Default Cursor Locations
So I searched through the archives here, and was unable to find an answer. My question is pretty simple: Is there any way to make the default cursor location the search box? Every time you type something in, hit enter, the search box cursor is lost. I tend to search for a lot of things in quick succession, so I have something vested in knowing if there is a viable solution within the wiki. I imagine that I'm not the only one who finds this to be irritating, especially given the usability of other search sites. 22+ shift tabs is just a little too much. --Axis 09:28, 2 January 2011 (UTC)
- Uhm, if you really want that, you could add the following to your monobook.js:
addOnloadHook( function(){ document.getElementById( 'searchInput' ).focus(); } );
- Otherwise I would object changing something like that for every users. I usually expect wikis to not focus on the search but instead want my firefox to search the page when I start typing something. If you look for a quicker solution in switching pages, I would suggest you to add a GWW search box to your browser where you can just search by entering the term. Usually you can access that box using CTRL+K in all major browsers. For me, that's the most powerful setting. poke | talk 16:07, 2 January 2011 (UTC)
- If you want to search the wiki, you can use
[CTRL][SHIFT] + [ALT] + F, which places the cursor in the search field. — Tennessee Ernie Ford (TEF) 17:43, 2 January 2011 (UTC)

- You can tag pages for deletion using policies from GWW:DELETE. If you're talking about pages in your user-space, you can tag them with
U1: User request.
. You will have to wait for an admin to come along and do the actual deletion of the page, which are often done when Guild Wars Wiki:List of candidates for deletion gets too long. - This page can help you find the pages you have in your user space. G R E E N E R 08:44, 7 January 2011 (UTC)

I use Google Chrome now but when I try and search on GWW I cannot click in the search box. I have to hit 'go' or 'search' then use the search page... any ideas?Kraal Fardale 11:46, 7 January 2011 (UTC)
- Just seen the [SHIFT] + [ALT] + F solution above/ this is a helpful work around but I'm a mouse hogger. I'd prefer if we could get the click solution sorted... Kraal Fardale 12:48, 7 January 2011 (UTC)

- weird! if i click the search box, nothing happens but, if i click just above, on the word 'search' it puts the cursor in the box... figure that one out :D :D Kraal Fardale 17:00, 9 January 2011 (UTC)
- Some things you might want to check.
- Does this happen on every page? Certain pages have bad coding which causes issues with the search box.
- Does this only happen on wiki? Certain skins may not work well which Chrome. Are you using the default settings?
- Is it remotely possible that you're having some sort of alignment issues? "click just above, on the word search..." What sort of display are you using? A standard monitor?
- Is your display set to it's native resolution, or something higher/lower than that? Having a resolution other than the native resolution set can cause some odd issues.
- Do you have Google Chrome updated to the most recent version? Hotfixes for browsers are released on a quite frequent basis, so sometimes you have to update your browser (manually), and other times you may have to install a new version altogether. Typically, browsers inform you of this automatically, but I'm not familiar with Chrome.
- Do you have any sort of unsupported, third-party plug-ins installed and enabled which may be causing the issue?
- Hopefully some of this can be helpful at identifying the source of your problem, although it sounds like you've managed to find a sufficient solution for now. Ryuu - lol wiki 13:51, 14 January 2011 (UTC)
where do I go to suggest a change to a wiki-wide convention?
I know there's Guild Wars Wiki:Requests for comment to kick the process off, but I can't really find a page where to start the post to link to on that page. What I intend to do is see what other editors think of the idea of changing the way the wiki words ascendant status for Elonian characters.
Pick any page that has a requirement where "you must be Ascended, Weh no Su or have completed the quest Hunted!" but to link a few, The Underworld, Fissure of Woe, and to prove it's not just the end-game stuff, Secondary profession. They all say the same thing, "you must have completed the quest Hunted!", I think it sounds a little off-putting, don't you? I mean look at the other two, they both sound awesome and important, a significant achievement, but for the other one, oh, you just need to have finished a simple quest. Now I know it's trying to prevent spoilers, but still, it's pretty obvious it's going to happen anyway. You're already moving up in the ranks with your Sunspear title track, and I fail to see how "or become the Leader of the Sunspears", which would link to the Hunted! quest page, would be any bigger of a spoiler than knowing you're eventually going to Ascend or become Weh no Su.
Anyway, there actually isn't a page for general ascension status, Ascended links to the Prophecies version of it and notes the other campaigns, but still, it's sort of also a formatting concern and might go there. So I'm wondering, where should I put the page to start off the debate? - Cymril 04:52, 16 January 2011 (UTC)
- That's because being "Ascended" is something that happens in Prophecies (to Prophecies characters). Achieving Weh no Su happens in Factions (to Factions characters), but Elonian characters simply have to complete the quest Hunted!. I don't see any reason to change how it's documented, as it seems accurate the way it is. -- Wyn talk 05:08, 16 January 2011 (UTC)
- There's a gazillion ways to phrase things accurately. Unfortunately, I can't think of anything parallel to Ascending or Achieving WnS — unhunted? We could use establish the Command Post, but that is slightly misleading. — Tennessee Ernie Ford (TEF) 07:07, 16 January 2011 (UTC)
- I'm not saying there's any problems with how it's documented, I just think it lacks gravitas and is a little out of place, having Prophecies and Faction characters with a specific title and wording to describe their status, but leaving Nightfall character out with simply having to complete a quest. Why not have it "Tyrian characters must have completed the mission Augury Rock, Cathan characters must have finished the mission Nahpui Quarter, and Elonian characters must have completed the quest Hunted!" for consistency, other than the fact that it's a shorter sentence. All I'm saying is, it's a little out of place. "important, story relevant title, important, story relevant title, finish a quest".
Tennessee, yeah, I admit, it's a prickly issue, which is why I want to open it up to debate. - Cymril 07:17, 16 January 2011 (UTC)

- To answer the actual question of where to put the discussion: just pick the most relevant article's talk page. I'd say Talk:Hunted! would be a pretty good place in this case. - Tanetris 07:24, 16 January 2011 (UTC)

Menu translation of the french canadian language
- → moved from User talk:Greener
Hi Greener, I don't really know to who ask this, but I wanted to change the name of the different link from the menu (take a look at what I talk here [1]. Note that is it from the GW2 wiki but it is the same as GW wiki) because the translation that have been made are incorrect, bad or missing. For example : Search, wich mean "chercher" in french, is translate "charcher". It is the equivalent of someone that say "gunna" in english, it is ok to use it when you speak but not in write. So I want to know if it is possible to change it in some kind of way. I could make the translation and gives it to some one who can do it. Thanks, Lytalm 17:51, 07 February 2011 (UTC)
- I will move this to a more general discussion area so those who have a stronger knowledge of the wiki's structure can respond. As for the French that we use, we should be aiming for Parisian French as it is the standard taught and written in Canada (Quebec and NB holding some possible exceptions, to which I am not an expert). So yes, changing the search button to read "Chercher" seems to be proper. --The preceding unsigned comment was added by User:Greener (talk).
- Thanks for the answer and the move, I hope someone will be able to help me! Lytalm 21:26, 07 February 2011 (UTC)
- I am assuming you have set your language preferences to frc-French Canadian in Media Wiki. Unfortunately, we have no control over the dictionary that is being used for the translation, so I don't believe it's going to be possible to do this. Sorry. Maybe someone will have a different idea. -- Wyn talk 01:25, 8 February 2011 (UTC)
- Ok, thanks Wynthyst. I will try to contact directly MediaWiki to see if it is possible to change it! Lytalm 01:51, 8 February 2011 (UTC)
Collections Extension and Special:Books
I couldn't find a proper place to ask this, so I am asking here, but I wanted to make a suggestion/request for the wiki in general.
Is there anyway that the Collections Extension could be installed into the GW and GW2 wikis? Primarily GW, because it would be really nice to be able to export pages into a PDF for offline reading (like for a Kindle or any other eReader.
http://www.mediawiki.org/wiki/Extension:Collection -- A link to the extension
http://wiki.services.openoffice.org/wiki/Special:Book -- An example of a working implementation.
This extension was made by PediaPress, and through them you can even convert an entire wiki into a physical book.
But PDF is enough. If combo'd with 2 other extensions you can even export to DocBook XML and ODF (opendocument), allowing for conversion to other formats from those to like EPUD or Mobi which makes it even better for eReaders and the like.
A perfect example could be the Lore section of the wiki, and add in all the sub-pages to to make a good amount of reading offline. [Daegalus - talk] 23:03, 9 February 2011 (UTC)
- See Guild Wars Wiki:Requests for technical administration. --Silver Edge 21:53, 13 February 2011 (UTC)
- I would guess the answer to this is pretty much no, as these sorts of things create copyright issues. GFDL requires attribution for content, which is automatically provided through page histories, but this export does not include. There is also the ArenaNet copyright to be considered. I would guess they will not approve of anything that could potentially be used to create something that could be sold (don't laugh, I've seen guides that would be much like what you are talking about for sale for other games on Ebay). -- Wyn talk 03:06, 15 February 2011 (UTC)
WIK "Royal Gift/Drop rate"
How often (if ever) is the data file "Royal Gift/Drop rate" updated for totals and percentages? I note a significant amount of activity on this and other similar files, but no update for almost (or maybe more than) a year.Undouble 23:01, 14 February 2011 (UTC)
- I suspect many people that would update the page have finished War in Kryta so can't get anymore gifts. If i could understand the page, I would have updated it-but i finished War in Kryta a few days after Battle for Lions Arch was released. --Burning Freebies 23:06, 14 February 2011 (UTC)
- I updated it. It was only off by 188 so the percentages did not really change much. Since we have accumulated so much data, unless they make an adjustment to the drop rate, I would guess these are pretty accurate percentages. It had also just been updated on Feb 1, 2011, so why you believed it hadn't been updated for a year is beyond me. WiK wasn't even around a year ago.-- Wyn talk 02:59, 15 February 2011 (UTC)

Maybe it's not the best place for this question, but anyway. Does somebody know who is responsible for GuildWarsWiki account on Twitter? Every day they post the info about Zaishen activities, but information about current Zaishen Mission is wrong for a several days. Unique Item Lists
I've been trying to find some unique items that correspond to desired weapon stats, and it's been...difficult, at best. The only unique item listings here that I can find are the category lists, which don't have the individual stats on the page (I have to click on each item to see them). It would be really good to have a "List of Unique Daggers" page, or whatever, and that has all the stats in a big table. This might be possible to do with DPL (hard because the stats aren't in a template, if they weren't I'd probably be able to make the page easily enough), alternatively it could be done with Semantic MediaWiki (which isn't installed). Anyone have any other ideas on how to make this a reality? Surgo 14:20, 23 March 2011 (UTC)

So I've been editing various pages without an account for a bit and recently I figured I might as well make an actual account on the wiki, so I just did that recently. The thing is, all my past contributions are still on this page and I don't see a way to merge those contributions with this account even after looking at the FAQ and other pages. Signature Preferences - Bad Input
I keep getting a message along the lines of this whenever I try to update my signature:
"Bad Input - We're sorry - the server could not accept your request. Often this is due to too many characters such as (symbols) being used. - Can you post the signature code you're trying to use, here? (preferably encased in <code> or <pre> tags, so the exact coding can be viewed.) - That's the code I'm trying to change it to, whereas normally it's:

- So yeah, I don't know what's wrong. Even if I tried changing it to or something, it wouldn't work. -- Lacky 13:44, 3 April 2011 (UTC)
- try moving the bold markers, e.g.
<font color="Black"> -- </font>
<font color="Black"> -- </font>
- also try combining the tags at the end,
<span style="font-family:Calibri; color:#0104c6; >Lacky</span>
- None of those should work, but I've found that, when there are odd errors, it helps to simplify the code. — Tennessee Ernie Ford (TEF)
- For a bit of code that does work fine, try this:
<span style="color:black; font-weight:bold;">--</span>
- It's worth noting that the <font> tag is outdated, the <span> tag replacing all of its functions. I have, on occasion, had issues with MediaWiki not accepting <font color="#ffffff"> in a signature, but working perfectly once it was replaced with <span style="color: #ffffff;"> instead. In this particular instance, it appears that the bold was causing the issue (the error mentions that multiples of certain characters cause issues), so I was able to replace this with the <span> version of this. It's a bit longer than your original code, but hey, it functions.
- In this particular instance, it's also worth noting that the error was in fact not on MediaWiki's end, but the server's other software; I don't know much about the setup, but poke seems to be on the money with it.
- And last but not least, you can shave a bit off the code if you cut out the color: line (since by default - unless you're using some sort of custom CSS - the text should be black already). -- Jïörüjï Ðērākō.>.cнаt^ 23:39, 4 April 2011 (UTC)
- I just tried your suggestion, using:
<span style="color:black; font-weight:bold;"> --</span>
- however, it still comes up with the error, unfortunately. -- Lacky 08:43, 5 April 2011 (UTC)
- That is odd; I would imagine it's the spaces that are causing the issue, since that's the only difference between my code and yours (and I can confirm that the one I posted works).
- ...even more odd, I just copied and pasted the code you just posted, and that also works fine in my own preferences. If that's the case, it appears to be something on your end then that the server isn't liking; either the server's got some personal vendetta against you, or maybe something you're posting is getting converted to unicode or the like? I've no idea what the fix would be, since I've been able to replicate your error messages up until this point. -- Jïörüjï Ðērākō.>.cнаt^ 16:46, 5 April 2011 (UTC)
- however, it still comes up with the error, unfortunately. -- Lacky 08:43, 5 April 2011 (UTC)
- Three more things to try: (1) try logging in using a different browser or computer (in case there's something going on with your cookies). (2) Toggle Treat signature as wikitext (without an automatic link) (if it's on, turn it off and vice versa). (3) Restore your preference defaults, then change just the signature text (and reconfigure your prefs again if this works).
- These are all any-port-in-a-storm type of ideas; they shouldn't work, but sometimes do. — Tennessee Ernie Ford (TEF) 16:54, 5 April 2011 (UTC)
- I still am having no luck at successfully updating my preferences. This is very weird. -- Lacky 05:15, 8 April 2011 (UTC)
- TEF, I'm pretty sure it's a server-side bug. I've been having to deal with this bug for a while now. --Riddle 05:26, 8 April 2011 (UTC)

I'd like to start clearing somm'a my old suggestion pages out of the category-space but I'd like to preserve the history of one or two of the actual pages (IE: a direct page Move) in some other area so they won't show up in the category anymore. Where's the best place to do that? Can I just make an extension of my "http://wiki.guildwars.com/wiki/Feedback:User" area? --ilr 22:48, 2 April 2011 (UTC)
- Since the Feedback section is handled under a different licence, I do not think it would be proper to move it directly to a place outside of the Feedback area (i.e. your User space). Perhaps you could move them to Feedback:User/Ilr/Historical suggestions, and make sure you don't apply the feedback template to it? Then you can just add a link on Feedback:User/Ilr to them if you wish. G R E E N E R 01:11, 5 April 2011 (UTC)
April skills question
Where can I find more information about the Ranger Skills mentioned in the April Updates? The two skills I am interested in is Revive as One and Charm Monster. These skills where mentioned in the April Updates but I can not find them anywhere else in the Wiki. --The preceding unsigned comment was added by User:Falln711 (talk).
- I assume you were looking at this page. You may want to look at its associated talk-page as well as this encyclopedic entry. G R E E N E R 07:57, 10 April 2011 (UTC)
Ambient Animals
- → moved from Talk:Ambient Animals
Say why isn't there a page for all the Ambient Animals if I my ask? Like Cat, Crab, Bat, Pig, Turtle, Hen and so on? I could make them but it seems like Cat is already deleted ones. So I decided to ask first. -- † Roach Talk 06:07, 30 May 2010 (UTC)
Help : Skill Revision History
I'm looking for a better way of investigating skill changes through the history of guild wars since release. (not really interested in pre release beta at the moment)
My question is: While searching, often the search field will pre-populate with "Example Skill (history)" Can skill history be an additional column on Example Profession Skills page? Perhaps next to Campaign? .
In an effort to become better informed as I only started playing casually 2 years ago and seriously within the last year; I found it initially invaluable to use sites such as this page in addition to here learning how and why certain skills complimented each other and gaining a broader perspective of meta conditions in the game. While I now only glance on PvX, I find myself hungering for a different "why" and that is to understand what skills were changed, how, etc. across all professions and not just in the most recent update, but through the history from release. Is this possible outside of the occasional search pre-populate? Would it be possible to have a column (if all the information does exist) on Example Profession Skills that links directly to "X" skill's revision history without clicking on the skill, scrolling to the bottom of the page, and hoping to see: This skill has changed from its original version "Link" is present? Thank you. New to wiki, still trying to learn how and where to post. I hope to be far more active and helpful in the future.--Andra 06:48, 25 April 2011 (UTC)
- Edit: If it is a matter of just coding the column and data entering the internal links to each skill's revision history, I volunteer to start the process myself once I better understand 1.)where/how to find the skill histories and 2.)learn how to alter the tables correctly--Andra 06:48, 25 April 2011 (UTC)
- Edit 2: I just located Help:Table editing and am fairly confident I could make the above happen, just need a better way to find all of the skill revision histories please. --Andra 07:09, 25 April 2011 (UTC)
- Category:Skill histories should be what you're looking for, in regards to finding all of the skill revision histories. -- Jïörüjï Ðērākō.>.cнаt^ 07:33, 25 April 2011 (UTC)
(Edit conflict)
- There's no comprehensive list. We only started adding skill histories relatively recently. And we only recently started using consistent language to point to the skill history pages from the primary page. There's a stale project page that covers this: Guild_Wars_Wiki:Projects/Skill_history. — Tennessee Ernie Ford (TEF) 07:35, 25 April 2011 (UTC)
- I see the problem. While I'd love to get the project back off the ground, I fear that GW2's approach is perhaps far too swift to make meaningful headway on a project so long mothballed. I thank you both for the reply.--Andra 08:09, 25 April 2011 (UTC)
- The project page is stale, but there's been a lot of recent progress. Mostly, if a skill was changed in a recent update, we have a skill history (and 90% certain we have standard language). If a skill was changed long ago, we probably don't have a skill history.
- If I was going to jumpstart the project, I would do something like this:
- systematically identify the game updates articles that point to skills
- create /skill history pages (for those that need 'em) and mark the page with a temporary category:skill history stubs
- copy the official text referring to the change and paste into the relevant history articles
- review the history of the skill page article to copy the skill info box and paste that onto the history article
- ensure that the primary skill article has the standard text pointing to the history page
- destub
- I imagine if (1) was completed (or even 25% done), there are lots of others that would work on (2)-(6). — Tennessee Ernie Ford (TEF) 08:22, 25 April 2011 (UTC)
- GuildWiki has skill histories all the way back to the beginning of the game, although due to the way they do things it's harder to see (as far as I know). You have to add "Template:" before a skill's name, then click through the difs in history. For example: [2], then click the "history" tab, then click on "prev" links. As for why skills are changed, there's the Developer Updates page on the official site, where the developers go through their reasons for changing skills. Manifold 15:20, 25 April 2011 (UTC)
- If I was going to jumpstart the project, I would do something like this:
User Subpages
How do I create a user subpage?--Elementalmen 00:44, 27 April 2011 (UTC)
- An easy way is to create a link from you main page User:Elementalmen and (in preview mode or after saving) visit the link, e.g. User:Elementalmen/Sandbox. That will give you the option to create the new page...and make it easy to check spelling etc. — Tennessee Ernie Ford (TEF) 00:49, 27 April 2011 (UTC)

Coding Problem.
So, I'm attempting to make templates to standardize and simplify navigation templates, everything's good so far, but I have one minor issue.
In my template here, you can see that I've set a switch parameter to change the margins based on whether or not a row is a content row or not.
In testing, this template should be exactly consistent to the template design that appears here. Which, by all accounts, it is.
However, the margin parameter appears to be working incorrectly as you can see here, or perhaps it isn't looking at all.
(Expand the columns, compare it to the actual tonic navigation. If you remove the margin style from the actual navigation, the result is the same)
After trouble shooting the issue for quite some time, I was hoping maybe someone could take a quick look and point out an obvious error for me.
If it's of any help (or somehow, is the problem itself), the core template can be found here.
Thanks. Ryuu - lol wiki 23:21, 1 May 2011 (UTC)
- On another note, I'm unsure how to create a template for the following (used to make collapsible columns)
class="{{#ifeq: {{lc:{}}}|<value>|collapsible|expandable}}
- If it's even possible. Making a template with a parameter in a template that you don't want to use the parameter on, but rather pages the templates are used on. (Yeah, I'm sorry, that's poor wording, but I'm sure you know what I'm getting at.) How2? Is there a way around it if it isn't possible?
- Again, thanks. Ryuu - lol wiki 23:27, 1 May 2011 (UTC)

Map Icons
Hi there, I'm currently making some new maps for Securing Echovald Forest, but I'd like to know if there are some general files for markers like the green Quest star that appears on minimaps during quests that I could use. --File:User Chieftain Alex Chieftain Signature.pngChieftain Alex 00:39, 17 May 2011 (UTC)
- I may be late, but I think you can find most of those on the Mission Map page, if not, hop on with Texmod and capture the texture and upload it for us :D ~Farlo Talk 19:17, 31 May 2011 (UTC)

Landmark lists got broken
Was the wiki recently updated, the platform it runs on?
I notice there is now a legend and tooltips on M (minor change). Such could be the result of update. So was it? And any info on what the update was so I can look/find other changed things?

Confirm your e-mail address doesn't seem to work
I've been trying to confirm my email address (also asked to resend the email) but I don't receive a mail. It worked fine with the "other" wiki ... . And it's not in the spam folder either. ;)
Haven't seen that problem mentioned on the FAQ so here I am. Steve1 21:34, 11 June 2011 (UTC)
- It may take a while to receive. Check/double check the email address you entered, and give it some time. If it hasn't gotten itself to you in an hour, then something else is going on; do let us know. G R E E N E R 21:43, 11 June 2011 (UTC)
