Gods of Tyria
From Guild Wars Wiki
- The Gods of Tyria (also called The Old Gods and the Five True Gods): The Gods that are believed by the humans and intelligent beings to have created the world of Tyria and who bestow the Favor of the Gods. The Gods of Tyria are:
- The Unseen Ones: The gods of the White Mantle who worship them as the true saviors and protectors of Kryta.
- The fiery beings worshipped by the Charr.
- The Great Dwarf, worshipped by the Deldrimor Dwarves, and his rival the Great Destroyer, worshipped by at least some of the Stone Summit Dwarves.
- Abaddon, the former god of knowledge, water, and secrets, Dhuum, the former god of death, Menzies, the half-brother of Balthazar (although Menzies has not been explicitly referred to as a god) and the unnamed predecessor of Abaddon, mentioned in the quest dialogue for the Apostate.
- Kormir, who absorbs Abaddon's power and becomes the Goddess of Truth.

The Gods of Tyria, also known as the Five True Gods and the Old Gods, are the five gods who in the theology of humans and other advanced races created the world of Tyria. They are:
- Balthazar: God of war and fire
- Dwayna: Goddess of life and air
- Grenth: God of death and ice, defeated Dhuum to obtain this position
- Lyssa: Twin goddess of beauty and illusion.
- Melandru: Goddess of nature and earth
They are also known as the "Old Gods" as they have left the world of Tyria about a thousand years ago.
[edit] The Old Gods in the game
The presence of the Old Gods can be felt in the present day in the game in two major ways:
- Before the August 9, 2007 update, teams competing in Heroes' Ascent and winning The Hall of Heroes for their territory would bring the Favor of the Gods to their territory. This will open up interaction with the avatars of these Gods. The only thing that has changed is that people competing in the Hall of Heroes no longer affect the favor of the gods.
- If the world has Favor, then players in the PvE campaign can interact with the avatars of the Gods at any god's statue. The avatars can bestow blessings, give quests and even grant access to the Realms of the Gods.
[edit] The history of the Old Gods in Tyria
According to legend, the Old Gods used to live on Tyria while they were creating it. They used to make their home the city of Arah in the area known as Orr.
In the year 1 BE, the Old Gods gifted all sentient races with the gift of magic, but it was abused by all as each race tried to use this gift to destroy the others. After a plea from King Doric, the Gods sealed away the power to control all of magic in the Bloodstones and shortly after, they left Tyria for good and went into the Rift in an event known as the Exodus of the Gods.

Outside of their history in Tyria, the Old Gods have a greater history and lore. Some of the known plots are:
- The constant war between Balthazar and his half-brother Menzies in the Fissure of Woe.
- The demon infestation that plagues the Underworld, the realm of Grenth.
- The defeat of Dhuum, the previous god of death, by Grenth.
- Wintersday.
- The exile of Abaddon, the former God of Secrets.
