SOPA Blackout?[edit]

Hey there! I hope this isn't too late of a request, but is there any chance you could run the idea through whoever it needs running through (I assume it's a lengthy list of departments)? It'd be amazing to have another large video game company on the opposition list to this terrible bill. The current date set by Reddit and a few other sites is January 18th, so this might be cutting it close as far as wrangling together the info on whether this can be done, but I believe in you Stephane <3 ~FarloUser Farlo Triad.pngTalk 07:02, 14 January 2012 (UTC)

I agree with Farlo that this should be done. Not making a public statement about Anet's position on these bills merely makes the company look spineless and unwilling to stand up for its playerbase and a free and open internet. And don't say anything about this not being the place for such issues to be brought up. Other game sites and companies are making their positions known publicly, even participating in the blackout - such as the UK site Rock, Paper, Shotgun - as well as Wikipedia and Google itself. As Wikipedia would definitely be impacted, as evidenced by their participation, this wiki would also be impacted by these laws and must allow discussion of these bills to take place here, perhaps on a special page accessible from the main page. There isn't even a link to offsite resources about the bills - the admins here couldn't even be bothered to care enough about what's going on to do even that much. Stop the apathy and have Anet make a public statement opposing SOPA, PIPA, and all bills like them. And to the admins, put something on the main page, even if it's just a link to offsite resources, to oppose these bills. Otherwise, through its inaction, Anet might as well be supporting them, and in turn, supporting widespread censorship of the internet. 193.200.150.152 15:39, 18 January 2012 (UTC)
Sadly it's a bit late to start now, at least if we were to participate with the rest of the internet. I can completely understand why they can't/won't blackout though, especially since ANet's parent company isn't American, there could be (unlikely) international issues that stem from it. ~FarloUser Farlo Triad.pngTalk 21:06, 18 January 2012 (UTC)
These bills will have negative effects worldwide, however, so it's in NCSoft's best interests to oppose them. Anet needs to make a public stand, consequences be damned. Or is it too much to ask for a company to act in an ethical manner and do the right thing, to look beyond itself and stand for something more? This whole situation of companies owning other companies is just wrong and has to end. Companies need to be made to stand or fall on their own, the whole idea of corporate personhood is a very bad joke that needs to end. Now. At least Anet could make a public statement, if not blackout. And the admins could allow a link on the main page to a special page here, or to offsite resources, as I suggested. To do nothing is simply wrong. --The preceding unsigned comment was added by 93.174.93.145 (talk) at 16:08, 19 January 2012 (UTC).
Please allow ArenaNet to oppose SOPA and PIPA on their own terms. There are more ways to support a free and open internet than outright protestation. User Felix Omni Signature.pngelix Omni 16:14, 19 January 2012 (UTC)
What methods? Either they're for a free and open internet or they're not, and they need to show which they stand for, before somebody like Blizzard decides to use SOPA/PIPA or a similar law (if passed) to destroy the competition they get from here. And what of a link on the main page here? Can that at least be done?
I don't think it's that black and white, but I'm not nearly experienced enough in that area to make any real claims. As for a statement on the main page, I don't think we'd be allowed to. Even though this site is mostly run by the community, it is labelled as the Official Wiki and the servers are hosted by ANet, so any political stance taken/expressed by this website can be taken as a stance by ANet/NCSoft. Given that, it's entirely up to them to decide if or how they want to make any such statements. Thankfully, GuildWiki and PvXWiki both voiced their opposition to the bills, so go them! ~FarloUser Farlo Triad.pngTalk 05:02, 20 January 2012 (UTC)

old site wipe[edit]

with this old site wipe dose that mean that the all the wallpapers and lore pages are going to get wiped?-User Zesbeer sig.png Zesbeer 07:54, 13 March 2012 (UTC)

Sure hope not, but even if so, this wiki has all wallpapers and lore pages from the official site (that I can find at least - tidbits from the Beyond articles haven't yet been put into the wiki's mainspace though). Though there is at least one wallpaper missing - the Mad King Thorn one. Dug and couldn't find it on the official site anymore. But I do hope none of that kind of content is lost, like that old lore on Abaddon's history that was only on the Taiwanese site before it got shut down. Konig/talk 08:31, 13 March 2012 (UTC)
You could check http://archive.org/ - their last snapshot is somewhat outdated, and I'm not sure how complete it is, but it's a start. Maybe you can even find the taiwanese site, if you remember the url? Tub 11:48, 13 March 2012 (UTC)
if i am not mistaken Google keeps cash of websites... anyhow konig you should check stephane's News section post on the wiki from the sounds of it, its all going.-User Zesbeer sig.png Zesbeer 11:59, 13 March 2012 (UTC)

We won't be keeping all the wallpapers and I'm not sure what "lore" encompasses but I suspect that a lot of it will not be imported into the redesigned website. Hope this helps. --Stephane Lo Presti talk 20:27, 13 March 2012 (UTC)

@Zes: Ah, I only saw the notice on the official site. @Stephane: I'd assume that the lore Zes refers to would (primarily?) include the things in the links of these, three, directory pages - most of which is from the manuals (the Stories and Conflict in Cantha stuff are not though). Then there are also the lore stuff from the three beyond chapters. Everything I linked, however, is on this wiki somewhere (except many images) - those not on the mainspace can be found here. And all save one GW1 wallpaper can be found here (but only the highest resolution for widescreen - should probably go through and get the highest resolution for fullscreen, I guess - at least now I managed to find the missing wallpaper!). Konig/talk 20:45, 13 March 2012 (UTC)
Hmm, apparently I'll have to take back what I last said about the stuff being on the wiki - apparently the eu. version of the site has many wallpapers and other images that the www. version doesn't have - including better size/resolution versions of some that the www. does. *goes on an image-saving frenzy* Konig/talk 20:53, 13 March 2012 (UTC)

Feel free to put my news post on the Community portal, if you feel like it should have greater visibility. @Konig: yes these lore pages will not be on the new website, including the GW Beyond ones, but it looks from your link like it's already saved on the wiki. --Stephane Lo Presti talk 21:09, 13 March 2012 (UTC)

@Stephane that was indeed what i was referring to (what Konig posted about, i also think there is a lore page about the movement of the world and stuff like the scribe [though i don't know if that is still on the site at all]) @Konig e-mail me a zip or load all the wallpapers to the wiki please! i feel like we need to find all the lore we can... so maybe posting this on the community portal would be good. doing that now, if someone hasn't already.-User Zesbeer sig.png Zesbeer 21:17, 13 March 2012 (UTC)
Completely forgot about the Scribe. Will be a dang shame if those are taken down - but they should be uploaded onto the wiki anyhow imo (Anet has a tendency of removing things, so I've been making it a slow project of mine to document blog and official site stuff onto the wikis). The Movement of the World was on PCGamer and was taken down long long ago (sad thing too, I'd love to see the picture placement online so we can put those into the long wall of text). Either way, that's on the GW2W. Konig/talk 22:23, 13 March 2012 (UTC)
moved to Guild_Wars_Wiki_talk:Community_portal#guildwars.com_site_wipe_content_placement

Hello Stephane, I come in regards to one of the media content that the wiki is, quite literally, unable to document and preserve on its own: Videos. The official site has about 49 videos throughout the site (all sans 2 can be found here, or any of the other european versions in the same location - said excluded 2 are the BMP trailer and the Zaishen Menagerie preview). I was wondering, and hoping, if it would be possible for Anet to have these videos uploaded onto the official ArenaNet youtube channel. Currently, the previously mentioned Zaishen Menagerie preview video is up there, but not the other 62. While it cannot be expected to be done, I, and at least one other, believe that you (ArenaNet) preserving these videos in some form would be ideal - and other than keeping them with the redesign of the official site, the Youtube channel is the best alternative. For reference sake, I have already downloaded the videos onto my computer, so if it is not possible or preferred by the ArenaNet team to preserve these videos yourself, we can try to figure something out (brainstorming had already begun, but I wanted to bring this up to you directly).
Thank you for your time. Konig/talk 00:44, 28 March 2012 (UTC)

Good point Konig. I'm going to try my best to upload our Guild Wars videos to the ArenaNet youtube channel, as soon as I can find the time. Thanks for reporting this to me! --Stephane Lo Presti talk 16:28, 28 March 2012 (UTC)
A quick update: I'm trying my best to clarify the situation for videos. I know that we'll only have a limited number of them on the new website. I'm not sure how we're going to be able to handle this (if we do) and I'd encourage you and other players to already start thinking about alternative backup solutions. --Stephane Lo Presti talk 19:25, 29 March 2012 (UTC)
Thanks for working on the videos. I am curious about something though; the announcement said that the site would be wiped at the end of March, seeing how it is April and the site isn't refurbrished yet, is there a new ETA on when it'll happen? Wondering out of both curiosity and to prioritize getting the last few things off of the site (if you haven't been following the discussion and progress on copying things, see here - specifically here for progress). Also, if you know of something that will be kept which is currently in the "not copied over" area in said linked list, do feel free to share as it'll ease our workload for the time being. Konig/talk 04:30, 3 April 2012 (UTC)
We've been forced to change our plans due to a few technical constraints and a few people being too busy with other tasks. The good news is that you have more time to think about what needs preserving. If I get some time, I'll try to get onto the thread you mention and help you clarify what needs saving. --Stephane Lo Presti talk 23:38, 5 April 2012 (UTC)
do you happen to have a new date? my guess is around the 22 for the 7th anniversary. -User Zesbeer sig.png Zesbeer 00:31, 6 April 2012 (UTC)

(Reset indent) so I am guessing there is no date now...or is there new news?-User Zesbeer sig.png Zesbeer 00:26, 3 May 2012 (UTC)

No we unfortunately don't have a new date. Hopefully this extra time gave the wiki community more time to finish saving content. --Stephane Lo Presti talk 16:14, 3 May 2012 (UTC)
To my knowledge, the only thing we lack that we collectively agree to save is 2005 Guild of the Week stuff. Konig/talk 19:19, 3 May 2012 (UTC)
Update! (Yay). As far as I'm aware, we got everything somewhere that's wanted to be save. All that's left is to put it on the wiki from .doc files. Curious when the site overhaul will occur now... glad I was able to get around to taking care of it all. Konig/talk 16:22, 23 May 2012 (UTC)
Thanks for this work Konig, we're glad this gave you the time to finish this project. We don't have a firm date for the release of the redesigned website, as we're still working on a few important bits. --Stephane Lo Presti talk 16:26, 23 May 2012 (UTC)
Stephane, sorry for asking, but any news on the update? Can we still expect in the coming weeks or months? Before GW2 release ;) ? --81.164.147.120 18:52, 3 July 2012 (UTC)
Hi 81.164.147.120. I unfortunately have no exact date but I know that the plan is to launch well before the GW2 launch ^^ --Stephane Lo Presti talk 18:57, 3 July 2012 (UTC)
I can't help but wonder what's taking so long... Konig/talk 21:14, 3 July 2012 (UTC)
Again the 81.164.147.120 dude here :) Any news? The launch is getting close right now :P --94.224.80.53 17:32, 12 August 2012 (UTC)
And now it's more then 8 months ago since the announcement.. any more news when the new site will launch, if at all? --94.224.80.53 00:11, 8 November 2012 (UTC)
1 year later. --94.224.80.53 20:13, 25 March 2013 (UTC)

(Reset indent) this is a situation where any sort of update would be good imho even if its bad news just saying nothing is worse then saying that the project has been shelved until further notice.- User Zesbeer sig.png Zesbeer 21:33, 25 March 2013 (UTC)

Sorry for not following up on this as I've been busy with other things. The project met some serious obstacles last year and had to be postponed. I'm not sure I can say anything else than saying that the project wasn't cancelled. --Stephane Lo Presti talk 21:51, 25 March 2013 (UTC)
Another year has passed... is this still going to happen? --141.135.88.83 02:13, 16 April 2014 (UTC)
The only change I've notice happen is that the other GW1 official websites (i.e. eu/fr/de/it/es.guildwars.com that can be selected using the Language Selection option on the top of any page on http://www.guildwars.com), except Japanese and http://www.guildwars.in.th (which I think is Thai; is no longer accessible but doesn't redirect anywhere), are no longer accessible and now redirect to the English (US) website. --Silver Edge 02:53, 16 April 2014 (UTC)

Native support for non-Windows OS's[edit]

I suppose there's little point by now, but I thought I'd ask why Anet has always acted as though Windows was the only OS in existence when it is far from it. To deliberately shut out segments of a potential market simply because they use a different OS is not the smartest business strategy. You want GW to last for a long time, direct support for other OS's such as Mac OS and Linux will help it to do so. Microsoft is on the decline, and if you guys are smart, you'll expand your support to other OS's and not keep yourselves locked into a dying dinosaur. Increased versatility is only a good thing, and having versions of the game native to other OS's will likely get people to buy the game that otherwise wouldn't or who wouldn't be bothered to find the workarounds people are forced to use now. Not that I expect you guys to do anything, this is the same staff that is so addled by Charrophilia that they won't use any other race to promote GW2 nearly as prominently. No, it had to be a mini-Charr in the collector set, not a mini-Asura or a mini-Sylvari, no can't have that. Can't have any race other than the Charr on the GW2 site promoting the dang thing, can we? Oh no, just can't do that. Can't ever throw the Ascalon patriots a bone, never even a word in all this time about that story arc or if GW2 would even address it. Only explaining the state of things as the game begins. Crafting the story in such a way as to make humans do the favor to get peace with the Charr but never even hinting at what the Charr would do in return. All this from a company that didn't have the backbone to make a public statement against SOPA and likely won't against ACTA and TPP as well. No, I doubt you'll act on this, but I wanted to mention it anyway. --72.44.1.105 21:41, 26 March 2012 (UTC)

Question about region[edit]

Hi I am currently living in the US but I am French and I was wondering where I should buy the game and if it will result in some conflicts later when I go back to France. I bought GW1 in France and currently I cannot purchase any object in the in-game store, because of regional conflicts (I live in the US). So if I were to purchase the game in the US, first could I link my accounts to benefit from the hall of monument and second could I then use the in-game store (or equivalent) when I go back to France? And the same questions if I were to buy GW2 in France? I read on twitter that people from Europe and US could play together but what about the issues I mentioned? I hope it makes sense! Thanks! 68.228.37.240 15:08, 28 March 2012 (UTC)

Pre-order questions[edit]

Hi Stephane, I want to know how will the pre-order work in Canada, especially in Quebec. Where Can I pre-order it? What are the prices? Do I need to pre-order it before april 10th? What is the difference between pre-ordering it and pre-buying it?

Also, I would love to have a GW2 t-shirt, is it possible to buy one from somewhere? Do you have some left at the studio I could buy? I would really love to have one, I'm a huge fan and this would do publicity for the game.

Regards,

Sam

Copyrights[edit]

Hey Stephane. Not to be a PITA, but this not-so-little unannounced edit has me raising an eyebrow. Commercially released official guides is basically the only thing guides has ever meant, and that language was put in place by Emily back when the wiki was created. We've also had a more direct answer from the legal team via Regina specifically on taking sections of the Prima guides (the gist of which is that it's okay as long as a guide is a few years old). If things have changed, an explanation would be useful, as someone's going to have to find what needs to be removed. If the whole "just wait a few years" thing is still in place, the change in language definitely doesn't convey that and I'd really appreciate if that could be adequately expressed. Obviously you guys need to be careful not to breach exclusivity agreements or a copyright that actually belongs to another company, but the more information you give us, the better we can deal with it. Thanks. - Tanetris 04:37, 4 May 2012 (UTC)

Hi, sorry about not announcing this. This change was made following a discussion with our lawyer. I'm going to follow up with him and see how this applies to the Prima guides, and Regina's comment. I'll keep you in the loop. Where's the best place to discuss this on this wiki? Thanks. --Stephane Lo Presti talk 16:11, 4 May 2012 (UTC)
Community Portal is always a good catch-all. - Tanetris 17:50, 4 May 2012 (UTC)
Any update on this? I'm really hoping nothing's changed so that An Empire Divided can remain up, given how much lore's in it that's not available elsewhere. Konig/talk 16:30, 23 May 2012 (UTC)
Not yet, our legal person is too busy at the moment but I'm still tracking this and will get a clarification asap. Is the example above from a book? --Stephane Lo Presti talk 16:50, 23 May 2012 (UTC)
It's from the Factions Prima Guide, and was the case specifically requested about when talking to Regina in Tanetris' link above. Konig/talk 17:29, 23 May 2012 (UTC)
And while on the topic of "old distributed stuff's copyrights" - I'm curious as to what the situation is regarding the soundtracks and, more importantly, the artbooks from the CE editions. Among these, I'm most interested in the Prophecies artbook which had lore tidbits like the Art of Guild Wars 2 does - the one lore tidbit I've ever heard of from this book is never found anywhere in the rest of lore (both in and out of the game) akin to some stuff in An Empire Divided, so I'd really like to know if there's any way to legally get verbatim text somewhere for reference. Konig/talk 17:35, 23 May 2012 (UTC)

(Reset indent)After discussing this with our legal expert, I've clarified that the change in this legal document is consistent with Regina's statement and does not change the situation of text copied from past guides. Like was said before by Regina, this applies to "lore sections" and "past guides". In the eventuality that a new guide was to be released, the "except" clause would kick in and prevent anyone from using its content.--Stephane Lo Presti talk 19:17, 7 June 2012 (UTC)

Meeting with the wiki community[edit]

This is the talk for discussing the recent news I posted about meeting with the wiki community. Thanks for sharing your constructive opinion below. --Stephane Lo Presti talk 22:25, 31 May 2012 (UTC)

Hi Stephane, thank you for inviting us for this meeting. Though I might have some input, I don't use IRC. I used it before but for my daily use it is kinda outdated so it means I would need to download a program for it and set it up. though I can do this rather easily being a it-specialist, it might be problematic for others. So using that method might rule out a bunch of people who are working on the wiki's. What my input could have been is the following. Beside the gw-wiki I also contribute on the dutch and english wikipedia. Due to how harsh policiy's are being followed here the current gw wiki is more strict on rules then the wikipedia sites. While this is just a game (sorry but it is^^). Although the rules and the way the rules are being maintained are decided by the community, I feel like this would be a good time to discuss this issue. on one hand rules are important and should be followed and monitored. on the other hand it might scare people to easy for contributing if only checking if rules are being met (without looking at the content). the main cause of it is in my opinion that this community is closer and more caring (wich is a good thing). but specially for the gw2 wiki I hope that alot of new people are going to contribute and I do hope they are not scared away by the strong bond we all have with the wiki's.Rumian 23:22, 31 May 2012 (UTC)
By "using IRC" I meant using a web interface for it, see this website. I'll add that in the newspost. Thanks for your feedback! --Stephane Lo Presti talk 23:23, 31 May 2012 (UTC)
"...about the few important topics I've got on my list (status of administrative requests, a few legal questions that were asked, interface redesign, etc.)." I think it will be of help if you can point out the topics so that we arrive with more elaborated thoughts rather surprised at the time, this will provide a more constructive discussion in my opinion.
Since contributors are from all over the World, I also suggest that times are displayed for several regions so people don't miss the appointed hours.
Regarding Rumian's comment: Wikipedia and GWW, I hope for Guild Wars 2, the source of information be only one site so that the Community won't be split into different groups losing strength, its better if we are all together in the same place. The game has the emote /wiki to bring players here but I don't think it has /wikia to send them over there (never tried that yet). Which are the rules that "could" be hard for editors here that are not difficult on wikia? In my opinion the failure of following guidelines is what lead wiki to be messed up. I can speak of it because most active contributors keep bookkeeping, cleaning-up, housekkeeping all the time and non-stop due to lazyness of users who simply don't bother to check if their "help" actually helps. User Yoshida Keiji Signature.jpg Yoshida Keiji talk 00:34, 1 June 2012 (UTC)
I think you misunderstood me Yoshida. I never edited or used the GW wikia pages or any other gw wiki. When I mentioned Wikipedia I ment the online encyclopedia bout everything (not only GW related). On the other hand you are right that a split community is not a good thing but there is no way to stop people to make different wiki's and fanpages. Maybe the start of gw2 is a good time to see of the two biggest gw related wiki sites can come together but I don't think that stephane's talk page will be a good place to start that. I'll will open a topic on the community talk page. Maybe Stephane can say if he would like to extend his invitation to the wikia community (in other words, are they welcome at your irc sessions? Second I wanna thank Stephane for pointing out the webiste. It has been a long time since I used IRC, didn't know bout that one.Rumian 21:53, 1 June 2012 (UTC)
After I said the above I did some research and found this [1]. It looks like the other wiki isn't planning on starting a second wiki though it would be a nice idea to somehow involve them into the gw2wiki.Rumian 22:17, 1 June 2012 (UTC)
I'll try to make time to be there, I want to ask a few things about in-game wiki usage and Spanish localizations. But... since you are using IRC, what will be the channel? Can you tell ahead or you will make some change to your news with the channel name before that? MithUser MithranArkanere Star.pngTalk 20:55, 2 June 2012 (UTC)

What about the other two issues reported at Guild Wars Wiki:Reporting wiki bugs (GWW:BUG#Pages with question marks can no longer be accessed and GWW:BUG#SVG images)? --Silver Edge 20:45, 11 December 2012 (UTC)

Sorry, it's an oversight from me. I'm relying on email notifications to sort out these things and I didn't get a notification about these 2 items. We'll look into it as soon as possible. --Stephane Lo Presti talk 20:51, 11 December 2012 (UTC)

More wiki bugs[edit]

Hello again Stephane, we have a few more wiki bugs that are causing problems.. namely:

  • Pages with question marks in titles cannot be accessed.
  • SVG images aren't being processed.
  • Buttons and text boxes not appearing - this last one is new, and prevents the creation of feedback pages.

Chieftain Alex 11:57, 18 December 2012 (UTC)

So the reason feedback suggestions cannot be made anymore is because of a bug? Da Mystic Reaper 12:00, 18 December 2012 (UTC)
Hail that bug!!! Leave it as it is!!! No more suggestions like making Obsidian Armor have additional extra bonuses!!! Cheers. User Yoshida Keiji Signature.jpg Yoshida Keiji (talk) 15:35, 18 December 2012 (UTC)
Ignoring such lousy suggestions about GW1, how are people supposed to make suggestions for GW2? GW2 wiki does not have a suggestion portal. I'm still working out an idea for GW2 expanding it's PvP wich i would like to suggest in the future. Da Mystic Reaper 15:45, 18 December 2012 (UTC)
Since its' release, GW2 suggestions go on the forum, not on this wiki - so no problem there. 77.97.208.117 17:11, 18 December 2012 (UTC)
Hi Chieftain Alex. We're aware of the first 2 bugs and will process them whenever we have the time (they don't seem super critical also it's annoying). Is there a bug report for the third one? Thanks --Stephane Lo Presti talk 17:14, 18 December 2012 (UTC)
Yeah, there is a bug report for the third one. Chieftain Alex 18:08, 18 December 2012 (UTC)
I realized I didn't reply to your reply. I've added it to the list of bugs we need to track. Thanks. --Stephane Lo Presti talk 23:04, 20 December 2012 (UTC)

(Reset indent) I just managed to post the first feedback in 2013 (Feedback:User/Yoshida Keiji/Beyond Mode).

The button does not appear for me either but I got my way around by manually inputting the codes. This requires somebody to have some Wiki-Fu knowledge.

  1. Know the naming convention.
  2. Copy and Paste: {{Template:GW feedback infobox}} and properly type the parameters.
  3. Finally add at the bottom {{Template:Feedback-user-backlink}}.

User Yoshida Keiji Signature.jpg Yoshida Keiji (talk) 16:41, 2 January 2013 (UTC)

But not everyone knows how to do it (like this guy <--). I myself am still planning on merging some of my skill suggestions and deleting old ones, it would be nice if i could do that without learning Wiki-Fu. Da Mystic Reaper 16:46, 2 January 2013 (UTC)
Easy, click my suggestion then click on edit but without changing anything. Just copy and paste the skeleton to finally adjust to your ideas. We could just create a "new" temporal "Template" to substitute the trouble caused by the bug. User Yoshida Keiji Signature.jpg Yoshida Keiji (talk) 16:51, 2 January 2013 (UTC)
Seems like i somehow managed to do it applying your Wiki-Fu and managed to make a merged warrior skill suggestion, and if i'm right the second suggestion of 2013. Well thnx for sharing the knowledge Yoshida. Da Mystic Reaper 23:03, 2 January 2013 (UTC)

Content suggestion that may or may not require a MW extension installed[edit]

I'd like to get in touch with you if possible about something I want to contribute to the wiki. Is there a way I can contact you directly? Thanks!! Shifuimam 22:20, 29 January 2013 (UTC)

Hi Shifuimam. Why not discuss it right here on my page? Thanks. --Stephane Lo Presti talk 22:21, 29 January 2013 (UTC)
hehe okay.. basically what I would like to see is a way to dynamically generate a skill table based on categories the user selects. For instance, Mesmer Illusion Magic hexes that cause interrupts - all of these are categories that already exist, and I know that there are extensions for MW that provide the ability to create web forms in pages to do various things. Since the skill table template can already take multiple categories to output a nicely formatted table of skills, I don't think it should be particularly difficult to put together a page where you can select your categories, click a button, and see a skill table that has exactly what you're looking for. This would be particularly useful when putting together new skill builds. I was going to try to do something like this on my guild's wiki, but unfortunately the DynamicPageList extension can't use transcluded categories and content from other wikis, so it would have to be done on this wiki. That being said I would certainly be interested in contributing development efforts toward such a thing. The only issue would be if it requires a new MW extension, we'd of course need ArenaNet to get that added to this installation of MediaWiki. Shifuimam 23:44, 29 January 2013 (UTC)
Isn't Semantic MediaWiki (or one of the extension of its bundle) capable of doing this? If this is the case (one of the expert on the topic is Dr. Ishmael on the GW2 wiki), this may of course require installing the extension on this wiki (it's one of the thing that will be part of our update plan, more information coming soon) and adding semantic information to a lot of articles. We're also open to a certain point to the idea of installing MediaWiki extensions that would allow you to do this but this would add time to the whole project. --Stephane Lo Presti talk 23:50, 29 January 2013 (UTC)
That I couldn't tell you - I haven't gotten into Semantic MediaWiki at all yet. That said, I wouldn't be surprised if the functionality were there. What would be required by anet in order to consider a project like this? Is it something that I should hold off on investigating further until the upcoming update to the wiki is in place? Shifuimam 23:55, 29 January 2013 (UTC)
There's no harm in investigating whatever is needed for that, but I strongly suggest you get in touch with a few other people here (including sysops and bureaucrats; the IRC chat channel could also be a good idea) to discuss this. --Stephane Lo Presti talk 00:01, 30 January 2013 (UTC)
Talked about it on IRC and was advised to come here. :) I posted a suggestion on one of the templates about something similar (adding skill type to the profession skill headers) and it was not well-received. I would just like to see if this is possible without it being negated from the start by one or two people. Shifuimam 00:13, 30 January 2013 (UTC)
The wiki is hosted by us but it is run by players. We have no (or very little) authority to tell others what can and cannot be done on this wiki. I personnaly can work as a facilitator and participate in a discussion, but we (ArenaNet) do not want to impose anything on this wiki. I'd advise either of two things: 1) create something to show your ideas in your sandbox, possibly describing your ideas, and share it with people on this wiki; and 2) try to find a consensus about what can be achieved, using the tools at hand and what people think about your ideas. Good luck with this project! --Stephane Lo Presti talk 00:34, 30 January 2013 (UTC)
I can certainly make a subpage of my user page with details on what I'd like to see. That being said, what's the best way to advertise that or get the word out to others on the wiki about the possibility of such a thing? Shifuimam 16:42, 30 January 2013 (UTC)
Try Guild Wars Wiki:Requests for comment. -Chieftain Alex 17:01, 30 January 2013 (UTC)
Stephane, what is the current timeline for getting the wiki upgraded, particularly with the plan to include Semantic MediaWiki? From the research I've done so far, it sounds like this extension will make it possible to do what my proposal suggests. Are we looking at that happening any time soon? Thanks! -Shifuimam 00:41, 11 February 2013 (UTC)
As I said in my big update, we've started and it's probably going to take us until March. Until we've progressed more, I can't give an end date, but I'll update everyone once I know more. --Stephane Lo Presti talk 23:01, 12 February 2013 (UTC)

Updating stuff[edit]

Considering its copyrighted, can the Live Team update File:Special event calendar.jpg and any other increasingly outdated content? Or should we feel free to edit appropriately? Silly me! --Falconeye 22:35, 6 February 2013 (UTC)

Burning questions ^_^:
Is it technically plausible to have patterns to Racing Beetles; maybe add Hokusai to the menagerie to 'paint' other pets?
Is it technically plausible to have HallowSummerween -and- Wintersday in July at the same time? ^_^)

Did we generate that picture? I don't remember ever seeing and I'm not sure that we'd need to update it, unless it's used on our website? --Stephane Lo Presti talk 22:38, 6 February 2013 (UTC)
It's actually an user-created image, which for some reason Falconeye thinks was produced by ArenaNet. --Silver Edge 22:51, 6 February 2013 (UTC)
Your modified post is a suggestion and should go into the Feedback portal, thank you --Stephane Lo Presti talk 00:44, 7 February 2013 (UTC)

Update of the wiki to MediaWiki 1.20[edit]

I believe the GWW can expect its one last massive activity which will be if GW Beyond of Nightfall sees live release. I am a Special:RecentChanges "patroller" and also an active user. It has always annoyed me that "Show last 50 | 100 | 250 | 500 changes" max capability is 500. I wish a thousand option be available, specially due to the Feedbacks when IPs make several edits of a particular page in a single hour causing a shower spam that erases track of edits (example: Special:Contributions/24.86.243.131 + Special:Contributions/Kuby8388). Could there be some kind of display reduction that only lists a page edited and adds with brackets the number of edits it had, for example: Feedback talk:Stephane Lo Presti (was edited 100 times between 19.30hs ~ 19.45hs by same User)? Guild Wars Wiki:Requests for technical administration -Auron 17:33, 9 February 2013 (UTC)
You can define the number of changes in Special:Preferences under "recent changes". I think your second request is what the "Use enhanced recent changes" option does. pling User Pling sig.png 20:14, 10 February 2013 (UTC)
Right! Pling hit it. I have just updated my Preferences to 1.000 and my account's RC has enabled 1.000 option. I have no further request, this matter can now be closed. Thanks. User Yoshida Keiji Signature.pngYoshida Keiji(talk) 04:45, 11 February 2013 (UTC)

Technical question[edit]

There are three features that I am interested in but before going into details I have a major question. I just went to read Guild Wars Wiki:About page which tells us ArenaNet is hosting this site on their servers. I could understand that this has a monetary cost. What I don't understand is: If MediaWiki is a free service, which is the expense that would make more features being provided (besides the maintenance work you might need to upgrade between version)? To me, the more we have, the better. So I don't get to see the "why nots" beside the time it might take while employing your resources.

  • Article Feedback. If page visit counters are inaccurate, this feature could work collaterally as a counter too. Besides the "YES" and "NO", I believe it would work if there were a sub option like "WHY?" or "SUGGEST" so that the editors can understand the visitor better. An extra interesting statistic to me would be: How many of the people who hit a page, actually click on the discussion page too (and which topics)? Because if the number were to be low, of course article improvement won't be addressed.
  • Global changelog page: "We’re open to suggestions on where to put this page."

I would say Community Portal, and probably change the order of the navigation box to:

  1. Main Page
  2. Recent Changes
  3. Community portal
  4. Guild Wars news
  5. Feedback portal
  6. Quick links (it this useful to anyone? Remove)
  7. Random page (who clicks this?)

"We’ll do at some point a full examination of these numbers and will let the community know the result."

Any progress into this? I was using this feature before it was removed. I think it is useful depending on the type of editor. I remember checking the counter of my Nicholas the Traveler farming guide maps. One single day after upload, my files were getting hundreds of views and I was like: wow, people really check this. Which was very encouraging to keep on going as an editor. User Yoshida Keiji Signature.pngYoshida Keiji(talk) 10:09, 14 March 2013 (UTC)

Hi, I'm not sure I understand what you mean in the first paragraph. If the Article Feedback extension gets a big support from the wiki communities (which it currently does not), we can look into adapting it if needed. As I announced in my last update the Changelog will be at Guild_Wars_2_Wiki:Changelog. Regarding the Community Portal, this topic would have to be discussed with the wiki community at large first and a consensus be reached. As I said, I'll update the 5 wikis about page counters as soon as I'm able to take a closer look at our data. We're currently focusing on upgrading the MediaWiki software. Thanks for your feedback. --Stephane Lo Presti talk 17:09, 15 March 2013 (UTC)

Using the sitenotice to give notice of downtime[edit]

Just to say that I think that using the sitenotice is a fine idea. -Chieftain Alex 20:43, 22 February 2013 (UTC)

Meaning everyone is fine with me updating it? Thanks for the super-fast feedback ^^ --Stephane Lo Presti talk 20:53, 22 February 2013 (UTC)
Ok I've pushed that live. In exchange do us a favor and revert those teleport changes kidding :P feel free to change it yourself next time, I don't expect anyone would object. -Chieftain Alex 21:36, 22 February 2013 (UTC)
I think the downtime has already occurred at the time listed (I couldn't access any wiki pages around 00:00 UTC sharp), so the site notice can be removed now. --Silver Edge 00:47, 23 February 2013 (UTC)

Captcha and vandal creations[edit]

Hi Stephane, just a note to say that I've put a request at the bottom of Guild Wars Wiki talk:Requests for technical administration which asks for some changes to our ConfirmEdit extension. -Chieftain Alex 12:22, 27 February 2013 (UTC)

I'm watching the page but was too busy, thanks for mentioning it --Stephane Lo Presti talk 01:19, 5 March 2013 (UTC)

Account Creations[edit]

Is there a way to combat bot registration creations with having a captcha or something active? I feel this would help and not hinder for new people, like me, to register here. Rodan 22:13, 5 March 2013 (UTC)

Technical stuff[edit]

$wgLocalInterwiki = 'gw1' and $wgLogo can be left untouched as we had that changed in the skin files. That being said, same as for GW2W: “The values for $wgShowIPinHeader and $wgCaptchaTriggers['create'] are the default values, so I’d suggest not including them explicitely in the configuration file.” Apart from that, we generally want to keep the settings for GWW and GW2W in sync.

As for questy CAPTCHA, I’ll try to get a similar set of questions prepared for GWW, although probably not as many. I’ll let you know per email.

And finally, about the InputBox extension. We only use and ever used the CreateBox extension, so I don’t think we need it (or ever needed it?). poke | talk 21:02, 4 September 2013 (UTC)

What about a rollback special section for certain people? Would that benefit either wiki? - Rodan 21:25, 4 September 2013 (UTC)
Not sure what you mean; administrators are able to rollback edits, while every editor has the ability to undo edits. poke | talk 23:50, 4 September 2013 (UTC)
It's a thought, due to those bots that do multiple saved edits as well as the mess-ups. Easier to undo edits with roll back on those accounts than copy/paste with problems occurring. - Rodan 02:39, 5 September 2013 (UTC)
You never need to copypaste anything to undo an edit. You simply go to the diff before the vandalism, click edit, click save page, and the page is reverted to pre-vandalism content with no chance of messing stuff up. -Auron 18:00, 5 September 2013 (UTC)

Switch of the captcha system[edit]

New users are likely to come as new game content is released. Having users with accounts is better than IP talks for easier interaction among users.

The current notice at Template:Latest update is failing in my opinion. When the Community is writing messages to new users, the wording an procedure has to be very simple as they will not be familiar with Wiki usage. The message written as of today doesn't help "visitors" on "how to request an account". The only text that provides some help is at: Guild_Wars_Wiki:Admin_noticeboard#Creating New Account. I doubt visitor users willing to get the benefit of an account will reach that far.

In the past, it was suggested to create another extra "user group" with lower rank than sysops, for the only purpose to combat bots. Such group was proposed for bot block and spam deletion.

I support captcha upgrade for the benefit of users willing to obtain an account. User Yoshida Keiji Signature.png¥oshida Keiji(talk) 09:52, 5 September 2013 (UTC)

Not sure what the latest update template has to do with that; the account creation disabled thing is a site notice, visible to every visitor on every page. And yes, the disabling of account creation is obviously not an ideal step, but it was at that time the only solution to stop it. But yeah, we are working on a different solution, a different captcha system (see the section above).
An extra group below sysops is neither necessary nor a good idea. Blocking and deletion are the two critical actions an administrator can perform. As such everyone who has these abilities should be trusted by the community. That’s what RfAs are for. If you want to help fight the vandalism, become a sysop. poke | talk 11:26, 5 September 2013 (UTC)
From my perspective, the site notice directs users to Guild_Wars_Wiki_talk:Requests_for_technical_administration#Captcha_settings_.26_bot_creations, which explains why account creation is disabled...but it doesn't say anything about how unregistered users can obtain an account.
I am not interested in a counter-bot group (I can talk about that in my user page), I'm just giving pointers to Stephane. User Yoshida Keiji Signature.png¥oshida Keiji(talk) 13:17, 5 September 2013 (UTC)

Just to make myself more clear, a lot of people (like Rodan below) ignore that creating an account in GW2W also allows the same user to log-in in this GWW since accounts are linked between both wikis. This process is easier than having to post a message at the Administration Board and wait for a reply, or to message a sysop for the same reason. Which lifts off the need to waste time until somebody reviews such request. So my comment is to: edit the notification message by indicating this method can circumvent the account creation disabilitation. I guess bots don't read that. User Yoshida Keiji Signature.png¥oshida Keiji(talk) 10:23, 6 September 2013 (UTC)
A user can register by leaving a request on the Administration Noticeboard or any active sysops page. It's not rocket science to figure out how an active Ip user can obtain an account, if they choose to do so. I feel confident these people could answer the Ip. I do not think that the template is an issue or a problem for Ip editors, but I do agree that an attempt to try a different Captcha system might work or implementations with Abuse filter to enable certain registrations, if they choose to keep the auto registrations closed. Rodan (talk) 22:29, 5 September 2013 (UTC)
Also, I suggested the group, because we do have moments where users who use undo against bots or other users that make mistakes. During these moments, no sysop may be on. I do not feel that we need more sysops just to combat these issues. I do not see why we cannot trust more users with a few abilities that I do not believe will hurt the wiki. Rodan (talk) 22:35, 5 September 2013 (UTC)
I see a couple of options here. For now we can point out the workaround in the site notice, but at some point Anet wanted to separate the user bases, so we should probably also think of a plan for then. A thought off the top of my head was to have a "request for account" page. On that page, users request an account, then the filter gets changed to allow that user name through. Dunno how maintainable that would be, but it's a thought. --JonTheMon (talk) 13:31, 6 September 2013 (UTC)
Sounds a good idea too. For some "unknown" reason, Alex has modified the Visibility of the Filters without asking for any kind of consensus...just by his convenience... If Filter 25 were to be created, having it Visible for all would help to keep track and see how effective it can be. User Yoshida Keiji Signature.png¥oshida Keiji(talk) 14:41, 6 September 2013 (UTC)
Filters have pretty much always been private, so that's nothing new. --JonTheMon (talk) 14:49, 6 September 2013 (UTC)
Just to confirm that we'll be splitting the GWW and GW2W user databases at some point (unsure when but we'll let you know as soon as we know). Given the low level of legitimate account creation, the idea of a "request for account" page sounds like a good idea. --Stephane Lo Presti talk 16:09, 6 September 2013 (UTC)
Filters are good to be kept private and read by only a certain few. Also, I'm all for a request for account and have it tie into the filter system. I think this could really cut down on the potential of bot creations. However, I'm still for the idea of a roll back group, like other wikis have. Rodan (talk) 07:24, 7 September 2013 (UTC)
Took a look through abuse filter change history, and no one has modified visibility of any filters for the past 2 years. Beyond the initial month (where we experimented with it and decided private was better), filters since then have been private from creation onward. Please refrain from throwing around unfounded accusations. - Tanetris (talk) 10:09, 7 September 2013 (UTC)
If what I was saying were to be a lie. You tell me, how would a regular user know that in the past, Abuse Filter 22 "Just for you" showed which was the user that trigger it, the difference between edits, the edit summary infraction, the number of revision, the total edit count a user has to date? Back in time anybody could see how Alex triggered Filter 22 three times, and myself once. That you cannot see it doesn't mean it didn't happen. User Yoshida Keiji Signature.png¥oshida Keiji(talk) 10:20, 7 September 2013 (UTC)
You are an administrator, un-hide content of:
And find the truth. User Yoshida Keiji Signature.png¥oshida Keiji(talk) 10:38, 7 September 2013 (UTC)
That content has always been hidden from regular users. Private visibility means that users cannot view the setup information on how the filter is coded - if the public could see these settings then they could figure out ways around it. -Chieftain Alex 19:10, 7 September 2013 (UTC)
For reference, the only difference between the diffs of that filter you linked is Alex disabling it after testing. It's always been hidden, and the hidden state wasn't changed or altered in any way. -Auron 19:55, 7 September 2013 (UTC)
File:User Tanetris Diff 102.png and File:User Tanetris Diff 103.png - Tanetris (talk) 20:36, 7 September 2013 (UTC)
None of the three of you had answered my first reply. How was it that back in the days people could see the Abuse Filter report with two page revisions, prior filter trigger and post filter trigger with all the details. That information used to be public and then was hidden. I remember the edit that changed it had the Summary: "No reason to be public" by Alex. I know this feature very well because I employed it myself to get a fast contribution numbers scan which was better than counting by contributions, since the filter already gave the total numbers summed up. Back in time the Filter would show who triggered it and why. That what before was public, now its not. Otherwise..how would I be speaking of it if it never was available to public before? User Yoshida Keiji Signature.png¥oshida Keiji(talk) 03:34, 8 September 2013 (UTC)
Tanetris said "no one has modified visibility of any filters for the past 2 years. Beyond the initial month (where we experimented with it and decided private was better), filters since then have been private from creation onward." If you ever saw a public filter, it was in that one month period ~2 years ago. If it wasn't in that one month period two years ago, you didn't see a public filter. Three sysops just looked at the diffs you linked, and one posted pictures of them to show nobody touched its Hidden status. I went back to the filter history of Filter 22 and it shows this. It's never been public, not even for a minute. It's been switched on and off and the filter itself has been edited several times, but it has never been anything other than completely hidden. That not only answers your question, that blows it out of the water. Do you have any screenshots of the filter being public to show us or are you going to just keep wasting time and ignoring screenshot evidence contrary to your claims? -Auron 05:44, 8 September 2013 (UTC)

(Reset indent) “I remember the edit that changed it had the Summary: "No reason to be public" by Alex” – Filter edits do not have edit summaries (sadly). There is nothing that allows you to summarize what a filter edit is about, especially nothing that is publicly visible. So if you remember that text, then either you are wrong, or you remembered something else, e.g. a normal page edit. Furthermore I don’t remember anything about using filters to get a user’s edit count. You don’t have to create (and trigger) a filter to examine an edit, and we have a way to count revisions that existed long before we got the AbuseFilter extension (see GWWT contribution count).

(Reset indent) Regardless of that, I fail to see how this is even remotely relevant to the topic. As I’ve said right at the beginning, GWW will get a question based CAPTCHA just like GW2W which will hopefully prevent any further bots and allow us to enable account creation again. If you have a problem with administrators that use filters to fight vandalism, then please bring it up on the admin noticeboard, but please stay on topic here. poke | talk 15:43, 8 September 2013 (UTC)

Timing: This is the proof of the "when": User_talk:Yoshida_Keiji/Archive_5#Lol_abusefilter. I was using the filters around February of this same year. Like with any other softwares, you learn to use it by "let's see what this botton does" and I was clicking everywhere to learn its utility.
Technically speaking Jon The Moon answered they were always Hidden, and I wouldn't have kept with it, but then Tanetris showed up saying that I speak without foundings so he asks me to prove it, would have been more appropiate in my talk page but...
I exactly remember seeing Jon The Moon updating Filter 22 not long after Alex got sysopship...exactly to counter Alex's bad mounthing. In the link that I provide above, Alex is already admitting he had triggered it once, and he did twice again afterwards...And then...the Public status was modified by himself to what smells of a bad mouther trying to cover up his arse.
"Furthermore I don’t remember anything about using filters to get a user’s edit count.". When an infraction was commited, the report would show the total contributions count, it was never employed during my presence here by any other, only myself gave usage to it for the times I used to spend hours reading Archives and check which user has stronger Wiki-Fu when reading hot discussions by users I have never met before and try to create a user profile to see which one had stroner wiki-knowledge.
Back in February of 2013, performing http://wiki.guildwars.com/wiki/Special:AbuseLog?wpSearchUser=Yoshida+Keiji&wpSearchFilter=&wpSearchTitle= would help you see each infraction...but now...mysteriously...you can't...Makes you wonder...how much is being hidden for convenience...Do administrators check on each other?...What does the new MediaWiki feature incorporated in Maintenance 27 June 2013 "Added the deletelogentry permission to the Sysops user group." does? ETC. The fact that sysops had been dishonest makes me more sceptic each new day.
Alex was caught by Filter 22 three times due to his bad mouthing, hidding this makes adminis lose a lot of trust. User Yoshida Keiji Signature.png¥oshida Keiji(talk) 06:30, 14 September 2013 (UTC)
Wikis are known for hiccups in the system as not one wiki is perfect. Not to mention, did you think the admin was testing the filters? I wouldn't be so harsh on admins as I'd let this go for the past is the past and not the future. It's time we focus on what could help this community, hence my suggestions and not what happened months ago that's trivial. Rodan 07:12, 14 September 2013 (UTC)
Wikis are not known for "hiccups in the system." The filter was never public; this one in particular was set to Hidden since its inception and has never been anything but (proof: File:User Auron filter flags.jpg). That's taken straight off the filter history page. Several sysops have provided proof that it's never been public, complete with screenshots. Without any evidence to the contrary, it's the word of one user with history of misunderstanding basic wiki policies and tech against multiple screenshots and the entire Filter's history page. This topic is definitely over. -Auron 08:10, 14 September 2013 (UTC)

Extra note, since Filters are Hidden, anybody who checks those blocks should be able to find out the edit summary wording that triggered the blocks. I know of this because back in the days the reports were available. User Yoshida Keiji Signature.png¥oshida Keiji(talk) 08:58, 14 September 2013 (UTC)

filter #22 "Just for you" was a very unsubtle and unrefined filter that vigorously blocked all malicious edits and was intended to target a specific proxy user who was plaguing the wiki at that time.
@13:34: "Undo revision 2535189 by Chieftain Alex (Talk) shitty coding" — this was testing a rule I had applied moments before to the abusefilter which should have excluded legitimate longtime users from triggering filter #22. it failed, about a minute later I turned the filter off. Seemed an appropriate reaction. -Chieftain Alex 11:30, 14 September 2013 (UTC)

Wiki update[edit]

I do not have access to Guild Wars 2 forums as I do not own Guild Wars 2. Is there another way of a report besides facebook and twitter, if something goes wrong? Rodan (talk) 20:38, 4 November 2013 (UTC)

Hi Rodan. I'll also be on the wiki IRC channels at the same time (use http://webchat.gamesurge.net/ and go to #gww). We're not expecting anything to go wrong (but it's technology so...). Hope this helps. --Stephane Lo Presti talk 20:43, 4 November 2013 (UTC)

Life after Database Split?[edit]

With the "Wiki maintenance (User database split) on Wednesday April 2nd at 10AM Pacific", I am wondering if consideration will be given to taking action to re-enable account creation on this wiki? It seems to have been disabled for an awful long time and after the database split, it will no longer be possible to create an account on the gw2wiki which you can then use here. I know that you will be away when the split happens Stephane, but although this is hardly urgent, it would be nice to know your thoughts sometime. User Arrowmaster Sig.pngArrowmaster - 01:53, 31 March 2014 (UTC)

A few key points: First, Stephane/Anet aren't the ones who disabled account creation, and aren't necessary for reenabling it. It was a community decision, enacted by the admins via AbuseFilter, and can be undone the same way. Second, even as long as it's been disabled now, there have been 45 attempts by bots to create accounts in the past 24 hours (just checked). Third, even after the database split, people will be able to make GWW accounts, they just have to contact admins with their desired username to set up an exception for them. A bit of a hassle, admittedly, but as far as I know a better way of weeding out bots so we don't have 50 account creations a day hasn't been found since last we discussed. And of course, an account isn't necessary to contribute, we still accept anon editors. - Tanetris (talk) 05:08, 31 March 2014 (UTC)
Well thanks for the information. It seems that the account creation page does still exist (after trying the link when not logged in earlier) User Arrowmaster gww account creation.jpg
although presumably it does not work. It seems odd to me that a proper solution cannot be found that can defeat the bots, perhaps by making email address mandatory (rather than optional as the current form) with an automatic email sent which requires confirmation before the account is created, which is common practice for a lot Internet sites. Seeing as the GW2 wiki has been taken over by Dulfy.Net today (haha!), perhaps there is hope yet? User Arrowmaster Sig.pngArrowmaster - 15:24, 1 April 2014 (UTC)
of course the page exists, we can't close it down from the wiki-side... and we wouldn't want to as this would remove the only way we would allow users to create an account (if we added a filter exception). Fair point on requiring an email address, I don't think that there is a good reason to not require one (had only one objection last time this was raised on GWWT:TECH#footer, and even that user had an email account.) -Chieftain Alex 17:53, 1 April 2014 (UTC)

Anniversary Notes[edit]

Thanks for the infos and also for the additions. One question: The extension from 1 to 2 weeks - is that only for this year? Or is that a permanent change? Steve1 (talk) 21:54, 22 April 2015 (UTC)

It's only for this year. The extension of Anniversary festivities to 2 weeks is permanent. --Stephane Lo Presti talk 22:29, 22 April 2015 (UTC)
Another question that springs to mind for me is: is this 20 proofs per character on a yearly basis or is it one-time? Or can we look forward to gather all of these again next year? Thanks for clarifying this, and thank you for the awesome update. --User Vampiretrix Sig.pngKevjoe - Vampire Trix 21:59, 22 April 2015 (UTC)
It's on a yearly basis, so 20 per year and you'll be able to repeat it next year. Thanks --Stephane Lo Presti talk 22:29, 22 April 2015 (UTC)

Is there any official word from Anet on how people are currently farming the Proofs of Legend by creating a new Nightfall character, doing Chahbek Village, deleting and repeating? Is this considered exploitative or is this ok to do?--50.182.168.175 23:13, 22 April 2015 (UTC)

Proofs only be obtained once per region.--Falconeye (talk) 08:57, 23 April 2015 (UTC)

Quality response! Steve1 (talk) 17:24, 23 April 2015 (UTC)

Hello Stephane, thank you for the information about this update. I got a question about this part "every 25 keys will give you a guaranteed Blessing of War", does this count for only 1 instance or I can, say use 24 keys and the next time I go to the chest it and use a key it will give me a Blessing of War? Thanks in advance :D --The preceding unsigned comment was added by LilDeath (talk) at 03:54, 23 April 2015 (UTC).

The counter to 25 is stored on your account, so you should be able to change maps or even characters without losing progress towards the Blessing of War. However, as with any update, it's possible that something was missed in testing, so I would use your keys cautiously if you are worried about missing out. Do note that the bonus Blessing will drop alongside the other items from the chest, so don't miss it if you're leaving the loot in a pile! - Joe Kimmes Talk Page‎ 22:57, 24 April 2015 (UTC)

Decade Rods[edit]

Remember Decade Rods are still missing one modifier (wands have 2, the Festival modifier is an extra, but Decade Rods have only 1 modifier other than the extra), but they were not fixed when the Balthazar weapons were fixed. MithUser MithranArkanere Star.pngTalk 16:12, 24 April 2015 (UTC)

Maybe I'm getting things wrong, but the Festival modifier isn't extra. For physical weapons it's used instead of the inscription. And the staff also doesn't have anything extra. Am I missing anything? Steve1 (talk) 16:16, 24 April 2015 (UTC)

Number of regions - Proof of Legends[edit]

Hello again.

In your game update feedback you indicate that Kaineng City and Raisu Palace are seperate regions and thus it's possible to obtain 20 PoL per character. People haven't been able to get the 20th Proof since Raisu and Kaineng seem to be one region.

Could you kindly confirm?

Thanks in advance, Steve1 (talk) 18:14, 24 April 2015 (UTC)

Good catch! Stephane asked me to confirm this and it turns out that those two regions are sharing data due to a bug. Fortunately, it's an easy fix; I will get on this immediately and should have it patched this afternoon. After the fix, you will be able to complete a Raisu Palace mission to get your missing Proof. - Joe Kimmes Talk Page‎ 18:27, 24 April 2015 (UTC)
Thanks a lot, also for the quick response!
Best, Steve1 (talk) 18:31, 24 April 2015 (UTC)
Follow-up question: Imperial Sanctum - which region does it belong to currently and which should it be? Steve1 (talk) 20:57, 24 April 2015 (UTC)
The 'Raisu Palace' region is intended to encompass Raisu Palace, the mission, and Imperial Sanctum. It's a bit of a special-case for purposes of the Proofs, since Factions has fewer distinct regions than Prophecies and Nightfall. - Joe Kimmes Talk Page‎ 21:23, 24 April 2015 (UTC)
Could you kindly check if it's working as intended? It seems like Raisu Palace and Imperial Sanctum currently count for different regions. Cheers. Steve1 (talk) 21:44, 24 April 2015 (UTC)
The code looks correct, but I will test it as well. Did you perhaps complete Raisu Palace prior to today's update? Before the update, it would count as a Kaineng City mission. - Joe Kimmes Talk Page‎ 21:48, 24 April 2015 (UTC)
Should've taken a fresh char. (facepalm) Nevermid me. Might check it later. Steve1 (talk) 07:44, 25 April 2015 (UTC)
Is it 4 (or 5)?

Is this temporary, or permanent? Does this mean "Raisu Palace" is now retroactively considered a region/sub-region? Either in-game mechanics or meta-lore wise? This info is important for disambiguation and other wiki-related stuff. --Falconeye (talk) 04:54, 25 April 2015 (UTC)

Nothing has changed about any of the missions' internal data, which means that both 'Raisu Palace region' missions are mechanically in the Kaineng City region. Placing them in their own region for Proofs was for festival flavor purposes; it gives Factions 5 Proofs available and encourages playing the final 2 missions. - Joe Kimmes Talk Page‎ 17:27, 27 April 2015 (UTC)

Bonus Mission Pack Bug[edit]

Hi,

I know you guys don't support the game anymore but there is a bug currently in game that people are exploiting with the Bonus Mission Pack Weapons that I just thought you should be aware of. Currently, the Mursaat shield and the Charr shield don't come customized after getting them and are trade-able in game, and perhaps other weapons too but these are the only ones I can confirm. There are some people exploiting this bug and are selling these shields in Kamadan and Guild Wars Guru from 40e up to 400e each saying its one of a kind. I myself did Sauls story once to test, and the Mursaat shield was not customized. This was because there was a large number of uncustomized Mursaat shields appearing and some people were wondering how. I deleted this as it was just to test and I am not sure about Anet's stance on this. Lorenna De Vir (talk) 22:40, 14 May 2015 (UTC)

Thank you for the report; I am investigating this now. - Joe Kimmes Talk Page‎ 22:47, 14 May 2015 (UTC)
Also somebody found out at least some of the existing BMP items have lost their customization. I cannot personally confirm this though but I wouldn't doubt it. Jeree95 (talk) 22:50, 14 May 2015 (UTC)

I can personally confirm that some have, a friend in ally previously had a Mursaat shield, and it is now uncustomized like the rest. There are also some people in my ally worried they will now be banned for testing this, though they have not exploited it just testing. This will not be the case, right? They are also worried that the skins may be removed from the game completely because of this, because they are nice skins. Lorenna De Vir (talk) 22:59, 14 May 2015 (UTC)

This should be fixed now - thank you again for bringing this bug to our attention. Existing uncustomized shields will remain uncustomized, but new ones will be properly customized. If you have an uncustomized BMP item, feel free to keep it. - Joe Kimmes Talk Page‎ 00:01, 15 May 2015 (UTC)
Existing forehand items (at least a certain Charr Scepter) just got customized with the new build, but offhand items (a certain Charr Focus that was crafted at the same time as aforementioned scepter) was not. Interesting. Jeree95 (talk) 00:06, 15 May 2015 (UTC)

Well, sometimes the Guild Wars 1 playerbase desires a little bit more attention from the studio regarding what minor features the players still might be seeking. It was rather disappointing not seeing you during the 10th Guild Wars Anniversary Celebration at Guild Wars Guru, for example, as the forum itself is like one of the last oldschool gatherings of the original players who's got long-term history of being interested in ArenaNet's creations. Suffice to say it had about 1/4 of the original Dev Team's members registered there... and the place is not visited by you as CRM these days, I mean like, at all. And things as such sadden us a little bit. Dmitri Fatkin (talk) 14:01, 15 October 2015 (UTC)

Ruine taking control of this page[edit]

Hello, and I'm Ruine if you (probably) don't know me yet. I am a late GW gamer and I have been wandering a bit in GW, GW2 and lately on GWW and GW2W. I've played a lot to the game and I really enjoyed it (in fact I played it so much I even had to repeat a school year but shh... that belong to the past). Anyway, I was wondering how a french engineer like you ended up working in video games and what I should do for working with people like you.--93.25.120.137 18:23, 13 October 2015 (UTC)

Hi Ruine, I'm going to move this discussion aside from this page, because this wiki is about Guild Wars, not my path to becoming an employee of ArenaNet. I'd suggest that you get in touch with me via my personal Twitter account for this kind of question. Not that I don't want to talk, but I want to respect the officialism of my talkpage if that makes sense! :) --Stephane Lo Presti talk 22:52, 13 October 2015 (UTC)
Today I learned how to register on twitter thanks to you. I follow you so far. --193.48.141.104 12:35, 14 October 2015 (UTC)

Changing the Captcha system that we use[edit]

As per User:Stephane Lo Presti/News/2016-27-01, switching from ReCaptcha to QuestyCaptcha is not a problem for me, as I figure the years of use on the GW2W prove it's capable of doing the job to the same degree (anecdotal, as I am not able to pull the stats from the GW2W on its actual prevention rate). This wiki has the abuse filter set up to prevent account creation, so even a weaker system would be acceptable. G R E E N E R 01:19, 28 January 2016 (UTC)

Unrelated discussion: we actually discovered after switching to QuestyCaptcha that it made very little impact on improving the protection (from the viewpoint of account creation). But it certainly didn't make anything worse, so we're keeping things that way, since there doesn't seem to be hordes of vandalism bots on the wikis! Thanks for your feedback Greener :) --Stephane Lo Presti talk 01:22, 28 January 2016 (UTC)

Anniversary Celebration[edit]

Hi Stephane. The Anniversary Celebration end date on the official website is incorrect now that it's a two-week event. Please see Feedback talk:Game updates/20160317. Also, the login screen announcements doesn't currently mention Anniversary Celebration anymore, even though the event is still ongoing. --Silver Edge 08:56, 4 May 2016 (UTC)

GW Guru[edit]

Hey Stephane,

FE pointed your update out to me. As I just posted on my talk-page, if a GW Guru community member would like to leave a note, summary, or dissertation about the site, I have no personal objections (others may voice their thoughts, of course). As you said, bringing over their contributor content would be another matter to discuss, if they wish. G R E E N E R 07:29, 17 June 2016 (UTC)

Sounds good Greener. I'm not sure how the wiki feels about saving some of that content, and how it works with the policies of the GW Wiki, so I just wanted to drop this note and let you guys decide what makes sense. --Stephane Lo Presti talk 15:50, 17 June 2016 (UTC)
I decided to open it up to both communities to discuss over at Talk:Guild Wars Guru. G R E E N E R 17:11, 17 June 2016 (UTC)

December 14th update[edit]

Hi Stephane, thanks for adding the update details so quickly. But what happened on December 14th at around 20 GMT? There was an update that was not yet documented. Would be happy if you added some information. Guess it was just maintainance and/or fixing observe. --93.206.7.51 09:14, 21 December 2016 (UTC)

Hi Anon, sorry for not circulating the information to this wiki but we performed a server maintenance. So the build was triggered by this maintenance but did not have any bug fixes. Thanks for reaching out! --Stephane Lo Presti talk 17:38, 3 January 2017 (UTC)

Currently in maintenance?[edit]

Hey Stephane, long time no chat! I was just wondering if there are currently any server maintenances going on related to the wiki. A bunch of 503's and 502's are popping up intermittently and on Reddit there is mention of server migration. Any news? :] - Infinite - talk 17:14, 1 November 2017 (UTC)

Hi Infinite, we're not doing any maintenance so I'm going to talk to our engineer about that. Do you have details of the pages that gave the errors and the rough time when it happened? Thanks and sorry about that! --Stephane Lo Presti talk 17:55, 1 November 2017 (UTC)
Around 16:00UTC today, I got 502'd on every revision I attempted to save (including your talk page, when it sparked the question). I got a few 503's, mostly yest[[Media:Example.ogg]]erday near the end of the day (22:00UTC-ish). The first thing I checked was my own connection, but it occurred on multiple connections and all my devices (desktop, laptop, phone, remote desktop). It is rare to see wiki navigation run into error codes these days, so I decided to reach out for clarification. - Infinite - talk 18:08, 1 November 2017 (UTC)
Possibly related to the DDoS attack that was happening yesterday and then earlier today. G R E E N E R 22:13, 1 November 2017 (UTC)
Without having specific IP addresses and/or articles that generated the error, we cannot pinpoint the precise cause. Editors from the French wiki reported similar errors with the code 502 during the same time window, so we're assuming that it's the same thing. Our engineer didn't find any issue with the wiki servers so it's safe to assume that it's not the problem! Let us know if you see more of those --Stephane Lo Presti talk 22:18, 1 November 2017 (UTC)
That is a long list of articles, though most of them minor (which I gave up on eventually). The only one I know for sure, though, was a 502 on saving the latest revision to District. Shortly after that the revision to your talk page to make this thread. Eventually both got through, after poking around in-game for a while. I will keep a proper list next time! - Infinite - talk 23:53, 1 November 2017 (UTC)

(Reset indent) I have started a list below to keep track of incidents as accurately as possible. - Infinite - talk 12:55, 2 November 2017 (UTC)

List of 502 and 503 incidents[edit]

  • 12:18 UTC - November 2nd, 2017 - List of skill quests, saving resulted in a 502 error.
  • 12:19 UTC - November 2nd, 2017 - List of skill quests, navigating back to my unsaved revision resulted in a 503 error.
  • 12:19 UTC - November 2nd, 2017 - Loading Special:RecentChanges resulted in a 503 error, multiple attempts until 12:22 UTC also resulted in a 503 error.
  • 12:20 UTC - November 2nd, 2017 - Loading Feedback talk:Stephane Lo Presti resulted in a 503 error.
  • 12:40 UTC - November 2nd, 2017 - Reloading Special:RecentChanges was slower, but loaded properly. Feedback talk:Stephane Lo Presti loaded near-instantaneously.
  • 12:42 UTC - November 2nd, 2017 - Reloading List of skill quests was near-instantaneously, the revision in the edit box was not lost.
  • 12:47 UTC - November 2nd, 2017 - Previewing this revision to Feedback talk:Stephane Lo Presti resulted in a 503 error, but as it is a preview, was displayed on the page as an HTTP error: Backend fetch failed.
  • 12:50 UTC - November 2nd, 2017 - Previewing this revision to Feedback talk:Stephane Lo Presti resulted in an HTTP error: timeout. Subsequent preview immediately returned an HTTP error: Backend fetch failed.
  • 12:51 UTC - November 2nd, 2017 - Previewing the aforementioned revision to List of skill quests resulted in an HTTP error: timeout.
  • 12:51 UTC - November 2nd, 2017 - Further previewing and saving of both revisions result in either an HTTP error: Backend fetch failed or an HTTP error: timeout. This lasted until 12:54 UTC - November 2nd, 2017.
Thanks for those Infinite. Our engineer found no issue with these accesses on our wiki servers, so the issue is before that and, given the random pattern, it's pretty safe to assume that it's related to network events --Stephane Lo Presti talk 15:45, 2 November 2017 (UTC)
I've heard Anet's moving data centers, maybe that's it? --DefinitelyNotHanz (talk) 15:55, 2 November 2017 (UTC)
It's not, the migration is only happening next week and none of this operation is currently affecting the live wikis (we would never do that, but if we did then reviewing our wiki servers would have shown that they were the cause of that) --Stephane Lo Presti talk 15:57, 2 November 2017 (UTC)

In-game help links[edit]

Good morning, Stéphane. I've noticed a long time ago that the links mentioned on this page have stopped working. Is there a chance someone could release a new build after the holidays and adjust these redirects to https://support.guildwars.com for the Guild Wars Official (Help) Site, https://www.guildwars.com/download for the access to Game Manuals, https://wiki.guildwars.com/wiki/Game_updates for the list of the newly-arrived update notes and https://wiki.guildwars.com/wiki/List_of_fansites as the new listing of Fan Sites? Hi Stomatium, to be frank I tend to keep my private and professional lives fairly apart. If you have questions related to the game, I'm happy to read them here. If not, you can try to give me more context but as I said I try not to cross the streams too much. Thanks for your understanding! --Stephane Lo Presti talk 18:33, 15 July 2019 (UTC)
Cher Stéphane,
This is not that private and is actually related to the game, but since I may have to provide you with details about my account, this can not be that public either.
Why not writing to the NCsoft customer service then? Well, I started by doing this of course, but they replied me to contact someone at ArenaNet Staff. So, I feel somewhat embarrased to disturb you, but could not find any other solution... At least it was easier when you had a @anet mail or IG directly, but it was already so long ago... And my apologies for my bad English, etc. Stomatium (talk) 17:37, 17 July 2019 (UTC)
Hi, can you tell me more about what this is about, without sharing private information? Thanks --Stephane Lo Presti talk 18:14, 17 July 2019 (UTC)
Hello Stéphane. This might be a rare crash bug. I am not a specialist but to date, I can not play the game any more. Sorry for my delays in replying to you (IRL...) Stomatium (talk) 19:28, 18 July 2019 (UTC).
Could you please give him your support ticket number (the one where you were told to contact an ArenaNet staff member)? Thanks --Stephane Lo Presti talk 19:39, 18 July 2019 (UTC)
Stéphane, This is Ticket #7395834 (first published on July 05, 2019 21:40). I can add here that anti-virus, firewall, chkdsk, dxdiag, SFC /scannow, etc. returned nothing false or corrupted on my computer. And that I ran GW on it for 6 years without any issues like this one. In the last post, you can read that I have to contact you all by myself (while I would have expected that the Customer Service could at least forward my problem & request to the Person(s) in charge at ArenaNet). If you can have my e-mail address from this ticket, do not hesitate to use it if you find it more convenient. Regards, and again, sorry for all this disturbance here.--Stomatium (talk) 11:53, 19 July 2019 (UTC)

mAT June 2019[edit]

Bonjour Stéphane, we've had some childish actio controversies on this wiki regarding the June mAT one month ago (photoshopped screenshots, accussations of botting, personal attacks ...) and while the evidence seems to poin in one direction I'd like to ask if we can have an official word from ANet:

1) Who played whom in the June mAT and who won?

2) How come there wasn't a gold trim delivered? Will that be rectified?

3) Was there some sort of investigation by ANet regaring botting done? I've seen the name of your colleague Bill Freist being mentioned. Is there a final verdict of said investigation which you might share similarly to the June 2014 and We Are Six Inches Enchanted [avg] (http://web.archive.org/web/20140712120237/https://forum.guildwars.com/forum/forums/news/June-26-2014-June-Monthly-Automated-Tournament)? Or has there been already some communication?

Merci beaucoup, Steve1 (talk) 06:46, 22 July 2019 (UTC)

A Word from the Wammo[edit]

Mending needs a buff! As above, thanks for what you've done to update and keep the remaining community alive. Having access to prophecies and some casual pvp is quite nice.

DBS[edit]

A personal request before anything else - please restore DBS (Dwarven Battle Stance) to what it once were, a useful skill in pvp (without the armor buff and skill requirement to cause interrupt) - it's simply not used now, it wasn't heavily used before but atleast at times you would see it being used.

Tweaks for Titan's Quests/Glint's Challange[edit]

If u ever read this, a few tweaks on an end questchain to make them doable for anyone still questing in the game - I recently did them in HM, it took alot of time (I did them ages ago aswell but if you do not have SY or a sin it's a proper pain - with good/specially made builds, cons, w-horn/t-flares and DPS removal...) and I'm no newb to elite areas and making good team builds.

Defend North Kryta Province/North Kryta Province[edit]

Setting a slightly longer cooldown time after a spawn is killed (which is at times the trigger for the next one) to when the next spawns would work wonders (idk how it would work with the timing for the spawns next to the village after you moved from initial contact with Greywind).

The Last Day Dawns/Eastern Frontier[edit]

Adding one or two res shrines in Eastern Frontier, N/E - there is one obvious position just east of the highest route to the Titans.

The Titan Source/Flame Temple Corridor or Dragon's Gullet[edit]

Getting to the last quest 10-15 charr spawns right inside the zone in HM - paired with a 4 man team that is very harsh, it would make a big difference to cut that number down to two normal spawns in HM (they get bugged and trigger together, with really careful/proper pulling u can drag them partially apart).

Defend Droknar's Forge/Mineral Springs[edit]

Simply takes alot of time, I don't have an easy answer to balancing this one (except possibly tweaking the skillsbars of titans down a pinch).

  • There are tricks to each quest, so please don't "fix" those tricks as that would truly make some of them next to impossible with heroes (and yes those "tricks" were left there initially i think for just that reason). I'm done with them, but any others that might take them on are likely to have big troubles with them or simply abandon them alltogether.

A Token of Appreciation[edit]

Regardless of the performance of the new PvE Elite skills and their weapon counterparts, I would like to extend my gratitude to the Arenanet team for giving us some new additions to the game. It is very much appreciated from myself, and I am sure from others as well. Soldier198 (talk) 18:12, 22 April 2020 (UTC)

I concur - 15 years after release this is a very welcome update! Chapeau. Steve1 (talk) 18:21, 22 April 2020 (UTC)
The new skills are definitely... interesting. [ Tyloric ] User Tyloric t.jpg [ Talk ] 19:38, 22 April 2020 (UTC)
I agree too. 15 years later, it not a really big update but I really like the new ways offered to play each prof. Thanks a lot! -- Nae Lussia Taani 07:10, 24 April 2020 (UTC)

Bugs and suggestions about the Anniversary update[edit]

Hi Stéphane,

I am leaving you with this note about the new skills and weapons, with a gathering of bugs and suggestions.

Of course I would be happy if some of these things are implemented, notably a fix for the weapons and about all the suggestions, but I am aware of arenanet stance on suggestions and I understand if it happens to not be possible.

  • Bugs :
  1. The Ranger elite skill. The text states that the effect applies to party members in nearby range, but actually it applies to allies in the area, which makes minions and spirits rather game-breaking.
  2. Mesmers are already one of the strongest professions in the game, the shield gives them 8 additional armor for almost no cost as all mesmers will use 9 fast casting at least. It is offset by the lack of a slot for a shield handle, but it is still very strong, especially in PvP.
  3. The damage from the new weapons. Despite their new requirement, the weapons actually still scale with their usual Mastery rank, defeating their purpose as one needs the usual investment in addition to the primary attribute investment.
  4. The Necromancer elite skill triggers health sacrifice twice on dual attacks, notably Exhausting Assault, even if the skill fails as a result of being used out of sequence. Failed dual attack do not go on recharge and can be reused immediately, leading to huge armor-ignoring damage from Dark Aura. To give you an idea it is over 100 damage to adjacent foes every 1/3s.
  • Suggestions :
  1. The new monk elite skill is funny but it's too weak. A reduced recharge (7s or 8s for instance) and a better scaling with divine favor to reward primary monks more, 15...43...50 holy damage instead of the current 15...19...20, would be neat.
  2. The elementalist elite skill is just sad. My main character is an elementalist and while I'm happy we got something at all, it is unusable. Overcast is usually dangerous and here the effects are simply not good enough for the cost. There are a lot of ways to make it better, for instance 20...52...60% casting+recharge time, or armor penetration boost to elementalists spells (similarly to Destructive Was Glaive or Cruel Was Daoshen) since elementalists struggle with high armor ratings and high level foes in highend PvE. Or removing overcast.
  3. Heroic Refrain is terrifying. Very, very, brutally strong. +5/6 attribute rank to everyone is huge and in my opinion it should be toned down a little. But if looking from a practical perspective only, the paragon will just cast it on all party members at the beginning of the map then maintain it with "They're on Fire!" and never use it again. So a 5s recharge would be less time lost on this step.

Thank you for taking the time to read this, have a good day - Ruine User Ruine Eternelle Ruine Eternelle.jpg Eternelle 23:02, 23 April 2020 (UTC) Edit : on an unrelated subject, is there a validation engineer at arenanet that I could contact for professional networking purposes ? --Ruine User Ruine Eternelle Ruine Eternelle.jpg Eternelle 13:04, 28 April 2020 (UTC)

Alternatively, Heroic Refrain could be party-wide. On paper it might make it more powerful, but as Ruine stated, the final effect will be the same and it just reduces tediousness. Steve1 (talk) 09:24, 25 April 2020 (UTC)
Just wanting to offer a (hopefully easiest) solution to the unique attributes anniversary weapons debacle: make these weapons mechanically unique types that do not link to any mastery attribute. Wands and staves already do this, only scaling by player level and a met requirement. This way the weapons can exist as intended, while simultaneously bypassing the mastery check in the damage calculations. Whether or not they will do slightly less expected damage should not be too noticable for general gameplay. - Infinite - talk 23:06, 25 April 2020 (UTC)
The elementalist elite is practically just an elite version of Iron Mist, which works on any spell because it's bugged, and is still not overpowered. --DANDY ^_^ -- 23:17, 25 April 2020 (UTC) ?
It has been suggested that the elementalist elite was meant to reduce overcast instead of generating it infinitely, which would make a LOT more sense. Either way, thank y'all at Anet for putting this out! --Smiley™ de: user | talk 22:58, 28 April 2020 (UTC)

Great job with the patch today. Thank you. --DANDY ^_^ -- 23:50, 30 April 2020 (UTC)

Quick Question About Spirits[edit]

Hi. I'm aware that there is no active development on Guild Wars anymore; I am wondering if you could pose this question to the development team to see if it could be feasible. This update from 2007 removed 50 base health from all binding rituals. It was done out of concern for PvP balance during the state of the game at that time. Since that update occurred, Guild Wars would have another 5 years of active development, during which time the power levels of many skills increased significantly in both PvE and PvP. The current damage medium in PvP is significantly higher than what it was in 2007. Could the 50 health that was removed from binding rituals be restored for just their PvP versions? I don't think it would be imbalanced, and I think it would help out the Ritualist in PvP, which doesn't see as much use as other classes. Soldier198-2 (talk) 20:24, 2 September 2021 (UTC)
