These are special items that only drop during annual Wintersday events. They are used to make candy cane weapons, and can be acquired during the celebrations by completing Wintersday quests, trading from Wintersday collectors, and killing regular monsters, which occasionally drop shards. You can also aquire candy cane shards from playing the snowball fight during the Wintersday event. During Wintersday 2006 a collector for shards was added after the finale. He gave 1 Wintersday Gift for 5 Candy Cane Shards.

In Wintersday 2007, the Candy Canes Collectors were added in the beginning of the event, being available at all decorated towns.

• Wintersday Gift Giver will give a Wintersday Gift in exchange for 5 shards.
• Candysmiths will give Candy Cane Weapons in exchange for 9 shards.
• Candysmith Marley will give candy offhands in exchange for 12 shards.

• Candy Cane Shards can also be found in Pre-Searing Ascalon, even if there aren't any Candy Cane smiths in this part of the game. Players interested in using these shards to acquire Candy Cane Weapons must leave the Pre-Searing area.
