So nobody thought Auron (talk • contribs • logs • block log) blocking Silven (talk • contribs • logs • block log) was a little out of line? 3 weeks for this? Where's the attack? But Adrin's overt attack goes unchecked? Hmm... Protect Shard and ignore Adrin? Why would Auron do that?

- Read the license of this site. And try to achive a consensus before claiming one. Current consensus if for a split, you need to achive one for the removal of gameplahy content before you have a new one. In addition, do read 1rr before reporting people in an attempt to get your way in a content dispute. Backsword 04:26, 22 December 2010 (UTC)

- WHile we have no policy against it, moving an ongoig discussion into an archive and then claiming consensus is rather abusive. A consensus it is not. This, however, is not an admin issue. Unless you make more false acusations, you will have to take that idscussion elsewhere. Backsword 04:35, 22 December 2010 (UTC)

Formal complaint
This is a formal complaint against JonTheMon for wrongly, repeatedly, and knowingly extending a block (currently listed in the block as user 68.182.128.0/17) against them for circumstances beyond their control. And by repeatedly extending this block, also restricting the ability to discuss this with anyone (including people other than him) except by forcing them to bascially bypass the restriction and thereby making them have to revert to "bypassing it" to even be heard.
As was posted on Jon's talk page, the ISP used changes the number issued on their own, through no control of the end user. The block reason is listed as "trying to circumvent existing block", and yet, Jon is forcing this to happen if people want to try to explain things. This may be how the system works, but if so, that needs to be adjusted so that people who are wrongly blocked can at least attempt to explain the circumstances, if they feel the need to. Knowing how Jon has been operating, this will probably be seen as an attempt "to circumvent existing block" and will once again, wrongly, get that block extended. 208.47.163.98 18:16, 30 December 2010 (UTC)
- If you're aware you're banned, you shouldn't attempt to post until the ban is over, regardless of whether your IP changes or not. That's just common sense. Circumventing a ban is never necessary to contact admins to appeal a ban. If you had an account, the wiki software allows you to e-mail a user who has their options set up to receive them, and even without an account, bcrats have their e-mails publicly available. - Tanetris 18:37, 30 December 2010 (UTC)

Security lapse?
I was vanity googling my own (real) name today, and one of the links that popped up was http://wiki.guildwars.com/index.php?title=Savannah_Heat&action=creativecommons Worryingly, the appending of "creativecommons" to the url appears to be generating an unstyled xml list that includes users' real names and email addresses. I've tried that on other pages I've edited and my real name appears on all of them. Eek? --snograt 07:18, 17 March 2011 (UTC)
- Ok, panic averted (thanks, Auron!). My real name is listed in my prefs, and anybody who does the same will have their real name generated on lists such as these. The emails only appear if people are daft enough to put their email address in the real name field! Just blank it out if it scares you :) --snograt 07:38, 17 March 2011 (UTC)
- Would it be worth adding a one-time sitenotice for a few days just so people know about this and can change it? If there's a MediaWiki page for the real name instructions, that should be changed to highlight this too. -- pling 17:59, 17 March 2011 (UTC)
- Site notice? Mebbe. It's not a new issue, though, just one of which few people's are aware. Updating the instructions on preferences is a good idea, if its possible. — Tennessee Ernie Ford (TEF) 19:02, 17 March 2011 (UTC)
- Soz, Snog, I didn't mean to minimize the risk to privacy (or the shock to seeing one's real name popup unexpectedly). My concern about a site notice is that it's alarming (as you discovered), but we can't really do much about it; the data is out there (cached). But if other people's want to see a site notice anyway, I can live with that. — Tennessee Ernie Ford (TEF) 15:36, 18 March 2011 (UTC)

Hi I have a render of Keiran Thackeray. One considered official, like ripped from the game and rendered in a 3D program. Potential problem
Auron has been attacking me instead of responding to my arguments in several instances on Guild Wars Wiki:Elections/2011-06_bureaucrat_election/Aiiane, in particular saying things such as "I doubt anyone takes anything you say remotely seriously." and "You are not the first troll to attempt to disrupt bcrat elections." Besides violating the tenet of assuming good faith by implying I act to disrupt and damage the wiki, he is also attempting to discredit my arguments by attacking my character, which is directly prohibited by GWW:NPA. I have already requested that he respond to the comment instead of the commentator, which he only partially heeded, and he's also attempted to quash discussion by threatening bans, so I ask that administrators review the situation. elix Omni 00:08, 18 June 2011 (UTC)

Nicholas the Traveler on the main page broken each new year's
the DPL magic on the main page to display nicholas' item gets broken for a few days every time a year rolls around. I think I've found the issue: Template:Nicholas the Traveler research.mainpage uses "W Y" as a dateformat, Weeknumber and Year, e.g. "52 2010" for the last week in 2010. The first days of a new year still belong to the same week, but the next year, so january first, 2011 turns to "52 2011". According to the php documentation there's an "o" parameter:
- "ISO-8601 year number. This has the same value as Y, except that if the ISO week number (W) belongs to the previous or next year, that year is used instead. (added in PHP 5.1.0)"
By changing the date format from "W Y" to "W o", this issue should be resolved. See the difference, before: 52 2011, after: 52 2010.
Since I can't change that template, I'll have to ask an admin to do so. It needs to be replaced in both invocations of the #time template. Thanks! Tub 14:47, 6 July 2011 (UTC)

Oroku
So, there's a Factions crafter and an ally in WoC both named Oroku. I put a move notice at the top of the existing Oroku page (which is about the crafter) because I thought the ally should be the default article. At least one person objected, and noone has agreed with me, so no consensus for moving has been reached. However, Falconeye has now moved both Orokus to their own pages, Oroku (crafter) and Oroku (Ministry of Purity). I want to undo this because there's no consensus yet, but I can't because the Oroku page still exists -- at least without manual copy-and-pasting. Can a nice admin do the moving for me? -- Hong 17:39, 10 July 2011 (UTC)
Signet of Spirits — time for a new approach?
In the past 12 months, there have been 83 edits to Signet of Spirits.
- Only 6 edits have been of substance; each of those edits was made by a registered user (Silver Edge 2x, TEF 3x, JP 1x).
- 3 of the edits have been protecting the page against vandalism.
- The remainder (74) have been vandalistic removal of the Fear/Anger/Hate trivia...or undoing of the same. (In case it doesn't go without saying, all of the vandalism has been done by anonymous editors.)
I know the wiki has a strong policy about being open to any contributors, but I think this page has become an attractive nuisance. When over 90% of the effort involved in an article is graffiti or its cleanup, it's worth considering whether we should treat this page differently. — Tennessee Ernie Ford (TEF) 08:36, 11 July 2011 (UTC)

Personal attacks
Armond (talk • contribs • logs • block log) and Nathe (talk • contribs • logs • block log) - at User talk:Nathe#Well done! and Feedback talk:Stephane Lo Presti#About the official blog. Jon gave a general warning and Rainith blocked some IPs (88.152.25.23 (talk • contribs • logs • block log) and 24.130.140.36 (talk • contribs • logs • block log)), but they're bureacurats and probably don't want to get more involved than they already are. Anyway, as far as I know, IPs shouldn't get blocked quicker and for doing less than other users, so I thought I'd bring this up here. pling 17:07, 17 July 2011 (UTC)
- Auron has addressed this, at least partially. Sorry I did not see the post a couple of sections up. G R E E N E R 01:54, 18 July 2011 (UTC)
- Just as a note, I blocked the two IPs as I saw their posts as simply trolling, not because they were IPs. The other two posts (by Vili and Nathe) in that particular section which posted after Jon gave his warning were not (IMO) trolling posts. --Rainith 00:53, 19 July 2011 (UTC)
- There are two separate issues: trolling (vs. simply being hardheaded in pursuing a topic) and personal and/or vitriolic attacks (rather than simply using heated rhetoric to passionate express one's views). Perhaps it matters if trolling takes place before or after an official warning. For some attacks, I'm not sure that a warning is should be required before administrative action (depending on the nature of the attack).
- Since the topic of this section is personal attacks, perhaps Greener and/or Rainith can review the convos mentioned by Pling to ensure that, if there were violations of GWW:NPA, that any individual offenders have already received some sort of appropriate censure or punishment. Battle Isle Iced Tea
Un-protecting it, not the best idea. --Briar AHOY! 02:00, 18 July 2011 (UTC)
- Protection (generally) runs out for a reason. The more that page gets edited, the more notifications I'll get. As it stands, I do not see a current need to re-protect the page. G R E E N E R 02:11, 18 July 2011 (UTC)
- Please consider re-protecting: the issue hasn't (alas) yet died down and the edit summaries are already including vitriolic personal attacks. (I would also ask that the IPs making those attacks be suspended from editing for those violations of GWW:NPA.)— Tennessee Ernie Ford (TEF) 04:29, 18 July 2011 (UTC)
- Isn't there more harm in leaving the page unprotected than allowing the current situation to continue? At the moment, IPs are continuing an edit war about a previously discussed/decided issue and (worse), they are using it to attack individuals without even a pretext of a reason. — Tennessee Ernie Ford (TEF) 04:43, 18 July 2011 (UTC)
- I wouldn't mind a week long prot, but the issue seems to have died down (knocks on wood) with the range ban. The page was quiet for a few weeks after the prot had expired, I think that the issue today was probably more a "crime of opportunity" than anything else. --Riddle 04:53, 18 July 2011 (UTC)

Request for temporary (or permanent) semi-prots
With the current vandal storm, perhaps it's time to semi-protect templates that
- Are vital (or perhaps only important) to the health of the wiki
- Have not changed in aeons or should not change without careful consensus/analysis.
For example, these templates were vandalized over the last 12-24 hours: Nicholas the Traveler/Collector, Template:Infobox campaign row,Template:Ec, Template:Gr, Template:Gray. Each of these vandalisms has repercussions on dozens if not hundreds of pages... or dozens/hundreds of page views. None of these are likely to need tweaking, so semi-protecting them poses no particular burden on anon editors. (We registered contributors can cause plenty of template trouble all on our own.) — Tennessee Ernie Ford (TEF) 17:29, 25 July 2011 (UTC)
- Perhaps also protecting the old updates from Arenanet? 72.148.31.114 17:39, 25 July 2011 (UTC)
- Protecting only those templates will just send the bots over to other templates. I suggest protecting any template that falls under the second category. -- Armond Warblade 17:57, 25 July 2011 (UTC)

- If templates are being targetted heavily, I'd like to add Template:Image label, Template:Image label begin, Template:Image label end, and Template:Dynamic map label (interactive map templates) to the list of those to protect (or at least semi-protect so I can edit them :P). Thanks. ~FarloTalk 21:04, 25 July 2011 (UTC)

Another history hide request
This edit has someone's full name, IP, and talks about credit card changes, might not be the best thing to have floating around on the Wiki... ~FarloTalk 00:45, 2 August 2011 (UTC)
