo or a problematic sentence on those wikis, I can't help them fix it because they require me to login, and I don't want to bother creating an account on a wiki that I'm probably going to edit only that one time. -- ab.er.rant 01:27, 9 June 2008 (UTC)
(Reset indent) Even though I missed the majority of this and would also prefer not to disallow anons from editing the wiki there was one thing that I was wondering. What about only doing it for the guild section and if it's at all possible only for the original creation of the page, its just that there seem to have been quite a large number of guild articles that I've deleted lately that are more or less exactly like this guild page or even some with less info. Also considering you need an account to be able to upload images and guilds normally want to upload an image of their cape at the very least having guild article creation restricted to only registered users could help to cut this number down. I'm not really bothered either way I just thought I would bring it up since lately I've seen/deleted tons of guild articles with a single anon edit and then left until tagged as inactive. Although this always gives me something to do lol. --Kakarot 02:33, 9 June 2008 (UTC)
How to make userboxes add members to categories
I noticed that many userboxes add you to a category if you use the code on your userpage (e.g. Users who play 2 hours per day). I've created several of my own userboxes, and I was wondering how I can make it so using those boxes will add members to a category. -- TERO talk 15:19, 10 June 2008 (UTC)
- If you add the coding
<includeonly>[[Category:name]]</includeonly>
, it'll add the category inclusion, but it won't add the userbox template itself to the category. That way, any page using the userbox will be added to whatever category you choose, but the userbox page itself won't mess up the category. -- Jïörüjï Ðērākō.>.cнаt^ 15:24, 10 June 2008 (UTC)
Mass-posting counter
Checking recent updates, i just realized how simmilar some of our late vandals are in behavior to combo-posters on sites better to not be named. With that in mind, the question is: Is there any kind of protection that is implemented (or can be implemented) on the wiki for limiting the number of edits that can be done in a certain amount of time?. A limit of some kind (like edits every 15 seconds only for non-bots/admins) could prove to be helpful while not being a real problem for most common users.--Fighterdoken 18:06, 10 June 2008 (UTC)
- Actually, it might be a problem. There are a few users (some of whom are not admins, or were once not admins) who can make multiple page saves within the span of a second ;) -- ab.er.rant 02:58, 11 June 2008 (UTC)

Hey all, I got a question. I took User:Lensor/Character tables and modified it a little. Result: User:Horsedrowner/Characterbox. Could someone check the code for errors? It seems the background with the image always uses the Any icon, and the Description box doesn't have a border. File:User Horsedrowner avatar.jpg horsedrowner 14:04, 12 June 2008 (UTC)
- i don't think there's a code bug. use show preview; the preview will be prefectly correct. i've encountered this bug several times in the past two weeks, so maybe it has to do with the changes made to the wiki software, or it's a caching issue. - Y0_ich_halt 14:42, 12 June 2008 (UTC)

Heya, I somehow managed to turn off auto-redirecting. This means, if I click a link that is supposed to redirect me somewhere, I am not redirected but instead find myself in pages such as this one. Updating an image
I have a picture of my character wearing armor I wore in the past. Now I want to update the image with my current armor. I went into the file's page and tried to update the picture by clicking "Upload a new version of this file." I uploaded the new image and it asked me if I was sure I wanted to overwrite the current image with the new image - to do this you needed to click Save. I clicked Save, thinking my new image would take the place of the old image. Well the old image is still there. Under history of the page it shows my two attempts at uploading the new image because I can see different image sizes. The old image is still showing even though it says the new image is set as the current. The page in question is here BOTNGiggles 23:30, 17 June 2008 (UTC)
- The server's cache takes some time to update things like this, so you just need to wait a couple of minutes/hours. Meanwhile, you can check if the image was uploaded by comparing the values for dimensions and file size, since they will usually be different between the previous version and the new one.--Fighterdoken 23:33, 17 June 2008 (UTC)
Image Transparency Problems
Heya. I'm currently working on a table mockup at user:Star Weaver/sandbox#Table? and I'm running into a problem. I'll duplicate it here, too. These images draw with a black background (in IE6) when set to these sizes using a pipe in the image link: , Whereas when I use a different size (which is not the same different size for all images), I get either a white background . For a 'bullet' image use that's intended to be on a table with the standard white background, it looks horrible when it decides to use the black. Is there anything I can do about this? Thanks --Star Weaver 20:13, 18 June 2008 (UTC)
- Upgrade to a newer version of IE? Older versions of IE have always had trouble with multiple aspects of PNG images - it's an IE problem, not a problem with the images. (Aiiane - talk - contribs) 20:18, 18 June 2008 (UTC)

- This was discussed some time ago, and a workaround for IE6 that could be set serverside was found, but Poke dismissed it, and it ended there. I think there was also a way to adapt the fix to a user's account configuration file in the wiki (so it fixed it for you at least), but not really sure if it was on HELP:WIKI's archives, GWW:RFTA, or somewhere else.--Fighterdoken 21:18, 18 June 2008 (UTC)

Something with classes
- Can I have a table with multiple classes? For example, one with both "skill-box Warrior" and "expandable". Or "collapsible" on 2 different rows?
- Is there a class (or any other method) to remove links from something? If I have a template, but don't want the links to be active.
- Are there any other fun things to try out for me with wiki code? Recently found User:Y0_ich_halt/Guides/UPG :P

- You can simply put multiple CSS classes separated by a space into the class attribute. So
class="profession-bg Mesmer collapsible"
would create a expandable table with the Mesmer icon as a background (Using the profession-bg class instead of skill-box is btw. better if you are not interested in the other formattings of the skill infobox). For the collapsible tables, you can see examples on how to mix it inside of one table on this page. - To remove links, you'll have to remove the links from the template.. poke | talk 14:58, 22 June 2008 (UTC)

sorry to be a bother but im a very active player and would love to take part in the discussions on the wiki my question is how do i do so without editing the page? I'm just really affraid of deleting something and making the discussion page not work. you know, ruinig it for everyone else.--briar rosethorn
- Well, you just edited a page, and you didn't break anything :D Commenting is really easy, you can just click the edit button and add your comment then. And there is no need to be afraid, a lot people are always looking at the changes done here and check nearly every edit that is made, so even if you do something wrong, it will be fixed :)

I see u deleted those pages after all my hard work I understand why official wiki is the way it is now. where was the discussion about their Existence discussed at? What is the appeal process for deletion? How do I appeal this deletion.Azwildbill 18:01, 26 June 2008 (UTC)
- I would ask the sysop who deleted your pages why they were deleted. In my opinion, those pages were deleted because they were providing redundant information to the FFF page. --JonTheMon 22:06, 26 June 2008 (UTC)
What he is saying is that there in no appeal process that the editors and sysops can delete anything under the heading of redundant anytime they want. That they don't have to obey there own rules by making a personnel attack for the bating purposes. GWW:NPA --The preceding unsigned comment was added by User:Azwildbill (talk).

How do we address NPC professions?
By this, what I mean is... there are situations where we meet a NPC that may look like a certain profession due to wearing an armor set or carrying a weapon but we never know what skills that NPC uses since we never see him or her in action. For instance I was able to identify Kournan Engineer as an elementalist since I caught those NPCs casting Aura of Restoration upon themselves. But how do we know Royal Guard Bunda is a warrior? We never see him using any skills. There has been situations where a NPC appear to be one profession but uses skills from other professions such as Vael. So how are we to treat those NPCs? I see those all over the wiki labelled as that or this profession yet we don't know what skills they use. Do we use their armor and/or weapons as a clue or follow more purist path and label them as having no profession until we are able to determine what skills they use? Way back when EoTN came out I was in a minor revert war over certain NPCs and their professions so I'd like to avoid similar situations in future. – Barinthus 10:21, 30 June 2008 (UTC)
- Either by their profession as displayed before their level (which happens sometimes) or by their skill usage (the Royal is maybe fighting later in the mission?). Otherwise it is just unknown. poke | talk 11:25, 30 June 2008 (UTC)
- Ah yes I forgot about their name bars - will have to keep in mind to check those. As for the Royal, there's no skill listed on his wiki page so I have to assume he doesn't fight. But for now my approach is to leave things be until I absolutely know for sure the information is inaccurate. – Barinthus 15:46, 30 June 2008 (UTC)
- NPCs cannot use armor sets in the first place. They have their own models, set at a per creature level. Those models may look similar to an armor set, but are unrelated.
- As for identifying profs, tomes are good. There is also a skill that allows you to find out the elite of allies. We should have a project around that one, but I'm too lazy myself. Backsword 09:31, 2 July 2008 (UTC)
- Exactly re: armor - that's why I question how editors identify professions of NPCs when they do not use skills at all. And can you please clarify how using tomes help me to figure out a NPC's profession? And elite skills? Thanks – Barinthus 14:27, 2 July 2008 (UTC)
- If they appear as an ally (possibly even as a targetable green?) in any combat area, use Arcane Mimicry on them, which will do for anyone who isn't a form-using dervish. --Star Weaver 15:34, 2 July 2008 (UTC)

Skills as animated gifs
(Not exactly a wiki question, but it's related to the wiki, so...) professions
is there a place where i can sea the ratings of each profession? does the wiki have some suggestions on finding the balanced combination? --The preceding unsigned comment was added by User:66.91.101.245 (talk).
- Articles about each profession often have a small summary and comparisons for secondaries with the choosen profession as primary, and there are some articles about builds that can be helpful, but besides of that i don't think you will find what you are looking for, since there is not "best" or "most balanced" option. Common advice is to just "play what you want" or "play them all until you find one you like" (for this, the Battle Isles is a good test location).--Fighterdoken 08:55, 2 July 2008 (UTC)
Skill table for user pages
How can I make {{skill table}} work for {{user skill infobox}}? File:User Horsedrowner avatar.jpg horsedrowner 09:23, 2 July 2008 (UTC)

- Then what about the categories? Should I set campaign to user then or something? File:User Horsedrowner avatar.jpg horsedrowner 09:31, 2 July 2008 (UTC)

Once in a while I will come across a page (ie NPC or interactive object) and its image is missing and needs to be uploaded. Thanks. – Barinthus 17:32, 3 July 2008 (UTC)

Recent Changes Tweaks?
Hey ... Is there any way to get Recent Changes to wrap long lines better? I'm currently using the enchanted javascript version, and the wrapped long lines caused by new page head dumps or even some of my own longer change comments are really, really ugly and distracting. If there was a way to get them to indent an inch or two that would be wonderful ... Heck, I'd rather have a horizontal scrollbar myself.
Also, while I'm at it, is there any way to make the javscript version start with all the changes expanded by default? I love the grouping of changes but I usually want to see all them anyway. --Star Weaver 20:25, 8 July 2008 (UTC)
- O_o ok, well, I did some CSS overrides testing at home since I have firefox/webdev and stuff there, and I'm not sure that there's a way to actually identifty the bits and change their properties with the html as stands, as essentially it's a giant DIV that contains a lot of lines with BRs, rather than using a seperate DIV or P for each line. Also, images and nbsps in fixed width used for spacing ... There dosn't happen to be a way I can do a user-override on the HTML generator like I can for the CSS and JS, is there? :D --Star Weaver 14:57, 9 July 2008 (UTC)
- You could rework the whole thing with Javascript after it has loaded, but if that is even useful just to indent the text, I don't think so ;) poke | talk 15:35, 9 July 2008 (UTC)
- Oog. I tend to be good enough with code to tweak stuff I see regardless of the language, at least a little (like changing the structure of output html), and I could probably do that in python, but learning enough javascript to reformat text in transit? *head esplody time* :D. --Star Weaver 15:41, 9 July 2008 (UTC)
- Tho with CSS overrides I could just set the width of the containing div to 1500px or something and see if I can deal with the srollies. --Star Weaver 15:42, 9 July 2008 (UTC)

Question re: website promotion?
Heya, I have a question relating to website promotion on Wiki. Myself and quite a few others are due to launch Guild Wars Auctions this weekend to the global community. The site has had a 'soft launch' within our alliance over the past month, and it's been going really well. The Customer Support Team at NCSoft took a look at the site at our request, and were kind enough to wish us the best of luck...so we're ready to take the plunge and bring it to the community. I have a feeling that it might not be considered appropriate to promote a website, even a non commercial one, on wiki so I thought I should ask if there is an appropriate way to bring this to people's attention. I haven't included the website address in this question because I feel it would at odds with the underlying query. If you could let me know your thoughts I'd apprecite it :) --Bunny - Angel talk 13:05, 10 July 2008 (UTC)
- See Fansite, List of fansites which seems to be kinda wimpy at the moment; Auction lists 3 auction sites already. GWW:FANSITES is the policy page,
though clearly Auction isn't following it becuase of common sense :)though that seems to be about articles for specific fansites. Also, you can link to almost whatever on your userpage, or do soemthing like {{userbox|icon=SELL|info=This user works on auction site [http://whatever.foo name name].}} --Star Weaver 13:15, 10 July 2008 (UTC)- Thank you, I have included the site in the list of Auction sites and the list of fansites, however according to the rules I see on GWW:FANSITES I believe it is saying that the website doesn't deserve it's own article until it has received recognition. Guild Page
I was wondering if you could explain how i create a wiki page for my guild, i researched it but am still not completely understanding how its done.--The preceding unsigned comment was added by User:DragonLordIIII (talk).
- The easiest way to start, is to go into the game, press F10, and then click on the link that has your guild's name on it. A window will open on your browser with the exact page where you have to create the guild article, and a small template will show up where you can fill in some information about your guild. After that, you can expand it like any other article by following our guild pages policy and formatting guideline for guild pages.--Fighterdoken 05:18, 12 July 2008 (UTC)
- Actually, the in game link will open up the 'create a guild page' page. You need to put in your guild name exactly as it appears in game including capitalization. Then as Fighterdoken says, just fill in the information in the template. Please be sure to read over the guild page policy so you know what should and shouldn't be on your guild page.-- Wynthyst 05:29, 12 July 2008 (UTC)

If you do have a specific reason, ask a sysop on their user page; we can remove specific revisions if there's a demonstrated need. (Aiiane - talk - contribs) 15:25, 24 July 2008 (UTC)

- If you included an e-mail address when you registered you should be able to go to the Log in / create account page, type in your username and then click the E-mail password button. --Kakarot 01:39, 26 July 2008 (UTC)
class attribute
What is the class= attribute that I see on various pages? Is this a reference to a specific PHP? Is there a way to see all the available filler values for "class="? Same goed for "syle=" and any other attributes. Tsafran 04:11, 26 July 2008 (UTC)
- They are both relating to Cascading Style Sheets. It's not really anything to do with PHP or the wikicode, it's more related to HTML. There's a Tutorial at w3schools that's a good starting point. :) Biscuits 11:17, 26 July 2008 (UTC)

- Cool guide Y0, I didn't you know you'd written that. So I guess the answer to his questions is yes: MediaWiki:Common.css. Biscuits 18:24, 26 July 2008 (UTC)

Discussions in skill/classes/new event articles
Lately, discussing personal views about different skills, classes, or events (such as in-game activities, updates, etc) has become a common practice in articles on the wiki. Since most of these discussions often fill the talk pages with "active" threads (making them "useless" in the practice for discussing the documentation itself), i am curious about if there would be any problem in actively moving topics from these talk pages to more appropiate sections such as the Anet: namespace, when such topics were more of the "feedback" kind than about the documentation of what is being discussed. --Fighterdoken 06:31, 27 July 2008 (UTC)
- That's what the {{moved}} template was made for. Backsword 17:05, 30 July 2008 (UTC)
- That doesn't answer if it's appropriate or not. I personally think such discussions should stay, since it's the most visible page for people to visit when they have a topic to discuss. Only very few of our talk pages actually grow so large it can become a hindrance to discussion about the formatting/documentation. But, of course we can always put a link at the top of the talk page to the appropriate feedback page in the Anet namespace, to make it more visible. - anja 17:18, 30 July 2008 (UTC)
Collapsable Info boxes
Does anyone know the code to make show/hide boxes? Like this example? I tried using templates found on Wikipedia, but it seems GWW doesn't use them...— K A Y C H 22:57, 29 July 2008 (UTC)
- Add class="expandable". Here is an example-- Wyn 23:02, 29 July 2008 (UTC)

Delete incorrect page
I have accidentally made a page with the wrong heading for my guild. The wrong page has a full stop at the end of the url as in
http://wiki.guildwars.com/wiki/Guild:Guildname.
instead of
http://wiki.guildwars.com/wiki/Guild:Guildname
How do I remove the faulty page? --The preceding unsigned comment was added by User:PharonStrom (talk).
