Trivia

[1] I don't see this anymore. I tihnk you archived but forgot to answer or re-add my question or... something.- VanguardUser-VanguardAvatar.PNG 19:57, 1 March 2008 (UTC)

I cannot find that comment in the history. I didn't remove it on purpose, that's for sure, and I can't see record that I moved it at all. So it "poofed!" without explanation, as far as I can see. Now, sometimes I archive and have to rollback because of, oh, editing conflicts or the fact that I get interrupted and forget to place the cached topic into the archive. (It's a bit embarrassing to rollback myself, but after all, we're all friends here. :) ) However, I don't see that happening there, so I'm afraid I don't readily see what happened. If I erred, I sure do apologize!
In answer to the question, yes, I've played all campaigns to their conclusion, some more than once. I have one girl I've played through all, and then I like to take a "native" of the campaign through, as well. Time constraints being what they are, I've never been able to take one of each profession through all four campaigns. Maybe it's because I don't accept runs, play every quest, mission, and bonus, and just can't seem to take the shortcuts. :) -- Gaile User gaile 2.png 20:17, 1 March 2008 (UTC)
Just so you know Vanguard, you don't need to use 2 [[ ]]'s for http links. Just one works. — Eloc 23:15, 1 March 2008 (UTC)
Eloc: w/e? Gaile: That answers my question. I just wanted to know if you played them all at least once. And You caught my question during an archive, although I can't find the history thing now. It's all good.- VanguardUser-VanguardAvatar.PNG

Advice

Hi there Gaile, I was wondering if you had any advice for new or current players that might come in handy in game. I fyou do could u post it here? User:Shadowphoenix/Advice. Thanks --Shadowphoenix User-Shadowphoenix Shadow Phoenix Signet.jpg 18:48, 5 March 2008 (UTC)

I know im not gaile, but if you go into RA 1, bring a res sig it will help, if only to appease those more "agressive" people, and 2, dont worry about people when making builds, put together what you think will work and what will be fun. after all your playing it for you and not them, and for PvE... Just go have a go, theres nothing you can do wrong, if you die you die, if your new i doubt you'll be going for Survivor and if your not new, chances are you've already died. so win win. And thats about enough ranting for me. Goodbye 124.184.86.163 07:06, 6 March 2008 (UTC)
Another advice would be to carefully read what skills do and try to join groups of real players to learn from them. Learning how skills work and how you can combine certain skills to create powerfull effects is the road to victory in guildwars. SniperFox 12:20, 6 March 2008 (UTC)
This is a project I will try to contribute to when I have some time. :) -- Gaile User gaile 2.png 18:29, 22 March 2008 (UTC)

Timeframe Now until GW2

Hiya gaile i have a question with the original GW still running and GW2 comming up around 2009 (to be optimistic). How are you planning to entertain us it a long way till halfway 2009. To be honest i had like 3 weeks of fun in GW:EN, when it came out beat it in 13 hours. Do you expect us to grind als those fancy titles(My Guild Hall Smells of Rich Mahogany or God Walking Amongst Mere Mortals) till then course that becomes old IMO, i have the title i care about maxed 10 of the 17 i want, and the other 7 real high. I hope we get something new course people are gonna walk away sometime. And also not every GW1 player is gonna buy GW2. Last time i read previews im not buying sorry. How are you planning to keep us interested in GW1 till GW 2 and years to come. Cult Mephisto

If you are saying up front you will not buy GW2 unless they work considerably more on it, why should ANet put any money into GW1 (which you already bought and are simply producing server expenses playing) instead of GW2 (which will earn them money if good enough). People keep forgetting that Anet is a company that needs to make money and not the salvation army. --Xeeron 13:35, 6 March 2008 (UTC)
I'm probably gonna walk away, but as soon as GW2 comes back I'll get that. My interest in GW1 won't affect my interest in GW2 And I don't see a reason why it should....Games get boring, thats the fact of it. Specially if you play them too much. I think the only thing GW1 needs to wry bout now is armor bug fixes, skill balances, and any festivals that normally happen. Other then that its good as is.edit.... Also we have some shiney new weapons coming our way later this week. Have fun hunting for them.Ajc2123

el your are right im not gonna buy GW2 last impression i got isn't good IMO. But im not saying that they should hurry up if it comes to the selves tomorrow im still not buying. I'm saying that they also should do more about GW1. What are they expecting that we play what we have now for the next year or year and a half. Cult Mephisto The concept and stuff i read about GW2 just doesn't suit me to keep it short i don't think GW2 is my game and GW1 is.Cult Mephisto

This actually somewhat worries me, too. Seems like they built up a lot of fanbase and momentum with GW1 and to just basically 'shelf' GW1 for OVER A YEAR just because they're working on the sequal, imo, is a bad idea. This will result is players getting bored, wandering off, and overall a loss of enthusiam and momentum, which if they want GW2 to be more successful than GW1, they will have to re-build all over again. Just bad business sense, imo. — ( ɔ \ ʇ ) uɐɥʇıǝɹ Reithan Sig.jpg 15:29, 6 March 2008 (UTC)

Sounds like the same boat I am in. I love GW, and I am looking foward to GW2, but right now, I am playing other games, There really isn't anything more for me to do, I do beleive I have just about run out of content. Med Luvin 15:36, 6 March 2008 (UTC)

Cult, you say "im not gonna buy GW2 last impression i got isn't good IMO", but how can you say that something that isn't released and is still being developed is not good? You havn't played or seen anyone else playing GW2 yet so you have no reasoning to say it's not good. FirstSunspear 17:11, 6 March 2008 (UTC)

well firstspear let me explain i read previews and try to keep up with the latest developments as far what Anet release about GW2 i just don't like the it ATM. it a personal thing i like to spent my money well and i just don't have faith in GW2 i just dislike many thing they have said so far. I realy hope that it would chance but as far as i have read im not buying. call it my loss but i do not care. But as Reithan says i agree they just shelf GW1 and people will wonderoff some will come back some will not. But i realy hope they make some new content course i'm at a point i have done it there nothing new to the game Gw1 is a good game and they just leave it there with no new stuff for the next year or year and a half. Cult Mephisto

This question of the inbetween time has been asked by myself and others before, and as far as we've been told there is nothing between now and Guild Wars 2, no new content (bar silly little weapon skins and festivals), nothing to really keep us playing unless Anet is giving little stuff to the purely addicted players. This is a good or a bad, Anet already has your money so its not really missing out on anything if you go to other games, actually it'll probably benefit them as their servers won't be so stressed. The negative is how the community reacts to this inbetween time, if they take it with a grain of salt and still come back when Guild Wars 2 comes out Anet still hasn't lost anything as you come back for it and buy their new game, however, if players feel like they've been rear-ended by Anet in this time (nothing new or excited added) and don't come back that's bad for Anet, as thats a consumer gone bye-bye. As I've said before returning customers is what every business prefers.
Sits and waits for Gaile's usual "We're working on Guild Wars 2 and thats our priority" post House Of Furyan 18:12, 6 March 2008 (UTC)
There will propably be some kind of promotional material and updates along the way as it gets closer to the release date. So far we have gotten the bonus mission pack and there are still design-a-weapon contest weapons to be released. A year is not really that long a time and Anet must have some surprise cards up their sleeve, they always do. Even though you have played through a campaign there are still tons of quests to be done and title grinding isn't the only thing there is. Playing with friends is always a great way to spend the time. - User Nian Sig.png nian 18:38, 6 March 2008 (UTC)
I think you guys are gonna eat your words anyway when GW2 hits the shelves. If you ever enjoyed GW1 I'm sure you'll be there to buy GW2 just as much as anybody else. There's a difference between what users say they're gonna do and what they actually do. :P - User Nian Sig.png nian 18:52, 6 March 2008 (UTC)
The question is not IF people will leave due to no new content for OVER A YEAR it's "How Many"? I think the answer is "Enough to warrant at least ONE new expansion or campaign", just to keep people excited about the GW franchise, so that when GW2 rolls out, people still snap it up as the next addition to something they're already doing. Otherwise, you're gonna get a lot of people going, "Guild Wars? Yeah...I USED TO play that."( ɔ \ ʇ ) uɐɥʇıǝɹ Reithan Sig.jpg 19:08, 6 March 2008 (UTC)

I should think the company has some more solid statistics on active players, player behaviour and whatnot. Factions was released a year after Prophecies. No, I don't see too much to worry about for a year of developement. In fact, I'm eagerly awaiting for the new game and even if the current game goes on hiatus for me too due to playing too much or being too busy to play I will be right back there when GW2 comes out because I already know how good GW1 is. People feel time very differently but for me a year is a very short time that will have flown by before I even realize it. - User Nian Sig.png nian 19:44, 6 March 2008 (UTC)

I am anticipating GW2 which I will be playing, but for the time being, I think GW is getting the back burnner till GW2's release or any other major GW surprises. All I have left is grinding, and 4 missions, I have done everything else. I would love more content, but I doubt we will see any. Anticipating GW2 209.200.197.11 20:46, 6 March 2008 (UTC)

It's like the most popular gaming names right after they release a game, take for example the Final Fantasy (I love FF :P) series. It takes them 3 to 5 years to release the newer games, but do you see people complaining that they don't have much to do in between? Why yes of course, hence the plethora of mini-games (GW:EotN introduced mini-games as well!) but the point is that GW is much like the FF series or even Halo in the sense that after we finish enjoying the game, there's nothing for us to do but to wait, stop playing GW, play other games and if we like what we see in GW2 when they have anything official to release, play the new game. I'm sure they don't mind people leaving the game since there will always be leavers, new players, as well as die-hard fans. Renin 06:26, 7 March 2008 (UTC)
Actually you'll find that, even though it takes several years to produce the games the Final Fantasy teams manage to pop one out roughly every year, year and a half (on average), and they've also responded to player demand and produced a back-history movie into Cloud, and they've also produced two full cg movies as well, as well as conversations to other systems and titles for them. Halo is also considered different as their multi-player online system is much different and the standard setup allows for modding as well, which also prolongs game play in the in-between times as players are introduced to unique content when the developers are doing something else. GW2 Beta

I understand that you, or any other ArenaNet employee, cannot tell us exactly when that Guild Wars 2 beta test sign-up will be. But, could you tell us where the information will be found and where we can sign-up when that time rolls around, please? Ranger-icon-small.pngBlackie ewilson92 21:06, 9 March 2008 (UTC)

That information is simply not planned yet. But as Gaile says, we will be the first to now as soon as its known. 68.151.27.108 22:14, 9 March 2008 (UTC)
There is no beta test information. When it is available we will make it known via many means. Thanks for bringing this up, though, because it reminded me to expand my page-top alerts so that others will know this fact, too. -- Gaile User gaile 2.png 22:38, 9 March 2008 (UTC)

Stupid stupid stupid

You were sayed that you sometimes play with players with Gaile in there name. Without knowing that you are a dev. Stupid Stupid Stupid... Now everyone will make characters with Gaile in his/her name. XD Death Slighertalk: Death Sligher 19:45, 13 March 2008 (UTC)

No, no one can make a character name with "Gaile" in it. So I think we're ok. And mostly, when I play with players, I use names that are not known and are not related to my real-world name. :) -- Gaile User gaile 2.png 19:59, 13 March 2008 (UTC)
Isn't that pushing the name limitations too far? I understand we do not need/want players impersonating Gaile, but at the same time our beloved is not the only person in the world named Gaile. Nbajammer User Nbajammer sig.png 20:05, 13 March 2008 (UTC)
It's a decision the dev team made, because there were issues with players being harmed by impersonators. And, to the point, I have never, in my entire (lengthy ;) ) life, met someone names Gaile. Gail, Gayle, Gale, Gael, yes. Gaile, no. I think the spelling is close to unique, and I'm not sure that the incredibly remote possibility that someone may have the same spelling is worth risking any level of possible harm to players. It's just one of those decisions that isn't entirely without alternate considerations, but is made after considering what is the best option, amongst more than one. Thanks for understanding. -- Gaile User gaile 2.png 20:11, 13 March 2008 (UTC)
(This is not aimed at you Gaile, but a general sense) Under that philosophy I could demand any character with my RL first name be subjected to a name change because it could be an impersonation of me. But I know that's not going to happen. And even though you might not have met anyone else with their name spelled Gaile, doesn't mean they don't exist. The dev team by their own policy should give every player with a real-sounding name a time-out to rename their characters because they could be potentially harmful would-be impersonaters. Example: Let's suppose I have an acquaintence named Joe. And let's also assume that I hate him. And let's also assume Joe plays Guild Wars. By the dev team's reasoning, anyone with a character named Joe potentially impersonates this guy. I think the bar is a little too high with this. Honestly, I do. To whom might I suggest improvements? Nbajammer User Nbajammer sig.png 16:42, 14 March 2008 (UTC)
I can understand your problems with this, but honestly, someone impersonating an ArenaNet member (especially one such well-known with the players as Gaile is) is more serious than someone impersonating an average joe. Yes, it could still be impersonating someone, but could that person "trick" other players into thinking they have the power to ban other players, give "information" about upcoming events or issues, or warn other players about things? In my opinion, using the same name as an ArenaNet member has potentially more problems than for the average player. --User Brains12 Spiral.png Brains12 \ Talk 16:51, 14 March 2008 (UTC)
There's a difference between names like "Gail Grey", "Gale Gray" and "Gaile Stormbringer". The latter is clearly not an impersonation of Gaile or any form of "trick" character. And if I wanted to truly "trick" someone, I could pick any name I wanted and say that I work for ANet blah blah blah. The average ordinary player wouldn't know better. Nbajammer User Nbajammer sig.png 17:08, 14 March 2008 (UTC)
And is there an easier way to regulate how the name (Gaile, as in your example) is used, instead of disallowing it from the beginning? --User Brains12 Spiral.png Brains12 \ Talk 17:12, 14 March 2008 (UTC)
Utilize the /report function for inappropriate name for cases where it is an obvious and blatant impersonation of Gaile. Simply having the name Gaile does not make it an impersonation by default. It's the principle of do it for everyone (in this case, every real life name) or for no one. Nbajammer User Nbajammer sig.png 18:44, 14 March 2008 (UTC)

Mmm know I'm arouse curiosity(srr if I spelled wrong), have you ever played with me? without I knew that it was you ^^ ??? Death Slighertalk: Death Sligher 20:15, 13 March 2008 (UTC)

Hello thar Gaile! I just saw (and immediately used) the new Grenth wallpaper (: It's been done in the same style as the Eve one, and the style's also used on some of the t-shirts. I love it! (Reset indent) As noble as this sounds, and as worthy a cause as it might be, I think it would be impossible for ArenaNet to participate on a company basis. After all, shutting down all our servers would be extremely disruptive, and we do have servers in multiple locations, so the issue of global synchronization would be difficult, too. I will be happy to ask about this, of course. -- Gaile User gaile 2.png 00:03, 17 March 2008 (UTC)

Np Gaile as you simply misread. Earth Hour 08 is set to shut off non-needed lights. Thats all plain and simple. At least you didn't think my message was a "spam filter error". Dominator-Matrix 03:02, 17 March 2008 (UTC)

Good idea but if everyone would do it, power houses will produce to much energie, and then there can be electricitie shut downs for hours. So I dont think it would be very good if every would do it. But the idea is fine, but we can better don't use much electricitie in general. So buy a green PC instead. Death Slighertalk: Death Sligher 12:27, 17 March 2008 (UTC)

As stated above Earth Hour is only about switching off none essential electric lights. Everything else can stay on, such as servers and computers etc... the hour is just about doing something as small as turning off none-needed lights and seeing how big an impact it makes. From my research it would seem that San Francisco is one of the Cities that has volunteered to take part in this, so anet wouldn't be alone for that hour in turning off its lights, as you are based in San Fran aren't you? -- Salome User salome sig.png 15:48, 18 March 2008 (UTC)

Arenanet Artists

Dear Gaile, could you please pass on my deepest respect for the eight ArenaNet artists whose works were selected for publication in Spectrum 15 and especially to Daniel Dociu for winning both the Gold and Silver award in the category for concept artist? I must agree with this awesome result as he is a great and talented artist! Respect --User Tribina base.png (Tribina / talk) 12:57, 20 March 2008 (UTC)

Account Sharing with brothers/sisters

Trib told me to post it here. A guy applied to join our guild and he shares his account with his brothers. My guild leader thinks it's against the Terms of Use (which says only 1 person can play on an account). I was just wondering if it's allowed to share with brothers or sisters? Elder 21:01, 28 March 2008 (UTC)

Hi. Yes, it's true, sharing accounts is disallowed by the User Agreement. And believe me, sharing is not a good thing. A large number of support issues arise on a regular basis that are the result of shared accounts, ranging from someone changing the password and not allowing the other player(s) to access the account to selling off items or gold without the player's permission to actually selling the account right out from under the other player(s) using it. (Of course, selling use accounts is also disallowed, so that's a double negative there.) There is nothing that our support team can do about these issues, of course, when access is given to multiple players.
I think it is a wise guild that asks its members to observe the User Agreement. I also think that such a requirement will cut down on "guild drama," if any of the unfortunate situations I mentioned become a reality for a member. Thanks for asking! -- Gaile User gaile 2.png 21:08, 28 March 2008 (UTC)
But of course, if your sister changes the password of your account, and sells it over e-bay, i think you will have worse troubles to worry than just "losing your account because of sharing it" XD. That policy looks just as a mean to avoid all the "my little brother did it, so un-ban me" calls that rise from time on time.--Fighterdoken 21:12, 28 March 2008 (UTC)
Thanks for the quick answer Gaile. Greetings from Mu Tants!Elder 21:14, 28 March 2008 (UTC)

Just out of interest, would it be against the rules if, for instance, you had a friend at your house and you decided to let him play GW on your account? Or would it only be allowed if you were there watching? Or would it be allowed at all? Thanks, and sorry for asking another question about this. - User FirstSunspear icon.png FirstSunspear /// Talk 10:02, 31 March 2008 (UTC)
I don't think that being present is a solid guarantee that you can let someone use the account, but it does seem less risky than letting someone access the account from another location. In either case, if your step away to get a tasty beverage and your friend sells your best weapon or lets your Survivor character die, Support isn't going to be able to help. I do understand the question, though, because having someone play for a bit is a great way to get them enthusiastic about the game! (I sure hope we can find a way to offer demos without risking a bot invasion!) -- Gaile User gaile 2.png 04:08, 4 April 2008 (UTC)
Ok thanks very much, I understand fully that support wouldn't be able to help if something happened such as a friend killing your survivor, but it was more of the letting your friend test out gw for a few mins whilst you watch kind of thing. - User FirstSunspear icon.png FirstSunspear /// Talk 23:18, 4 April 2008 (UTC)

ToS violation? part 2

What about if someone gives you their account? Is that against the EULA? -elviondale (tahlk) 12:25, 30 March 2008 (UTC)

That isn't allowed either I think. Quote UA: You may not (a) sublicense, rent, lease, loan or otherwise transfer the Software or the Service (or any part thereof) and Only one person may use an Account. These two quotes clearly indicate the account should only be used by the original owner I think. The 'only one person may use an account' doesn't specify 'at the same period', so it covers the entire lifetime of an account. This is just my perspective of the UA, but I have a strong feeling I'm right =) --User Tribina base.png (Tribina / talk) 13:53, 30 March 2008 (UTC)
I have to agree with Trib on this one. Besides, if someone gave you an account, then changed their mind and wanted it back, since they'd have all the proof it was theirs (receipts, product keys, boxes, etc.) then support would have no choice but to give the account back to the rightful owner. This is one of the main reasons why selling accounts is against the EULA, to keep this type of problem away.--Pyron Sy 14:49, 30 March 2008 (UTC)

(Reset indent) First, forgive me for reformatting this as a subcategory to the topic of account sharing immediately above, but it seems an appropriate way to link the continued discussion. Tribina and Pyron Sy are precisely right, and have much of the correct logic in their arguments. Shared accounts are perhaps the biggest call for Support assistance, as I have said before. That's why we frequently warn players to not buy accounts. (I think such a message is on the log-in screen now.) For this reason, and of course for other practical reasons as well, account giving, sharing, trading, or selling is simply not allowed. -- Gaile User gaile 2.png 21:31, 30 March 2008 (UTC)

Hmm.. I don't necessarily agree with the blanket disallowing of account transferring. I see the reasoning behind it and know that its half a revenue thing and half avoiding the support that might by implied by allowing it- I just think if a player is leaving the game and bequeaths his account to someone else as a mule account, anet should perhaps reconsider its (their?) stance on categorically disallowing that transfer. -elviondale (tahlk) 02:42, 31 March 2008 (UTC)
Well hey now, what if my friend's quitting GW, and instead of just letting his money rot, he gives it to me? Surely there's no hurt in that? Vael Victus 06:02, 31 March 2008 (UTC)
Well, technically his money's not rotting, its already dead and gone. It does seem like a waste but you can't have it. 118.92.12.97 07:57, 31 March 2008 (UTC)

Not really if you give someone your gold (and if it is much) it will be seen as gold selling, this is against the EULA. And giving someone your account is against the EULA too. Death Slighertalk: Death Sligher 19:27, 31 March 2008 (UTC)

Another question, suggest there's an event you've been part of the whole weekend but the very moment there are masks released, you can't be there because you need to go somewhere or I don't know, you just can't be online. And there's someone you can trust and that person is willing to get the masks for you on your account. Is it still punishable to let that person on you account from time to time to get event-stuff? Theoreticly, that's 2 players on 1 account...Spirit Of The Linx 14:44, 1 April 2008 (UTC)

I don't know but I went on holidays with a event, so i just logged in on a internetcafe^^ for the mask. Death Slighertalk: Death Sligher 16:53, 1 April 2008 (UTC)
Errrr..... not to ask a dumb question, but how would anet even know you were account sharing unless directly informed by a party involved? A growing trend?

So you're leaving your position for a new position in Arenanet, and now so is Andrew Patrick... both the PvP Community Co-ordinator and the Community Relations Manager (someone who's seen more in PvE than PvP) leaving for new posts. So, does this mean Izzy's going to change soon too (please say yes)? With probably the two most known Arenanet employees moving positions it makes you wonder whats going on over there... is it good or bad?? 118.92.12.97 00:39, 3 April 2008 (UTC)

It seems a little mismanaged, not an uncommon thing, and a simply note in the announcement on the login screen could have cleared it up. So many of my guildies and alliance members were under the impression you were leaving Arenanet, as well as people in random outposts, the Bon Voyage event seems to lessen when I explained you are simply leaving one position for another, community to support. Perhaps next time in such situations it can be stated to the community who don't use GW.com or wiki that much that its not that an employee is leaving Arenanet - seemingly the common misconception - but leaving one position for another.  :) 118.92.12.97 20:32, 5 April 2008 (UTC)

Howdy :-) I know you're super busy right now, but I wanted to say thanks as always for the great work you do. Few MMO communities are as privileged as ours to have such a dedicated and effective GM!

Are you still coming to PAX this year? Last year was such a wonderful time with you and the rest of the team, I'd hate to think you won't be there to lend your touch to trivia, the Party, and other such fun festivities! Guilds *Sigh*

I've made my 11th guild under yet another illusion that it may just be successful and yet again another 2 member failiure. I've asked all kinds of guys I know and (shamefully) pestered some of the [vD] guys I see in RA about it. Before I give up on leadership altogether I have come the the last shrine of Guild Wars related knowledge, Gaile. Can you or your trusted followers give me some tips on success for a guild?

it's hard and takes constant work and dedication. IMHO your best bet is to make a few real friend in game and from there build on that. A guild founded on friendship has a vastly better chance of working than one founded on random invites. -- Salome User salome sig.png 02:03, 7 April 2008 (UTC)
I'm going to give you a few tips I noticed myself in the past + 5 years I'm a guild leader (3 of them in GW). First you got to get a few friends ingame like salome says. Make sure you're on the same gaming level, about 5 active friends should make you get a nice start of the guild. Make sure you're online a lot to entertain them. Communication is a very important part of a guild leader. Make sure you know what you're talking about, stay updated on the newest news on GW. A lot of members appreciate a good dose of humor, but at times you gotta be hard and talk to a member about his/her attitude. Don't do this in G-chat, always take it on whisper. Plan guild stuff like dungeons, missions etc on a forum or calendar, so people know what to expect and when to expect it. This way they can check while they can't be online either (school or work). Involve members into some decisions that have to be made for the guild, like guild guidelines, recruitment policy, activities, make sure they feel involved and listened to. If you're all from the same continent, country or region, you might want to meet each other in real life, this is fun and will increase the level of friendship. Hope these few tips help you out ;-) --User Tribina base.png (Tribina / talk) 03:40, 7 April 2008 (UTC)
These are great comments from Salome and Tribina. I will ponder on this and see if I can add any more. -- Gaile User gaile 2.png 07:29, 7 April 2008 (UTC)
I thought of a few ideas, too. Most guilds start out small. Maybe you're starting the game without knowing anyone. My first thought would be that although some people think that in-game chat is just so much noise, I'd suggest hopping around to towns or outposts to see if there's a friendly conversation to join. Maybe you have a real-life friend who plays; that's always a plus. So say you (or your and your friend) party up with a couple of players, run through a few missions or quests, and find you really enjoy playing with them. Add them to your Friends List, catch up with them when they're online to see if they're looking for another run, and after a while it's a natural to form a guild. And meeting the common goals of building up the Guild Hall is a great "bonding" experience.
When starting a guild, it may be easier to choose people who are interested in doing pretty much what you like best in the game, be it going for a certain title, taking on every quest and mission from Pre-Searing to the end of GW:EN, etc. Larger guilds are great because they have a diversity of goals, but I feel that start-up guilds are best when the people are on the same wavelength, that is, even if it's just a few people, they're most likely to want to do what you're doing, which makes for more companionship.
Lastly, consider joining a fun guild rather than starting one. I know that being the guild leader may have an appeal. But being a guild member is cool, too, and maybe leadership will happen eventually, either within the existing guild, or by forming another guild within the alliance. (For example, some alliances have divisions for PvE, PvP, achieving some of the more time-consuming titles, like Explorer or LDoA, and so forth.)
I hope this is helpful, and wish you well in the future! -- Gaile User gaile 2.png 03:01, 9 April 2008 (UTC)
I concur with all of the suggestions already given. I have been a guild/alliance leader for a year now, and it's not as easy as just spending some gold for a hall, and inviting a bunch of people. It truly does take dedication, and lots and lots of in game time. Make sure you determine the rules of the guild, and be prepared to enforce them. Having a foundation of friends as officers is a must imo. Being prepared to do missions and quests over and over and over as people need help is a must. Being prepared to mediate disputes in a fair an impartial manner is a must. Spam recruitment is almost a certain way to fail, especially when you are just starting. Go out and play the game... talk to people, get to know them a bit. Filling your guild with people who you enjoy playing with, and talking to is one step toward success. Good luck in your endeavors!--Go to Wynthyst's Talk page Wynthyst 03:14, 9 April 2008 (UTC)

Wreath Crown

Gaile,

I recently came across a person in the Temple of the Ages trying to sell a Wreath Crown that was apparently customixzed for you. I looked at it and it was the real thing - "Customized for Gaile Gray." I don't remember his name, but I just though you should know. 24.60.150.125 17:21, 14 April 2008 (UTC)

Well I'm trying to be as honest as possible here and say that for the first 5 mins of ownership I did sort of try to sell Gaile's Wreath crown. So as with many other items of sentimental value only (my first Z chest drop and starter wand), it has sort of settled into my inventory permenantly. Sorry :P. O_O What now, i was just asking a question, about events, i know she hasnt gone. how rude, whining indeed. Frozenwind 12:23, 15 April 2008 (UTC)
You asked "Will she STILL come to events..." Which implied, like many others do, that she dropped off the face of Anet. She didn't, 'tis all I'm saying.- VanguardUser-VanguardAvatar.PNG 12:25, 15 April 2008 (UTC)
ah no worries :D , guess it was my mistake for not being clear, sorry. Frozenwind 12:27, 15 April 2008 (UTC)
Indeed. Also, fixed indents. There's no need for starting a new line unless you're addressing something or someone else.- VanguardUser-VanguardAvatar.PNG 12:30, 15 April 2008 (UTC)
Well, I'm not a member of the community team, but I'm still a member of the community. ;) I doubt that I would be attending an event in an official sense, but I imagine that, after I get settled into my new role, I'll be popping into some of the players events as a player. Thanks for asking. -- Gaile User gaile 2.png 18:04, 15 April 2008 (UTC)
Just a question, do you still have GM rights. and the purple text?? -- The Warrior Of Timi 18:23, 15 April 2008 (UTC)
I was also wondering this, I presumed that the answer would be yes, but clarification would be nice. - User FirstSunspear icon.png FirstSunspear /// Talk 19:16, 15 April 2008 (UTC)
Either way, Gaile is still Gaile. That's good enough for me. -- Alaris_sig Alaris 03:51, 16 April 2008 (UTC)
Aw, thanks, Alaris, that's nice of you! :)
The fact is, lavender text has been retired. As has The Frog's yellow... oh, excuse me, my Amphibian Friend!... The Frog's "golden" text. So any of us from ArenaNet or NCsoft who speak -- as GMs, as community team members, as global message senders (for instance, sending a cross-district message if we needed to reset the maps for the tournament!) -- will speak in aqua from now on. -- Gaile User gaile 2.png 04:39, 17 April 2008 (UTC)
Retired eh? Except when proof is needed =P [4] Good to see ur still hanging around in game on Gaile. Ashes Of Doom 18:40, 18 April 2008 (UTC)
Yes, my bad? That was a total accident on my part, and I was pretty embarrassed. The "proof" was going to be the frog miniature, not the lavender text! *blush* Anyway, that line was typed before the changes in colours, but they're in place now. -- Gaile User gaile 2.png 20:23, 18 April 2008 (UTC)
Speaking of "Gaile Sightings", I just spied a certain lvl 7 R/Mo playing Dragon hatchling tag (or whatever its called). My brother said hi, and you disappeared! And I noticed you have joined ZoS now. Good for you. Hope to see you again some time in game! Ashes Of Doom 01:23, 27 April 2008 (UTC)

Ascalon Family Masquerade Ball 08

Me again!

What a coinsidence!, about a day or two after asking if you will still attend player run events, i got asked to Host this years ball! 0_0 how freaky is that eh?.The dates not set yet, but it should be this coming month.Invite time!,me and the Guild wars community who will be attending this fantastic ball are asking you,Gaile,to grace us with your your presence as one of us!, "As a player".

Y'know froggie wants to ;),he does love a good party dosent he?

RegardsFrozenwind 12:48, 18 April 2008 (UTC)

Sounds like a great event! And you got that right, Froggie has Level 11 on Party Animal! ;) Thanks for the invitation. :) -- Gaile User gaile 2.png 20:27, 18 April 2008 (UTC)

The Frog is a 1337 Haxor (but, dont tell him that!)How can he give away so many fireworks in one 3 day event and STILL go over the max?. The date of the ball is 10th of may, you can find out more details on the guildwarsguru front page. Seeyou there :)Frozenwind 19:26, 21 April 2008 (UTC)

Ok, Frozenwind, I'll keep the comment about Froggie quiet. I mentioned him being "1337" once, and he launched into quite a little lecture on the human oddity of merging letters and numbers, and how he hoped such "deplorable spelling wouldn't influence the younger, impressionable members of the TPN." :) -- Gaile User gaile 2.png 02:32, 24 April 2008 (UTC)

Just a reminder to the Tad-Pole Network, the ball is TODAY!, looking forward to a blast of a ball. Mark my words, this will be a day to remember! Frozenwind 03:15, 10 May 2008 (UTC)

Your Green Bows

Oye, Gaile! I was looking through your list of green bows, and your droknar's set seemed a little lacking. I already have all of Droks weapons (customized, sadly), and I just got a new key. Considering how I don't need any others, is there any of Droknar's bows that you need in particular? I'd be glad to get it for your collection! Just let me know if you need one. I'd be happy to help. :P --User Wandering Traveler Oie User Wandering Traveler Sig2.png Wandering Traveler 01:41, 19 April 2008 (UTC)

That's really nice of you! If I recall, there are only two skins for Drok's. I have the Longbow, so I have one of the skins. The second skin is the one with the hand-piece, like the Recurve and Shortbow. So if I were adding to my collection, I'd be seeking one of those. But I know that Drok's are not easy to come by, so I really think you should consider whether any of your characters could use the use of the key, just in case. :) -- Gaile User gaile 2.png 18:05, 19 April 2008 (UTC)
Actaully, all my heroes have Droknar's weapons, so any others I get would just sit in storage and gather dust >.<. I'd be glad to get you Droknar's Recurve or Shortbow. Rather do that then have a key gather dust in storage as well :P --User Wandering Traveler Oie User Wandering Traveler Sig2.png Wandering Traveler 18:32, 19 April 2008 (UTC)
Ohayo, one more update. I got through and got Droknar's Recurve Bow (and I checked, no one can use it on my account :P) So whenever I catch you in game, I'll hand it over :) --User Wandering Traveler Oie User Wandering Traveler Sig2.png Wandering Traveler 23:00, 21 April 2008 (UTC)
Thanks a bunch, Wandering Traveler. :) -- Gaile User gaile 2.png 22:49, 22 April 2008 (UTC)
lol, no trouble. i'll let you know if I run across any other bows. heaven knows I don't have the storage for them :P --User Wandering Traveler Oie User Wandering Traveler Sig2.png Wandering Traveler 02:56, 23 April 2008 (UTC)
Wha...? You have a storage shortage? I don't know what you mean! ;) ;) -- Gaile User gaile 2.png 05:57, 23 April 2008 (UTC)
Hah, I'm out of storage, my mules are full, and I'm out of character slots...some things have to go somewhere! :D --User Wandering Traveler Oie User Wandering Traveler Sig2.png Wandering Traveler 13:10, 23 April 2008 (UTC)

E-Mail Contact

First, I really don't know if I'm doing it right in terms of the layout of this page. Second, I'd like to get in contact with you (Gaile) to share my thoughts on an issue that has occured that, as a member of the Guild Wars team (and the only one I trust to actually care about my thoughts and not just toss it into a pile of others just like it), I would like you to know about.

Creme Brulee or Firewater

I'm thinking this is a good weekend to be looking at goodies to boost my titles. Well, you know, the fun titles that event weekends help boost, that is. So, what's the better deal: Firewater or Creme Brulee? (I figure for straight out Sweet Tooth boosts, obviously the 3 points gained from the CB for 10 Victory Tokens beats the two through the Birthday Cupcake and of course it is better than 1 point through the Sugary Blue Drink. But if I'm trying to get the best bang for my buck -- errr... Victory Token -- am I missing something by not taking that tempting 5-point Firewater? Thanks for any advice you want to share. :) -- Gaile User gaile 2.png 05:14, 28 April 2008 (UTC)

Nine Rings, Creme Brulee, Firewater and Fireworks. Four titles you can build simultaneously to make you a luckily hammered party animal with sugar on top. :) -- WarBlade 05:36, 28 April 2008 (UTC)
So true! I love the special events! (Just between you and me, though, giving up 10 tickets at a time for Nine Rings -- ouch! Rings of Fortune is more my style. ;) On the other hand, I just won 25 tickets in 9 Rings before I popped over here, so maybe I should play that more. -- Gaile User gaile 2.png 05:40, 28 April 2008 (UTC)
I enjoy events too. I was thinking on your dilemma during this weekend actually. :) To get the full 5 points of value from the drink you have to combine it with more alcohol (several 1 level drinks) because the first two "levels" of drunk don't earn you minutes on your drunkness title. So if you assume you're consuming them as you please, not stock piling goodies to get the most - the Creme Brulee is 3 straight points and the Firewater is also only 3 straight points(minutes) to the title too if you consume it as a stand alone drink - flip a coin on which is best in this case. If you're stockpiling to mix with level 1 drinks then the points from the Firewater can get you some extra value. *scratches head* I'm not sure that makes sense. See also Drunkard. --Aspectacle 05:49, 28 April 2008 (UTC)
Oh, true. I wasn't really thinking about the "cost" of the initiating drinks, but just that 5-point reward. In that case, I guess I'll stick with the sweeties. I'm about 6K towards Sweet Tooth and 7K towards Party Animal, so I'm excited about seeing the light at the end of the tunnel. :) -- Gaile User gaile 2.png 05:51, 28 April 2008 (UTC)
I'd be done with party animal (or close to it) but the week before your party I sold 4 stacks of demonic remains that I thought for sure that if no collector had appeared by now, there'd be no use for them. Well... 4000 points up and disappeared. /wrists -elviondale (tahlk) 11:25, 28 April 2008 (UTC)
I did the same thing with saurian bones /cry --LemmingUser Lemming64 sigicon.png 15:58, 28 April 2008 (UTC)
Wait, wait, guys, so you're saying "Hold onto every item just in case it might be used for an events collector? *makes note* I have about eleventeen mules now. Can three or four more hurt? :D -- Gaile User gaile 2.png 07:01, 29 April 2008 (UTC)

Once again...

Well....This is either good or bad. Gaile, I may have another green bow for you. I say this because I got my new Deldrimoir Talisman, went through the mission, whooped the lich into the next time zone, and got to the end. Guess what? I grab my green wep, go to customize it, go out to use it, and....well, it wasnt the one I wanted. Turns out I got a longbow {whoopsie) instead of a flatbow. So my question is: If you don't mind that its customized, would you like a Green Deldrimor Longbow? I can't really sell it, and I don't use longbows, strangely. But ya, let me know if you'd like it, even if its customized.... >.< --User Wandering Traveler Oie User Wandering Traveler Sig2.png Wandering Traveler 03:43, 30 April 2008 (UTC)

I lol'd. So sweet and pointless.--96.225.144.48 13:14, 30 April 2008 (UTC)
Pahah, yup. but I'd rather it go to a good cause instead of that little trash icon in the inventory screen :P --User Wandering Traveler Oie User Wandering Traveler Sig2.png Wandering Traveler 13:20, 30 April 2008 (UTC)
That's really nice of you! Since this is a collection for my own ... amusement, I guess ... and not a set that I must and need to use (or at least not every bow!), I'd be delighted to accept the gift. I'll try to get in touch in the next day or two. I'm super busy with some major Support stuff, but I'm still squeezing in some play time when I can. :D -- Gaile User gaile 2.png 06:48, 2 May 2008 (UTC)
I know that feeling. I just got back from a band trip, so I'll try to catch you online at some point. --User Wandering Traveler Oie User Wandering Traveler Sig2.png Wandering Traveler 22:43, 4 May 2008 (UTC)
(Edit conflict) oye, Gaile, I havent forgotten about the bow. Finals and school projects came on me like a steamroller with spiked treads. I'll try to get on soon to get you that bow. --User Wandering Traveler Oie User Wandering Traveler Sig2.png Wandering Traveler 21:56, 6 May 2008 (UTC)
