Starting from Zen Daijun, follow the route up to the Crimson Skull camp near the sea, you can evade all foes except for some Crimson Skull on the route. At the camp, four high level Crimson Skull reside (at the location of the player marker on the map) together with Miki the Skull Spirit who has a chance of dropping 1 or 2 Silver Crimson Skull Coins. More medium level Crimson Skull dropping Silver Coins are around the camp and on the route towards it. This run will also return some Gold Crimson Skull Coins and Copper Crimson Skull Coins. Having The Captured Son active will vastly improve spawns of all levels of Crimson Skulls though it makes farming a bit more difficult. Without the quest active, runs yield an average of 2 Silver Crimson Skull Coins.
Start from Tsumei Village, following the route on the map, you will encounter no foes other than Crimson Skull. There are three bosses on the route with a chance of dropping two Silver Crimson Skull Coins at once (marked on the map), four high level Crimson Skull with a chance of dropping Gold Crimson Skull Coins (also marked on the map) and a lot of low level mobs dropping Copper Crimson Skull Coins, including some pop-ups. Average drops are around 6 Copper, 2 Silver and 0.5 Gold coins per run (resulting in one gold coin for every two runs).
