Odd question.
Are registered trademarked images allowed to be hosted under public domain? As that image is a registered trademark of Canada and might not be released under GFDL/public domain. Dominator Matrix 17:09, 1 September 2008 (UTC)
- When were flags registered trademarks of their country? You sure about that? -- Indochine talk 17:15, 1 September 2008 (UTC)
- Since the department of Canadian Heritage and [1]. Dominator Matrix 17:18, 1 September 2008 (UTC)
- You have to carefully consider the distinction between copyright and trademarks when thinking about stuff like this. You also have to consider jurisdiction. Yes, flags are trademarks of their respective countries, but because they have no real authorship (no single person owns them) they cannot be copyrighted, and therefore are in the public domain respective to copyright (that is, after all, basically the definition), but may not be in the public domain for trademarks. Furthermore, depending on your country, there may be legislation unconnected with copyright or trademarks restricting the use of flags (this is true in the US and UK - they cannot be defamed, for example). In general, however, worrying about copyright for something like a flag, so long as you're using it in a respectful manner, is utterly pointless. Ale_Jrb (talk) 17:19, 1 September 2008 (UTC)
- Since the department of Canadian Heritage and [1]. Dominator Matrix 17:18, 1 September 2008 (UTC)
(Reset indent) (Edit conflict) If you read it fully it also mentions foreign trademarks. Dominator Matrix 17:44, 1 September 2008 (UTC)
- Interesting - no, I had't read that. Nonetheless, all these tangents have confused the issue. Flags cannot be copyrighted, because copyright does not govern signs and symbols - only expressions of an idea. Therefore the flag is trademarked, an important distinction that means two things. Firstly, the license on this site, the GFDL, does not govern the use of trademarks - so licensing is irrelevant. Secondly, is the issue of trademarks and generics. Wikipedia puts it well - if a mark becomes synonymous with that product or service to the extent that the trademark owner can no longer enforce its proprietary rights, the mark becomes generic. This applies here - the flag of Canada, and even the word 'Canada' itself, are totally synonymous with the country. This means that if you are talking (or in this case writing) about Canada, the Canadian government cannot prevent you from doing so because it is their 'trademark', because it is basically the sole manner of referring to the 'political and geographical area, and its inhabitants' in question. Ale_Jrb (talk) 18:10, 1 September 2008 (UTC)
- Furthermore, I'll direct you to the paragraph in question which says, The countries of the Union agree to refuse or to invalidate the registration, and to prohibit by appropriate measures the use, without authorization by the competent authorities, either as trademarks or as elements of trademarks, of armorial bearings, flags, and other State emblems... - of course, the wiki is not using it as part of a trademark, or implying that the wiki is Canadian, and as such the jurisdiction again returns to the US and the US public domain, Ale_Jrb (talk) 18:13, 1 September 2008 (UTC)
I'm puzzled
Look at Special:Doubleredirects. I'm puzzled by the one there. --People of Antioch 20:25, 1 September 2008 (UTC)
- That's the wiki's autodetection for redirect loops. #3 redirects to #3 so everything that redirects to #3 is in the same loop. poke | talk 20:29, 1 September 2008 (UTC)
- Changed that, it worked for everything. Hope it works out okay. --People of Antioch 20:32, 1 September 2008 (UTC)
Delete template question
Hey Poke the last little while (as in not sure when it started) I've noticed an issue with the delete template; in particular the page history link. Maybe this would be better placed on the actual templates talk page but then that wouldn't cause you to get the new message box :P
Anyway the link on the template on this page for example, links to this whereas the actual link should be this; the only difference is the extra www. but it causes me to not be logged in. Weird thing is it doesn't seem to happen to every image/article that gets the delete template added to it, just seems to happen on random pages at random times. Not sure if there is anything that could be done to fix it and I can always just use the normal history tab anyway. --Kakarot 21:20, 1 September 2008 (UTC)
- Ah, I see - fixed :) Btw. I have all those templates on my watchlist, so I would see it within a short while :P poke | talk 21:23, 1 September 2008 (UTC)

Ummm... hi?`
I just got unbanned... and have a question. Why the hell was I banned in the first place? I didn't have any warnings or anything. I just tried to edit my user page and it said "-your IP has been blocked by Poke:" and I have no f-cking clue what I did wrong. So please tell me, With no warning at ALL, how was I banned, and why? Even trolls and people that replace someones whole user page with "FUCK YOU" or replace my pictures with mud kips only get a warning. So what the hell did I honestly do wrong that warranted a 24 hour ban. Thanks.--'ÑöẊĭƑý 19:37, 2 September 2008 (UTC)
- You were unbanned 3 minutes after you were banned (Poke explains why on my talk page -- he didn't see your comment there before he banned you). The notice on Izzy's talk page explains why you were banned. -- Brains12 \ talk 19:45, 2 September 2008 (UTC)
- By the way, if the warnings to the people that vandalised your userpage stopped them from repeating it, there would be no need for a ban. If they carried on, they'd be banned in order to forcefully prevent them from repeating it (and if I remember correctly, some were banned). -- Brains12 \ talk 19:48, 2 September 2008 (UTC)
Well, someone sucks at wiking because I was banned all night, and up until 30minutes ago. It kept saying: "-Autoblocked, this IP was recently used by user NoXiFY, start: (the current time) end: (the current time)" It was really fucking stupid. --'ÑöẊĭƑý 19:50, 2 September 2008 (UTC)
- Also, I still don't see what was wrong with my section. It was just a note saying that he should look at rangers. Whats wrong with that? Stop being nazi's and read what I posted before deleting it.--'ÑöẊĭƑý 19:52, 2 September 2008 (UTC)
- (Edit conflict) Your block log shows when you were unbanned. I assume the software messed up.
- You might want to read what I posted (i.e. the notice) before you posted something that obviously didn't belong on that talk page (again, reasons are on my talk page). -- Brains12 \ talk 19:57, 2 September 2008 (UTC)
- (Edit conflict) http://wiki.guildwars.com/wiki/User_talk:Izzy#Important_notice especially the part where it says "nor is it the place to post links pointing to each issue.". All you did was post a link. They look through popular threads and they consider the players' advice and suggestions.
- You being banned was probably a wiki error, and not caused by Poke. -- Mini Me 19:59, 2 September 2008 (UTC)
- To be fair, I added that later on in response to several users just posting links to places where it's assumed ArenaNet already read. Nevertheless, the reasons are the same -- again, those are on my talk page. -- Brains12 \ talk 20:08, 2 September 2008 (UTC)

- The autoblock basically automatically blocks the last IP you used and then autoblocks any IP you try to edit from for 24 hours, and IPs that are autoblocked also prevent logged-in users from editing from them. So what happened is when you were unblocked, your IP (which had been autoblocked) was not unblocked, probably because poke didn't realize it had been blocked in the first place. Sending him an email or asking an admin to unblock it on IRC would have worked. ¬ Wizårdbõÿ777(talk) 21:42, 2 September 2008 (UTC)

How much?
How much would it take to get inactive guild added to GWWT? At least temporarily to get through the mountainous list?-- Wyn 09:36, 3 September 2008 (UTC)
- Perhaps a bot run would be better? Go through pages in the guild namespace, check for edits and the tag, and if they're not there, add one. If there's a large list, that might be the best way forward. Ale_Jrb (talk) 15:32, 3 September 2008 (UTC)
- No that has already been discussed and rejected because there are too many variables at this time due to the changes in the Guild page policy. -- Wyn 17:00, 3 September 2008 (UTC)

- Well, to be fair here, my original post was 8 hrs ago...... -- Wyn 17:21, 3 September 2008 (UTC)
- Intriguing. How large was the list, and where is the discussion? I looked at the guild page, and it doesn't seem hugely problematic to apply the first one automatically, even if the historical guild then has to be maintained manually. Ale_Jrb (talk) 17:31, 3 September 2008 (UTC)
- Due to changes in the guild page policy you can't just blanket tag the guilds that have not had an edit in 3 months as inactive. They need to be checked for minimum content, for possible language translation, not to mention the need to check for activity on forums, etc. Currently the list to be tagged is over 500, how far over is impossible to tell since that is the limit of dpl lists Guild Wars Wiki:List of inactive guilds.-- Wyn 17:37, 3 September 2008 (UTC)
- I can't find the minimum content clause, of language translation clause, in the 'Historical content' section of the policy (that covers the tag). Perhaps the policy could be streamlined to help prevent such an unapproachable build up (500!? eeeek!)... maybe, the first tag could be applied as more of a warning rather than saying it's actually inactive (e.g. 'It is believed that this guild is inactive, as the wiki page has not been edited for over 3 months. If you know the guild is active, please remove this tag.') and then another tag applied later? Also, I noticed a discrepancy. The policy requires a guild to have been disbanded to get a historical tag, but the {tl|Inactive guild}} template says it will simply be added if the guild is not edited for a further three months. What happens if the guild is inactive but still exists? :O Does the inactive tag (that states it will be tagged) simply remain there? Hmmm... Ale_Jrb (talk) 17:52, 3 September 2008 (UTC)
- The minimum content requirements were added with the revisions to the policy that were implemented on 8/8/08. The revisions are also the cause of the mountainous list, as the time frames were changed from 6 months of no edits to 3 months. The language translations need to be done prior to archiving, if for no other reason than it postpones the need for archiving for an additional 3 months. Trust me, this is just the pain involved due to the recent changes and will be alleviated once this initial pile can be gotten through. I am not going to completely explain the guild page policy here, there is plenty of discussion regarding it on the policy talk page, or if you have questions you don't see the answers to, ask them there, or on my talk page :D -- Wyn 17:58, 3 September 2008 (UTC)
- I was actually saying that the minimum content and language clauses are totally unrelated to the inactive guild tag :P. A bad page that is tagged as inactive is just as likely to be spotted and subsequently tagged for cleanup as a non-inactive tagged guild. And the forum activity is something I wouldn't have supported anyway, but it doesn't matter. Just saying it would be much easier for those currently involved in tagging them... *dum dum de dum* :P. I'll get off poke's talk page now :D. Ale_Jrb (talk) 18:08, 3 September 2008 (UTC)

About Image:The watchmen.jpg
I uploaded the image thinking it was of them, then found a similar image for The Bone Spires, so I tagged it with the Delete tag (using GWWT, but it didn't allow me to provide the correct reason and added it twice before I finally added it properly). If you or any other authority figure decides it needs deleting please don't hesitate to do so, as I'm unsure if it is correct or not. — Cloud Xan 19:33, 7 September 2008 (UTC) (n.b.: sorry about the link format, I don't know how to link to an image without displaying the image itself)
- Well, I removed the deletion tag, as your reason was it being orphaned, but it is actually used on the Watchmen page, so as long as it used there, I won't delete it because of it being orphaned ;) If you find a better image for that page, feel free to upload it. (for the image link, see the title now on how to link without displaying) poke | talk 19:36, 7 September 2008 (UTC)

RCNew/WatchNew
how about a jscript that automatically refreshes rc or watchlist every x minutes? - Y0_ich_halt 09:27, 8 September 2008 (UTC)
- Adding the following code to your monobook.js will refresh recent changes/your watchlist every 5 seconds (the timing is in ms, so just change the 5 to alter the time).
if ((wgPageName == 'Special:Recentchanges') || (wgPageName == 'Special:Watchlist')) { setTimeout('window.location = window.location.href;', 5000); }

Weapon infobox
Hey, there seems to be a problem with the info boxes. Right now, a lot of the items show "Unique Unique Staff" or whatever weapon it is. However, removing the unique from the type drops it from the category. So, should I remove the unique from the type or the "unique = y" or does the template need to be fixed? --JonTheMon 16:08, 8 September 2008 (UTC)

- It was broken, as in if you typed "type=Unique staff" it put out Unique unique staff but categorised. type=Staff showed fine, but didn't categorise=broken (not configured correctly). I reverted it, so I really hope it's working now :P - anja 16:29, 8 September 2008 (UTC)

Very odd question
I'm composing a draft for the format section, and I need to see the code for the skill pages template, the ones we use in the main space articles. I know you are very experienced in coding and what not, and I was wondering if you could find the code for it, not the template.
If you don't want to clutter up your page here, you can post it on my talk or in my sandboc. Thanks a lot! -- NUKLEAR IIV 20:59, 12 September 2008 (UTC)
- I'm not really sure what you want, as a formatting guide already exists for skill pages and also lists the infobox there. And for the rest of the parameters, the template page should give all details in the description. poke | talk 22:48, 12 September 2008 (UTC)

- C# is fine; take a look at the System.Net namespace on how you can build up connections etc., especially the HttpWebRequest class should be the one you need. You basically simply have to imitate a user with his browser. poke | talk 20:40, 27 September 2008 (UTC)

- Just ask if you need any help; I'm not that experienced with C# yet but I recently started working more with it, so I might be able to help :P - Also the bad thing about using C# for a wikibot is that you actually need to compile the code each time you want to change what the bot does, so when you have everything working, I suggest you create a separate framework (as a class or maybe even as an external dll!) that automatically does the required things like building up a connection and actually communicates with the wiki, so that you only need to include that and can work with the bot with short commands (for example
wiki.savePage( 'Title', 'Text' )
or something like that). That will save up a lot work :) poke | talk 20:48, 27 September 2008 (UTC)- ...come to think of it, i might end up reprogramming awb o.O - Y0_ich_halt 20:49, 27 September 2008 (UTC)
- I would recommend more a basic command line application which you can easily change instead of a complex program that actually uses a browser which has to load the full html files and that requires some kind of user interface that allows you to add all possibilites of actions you can do on a wiki... poke | talk 20:53, 27 September 2008 (UTC)

- The GTTF was never thought for working on wiki content. It was a project made to improve the game. Also there is no need to have a project for guild translations, it is not something that has to be done, more something that guild page creaters have to think of if they want to keep the pages on the wiki. If you want to help translating guild pages, use the translation needed category. But there is no need for a project as there is no need for a project to manage filling out stubs or something like that. poke | talk 20:21, 7 October 2008 (UTC)

Archive Box
You seem to know the most about wiki-coding, so maybe you can help me out. Do you know how to center an archive box within a talk page header? I'm trying to put mine centered on my talk page, but none of the trial-and-error coding seems to be working. Any ideas? -- Wandering Traveler 01:30, 11 October 2008 (UTC)
- I would think you could stick the archive box inside a centered div tag, although I don't know if that's the most effective way to go about it. -- Jïörüjï Ðērākō.>.cнаt^ 06:15, 11 October 2008 (UTC)
(Reset indent) Eh, I hate bothering you again Poke, but....perhaps you can explain this. Is there a reason why some of the images in my archive box have a white "background" attached to them, wheras other images meld with the color scheme of the box? - Set the colspan for the header cells to 4 and remove each second |- to put it in a two/four-column table. Then you just need to move things around if you want to sort them. Or, for optional cells, it would be better to make a two-column table and put another two tables into the cells, so that you have the left side in one table in the left cell, and the right side in one table in the right cell. poke | talk 16:12, 13 October 2008 (UTC)

- I think I get what Poke is getting you to do Wyn; instead of 3 rows in the table, have four, and span the headers over all four rather than all three. Then remove (or add I suppose would be possible) a "|-" to make it into the four/two columned table. From there poke stuff into the right position. The other option is to separate different parts of the table into different tables, then collect them in the main one.
- Is that a better description, and what you meant poke? — Cloud Xan 08:41, 14 October 2008 (UTC)
- I just added hard spaces in the bottom sections to separate the two pieces of information, may not be as pretty, but it stopped my head from asploding :P -- Wyn 07:52, 16 October 2008 (UTC)

unsigned template
It seems rather foolish and more then likely useless, but would it be useful in any way to link unsigned IP's to Contributions instead of their "Userpage"? to exemplify using my own IP, instead of "--The preceding unsigned comment was added by User:68.35.88.45 (talk)., it would be (minus template) --The preceding unsigned comment was added by 68.35.88.45 (talk) -- Wandering Traveler 00:05, 19 October 2008 (UTC)
- The problem is that there are also unsigned comments from registered people and that makes it difficult to have one template for both situations. But if you can come up with a solution, just say so :) poke | talk 00:09, 19 October 2008 (UTC)
<small>--The preceding unsigned comment was added by {{#if:{}|Special:Contributions/{}|User:{}}} (talk).</small>
? Obviously you'd need to put something in the second parameter, but it'd be useful for people who want to point IPs' unsigned comments to their contribution page. To anyone else, it wouldn't make any difference (apart for a little more code in the edit window). -- Brains12 \ talk 00:12, 19 October 2008 (UTC)- Considering how I have epic fail knowledge in HTML and general wiki coding, I'm probably out of my leauge on that. Parser functions and templates
Hey Poke, got two questions for you regarding parser functions and templates. Firstly if I was to create a template; for example located at User:Kakarot/Randomosity; with the code
placed on it. If I then placed it on both my main userpage and on my talk page using the code
would it show the text "Welcome to my page" on my userpage and "..." on any other page it is used on?
Secondly in the above example if I wanted to change it so that it would show the message on both my userpage and my talk page but on any other page it would show the "..." text how would I achieve this? I was thinking it might be something like
but am unsure if that is the correct way of doing this or if it is even possible with the ifeq function. --Kakarot 20:38, 28 October 2008 (UTC)
- first one: yes. second one:

will work i think, as for the other one i'd just try. metawiki help doesn't mention operators such as OR/AND. - Y0_ich_halt 20:47, 28 October 2008 (UTC)- I was pretty sure I was right about the first question. As to your second answer I'd kinda prefer not to use two ifeq's in that way because the actual template I am planning on using this on uses a lot more code for the "code if equal" section than my example did. I actually got the AND/OR operators from the expr function and was hoping they would also work on other functions. --Kakarot 20:55, 28 October 2008 (UTC)
- What about

? That should cover it for both User:Kakarot and User Talk:Kakarot... --Fighterdoken 20:58, 28 October 2008 (UTC)- There is just one problem with that code, for the template this is going to be used on I want it to show the first message on two specific pages in my userspace but not on another. For the above example I would want it to show the Welcome to my page on both my main userpage and my talk page but for another page in my userspace; eg:"User:Kakarot/Totally Random Page"; I would want it to show the ... text. While the example isn't exactly what my new template is going to be like, it is a simplified version. --Kakarot 21:08, 28 October 2008 (UTC)
- Then i guess

if you don't want to use Ifeq?--Fighterdoken 21:19, 28 October 2008 (UTC)- Thanks that works fine. I wasn't entirely set on using an ifeq, I just mentioned it in my question as that was what I had been previously using before I realized there was going to be more than one page I needed the "code if equal" to appear on. --Kakarot 21:24, 28 October 2008 (UTC)

- No, that's not possible. Special pages can not be targetted by DPL. The image-needed ones makes use of the image-needed categories, but for wanted pages that doesn't work. poke | talk 14:43, 29 October 2008 (UTC)

Yet more template help XD
Hey Poke, I was wondering if you could have a look at the code on this revision and fix anything that I've done wrong. I was trying to add a second optional parameter for the date in the same way as the unsigned2 template has, I'm asking you since you were the one that added; or rather fixed; a similar thing to my image name template. From what I've seen I copied the code over and since it works on my template it should work on the unsigned ip template as well but it doesn't. --Kakarot 14:26, 2 November 2008 (UTC)

- Sorry this is late, was busy with Guild Wars XD but anyway I'd say it would be better if people subst'ed it as if the template gets vandalized it would create a lot less of an increase to the job queue. Also subst'ing it means that if the template gets changed/updated it won't affect other older versions of the template. --Kakarot 03:57, 13 November 2008 (UTC)

Why was img deleted?
Image:User AOD Klug brutalbitterbeer.jpg
It was personal picture from my camera.AOD Klug 18:28, 4 November 2008 (UTC)
- Your image was deleted because it was a copyviolation; the name "Rogue Brutal Bitter" and its logo/design is copyrighted by the Rogue Brewery, and not available under the GFD License. It doesn't matter who takes the picture then, if the showed content itself is copyrighted. This is why it was deleted. poke | talk 19:28, 4 November 2008 (UTC)
Delete template revisited
It seems that the problem I mentioned and you appeared to have fixed is occurring again. Not sure if there is something else causing it this time since after the change you made before it seemed fine. See this page as an example. --Kakarot 20:13, 4 November 2008 (UTC)
- Just did a null save on the page and it fixed itself... Maybe has something to do with the tag being added by GWWT?--Fighterdoken 20:22, 4 November 2008 (UTC)
- Hard to say now where the page is deleted and the null edit fixed it before :P However GWWT simulates a normal edit by a user, so that shouldn't be an issue. Sounds more like a caching problem (due to the null edit), but I'm not able to give a definite answer. poke | talk 21:31, 4 November 2008 (UTC)
- Finally found another one that is doing it which shouldn't be deleted for a while and hopefully no one does a null edit before you can see it, Image:User BlackBlood 1.png.jpg --Kakarot 17:47, 12 November 2008 (UTC)
- Good timing, just got online ;) But yeah, this is indeed weird. One possibility I could think of is that the full url is cached with the tagging user's settings; so in this case we should ask PoA to confirm that. If that is the case, I'll look for a better way to get the full url, depending on the viewing user.. poke | talk 17:55, 12 November 2008 (UTC)

Image Deletion Confusion
Just wondering what you mean specifically by "description". I'm assuming it's the "summary" box, but I'd rather be completely sure first. My user page .:Tyla:. 00:05, 8 November 2008 (UTC)
- What do you mean? Do you mean the reason why Image:Ninja.gif was deleted? In that case please see our image use policy on user page images (and maybe even the images-section of GWW:SIGN) to see what naming we require for user images. For example in your case you could name your image Image:User Tyla Ninja.gif. poke | talk 00:54, 8 November 2008 (UTC)

For the DPL part, I cannot really see any articles the DPL should actually query. You are looking for a category "EXAMPLE" but that is nowhere used. poke | talk 19:33, 10 November 2008 (UTC)
Could this work?
Hey Poke, I have yet another question to as you. Is it possible to make a wiki bot with deletion privileges to cover over Guild Wars 2 Suggestions? Guild Wars 1 suggestions is in serious need of a redo however everyone is contemplating over "Should we use the same layout as Guild Wars 2 Suggestions with subpages and all?" and common response is "Too many subpages to take care of". I was thinking with 1-2 wiki bots the Suggestion Pages will be taken care of and sysops will have less to worry about. Is it possible or am I just dreaming? -- WoB 17:42, 26 November 2008 (UTC)
- Theoretically it is possible - of course - but actually I don't see a need for it (plus: two bots for one task would be overkill o.O). If I remember the times when we for example removed the weapon gallery from weapon pages and tagged all images for deletion (using a bot), we deleted over 1000 images within one day, by hand, with 4 or 5 sysops (who were only active because the timespan the image deletions got pending was really big). So what I want to say that the deletion mass is not a problem for sysops at all. poke | talk 22:53, 26 November 2008 (UTC)

Does this version of Mediawiki (or any that this site uses, for that matter), allow a User Creation Log, similar to Wikipedias? I wonder if that might be useful to catch sockpuppeteers and mass vandal users before they do any damage....granted, other uses could be put to good form as well, but I wonder if its even possible. -- Wandering Traveler 03:34, 19 November 2008 (UTC)

Single revision deletion of articles possible?
Hey Poke, I was wondering if there was any way possible with wiki software for us to delete either a single revision or a select number of revisions of an article, maybe in a similar way to how we undelete revisions just in the opposite way? This question came about due to a recent need to delete one single revision from the Help:Ask an account question article when there were over 1400 revisions total. I know it's possible with images so was just wondering if there was some option or extension or even an upcoming feature in the latest version that would allow us to do this with actual articles? --Kakarot 04:40, 15 December 2008 (UTC)
- Gordon already did it, the solution is to delete everything and then undelete all except the revisions you want to hide. poke | talk 08:09, 15 December 2008 (UTC)
- There are such features. One is the RevisionDelete tool, and the other is the Oversight extention. Because they are more powerful than a standard delete, they aren't usually given out to anyone but the most trusted (well, that's a tl;dr explanation, read up yourself). Still, it's extremely convenient when you have to restore 1000+ revisions as Gordon did, so perhaps it could be seen around here someday...I'll certainly miss having the former power, should I ever make it to bcrat/sysop. >.> Vili 10:36, 15 December 2008 (UTC)
Notice anything missing?
Special:Upload ← -- Brains12 \ talk 00:22, 16 December 2008 (UTC)
- Also, your autopatrol doesn't work for diffs anymore, but it does for new pages (where the link is on the bottom right corner) (maybe because they put a class around the patrol link?).
- Also also, remember in 1.12 where, if you rolled something back, it would go to a confirmation page saying "blah blah was rolled back"; then if you went to your watchlist without viewing the rolled-back page again, it wouldn't be marked as watched? Well, it marks your rollbacks as watched now, so I don't need your workaround anymore :) (the confirmation page is quite useful as it shows the diff).
- Also also also, see gw2:Image:Pling Recentchanges.JPG (the reason it's on gw2w is because we, by which I mean Tane, were testing your recentchanges stuff on common.css there). The code to emulate 1.12 makes the dropdown list freaky in FF (FF3 at least, haven't checked previous versions). Tane says it's fine in Opera, and I think Vili uses IE and says it's fine. -- Brains12 \ talk 00:34, 16 December 2008 (UTC)

- Thanks for the reports, I'll take some looks. poke | talk 08:01, 16 December 2008 (UTC)
- Ok. Special:Upload and automaticPatrol are fixed. The rollback confirmation in 1.12 was the same it is now, just that the new one has a diff added. That's why you asked me to make it redirect back to the page again. I, in general, know what page I revert and why, so I don't need the diff and still prefer a redirect back to the page (also most times I look at the diff before reverting). But you can do what you want after all ;)
- So what exactly were you trying on GW2W? I said that I don't want to emulate the look with css, that I want to change the monobook style for that. Also I made a fix for the behaviour, see this diff. poke | talk 08:38, 16 December 2008 (UTC)
- Oh, and on a side note, Firefox' interpretation of the code was correct, so no: IE fails again. poke | talk 08:39, 16 December 2008 (UTC)
- The reason I asked you for the redirect was because the edit wouldn't be marked as watched if you closed the window on the confirmation page (as I often do); trust me, I know :P. I check the diff before I rollback as well, but double confirmation is always nice.
- We wanted to change the common.css so it looks like 1.12 for everyone (so we tested it on AbandonedWiki). I'm sure you could get the monobook style changed, but that would take a while and this workaround would just be a temporary thing in the meantime; it can always be removed later on. -- Brains12 \ talk 13:47, 16 December 2008 (UTC)

Wikichu request
Hey Poke, do you mind having Wikichu change all inclusions of the Guild navbox template to the Template:Alliance nav, I would do it myself but since there are around 381 instances and bot edits are hidden by default so it wouldn't kill RC as well as the repetitive nature of the edits. I realize that it is still using the correct template in a redirection kind of way, it just would remove one more redundent template. --Kakarot 20:12, 22 December 2008 (UTC)
- Requests should really go on GWW:BOTS, even if the only bot is Poke's :P -- Brains12 \ talk 20:21, 22 December 2008 (UTC)

Mistakes
Wikichu flipped around this image with this image. I'm not sure if there are other instances, or if its a one time thing. -- Wandering Traveler 23:51, 24 December 2008 (UTC)
- Hmm, the possibility that Wikichu mixed up some skill images is very low as from the very beginning the skill name was bound to the skill icon. I looked into this and noticed that the Sealed Play cards actually already have this mistake. But as they are just swapped, there is no problem in changing that of course. But note that some skill icons used different icons in the Sealed Play cards (for example Crushing Blow) in which case it isn't possible so far to get the correct skill image without ANet's direct help. Also some skill icons just seem to be upscaled versions of the in-game icons in which case I can't do anything either as they are taken 1:1 (actually without any quality loss during the processing, only the encoding at the very end involved "quality loss" - in which case the quality wasn't visibly reduced) from the Sealed Play cards. So as long as ANet doesn't update them or provides us with better icons, we won't be able to do anything. And on a sidenote: I don't think keeping those "wrong" images harms in any way. poke | talk 00:01, 25 December 2008 (UTC)
- True. it doesnt neccesarially harm anything, I just noticed them switched while admiring the high-res ranger shots. Just a name switch would fix it, I guess. -- Wandering Traveler 00:04, 25 December 2008 (UTC)
- Fixed both :) poke | talk 00:04, 25 December 2008 (UTC)
- whoops, i better should have checked your talk page before tagging images and ranting wikichu's talk page >.< i only checked the new images gallery and noticed you re-uploaded dodge and zojun's haste as well, afterwards i noticed that Point Blank Shot and Zojun's Shot were switched as well, therefore i supposed there'd be more mixed up dulpicates. but there don't seem to be any more besides these. Although there's one thing i noticed, concerning the large Visions of Regret icon. I can't classify this skill yet, maybe it's an entirely new icon? But in any case it's not the actual Visions of Regret icon currently used ingame. That's all i noticed that far. Sorry for causing the trouble, thanks for the greeting and of course i also with you a merry christmas. —ZerphaThe Improver 00:29, 25 December 2008 (UTC)
- Heh, no problem ;) Just wanted to not spread it onto too many pages now ^^ For the icons, I just have those as a base that were used on the Sealed Play cards. I'll fix all images that are just swapped, but for the other ones, we don't have another choice than leaving them or simply saying "Not available!". And I think it might be more interesting to keep those "wrong" but often different (i.e. unknown/new) icons than having red links that probably won't be fixed ever. But I'll ask Emily later, if she is able to get current versions of high res skill icons (especially because of the high number of PvE-only or Monster skills that are in-game). poke | talk 00:34, 25 December 2008 (UTC)

Suggestion
First off, I love the new high-res images. Just.. awesome. Second, I was looking at the galleries and really like the way you set up the subpage galleries for each separate profession. However, if I may make a suggestion, it would probably be a good idea to scale down the images on the page Gallery_of_high_resolution_skill_icons for easier viewing. I know that kind of defeats the purpose of the high-res images, but otherwise the page is way too large to view effectively. Blood Red Giant 01:16, 25 December 2008 (UTC)
- Yeah, I know the page is a bit too big for using it as some kind of index page. I resized them now and created a subpage with the old and larger size; it should work fine now :) poke | talk 01:28, 25 December 2008 (UTC)

Wiki code help
Hello poke, I was wondering if you could help me with a bit of wiki code (given how you're our code expert and all : D). Following the skill animations project, we're implementing the currently available animations, so I have edited the skill infobox template, adding the following: Animation: {{ #switch: {animation} | y | yes | true = }} {{ #switch: {animation} | n | no | false = Not available}}
It's working: in "We Shall Return!", for example, now there's a link pointing people to the animation. The problem, though, is that, in order to make a text linking to an image, the only tool I could find was the "media" link (using "image" just makes the image itself load on the page). Such links lead to an empty page with nothing other than the image (example), while I was trying to find a way to get the usual image display page (example). I could just use an external link like I'm doing here, but then the skill infobox wouldn't look that good.
Would you happen to know a way of making a wiki link between text and an image? Erasculio 13:55, 25 December 2008 (UTC)
- I dont know if I fully understood what you try to archieve but tried
Link text here
yet? That will give sth like Link text here --SilentStorm 14:15, 25 December 2008 (UTC)- Thanks, that solved my problem : ). Which is weird, because either I'm extremely dumb and didn't try what would have been the more obvious solution, or that didn't work when I tried (and I'm not exactly sure I want the answer for that >.>). Checking to see if a link goes to the current page?
I would like to be able to check if the page a template is invoked from is the same page as one of the template's parameters. The parameters are links. I was trying to use {}, FULLPAGENAME, and .
The results were not what I expected. Is it possible to do this? (And if so, how?) mtew 02:05, 27 December 2008 (UTC)

- TemplateTest/test contents:

- I've put the test code in the public Sandbox at Guild Wars Wiki talk:Sandbox/TemplateTest. It also fails for unnamed links, but #rel2abs might be able to fix that. It looks like I'll have to have the template construct the link from pieces seperated by . Not as pretty but it will allow other stuff to be passed also. Crud. Felicitations on your B-day. mtew 17:08, 27 December 2008 (UTC)
- We done? mtew 01:53, 28 December 2008 (UTC)
- It is possible to do it, when you know the link title (always) or when there is no link title given, as you then simply are able to compare with
FULLPAGENAME
or the anchorencoded versions of both. But when you don't know if it is given as a link or not, and if with what title, it won't be possible. You better rethink then your structure of templates so you never need to answer that question at all. poke | talk 01:57, 28 December 2008 (UTC)- Thought I said that. Ah well. Agreed.
