- Fortunately easy farm. Good drop rate too. Usually 1-3 legs from a group. 85.19.140.9 20:05, 1 November 2010 (UTC)
- "For example, if you take a Weaver Leg and wrap it in some of their webbing, you can fashion yourself quite an effective torch." Wouldn't it make more sense to just use a stick or something and ask for the webs instead? Though it's not like much Nick does ever makes sense... 97.80.119.149 16:58, 2 November 2010 (UTC)

Predictions on remaining items
Nicholas has now visited enough areas to allow some speculation on what he will collect on remaining areas, hasn't he? Well, I compiled a first analysis on my user page (truth is, it did not seem wise to add this amount of data on this already long talk page). Feel free to discuss it, especially if it allows for more accuracy. Kanda 08:15, 8 November 2010 (UTC)
- Your predictions assume that he collects trophies every time. But so far, 18 out of 82 times (22%) he has been collecting rare crafting materials, consumables or stackable salvage items. Furthermore, he doesn't always collect a trophy from the region where he is (From memory I can mention Gloom Seeds and Chromatic Scales). Finally, he has only asked for 64 of the 235 trophies in the game so far. --Manassas 11:36, 8 November 2010 (UTC)
- Hence the abundance of 'most likely' ^^. I've added a note about it, but I have to take 4 cases out of your numbers: those when he wanted an item that could be obtained by trading local trophies. The rare materials and off-zone items remain, though, but are not really predictable as far as my skill goes. Kanda 12:34, 8 November 2010 (UTC)
- You forgot the 5 times he has asked for salvage items. --Manassas 13:50, 8 November 2010 (UTC)
- Such as Charr Hide, Luminous Stone, Roaring Ether Heart, Maguuma Spider Web and Pillaged Goods, indeed. Not exactly forgetting them, in fact I did include salvage items (except foe armors and half-digested things). For whatever reason I always considered them as trophies. Now that you say it I'll look at the list again, maybe I missed one or another. I'll now copy this on the article talk page for further suggestions. Kanda 14:48, 8 November 2010 (UTC)
- It seems to me that he has a higher probability of accepting Canthan New Year Items as I have tried to save them up for the next one and he keeps asking for them foiling my efforts.Cinnamongod 15:46, 8 November 2010 (UTC)
- I just hope he won't ever want ectos Aerials93 16:16, 8 November 2010 (UTC)
- He's never asked for any of the more expensive materials, so I doubt he will ask for ectos. Besides, I'd rather just buy the gifts for 5k ea than give him an ecto that is more expensive than a gift. 85.19.140.9 01:58, 9 November 2010 (UTC)

- The Siege at Tsumei Village is indeed a very quick and easy farm, just take a SoS Rit with the usual build and run out between the first set of trees, place spirits and eat popcorn. After a couple minutes of lolpwnage, run back in to Tsumei Village and abandon the quest and then grab it again from The Emperor's Blade. ®emi¢k§ 01:05, 9 November 2010 (UTC)
- Just what I did, too. Took 2 hours, but I finally got 25. I wish I didn't sell all of mine to make space in my bank thinking "oh, Nic'll never choose these buggers". Ifm2181 01:23, 9 November 2010 (UTC)

(Reset indent) Really? I farmed 100 in two hours for four accounts. There's actually two parts to the quest: one you go out into Sunqua and kill the waves there, and then go back into Tsumei and out into Panjiang and kill waves there. Then abandon and take again. You should be able to farm about 25 in 30 mins using a SoS ritualist. --★KOKUOU★ 02:23, 9 November 2010 (UTC)
- An otherwise good way to get these coins is to enter Sunqua Vale from Minister Cho's Estate and follow the path westwards, following the right-hand wall. Lots of crimson skull hop down from the trees and such. At the end of the path is the portal to Kinya province, so you can just rezone and walk back. I didn't know about the quest, so I haven't tried that, but I think I got the coins in 15-30 minutes this way just running back and forth on my assassin. Vzrk 08:59, 9 November 2010 (UTC)
- I used a Dwayna form derv, heal, hex removal, 1 hit kills, many times faster than SoS rit.--Derv Who Likes To 10:16, 9 November 2010 (UTC)
- Yes there is 2 parts to the quest but I found it quicker and the drops to be better from just doing the first part and abandoning and repeating. Took about 2-3 mins and averaged about 3-5 coins per run. When I did both parts I only got 1 or 2 coins tops on the 2nd half of the quest the few times I did it. ®emi¢k§ 13:44, 9 November 2010 (UTC)
- Might be a bit late or wrong place to ask, but I believe I have 5 or 6 spare coins (farmed them around the "port" and used all 25 already) - does anyone want them? Ru Vinn in game. 79.139.2.195 14:02, 11 November 2010 (UTC)

- Is he there both in the normal and WiK instance? 85.19.140.9 16:09, 22 November 2010 (UTC)
- I restarted, he's still not showing up for me. I have the normal instance, but I don't think that should matter. I think Watchtower Coast isn't different in WiK and normal.--Fogeltje 16:12, 22 November 2010 (UTC)
- Not there for me either. i've not got WiK on atm, but it certainly does affect watchtower, because the screenie of nick above is right where one of the bounty bosses spawnsNyb.thering 16:21, 22 November 2010 (UTC)
- You are right, it does affect this zone, I was wrong there. I've heard people in Beetletun who have WiK going and get him to spawn. Maybe this is one of the many bugs regarding WiK. Sadly I have one toon who has completed WiK and the others are nowhere near to access it. Anet better fix this as this is an easy farm and I don't want to miss out on gifts.--Fogeltje 16:23, 22 November 2010 (UTC)
- I'm not certain about this but doesn't picking up one of the Wanted Quests (which are still available after WiK) re-enable all the WiK areas?
- Yes it does, and i've got nicholas standing right next to Calamitous, so it seems he spawns only in WiK oddly enough Nyb.thering 16:28, 22 November 2010 (UTC)
- Just want to confirm, he's only spawning in WiK, should we add a note or a bug note? As shouldn't he be in both.--TimOfDoom 16:30, 22 November 2010 (UTC)
- A friend with WiK unlocked just tried it, she gets Peacekeepers and stuff but no Nick. I'm going to try it with a Wanted quest now.--Fogeltje 16:31, 22 November 2010 (UTC)
K, guys i think hes been moved, seen him 30 mins ago, now hes not there the next time i went.
- Alright, as far as I can tell: Me, having completed WiK, no spawn. My friend, having unlocked it, meaning finished Prophecies and EotN but not having done anything WiK related (not even access to LA Keep), no spawn. Me taking a Wanted quest, spawns. This is just too weird and I think it's a bug, not even an analomy.--Fogeltje 16:35, 22 November 2010 (UTC)
He shows during Wik quest but not before or after.
- Yup, thats the same as i had; Finished WiK and all available thackeray stuff, dropped wanted quest i had to go look for him - not there. Picked up wanted and now he is (and yes he still is, i reran it a min ago). have to agree with the unsigned poster before me Nyb.thering 16:39, 22 November 2010 (UTC)
- In response to his dialogue, just how strong is Nick? There should have been a costume brawl disguise with his build this past Halloween.131.247.140.18 16:53, 22 November 2010 (UTC) -Yumiko Ishida
- Anyone notice yet again that nick seems to be following the happenings of whats going on? (IE:Thackeray stuff releases and here is nick in the middle of where it was? Is there a trend or am I just seeing things?) Rogueonion 17:01, 22 November 2010 (UTC)
- Nick's path was determined before WiK development completed and certainly before HotN was fully fleshed out. I think there's more evidence that he is not following happenings. I think Nick's locations and WiK/HotN spawn points are partially determined by geography, so we should expect to see similar placement for both. — Tennessee Ernie Ford (TEF) 17:25, 22 November 2010 (UTC)
- I thought nick was set to randomly choose from a list, I may of course be wrong about this, but it does seem that he does follow events asking for wings when everyone was using them for black moa chicks when the HoM stuff released, asking for holiday items (items used to get holiday stuff) when that comes around. While I believe you, I need to start tracking this just to see for myself. Rogueonion 17:39, 22 November 2010 (UTC)

(Reset indent) So far, I have seen a friend's toon fail to find Nick; they have EotN but have not completed it. My own toon was able to find Nick with only a completed Bounty on the quest list. (I haven't tried going there without any active WiK quests or bounties.) He isn't there for the same toon after turning in the completed quest (and therefore leaving no active WiKs).
I also double-checked whether an WiK-eligible toon can bring a WiK-ineligible — unfortunately, the answer is no; Nick only appears if (any part of) WiK is active for all toons. Beginning A Good Deed counts; although that is logged as a Festival Quest, it can be taken after completing the EV quests in EotN.
@Rogue Onion: random behavior will offer up coincidences. Long before HoM calculator was released, Nick collected other items needed for the Black Moa Chick: spiritwood, juni berries, herring, stone grawl necklaces for honeycombs — everything except for hardened/unhardened eggs and volcanic rock. Of those, only the Skree Wings were collected after the HoM/BMC frenzy began. The list is probably as random as the Zaishen Mish cycle — that is, it was randomized once and now follows a repeating cycle. — Tennessee Ernie Ford (TEF) 18:12, 22 November 2010 (UTC)
- Seems that everyone must be eligible for WiK (or have already finished it). I.e. not eligible for WiK? No Nick. Finished WiK? Take a Wanted... quest and he'll be there. Taking along somebody ineligible for WiK? No Nick. Or, putting it another way, it rather seems that Nick is in the WiK version of Watchtower Coast, and no others. -- Splodge of Cat 19:00, 22 November 2010 (UTC)
- Just eligible for WiK doesn't work. I can spawn Nick with a Wanted quest. My friend has access to WiK content but hasn't done anything, not even unlocked LA Keep yet and she can't spawn Nick, but the Peacekeepers are on the map. The boss group in the spot were Nick's supposed to spawn as well is not present though. So it must have another WiK requirement, probably a Wanted quest for also those who are eligible for WiK. I wouldn't call this an anomaly but an outright bug as potentially a lot of players are excluded from Nick this week and I don't think that is the intention. I think Nick should spawn in Watchtower Coast regardless of WiK or stage of progression in WiK.--Fogeltje 21:06, 22 November 2010 (UTC)
- Yes, to see Nick, you must have any WiK related quest active in your log (including Wanted!/SBBs or A Good Deed). The boss group that overlaps with Nick has another set of requirements. I'm sure that ANet expected that Nick would instead spawn in Watchtower (normal) and not under WiK, which is the same behavior he displays everywhere else with conflicting quest spawns. — Tennessee Ernie Ford (TEF) 21:14, 22 November 2010 (UTC)
- Is there any reason to believe this isn't just a bug? It's currently marked as an Anomaly. I've raised a bug report on this on the Miscellaneous Feedback Page. Kirbett 22:18, 22 November 2010 (UTC)
- I have access to WiK and the A Good Deed quest is active and I can confirm that Nick still won't spawn there so yeah, bug indeed. Kougajin 22:28, 22 November 2010 (UTC)
- Bug is fair. Kougajin: your experience is different from mine. I have a friend with a toon that has finished EotN and the only possible WiK related quest she has is A Good Deed; the Watchtower spawns are WiK, not pre-WiK and Nicholas is present as well. Another toon on the same account (who has not take AGD) sees the original Caromi/Mergoyle foes and does not see Nick. Could you review your toon's quest log to see what else might be involved? What has your toon done to gain access? Maybe it's different from above and that makes the difference. Thanks. — Tennessee Ernie Ford (TEF) 01:14, 23 November 2010 (UTC)
I have several toons in various stages, some aren't eligble to do WiK, some have done some WiK, and some have completed WiK. The aren't eligibles, and those who've completed WiK (but have no wanted quests) can't get Nick to spawn. The ones who've done some WiK, but haven't finished it, even if they don't have an active quest, can get Nick to spawn. And those who have finished WiK, can only get Nick to show up with an active wanted quest.--Warzog Watch your six! 05:00, 23 November 2010 (UTC)
- I just tried with multiple toons: one which has done all up through the thackeray line and had wanted quest... (no Nick), another that had done up through thackeray with no wanted (No Nick), one who had just started WiK (NO Nick) and one which is incapable of getting WiK... (NO FRIGGEN NICK). Come on Anet, quit screwin up please. Or, if that's not an option, at least fix this particular screw-up. Captain Bulldozer 05:43, 23 November 2010 (UTC)
- Why would Nick be "in the past"? I actually find it cool. Markus Clouser 06:30, 23 November 2010 (UTC)
- OK, I was wrong above. I abandoned Good Deed and no WiK bosses, no Nick (but: Peacekeepers and SB allies). Re-acquired Deed and returned: same spawns (nothing new). Short story: it looks like you need an active SBB to spawn him at the moment.
- That strikes me as unintentional by ANet — everywhere else, Nick does not spawn when there are active local quests, but does when you drop them. Here, it's the opposite. — Tennessee Ernie Ford (TEF) 08:19, 23 November 2010 (UTC)
- Just visited him on all my 6 accounts (yeah I know, you don't need to tell me). He shows up in the WiK version of Watchtower regardless of having wanted quests active or not. --Manassas 08:46, 23 November 2010 (UTC)

- Well, you have to define "WiK" version; there's at least two. As I said, I could get PKs without Nick. (And of course, no WiK at all, no Nick at all either.) — Tennessee Ernie Ford (TEF) 09:23, 23 November 2010 (UTC)
- Agree with Ernie. I have a character who has completed Prophecies but other than that has not started WiK. I get random Peacekeeper spawns in Watchtower Coast, but no WiK bosses and no large groups of Peacekeepers, and Nick does not spawn Magua 09:34, 23 November 2010 (UTC)
- I had characters who had completed WiK but had an active Wanted quest (In order to spawn a WiK version of the instance) and he was there. I also had characters who hadn't completed WiK but had Wanted active and he spawned. Finally I had a character who had no Wanted quests and hadn't completed WiK either and he spawned. I think the only WiK version I haven't tried, is without a Wanted quest and without having access to LA keep yet. --Manassas 09:54, 23 November 2010 (UTC)

- That's consistent with my experience: all of the later WiKers (completed or nearly so) can get Nick; all of the early WiKers (just completed EotN, just started WiK, just found SB Camp) cannot see him. The triggering event might be access to the Keep or it might be completing the initial (required) 3 bounties; I don't think there are any other major events which can affect spawns. — Tennessee Ernie Ford (TEF) 11:32, 23 November 2010 (UTC)
- At least one of my chars have not completed the 3 first Wanted bosses but had Nicholas spawn, so my best guess is that access to LA Keep triggers him. --Manassas 11:46, 23 November 2010 (UTC)
- I hauled my storage acct char to nick with my norm acct char that has WiK. I wanted to see if he'd spawn with a char in the party that has WiK and with one that doesn't and sure enough he doesn't. After reading everyone's trials it appears he only spawns when there is a perfect recipe of active quests/finished quests/w.e. Obviously his spawns are not tested before his Monday move.

Tis true. I only have prophecies and I went out and checked and Nick is there now. :) Jaida
Is it odd for peacekeepers to show up when I do not have EoTN at all? One of my accounts is experiencing this, just found it odd. Raminator Chick
- Big thanks to Anet for fixing this. @ Raminator_Chick, not that is not weird. If you have finished Prophecies you unlock the first WiK content. However without EotN you won't be able to progress.--Fogeltje 11:31, 24 November 2010 (UTC)
- No what I'm saying is my one account that does not have EoTN still has peacekeepers showing up. I didn't think that would be possible without having the WiK activated and not having completed Prophecies. Either way I found it odd that peacekeepers still showed up when they shouldn't have. Raminator Chick 07:16, 25 November 2010 (UTC)

^ ^Thats assuming people have any trade contracts left after the mad scramble to trade them in for gems for Vabbian armour after the HoM calculator update. If I have to run around to do more quests for trade contracts (assumming I even have any left) I'd might as well stay in 'Holding of Chohkin' and prune some plants. Wrei110.175.241.56 12:13, 28 December 2010 (UTC)
- Also wrongly assuming that everyone sells all of their gott or the items received within. Clobimon Craiggy 17:41, 28 December 2010 (UTC)
- The numbers are in response to trade contracts are way too valuable [to use on vabbian wine] — that's clearly not true for people who sell traveler's gifts. It's even less true for people who don't sell them because, just as clearly, non-sellers value gott even more than the market does. (To test that proposition, ask those who don't sell them if they would sell 5 gott for 100 ectos... or a mini Yak or... Since the answer is going to be yes, we know that we are just haggling over the price; that establishes that 5k is too low for non-sellers and that some higher price would be enough.)
- However, monetary value is only one factor in decision making: just because trade contracts are demonstrably worth more this week if devoted to gott doesn't mean that any particular person should use them for that purpose. — Tennessee Ernie Ford (TEF) 18:24, 28 December 2010 (UTC)
- 20k-12k for Ruby/Saph =8k gain. It's still a gain, but a much smaller gain than simply farming. 24.118.99.65 17:21, 30 December 2010 (UTC)
Template for location
The main page uses a template to show Nick's current location. Is there some special reason why we require this page to be manually updated? (At the moment, two pages need to be updated every week; we could change that to one; see Guild Wiki's solution.) — Tennessee Ernie Ford (TEF) 20:10, 27 December 2010 (UTC)
- You suggest that when the article about Nic is edited, the front pages picks up on it automatically? Even though only registered users can edit the article itself, that functionality in combination with the 'hotness' of the information, would make it an awfully attractive target for trolls. Since wiki is maintained mostly by players and not by Anet staff, I think it would be best that the wiki's main page only reflects the new info after it has been confirmed. Disconnect 21:54, 27 December 2010 (UTC)
- I believe TEF was looking for Nicholas the Traveler/Research to update both the mainpage and the NPC page, instead of just the former. I may be wrong, as this headache has made me delusional. G R E E N E R 22:21, 27 December 2010 (UTC)
- What Greener said: I'm recommending that we should only need to update the research page (which is semi-protected) to update both the main page and this one. Currently, updating the research page updates Main (but not Nick's article). — Tennessee Ernie Ford (TEF) 22:47, 27 December 2010 (UTC)

- They are in fact super useful, and besides anybody with a registered account can upload a better version if they think they can do better. Beleeth 05:33, 29 December 2010 (UTC)
- Ramei: I agree that maps would be better with labels. If you don't have a good image editor (as many of us do not), you could update the caption for the map(s). I usually add text identifying the starting and ending locations, e.g. Path to Nick from Kodash Bazaar. — Tennessee Ernie Ford (TEF) 06:08, 29 December 2010 (UTC)
