Resurrection

A means of bring a party member back to life after they have been killed. Generally a vital component of any build in either PvE or PvP. Often abbreviated to "res" or "rez". Vital in parties as a safeguard in areas without resurrection shrines. You will not be popular if you are the only surviving member of the party and you cannot resurrect the others.

Resurrection shrines are found in most explorable areas. There are no resurrection shrines in the higher-end areas or in missions. Certain PvP maps periodically resurrect dead party members. In other PvP matches, resurrection occurs every 2 minutes, so the timing of a death can be critical.

The term "hard res" is used to refer to resurrection skills that can be used multiple times; this makes "soft res" taken to mean skills that can only be used once and only recharged under special circumstances (such as the Resurrection Signet).

In PvE, resurrected foes will not yield experience, loot or faction, and will not count towards bounties.

In PvP, typically every character that is not a dedicated healer/protector will carry some form of resurrection. Sometimes dedicated flag runners in GvG do not carry resurrection. In 8-man teams it is customary for one character to take a hard res; often this is done on a Mesmer primary for fast casting, as hard res skills have long cast times. When a team's res signets are depleted often that team will try for a morale boost to recharge them.

Skills which resurrect someone with a given percentage of energy base this percentage on the character's pool using the equipment he had when he died. Thus, dying on your high swap will result in a resurrection with very little energy once you return to your normal equipment.
