Nightfall Treasures Fail to Appear

Yes, My question is, I have my primary character is an elem. which has beaten the Nightfall part of the game. I did a treasure run and obtained all the treasures the end of September 2011. I waited approximately 35 days till the first of November 2011 and tried again. The treasures said, 'You find nothing here.' So I waited and again tried on January 2nd 2012, and still received the same message almost 60 days later. It is my understanding that the treasures reset in approx. 30 days, so what could be the reason for the treasures failure to spawn? I also have another character, an assasian, which has allowed me to obtian treasures from in Oct. 2011, and also in Nov. 2011 so I am unsure why one of my character's can and the other can not. I did file a trouble ticket on the ncsoft website back in NOv. when the error occured but got no response from anyone. Is this a known issue? Please let me know. Thanks a million.

AFAIK, there's no known issue with NF treasures failing to yield. In the past, every claim of "they appear for Toon A, but not Toon B," that could be researched turned out to be someone misremembering who visited what. But there are plenty of claims where the person wasn't meticulous about documenting visits, so it's hard to know what did/didn't happen.
According to Joe Kimmes, it's character-based: nothing you do with one character affects the treasures for any others. So the only question is: are you sure that you didn't visit sooner than 30/35 days with your primary? If you are, I would (a) create a ticket and (b) repost at the forums (referencing the ticket). In the forum, keep your account information out. (That's what the ticket is for.) The support team will investigate. I don't know if they can tell about past visits, but they should be able to identify the most recent ones for each treasure...and they might share that info with you, so that, at worst, you know when to try again next.
If you want, you can use {{Treasure}} on the wiki to document your visits (if you don't want to register, I'd be happy to setup a page in my user space for you to do that). (Another tool can be found at User:Wynthyst/Tools.) That doesn't address what happened in Nov 2011 or Jan 2012, but it would help prevent an issue in February. Good luck and let us know what you find out from ANet. – Tennessee Ernie Ford (TEF) 09:22, 3 January 2012 (UTC)
Thanks Tennessee, I created a user account on Wiki, and I am going to track it using the Tressure template u listed. I am however, no sure "how" to use the template. HELP!!!!! Can u tell me how to utilize the template? Also, i do know on my primary toon that I haven't accessed some of treasures for over 60 days and i had been keeping track, but just to ensure i am going to set u p a template and try again once i have it setup and wait 35 days before trying to access them again. If I am STILL unable to access them, then I will file another ticket and list it here, should i create a new question or just modify this one? Thanks again for all your help. --Laradcroft 07:05, 4 January 2012 (UTC)Jodie
I've created a page in your user space to track this, User:Laradcroft/Treasures. (I'll provide comments about modifying it on its talk page.) It's initialized with today's date, which is as good as any to start with (if you're willing to wait a few extra days just to be sure), but you can modify it to use different dates.
If you are still unable to gain treasures on one of the toons, then (a) contact Support (via email or their online tool) and (b) create a note at the official forums (under game bugs). The first should have the personal info (toon names, dates), the second should be more generic and include the ticket number. Tickets are handled by the support crew and bugs are addressed by the programmers, so you'll get both types of staffers taking a look. You can point them to your treasure page, so that they know you've been meticulous about tracking (that will also help them see what's going on).
Good luck. (PS Tennessee is the stately adjective modifying the name, Ernie Ford, but most ppls just call me, TEF)Tennessee Ernie Ford (TEF) 07:54, 4 January 2012 (UTC)
UPDATE: I have discovered that if I access ANY treasure in NF before the 30 day period is up, that ALL the treasures become unavailable to me on that particular toon. I tested this theory, and it seemed to hold true with several characters. I therefore use the treasure tracking template (listed above) to track the dates I access treasures for each toon. I wait a min of 33 days and have not had any further issues. Thanks again for all your help. Laradcroft 08:11, 19 February 2012 (UTC)

Talk to one of the Travel NPCs (Tyrian if it's a Prophecies character, Canthan if Factions, or Elonian if Nightfall) and ask to go to the earliest outpost in the first zone. Sardaukar User Sardaukar sig.png 10:50, 3 January 2012 (UTC)

What exactly is the problem? Simply asking for help with no details doesn't get you anywhere. ~FarloUser Farlo Triad.pngTalk 18:55, 3 January 2012 (UTC)
Well he linked right to it. The Am Fah aren't hostile to him but he doesn't have any of the relevant quests and Tosai acts as though he hasn't drunk the Chalice even though he doesn't have it.
There is a bug listed on the Seek out Brother Tosai page and talk page which documents the quest not completing properly as it sometimes doesn't show in the quest log or can't be retaken after being abandoned. If this seems similar to what you're experiencing, I would report it on the support forums. --ஸ Kyoshi User Kyoshi sig2.png 14:34, 4 January 2012 (UTC)

cap level

how can i continue leveling after i've reacved the cap level which is level 21? (sorry for the grammar--77.204.29.143 21:52, 4 January 2012 (UTC))

The Level 20 cap is as far as you need to go. Additional experience gains you skill points, which are required to learn new skills and there are few other uses for Xp besides that. However, in GW, having access to the right skills matters, especially if you use heroes. Also make sure you have completed the relevant attribute point quests, which together add 30 attribute points to your toon; those also matter as much (if not more) than your character's level. – Tennessee Ernie Ford (TEF) 21:59, 4 January 2012 (UTC)

Knowing when pets level up

Im trying to level up my white jingle moa but i cant seem to get him/her past level 18 elder, i cant death level properly, and i don't have the resourses to pay the Zaishen to unlock the higher levels.

is there any way to see the amount of exp required to level it up as well as the amount already gained, like an emote or item?

--Divine kid 04:14, 6 January 2012 (UTC)

Short story: no, there's no way to know how much XP your pet needs to gain a level. Death leveling is (theoretically) easy: can you explain why it's not working for you? Maybe we can help you set that up (once you can do it for one pet, it takes no more than 6-8 minutes per pet to fully evolve them).
Alternatively, just take the pet with you where ever you go and eventually, they'll hit L20. (Remember to take them to the Pet Tamer at the zoo so you can (a) check that you have unlocked all evolutions and (b) make them available for heroes, other characters, etc.) – Tennessee Ernie Ford (TEF) 04:26, 6 January 2012 (UTC)

I have All the Elet skill and all Skill but still do not have title I bought most of my skill through The Prist of Balthazae for all of my Hero's and Me so why no title or whow do I get Title Ty--Rob hoover 23:55, 6 January 2012 (UTC)

I suppose you are talking about the Skill Hunter titles. When you buy an elite skill from the Priest of Balthazar, you unlock it. This means your heroes and your PvP characters can use them. However, for the title, you need to learn all the skills on your PvE character. This means that you have to use elite tomes to learn the unlocked skills, or capture them from bosses. In short, unlocking from a Priest of Balthazar is not enough, you have to learn them. User Judas Sig.pngudas 00:44, 7 January 2012 (UTC)

If the Elite is in your Skillaree(K) and U can Use that elite Skill Your PC or Hero's the shoul that Elite skill be counted Tword the Skill Title. And How do Youuse a tome for Your Hero's Thanks Rob Hoover--Rob hoover 03:07, 8 January 2012 (UTC)

If I'm understanding you correctly, in order for the Elite to count towards the Skill Hunter title, that character must learn it. In other words, that character must be able to equip the skill. Learning a skill on any character unlocks it for all heroes on all characters, but not for the other characters themselves. You cannot use a skill tome for your heroes, but as I said, if you use it on yourself, your heroes will be able to use the skill as well. Check out Skill and Unlock for more details, and good luck with the title. ~FarloUser Farlo Triad.pngTalk 03:51, 8 January 2012 (UTC)

Adjacent Melee Attack bug

For a while I have noticed this issue hasn't been fully addressed. After getting upset with this adjacent melee attack being exploited in PvP (especially on AB Ancestral lands) I looked at where else this bug can occur.

I don't know what the proper name for this bug is but I will attempt to describe it and conditions for breaking expected game results:

Player A is standing adjacent to Enemy B There is a solid surface between A and B, or some height difference which would normally cause Player A not be able to Melee B. Player A is still able to Melee attack B. Enemy B is able to Melee attack Player A.

Now normally people would say "Oh, that is a bug, unintentional" But since both Player A and Enemy B can attack each other, is this really a problem? That being said, if I went back to AB I would report anyone who utilizes this (as I mainly play ranged classes) as exploiting.

The question is, if this is not intended as an actual game play mechanic, is using it exploiting? Can I report players using this in both PvE and PvP without being at risk for over-reporting? What can we call this bug so that we can make a page, or I can find the page, to document this issue? 66.135.236.42 22:24, 11 January 2012 (UTC)

Guild Wars does not have a very... accurate hight map shall we say. Meaning that if 2 people are miles above each other they're still able to fight if their X and Y coordinates allow it. Similarly, walls, bridges and other stuff won't block these attacks, only projectiles and walking take walls into account. This isn't a bug, at least not in a usual sense of the word. It's just the way Guild Wars was coded from day one and fixing this would require huge code rewrites probably. If ArenaNet could fix it or considered it a problem it would have been fixed already. f it's not fixed by now it probably never will be. Roar! Poki#3 (talk) 23:30, 11 January 2012 (UTC)
Thanks for the quick reply. I don't feel Anet should fix the issue, I just want to know what I can do about it. Can/should I report people for "exploiting" due to them using this issue? Should we document this issue on this Wiki, if not already, and what shall we call it?66.135.236.42 00:59, 12 January 2012 (UTC)
It's already pretty much documented, though I don't remember where. It's not exploitation though, it's just how the game works. --ஸ Kyoshi User Kyoshi sig2.png 07:15, 12 January 2012 (UTC)
The Z-axis is a work of fiction. It's always been this way. For a while, using Consume Corpse on a body beneath a bridge would teleport you on top of the bridge. This is a bug, but it's one that can't be fixed because the engine just isn't equipped to handle it. Look on the bright side: if you kill stuff standing above you, you can pick up your loot without climbing upstairs. –Jette 15:05, 12 January 2012 (UTC)
Ah found that article Z-axis, Just started thought it was exploitable with a melee, and a ranged character couldn't benefit thus making it unfair use of game mechanics. It's even listed as a common tactic in PvP. But still I want the last answer for my original question, can a person / player using this particular "hole" in the game mechanics be cited for exploiting. Sorry to be so demanding on this, but I'm the type of person who likes well defined laws, such as those regarding J-walking. And being the strait arrow I am, I won't use this tactic in either PvE or PvP if this is indeed exploiting.66.135.236.42 21:03, 12 January 2012 (UTC)
I've never heard of anyone being punished for this "bug" and it'd be absurd of ANet to ban you just for that. The only way you'd get into trouble is if doing it somehow leads to another exploit, and even then you'd probably have to be reported multiple times before they considered your activities "malicious". Jumping up bridges and stuff like that isn't going to get you banned, unless you somehow stuck yourself in a wall multiple times to grief people in PvP or something like that. If you want a direct quote from ANet, I'd post on the forums and see if Gaile comments. ~FarloUser Farlo Triad.pngTalk 21:34, 12 January 2012 (UTC)

"Oldschool" refers to weapon drops in the Prophecies and Factions campaigns. They don't have an inscription slot, and you can get combinations of item bonuses that aren't possible with the newer-style drops in Nightfall and EotN. -- Hong 10:50, 16 January 2012 (UTC)

Strange damage bug

moved from Guild Wars Wiki talk:Reporting wiki bugs

Hi, I am a bit confused - lately I die quite often in hard mode when taking strange high dmg with no source displayed - ie 200-400 dmg - one hit kill from full health-bar. (assassin-Rragar Menagerie)... Confused very much - almost so much as the bug i typed before - i get no heal from monks until they let me die and resurect... then they start to heal properly... No more fun to play, only anger...--Calixos 20:17, 17 January 2012 (UTC)

Hard mode enemies deal high damage even if they don't use skills. Make sure you're wearing max armor (not a 600 set, for instance), and try to see if the damage is coming from a boss. Bosses deal double damage, and that damage isn't listed in the sidebar.
Heroes are slow to respond. Sometimes they wait too long to heal, or use their skills badly and run out of energy. Try using some builds from PvX and see if you do better.
P.S. – Your English isn't too bad, but you should work on your object-predicate relationships. –Jette 21:01, 17 January 2012 (UTC)
You might have been killed by a Boulder, which appear in the dungeon you mentioned (Rragar's Menagerie). --Silver Edge 20:33, 20 January 2012 (UTC)
(I think there are no boulders in Rragar's Menagerie silver). You mentioned that you were using an assassin, I'd recommend keeping Dark Escape up. The Fleshreaver paragons can hit easily for 200 damage in Hm with regular attacks. (The Charr Warden's burning arrow has been known to hit for 300+ damage + burning.), also the end bosses hit very hard with regular wanding, especially Hidesplitter. File:User Chieftain Alex Chieftain Signature.jpg Chieftain Alex 21:16, 20 January 2012 (UTC)
I'm not entirely certain if there are boulders in that dungeon. I assumed there was since the quest page for that dungeon mentions: "As you enter and head left, a group of Charr will run away, unleashing two Boulders and closing a large gate." --Silver Edge 21:28, 20 January 2012 (UTC)

Guild Alliances

anyone who has the gw game factions and have gone far enough into it or belong to a guild with it would know about Alliances, right? well i have a guild and my mom has a guild and we will eventually have an alliance, but before we do that i have an important question, can a Luxon Allied guild and a Kurick Allied guild be part of the same Alliance? --Divine kid 05:27, 22 January 2012 (UTC)

Nope. In order to form an alliance together, both guilds must be allied with the same faction (Luxon or Kurzick). It's easy enough to switch though, just talk to one of the ambassadors in Cavalon or House zu Heltzer and they'll charge 500g for the switch. ~FarloUser Farlo Triad.pngTalk 05:49, 22 January 2012 (UTC)

Pretty much. Go ahead and try it if you want, won't cost more than a couple platinum. ~FarloUser Farlo Triad.pngTalk 23:25, 22 January 2012 (UTC)
I think he's talking about those alliances that have almost the same name on Luxon and Kurz side (and same tag) and are technically "aligned," where aligned means they are led by people who know eachother. Or something. I can't remember the tag atm but I think it might be [KISS] and some other people. But that's not really an official in-game alliance... --Dragon Nataku talk to me 16:34, 24 January 2012 (UTC)
Yeah, [KISS] has twenty guilds, split into two alliances, one of each faction (iirc). So while they may share a Ventrilo server or forums or a website, they're not "allied" for the purposes of the game mechanic that determines which faction a player donates to his/her guild/alliance. --ஸ Kyoshi User Kyoshi sig2.png 18:23, 24 January 2012 (UTC)

See Command_line_arguments#-image.
Basically, you create a copy of the guildwars shortcut, and go to properties. In "Target", go to the end of the string showing the location of the programme, and type "-image". Press OK and then you should rename the shortcut something like "Guild Wars Imager". Double clicking will make it download all the files from scratch, resulting in a compact 4Gb of data. After imaging, you should still click the normal unchanged shortcut to boot guild wars, otherwise you'll end up downloading everything again :P File:User Chieftain Alex Chieftain Signature.jpg Chieftain Alex 15:04, 23 January 2012 (UTC)

Game Demo & other questions

I have been playing Guild Wars Demo and have a couple questions. I think I am going to like the game so I'm going to buy it but before I do I'm wondering if the upcoming Guild Wars 2 release would be a wiser choice. My question is, Will Guild Wars 2 be a standalone game that can be played without any prior leveling from the original game?

My other question is more general. Apparently there are several versions of the game. Would you be able to recommend which one would be the best for a first time Guild Wars player. I have experience playing RPG's and Lotro but I have only played the Demo for Guild Wars. Also, when I go to the Store from the in-game Demo menu it shows the games but makes no mention of other fees. Are there any?--Fredrock46 12:34, 26 January 2012 (UTC)

I'm pretty sure that gw2 will be standalone - you won't gain any levels from gw1. The GW2 page has some details on this transition/unlocking of items for gw2 via the hall of monument (needs the Eye of the North expansion [EotN]) - from what I can tell most of these benefits seem to be purely cosmetic...
I can't really recommend any particular one of the three campaigns, each person enjoys a different one. I can however tell you that there are no fees beyond initially buying the campaigns (no monthly fees) File:User Chieftain Alex Chieftain Signature.jpg Chieftain Alex 15:19, 26 January 2012 (UTC)
I'll note that the demo you have is most likely a demo o the first campaign: Prophecies. If you'd like to continue playing the same character you'll have to buy the same campaign that the character was created in. If you buy a different campaign, your demo character will be locked and unusable until you own the right campaign and you'll have to create a new character.
That aside, what campaign to get? Personally I would recommend starting with Prophecies, however you're a little more likely to encounter players in Nightfall. Ultimately it's not that important unless you want to make a character of a specific profession. There is an overarching story that benefits a bit if you play the games chronologically, but it's minor (and each campaigns main story is very much stand alone). Just make sure to not get EotN first as that is an expansion and requires you to own a campaign already. Roar! Poki#3 (talk) 19:47, 26 January 2012 (UTC)
Guild Wars 2 doesn't even have a release date yet (aside from "this year") and is just now starting it's Beta rounds, so unless you're really strapped for cash there's no reason to wait.
I'd recommend getting the Trilogy pack from the NCSoft Store or off of Steam, it includes all three games (excludes the Eye of the North expansion) for only $30 USD. Then you don't have to worry about which one to get and if you really like the game, you can buy the expansion on top for $20. Unfortunately you can't earn rewards towards GW2 without the EotN expansion, but you can play the other games and then unlock your rewards whenever you decide to purchase it, so there's no need to buy it immediately. Good luck and enjoy the game! ~FarloUser Farlo Triad.pngTalk 19:54, 26 January 2012 (UTC)

Regarding Luxon Factions

Can you explain exactly what contributing factions to raise the reputation of your alliance actually does? How many factions should a player be contributing to his alliance? I have never really understoon this part of the game. A little clarity on this subject would be greatly apreciated. Thanks!99.177.254.78 04:31, 27 January 2012 (UTC)

What you do with the faction you earn is entirely up to you. With it you can buy up to 20 Allegiance skills, one per faction for each profession, buy Amber Chunks/Jadeite Shards, or donate it to your alliance. Using your faction contributes towards the respective Allegiance rank title.
The first benefit of donating to your alliance is that twice the points you donate are added to the title. (E.g. Donating 5k to your alliance rewards you with 10k towards the title.) Second, if your alliance has enough faction you'll "own" one of the towns on the World Map and you can get a 10% discount from the merchant. A lot more specific information can be found on the Wiki by doing a little searching. ~FarloUser Farlo Triad.pngTalk 04:50, 27 January 2012 (UTC)
Either to Luxons or Kurzicks. Reputation is an in-game description. What alliances need is to up-keep a certain value which varies from time to time and guild to guild. The amount of points each guild in an alliance holds suffers a daily 10% tax. Some guilds will require its members a specific amount, others not at all. Players can choose to comply with the conditions for membership and then leave such guild after maximazing their respective title track. Donations are needed for those alliances that want to benefit from the Discount Merchant only. Not all alliances have this goal. User Yoshida Keiji Signature.jpg Yoshida Keiji talk 05:00, 27 January 2012 (UTC)
Ermm...wait a moment Farlo... The discount merchant doesnt exactly sell everything 10% cheaper. These are the values you must pay for the cheaper goods: Luxon_Merchant or Kurzick_Merchant. User Yoshida Keiji Signature.jpg Yoshida Keiji talk 05:06, 27 January 2012 (UTC)
TL;DR version: Ask your guild/alliance if they care about donating faction. If they do, donate it. If they don't, do whatever you want with it. --Dragon Nataku talk to me 19:12, 27 January 2012 (UTC)

That is the Ahmtur Arena. It's quite pretty, but inaccessible unless you're a developer. It was cut from the game before release, but never quite removed. Don't worry, that area isn't counted for cartography or any other titles. I have suspicions that when Guild Wars Beyond rolls around to Elona, it will get used for some mini-mission or similar quest, but that's pure speculation based on what the developers have done before (recycling content is always easier than making it). –Jette 16:14, 28 January 2012 (UTC)

Nightfall AND Prophecies?

If I got the night fall and I play that campain and when I get the 1st cd the Prophecies can I still play that part of the game with my Nightfall char? --The preceding unsigned comment was added by 184.98.28.43 (talk) at 02:54, 29 January 2012 (UTC).

Yes, you can move between campaigns using Campaign travel as many times as you like. (You would add the Prophecies access key to the Nightfall account you already had via the login menu) File:User Chieftain Alex Chieftain Signature.jpg Chieftain Alex 02:00, 29 January 2012 (UTC)
Just note that travel between campaigns only becomes available after certain points in the storyline, and not immediately after you add the CD key to your account. For more details, please see the link Alex posted above. --Dragon Nataku talk to me 18:15, 29 January 2012 (UTC)
