Capping elites - "skill locked"

Some of us got a "skill locked" message and in the GWEN mission "Anything You can Do" could not capture elite skills using the Sig of Capture from White Out or The Fragment, but succeeded with Avarr.

Why would someone of the right class get a "skill locked" message using the sig? Happened to leader once, follower another time. --The preceding unsigned comment was added by User:68.99.97.238 (talk).

Simple, that person does not have the campaign from which the elite skill in question comes from. It may seem silly, but otherwise GW:EN would be limited to the few core elites. Make for boring bosses =) Marin Alacet 00:11, 16 February 2008 (UTC)
Because you don't have the campaign that skill belongs to. In GW:EN, bosses have skills from all three campaigns, but you can only cap the ones from the ones you own. See List of skills by campaign. Biscuits User Biscuits sig.png 00:15, 16 February 2008 (UTC)

Heroes and exp

if heroes can level by gaining exp just like a player. do i have to gain he exp as well, I.E if I travel back to start with the heroes I want to level up and re-do the quests, will my heroes still gain the exp dispite the fact i wont?

--82.10.203.89 19:03, 16 February 2008 (UTC)

Just a note on good spots to level up Heroes; my personal favorite, if you're far enough, is the Desolation. The Heroes' level and skills don't matter while they're in a wurm. With bounties in the area as well, it's a great spot to level up Heroes (and get quests and treasure chests while you're at it). --User Jioruji Derako logo.png Jïörüjï Ðērākō.>.cнаt^ 00:17, 17 February 2008 (UTC)

Wait how can you "travel back" and keep your heroes? 65.161.73.245 03:00, 17 February 2008 (UTC)

You can get back to Istan with map travel.. -- Gordon Ecker 03:30, 17 February 2008 (UTC)

you heroes can go everywhere you can, missions, travel, etc, unless its a solo mission. your heroes also over-ride your henchmen . IE if your in a party of 6 (you +3heroes+ 2henchmen) and go to a town where the party size is only 4 you'll loose the henchmen, even if the henchmen are are avalible in town.

back to my origional question for a sec, and I think the answer will be no. If for example I did the Great north wall with a hero, the hero will get 1,000 for the mission and 1,000 for the bonus (first time), if I then did the mission again would the hero get another 2,000? or like player's character not get anything.? --82.10.203.89 10:36, 17 February 2008 (UTC)

Two questions

Hey

  • Why can you sometimes town travel with your party and other times it makes you leave your party?
  • How do people send you a party invitation so you have to go to Search and hit accept?

65.161.73.245 02:58, 17 February 2008 (UTC)

to first Q, if all party members have the place and the place your traveling to allows party of that size and your in a town, it will allow your whole group to go there, if your missing one part you can't. to 2ed question, you send invites like that only if they have a party search open for people to click join in the search window --Sumta 04:08, 17 February 2008 (UTC)
Also, only the Party leader can "town travel" the entire party; if a party member who's not leader tries to switch towns, they'll leave the party. When you're the party leader and your party can't travel, it'll generally tell you the reason as well ("one of the players in your party cannot travel to that town", etc). --User Jioruji Derako logo.png Jïörüjï Ðērākō.>.cнаt^ 04:20, 17 February 2008 (UTC)

The spammers of Guild Wars!!!

I know about the '/report' but they have to be in the district and we can't report them and i can't get my queston onto Play NC due to it keep saying that i haven't got a Play NC account, but i do! and the people that PMing us gamers get our names then go to a different place or district to avoid us who spam us with 'welcome to www.ugamegold.com,cheap guildwars gold and powerleveling, instant delivery 24/7 live help.' so all i want to know is how can we stop them and filling up our 'ignored list' with their names so they stop?

That's not an easily answerable question, in my opinion. They switch districts often, so if you're not fast on the /report command, it's no good; they make new accounts too often to make an ignore list worthwhile; and since they're bots, you can't just ask them to stop.
Try to report quickly when one PMs you; don't bother finding them in the district, just type "/report player name" and hit it. Generally, they stick around in the district for a little bit, so you can catch them.
Aside from that, it's up to ArenaNet to catch them. They recently made a change so new PvP characters start in the Isle of the Nameless, not right in the town, so 'bots need to be programmed to find the town before they can spam. But that didn't slow them down for long. Hopefully it's a simple fix soon, or the website goes out of business or something; it's a fairly recent occurrence all in all, one can only hope it passes as quickly as it came. --User Jioruji Derako logo.png Jïörüjï Ðērākō.>.cнаt^ 20:45, 17 February 2008 (UTC)
Yes, I've heard people claim they've changed that. Can't really say they did though, I still always start in Great Temple of Balthazar with new pvp characters. Been ages since I started in Isle of the Nameless with one. — Galil Talk page 21:20, 17 February 2008 (UTC)
I just tested this. I bought a new account with the PvP Access Kit about a month ago, and started in Isle of the Nameless. If I make a new char, it starts in the temple. So I guess it is just the first char that starts in Nameless. Biscuits User Biscuits sig.png 21:25, 17 February 2008 (UTC)

Rounding

Does the game always round up or down to the closest whole number or does it deal in fractions? For instance, you have Searing Flames, with a skill recharge of 2. Essence of Celerity would reduce that recharge by 25%. Does it go to 1.5 then? If so, does that mean that every reduction in casting time or recharge is useful? (up to the stacking limits - 50% in case of recharge) Thanks. Tried asking this in the old Guild Wiki but no one answered. 201.6.41.214 21:44, 17 February 2008 (UTC)

It uses rounded values but works internal sometimes with fractions. For example when you have 10 energy you sometimes are not able to use a 10 energy skill because you only have 9.8 energy but it is still displayed as 10. poke | talk 21:47, 17 February 2008 (UTC)
Skill activation and recharge times can be in fractions, so in that case it would be 1.5. Biscuits User Biscuits sig.png 23:34, 17 February 2008 (UTC)
A good example is Fast Casting and Expertise, I think. Skill activations can be in all sorts of fractions, while Skill costs get rounded to the closest number. Fractions/Rounded all depends on the instance, I think... I don't think people ever take fractions of damage, so that rounds I'm sure. --User Jioruji Derako logo.png Jïörüjï Ðērākō.>.cнаt^ 00:15, 18 February 2008 (UTC)
I think it internally stores the data. — Eloc 03:29, 18 February 2008 (UTC)
Yeah, I really wanted to know about casting time and recharge. I like to weight builds carefully for speed and consistency, mostly for heroes, and it's hard to measure these tiny differences. Thanks - if Biscuits is right that answers my question ;) 189.33.169.230 16:22, 18 February 2008 (UTC)

ok, if you're so fond of seeing links to lists: List of Prophecies quests, List of Factions quests, List of Nightfall quests... sort them by "given at" and you should find new quests pretty soon. and it's very common for new players to say "mission" when they mean "quest". :P - Y0_ich_halt Have a look at my page 15:26, 19 February 2008 (UTC)
This is going way off-topic, hehe. Anyway, I'm talking about what is most useful to the person asking the question. If someone is saying they've done all the "missions" in their quest log, and they have no more (real) mission on the map - providing a link to the Mission article, which links to pages showing the correct sequence of missions and primary quests for each campaign, is much more useful than providing a link to the Quest article, or a list of all quests in the campaign, as they don't know which one to look for. And that's my final word on this topic (in this instance, anyway). :) Biscuits User Biscuits sig.png 19:07, 19 February 2008 (UTC)
and what i'm talking about is that very likely, said person actually meant "quest", not "mission", going by what they said. so, to clear this up: - Y0_ich_halt Have a look at my page 22:00, 19 February 2008 (UTC)

a question to you, who asked this question: are you sure you meant "mission", i.e. missions with outposts? or were you talking about quests, i.e. npcs' requests which are added to your quest log? - Y0_ich_halt Have a look at my page 22:00, 19 February 2008 (UTC)

conduct, etiquette and general treatment of other players

I’m sure this question has probably been asked before, if so I apologize, but is there a set of rules regarding conduct, etiquette and general treatment of other players?

I’m writing this in regard to an incident that happened to me a few hours ago. One of my characters, an assassin, was doing the Arborstone mission, got stuck asked for help, a character offered and joined my party, started the mission, he then announced he’s already done this, laughed and left.

Fortunately, I’m a member of a guild and one of my fellow guild members helped, but that’s not the point, what if I was a newbie at the start of the game, on his or her first or second mission? It could give the wrong impression about GW’ers (does anyone know what you call someone who plays GW? Other then mad of cause). Which would be a shame because GW isn’t a bad game; (I wouldn’t say it’s the best game, because, someone’s bound to disagree).

If you offer to help someone, isn't it common courtesy to finish it, or at least try, not start take two steps, laugh and leave.

Or is it just me? --82.10.203.89 15:11, 19 February 2008 (UTC)

This really doesn't sound like a breach of any reasonable etiquette, really. He offered to join up with you, once started realized he had already completed the mission, and left. Sure, maybe he laughed (at himself or the situation) but there's nothing here stating he had malicious intent. Just because a player isn't newbie-friendly, doesn't make that player an evil animal. Other than maybe apologizing to you (that's optional on his part) what he did was completely natural for a human being, and a time-intensed player of a computer video game. --Mystisteel 15:19, 19 February 2008 (UTC)

Better Monk's wand/focus item or Staff

For this I am just looking for people opinion here. If I make a monk what will the better weapon choice be a wand with a focus item or a staff?--King Ranik 11:41, 21 February 2008 (UTC)

Complicated. :) With a wand, you can also take a shield if you want. I sat and tried to work out the differences between Staff or Wand/Focus combos, but with upgrades and insignia it is hugely complicated! Maybe it would make a good wiki project... Biscuits User Biscuits sig.png 12:03, 21 February 2008 (UTC)
It all depends on your game style. I personally, as a prot monk would go for an enchanted melee equip and a shield for extra armor and health. As a healing monk I typically use a staff but it once again varies from a wand + shield than a focus. I personally don't bother with HRT/HCT since monk spells are 1 second and recharges pretty fast. Renin 14:34, 21 February 2008 (UTC)
Myself as a Healing Monk, I use a staff; the mods aren't too important to me with the exception of the +30hp, so being able to have a total of +60hp is nice.
Another good setup is actually +30hp Shield (extra armor AND health), and a one-handed weapon (I use a Spear generally, with +30hp of course).
I would say, try to think of how much energy you need. Focus items give +12e, a one-handed martial weapon can give +5e as well, and a Staff gives at least +10e, up to +20e if you use an Insightful Staff Head and a energy-boosting inscription. If you really need the energy, Staff gives more overall, but if you don't need all that, the other little things from Shields and whatnot just might be better. --User Jioruji Derako logo.png Jïörüjï Ðērākō.>.cнаt^ 19:08, 21 February 2008 (UTC)

Nope. To clarify a bit, Elementalist is a "Core" profession, not a Prophecies one. The only way to do all the Prophecies quests is to make a character in Prophecies.
If you just want to do all the missions, you can do that with any character, from any campaign; you just want be able to do any of the quests in the storyline between those missions, because the storyline for a foreign character picks up from Lion's Arch onwards. --User Jioruji Derako logo.png Jïörüjï Ðērākō.>.cнаt^ 06:19, 22 February 2008 (UTC)

  • Is there any way to see how far off the Kurzicks are from regaining control of Brauer Academy and Lutgardis Conservatory? Will it ever happen?
  • How do the luxons even get to the kurz side to use their outposts? Yes, you'll need to Befriend the Luxons to get any farther on their side. This won't affect your standing with the Kurzicks at all, you just need to earn up the initial 10k Luxon faction.

Maybe try uninstalling and reinstalling to make sure your Guild Wars.exe isn't corrupt or otherwise screwed up. Calor Talk 17:53, 24 February 2008 (UTC)
Coming from a networking perspective, see what has changed, if anything (new computers, changed IP addresses, etc) and adjust accordingly. I find that I'm actually able to connect multiple clients without port forwarding or UPnP enabled. Try reverting all those changes if you can. If that doesn't work (>.<) enable UPnP. I hate telling people to do that, but it will probably solve your problem if its a router issue. Also make sure you aren't running through a system-wide proxy server, as that may be blocking ports. -elviondale (tahlk) 18:01, 24 February 2008 (UTC)

Grey dye drops

Grey dye drops. I have 4 Grey dye drops in my inventory. We have an argument and I am accused of buying it. Has anyone else gotten grey drops? --The preceding unsigned comment was added by User:68.245.122.72 (talk).

No, never seen these drop. However, I have accidentally bought one or two before due to lag. It's the top item on the trader's list ;) --SnogratUser Snograt signature.png 09:25, 25 February 2008 (UTC)
(Edit conflict) :I think you have to buy it. :p If it is an old character, maybe you had some old Dye Remover in your inventory before it was changed to Gray Dye? I agree with Snograt, you probably bought them by mistake. I don't know why I answered this as you probably won't find the response. ;) Biscuits User Biscuits sig.png 09:31, 25 February 2008 (UTC)
He might, if he use to same IP to check back :) -- ab.er.rant User Ab.er.rant Sig.png 09:59, 25 February 2008 (UTC)
I need to add that, within hours of writing the above, I did it again. Proud owner of 1 Grey dye ><. --SnogratUser Snograt signature.png 00:33, 26 February 2008 (UTC)

The Great Norn Alemoot

moved from The Great Norn Alemoot (male)

I am unable to accomplish the slalom.

I have tried over 100 times.

I have sent bug reports to GW.com.

I have asked guildies and alliance ppl--however ALL of them completed this quest BEFORE the bug fix.

Both guildwikis suggest starting at the base of the hill, which I do.

And my character has just finished drinking from the barrels so he is on the side of the first marker's ARM.

When he runs past it, he gets an affirmative audible. However, running past the next marker, he does not.

I am so baffled and due to my O.C.D. tendencies, I am unable to go on to another quest without completing this one.

HELP? --The preceding unsigned comment was added by User:70.135.73.217 (talk).

For one, make sure you go a little extra wide around the markers on the slalom; if you're too close to the pole, it sometimes thinks you didn't go all the way around it. Try that and see if it works at all. --User Jioruji Derako logo.png Jïörüjï Ðērākō.>.cнаt^ 20:19, 25 February 2008 (UTC)
If you still struggle (like I did), enter the contest area but don't talk to the quest starter yet. Go round up the piggies first. It's very much like the "secret" hog herding quest-ette in Pre-searing. Once you have 3 (or 4?) in the pen, then start the quest. Ding! Quest complete :D --SnogratUser Snograt signature.png 00:36, 26 February 2008 (UTC)
there is a bug with this people have used, go right for the pigs and herd them in. once all 3 pigs are in, you win. no time limets --Sumta 17:03, 27 February 2008 (UTC)

No Green Items

Hello. I have been playing Guild Wars since November 2007. I own the Prophecies, Factions and Eye of the North campaigns. I have completed Prophecies and Eye of the North however I have not even gotten 1 green item through my adventures except for the one in the chest at the end of Eye of the North. I got a few golden items but nothing really special. I killed a lot of bosses and cleared out some ares, even some in hard mode but no green items. The golden items I get are usually just scrolls. I don't know if it is just me having bad luck or something I am doing wrong, but it is kind of disappointing when I play for a whole day and maybe get 1 golden scroll. Your help will be appreciated.

--StingRay 07:12, 26 February 2008 (UTC)

Do you play with Heroes/Henchmen often? Despite not being actual players, they can still be assigned drops from mobs (drops that would go to them just don't drop instead). So with a full team, you've only got a 1-in-8 chance of anything that drops being for you. Full team of AI, and it's a 1-in-8 chance of anything dropping at all. So that might contribute to your lack of luck.
Unless I'm specifically solo farming, I don't think I've gotten more then a few greens, and I've been playing for over a year now. So I don't think you're doing anything wrong, just having a little bad luck (not even that bad). --User Jioruji Derako logo.png Jïörüjï Ðērākō.>.cнаt^ 08:20, 26 February 2008 (UTC)

I farm hardmode in Prophecies and Eye of the North with just my Healer Heroe. --StingRay 09:17, 26 February 2008 (UTC)

I would call it just bad luck, then. For all you know, you could be getting an average number of drops, but your Hero is getting lucky and getting most of them. Maybe try replacing the Hero with another player, or mess around with a solo build. I've been in Hard Mode Norn Farming groups before; that's eight players, killing upwards of 250 foes per run, and maybe a gold or two total for the entire group. Some foes might have better drop rates then others, so I can't say for sure. --User Jioruji Derako logo.png Jïörüjï Ðērākō.>.cнаt^ 19:53, 26 February 2008 (UTC)

I feel your pain .. For about 30 months now i have played many ...and i stress MANY hours... Alot of people have that same bad luck (my self included partys, heros, and near constant nerfs keep changing your drop rate..Frustrating as it may seem, there is a reason for it .. but convincing a battle harden vet(15million exp)of it ..just not happening...So i'll give you the same advice that i recieved from and ingame employee...Save up the plat(gold) and just buy what you want...otherwise your stress level will just hit the roof.. i know that isn't very helpful. but if you can hang on long enough , i should hope that by the time guild wars 2 starts, The drop rate would return for the better due to the lack of players supporting the orignal game. After all a-net is going to have to give up somthing to renew intrest..might as well start with the drops in my honest opinion --The preceding unsigned comment was added by User:Destrocobracommander (talk).

alliance leader offline

im in a alliance that the alliance leader's account was banned..how would this alliance gain back the leadership? an officer of the same guild will take over the leaders banned account spot? hope you can help me on this..thanks!--71.104.162.11 11:43, 26 February 2008 (UTC)

Yes, once he has been offline for long enough, the oldest officer from the guild will be promoted to leader. Alternatively, you could try contacting support to see if they can speed up the process. Biscuits User Biscuits sig.png 11:51, 26 February 2008 (UTC)
After three months of inactivity, the leader will be demoted and an officer will be promoted (the exact way to figure which officer hasn't been discovered yet). Calor Talk 19:58, 26 February 2008 (UTC)

how do i walk in this game

how do i get my character to walk in this game, not run? i dont see how you can change it in the options menu -- david wiz

You can't, there is no walking in Guild Wars. There is a walking effect that you see when you are snared, but you cannot voluntarily walk. Biscuits User Biscuits sig.png 12:34, 27 February 2008 (UTC)

How to Report a User

Read Report pretty much. Antiarchangel 23:46, 27 February 2008 (UTC)
You're screwed now, because he technically committed no crime because player services aren't covered in the EULA and are done at your own risk, and you can only report a player in the same district as you. Calor Talk 23:49, 27 February 2008 (UTC)
You can report a user online by using the /report username emote as long as the character is still in the same outpost district as you. At this point, the only thing you can do is issue a support ticket at http://www.guildwars.com/support. It certainly helps to have screen shots of any conversations you had with the other player. You may also refer to the Report article for more information. --User Rohar icon.jpg Rohar (talk|contribs) 23:55, 27 February 2008 (UTC)
When it comes to running you do it at your own risk, its not against any rules to not pay for a run. Biz 16:33, 1 March 2008 (UTC)

lvl 20 attributes.

On all of the charts for skills The level of attributes go to 20, but I can only can only Figure out how to get 16 (12 from points + 1 from headgear + 3 from a rune.) How do I get the other four. Thank you for your time. --The preceding unsigned comment was added by User:24.119.51.167 (talk).

the only way to go to 20 is from item buffs and skills buffs but i don't think there is a way to get to 20 attribute points 18 is possible but it don't think 20 it.--話す priestess donut 寄付21:48, 29 February 2008 (UTC)
+2 if you use Awaken the Blood or +2 from Glyph of Elemental Power, Weapon mods that have a +1/20% proc mod for an attribute, Blessings from Avatars, and certain consumables that drop from mobs on special days (holidays, events, etc.) so 20 is possible.--74.61.209.219 21:52, 29 February 2008 (UTC)
You are right, you can only get 16 permanently, but as the others said above you can temporarily raise your attributes with certain skills, consumables, and mods. Biscuits User Biscuits sig.png 22:04, 29 February 2008 (UTC)

Bag in pre-searing Ascalon

How/or where, can I get a Bag in pre-searing Ascalon --206.255.5.53 22:27, 29 February 2008 (UTC)

Check the Charr Bag article. But to make it short, got north of the wall (will need help opening the gate a.k.a. gate monkey), and kill the bosses at the shrine until one of them drops it... or you could also buy it from a player if you really want to stay in Pre-Searing Ascalon (once you switch to post, they can be bought at merchants).--Fighterdoken 22:31, 29 February 2008 (UTC)

Pre-Searing and post-Searing

Can you go back to Pre-Searing Ascalon once you switch to post-Searing Ascalon? --206.255.5.53 22:51, 29 February 2008 (UTC)

No, consider creating a new character if you wish to visit the beautiful land of Ascalon again RT | Talk 22:56, 29 February 2008 (UTC)
