Its ok since you answered the question too. If you do get the "warning: edit conflict" message, then usually your stuff will be in the bottom editing pane, and the inbetween edit will show in the top editing pane - if two submit at the same time, it just ignores the middle one :P
You should be using wiki links though, e.g.
Main page
will take you to the Main Page. You can view what another user wrote by clicking on the History tab to the right of the edit button, and then clicking on any of the edits. Guild Wars Wiki:Projects/AI skills usage

Hi Alex. Could you help me with a DPL by professions in the same way you did for the images projects? User Yoshida Keiji Signature.jpg Yoshida Keiji talk 06:58, 23 May 2012 (UTC)

I'd need a clear detailed description of what you want. File:User Chieftain Alex Chieftain Signature.jpg Chieftain Alex 07:10, 23 May 2012 (UTC)
A list like Guild Wars Wiki:Projects/Images needed/list that sorts my newly created template () by professions, if it's possible with skill icons to the side for better visual identification. The same way we have been tagging with template image update, it should automaticaly display its sorting. The number of columns doesn't matter to me as long as all skills are not listed together. Or a hero version of this list List_of_elite_skills_by_profession would be awesome but seems a lot of work. User Yoshida Keiji Signature.jpg Yoshida Keiji talk 07:40, 23 May 2012 (UTC)

Lil help with Defend Droknar's Forge Hard Mode

Hi,

I saw you stated you completed the mission, must have been a beast! I have used consets and tried different builds for my hero's and myself. I have a Ranger that I tend to have a build around Barrage. My other heroes are your typical from Prophecies and EOTN. I saw your acronyms for the builds you used, but I am sort of new to the various builds they are. Any sage advice would be appreciated as far as good builds and what they specifically are. Thanks in advance! --The preceding unsigned comment was added by Angaels (talk) at 04:16, 15 June 2012 (UTC).

Yeah it takes ages (shorter than running to eastern frontier for the ascalon hm one from ToA though), and possibly the same difficulty as Defend North Kryta Province (awful npc protection..)

Ok you'll have noticed that there are only 5 hero builds there. (I honestly don't recall the other hero, but I think it was probably Powerblock with Mistrust.) and I brought another human with me as a source of Save yourselves.
Titans hit super hard, so Soul Twisting rit is the way to go imo, and the +100 armor from save yourselves will help immensely.
Stopping Backbreaker titan warriors from knocking out your heroes with displacement/ineptitude/clumsiness is probably a good idea. Micro these spirits before aggro, spaced out.
Xinrae's Weapon necro - minimises damage taken as a result of hits.
Signet of Spirits rit - I'm honestly not sure if ritualist spirits are worth taking anymore, but it offers some much needed spiritwall to take some of the damage for your party, (and I think they help trigger daze interrupts too).
Broad Head Arrow - important hero in my opinion, micro it onto the Hearts of the Titans and they shouldn't be able to cast anything :) Use Drain Enchantment on Shield of Absorption.
Spoil Victor almost always triggers due to titans having over 1k health.
I could imagine it might be possible to put Save Yourselves and Broad Head Arrow on the same bar, in which case bring dwarven stability to use with lightning reflexes.
For cons, I didn't use them but armor of salvation would be a good idea. Bring absolutely loads of dp removers for your team and yourself.
As for the route.. the south path in Mineral Springs is probably a better idea than the north (I've done both routes and the north takes longer), the difficult thing about the south path is the titan group immediately as you enter mineral springs (you might want to head north to the rez shrine, kill the titans, then work your way east.
As for the final fight, flag heroes way back with spirits microed, pull the mob, run away superfast until the titans break aggro and start returning. Setup your spirits and party at this "aggro breaking" line. Procede the pull the titans again and slowly pick them off, try to bodyblock titans that try to return against the wall. I've currently not got gw installed so am unable to help in game :/File:User Chieftain Alex Chieftain Signature.jpg Chieftain Alex 09:58, 15 June 2012 (UTC)

More DPL fixes

Hi Alex. Today I stomped on Guild Wars Wiki:Projects/Skill history which has a DPL for every profession...but the list is failing...as with the others... the current set-up only lists with yes and no which skill pages do or not have a history sub-page. The problem here is that it won't exactly tell if each of the skill main pages "has" actually been updated with the latest rebalance. Which technically nullfills its purpose.

I think a more efficient list would be one that would include skill pages which contain a tag such as: history update needed.User Yoshida Keiji Signature.jpg Yoshida Keiji talk 09:37, 23 June 2012 (UTC)

Unfortunately the DPL manual has been unavailable for the last month due to a corrupt server, so I don't actually know what the parameter is for lasteditdate, but I can make a few guesses. I don't think adding another template should be the right answer tbh. File:User Chieftain Alex Chieftain Signature.jpg Chieftain Alex 09:48, 23 June 2012 (UTC)
Apparently DPL manual still has trojans but it is online. I'll look into it further this afternoon. File:User Chieftain Alex Chieftain Signature.jpg Chieftain Alex 10:15, 23 June 2012 (UTC)
I don't know how to lookup the edit date of the sub-page :( adding an update needed template still seems clunky, idk what to do. File:User Chieftain Alex Chieftain Signature.jpg Chieftain Alex 12:23, 23 June 2012 (UTC)

New Userpage

Since you're currently here...

Is there a way to make Item infobox not automatically categorize reward trophy pages into Category:Trophies when the collector parameter is used (e.g. Imperial Mask Token and Ancient Artifact)? Reward trophy pages are already categorized in Category:Reward trophies and some reward trophy items don't drop from creatures like trophy items do. --Silver Edge 21:47, 29 June 2012 (UTC)

Thanks, I see you have altered that infobox. That corrected the categorization on all the reward trophy pages except for War Supplies, which is categorized in Category:Trophies because "Reward trophy" and "Sweet" are listed in the "type" parameter. --Silver Edge 05:07, 10 July 2012 (UTC)
Good spot, its a bit of an odd one that. Do you think I should add a special case for "War Supplies"? :/ File:User Chieftain Alex Chieftain Signature.jpg Chieftain Alex 10:01, 10 July 2012 (UTC)

(Reset indent) Pillaged Goods is automatically categorized into Category:Trophies by Template:Item infobox, since {{ #if: {}|}} is used in that template and the Pillaged Goods page has a collector listed in its infobox. How can that code be adjusted so that salvage item pages, such as Pillaged Goods, doesn't appear in the trophy category? Thanks. --Silver Edge 07:26, 2 August 2012 (UTC)

Ok I've made some edits and put them in sandbox 1. My test results are in sandbox 5. (I'm also thinking we should get tub to add the material categorisation code.) --File:User Chieftain Alex Chieftain Signature.jpg Chieftain Alex 10:55, 2 August 2012 (UTC)

Urgoz's Warren/Map

As per Talk:Urgoz's Warren/Map, the elite area has only 2 death traps. Their "safety character" spot are correctly marked with player's position marker, but you also added the same legend on the Energy Drain icon and readers are seeing 3 safe spots. Change the "Only one person should remain here until the Guardian Serpent is slain to stop foes spawning next room." for "While in the area, foes suffer from -4 Energy degeneration.". User Yoshida Keiji Signature.jpg Yoshida Keiji talk 11:27, 5 July 2012 (UTC)

Boss List Merger

I commented on this page, I'd like to know what you think before I do anything. --CrazyRabidSquirrel 16:18, 15 July 2012 (UTC)

Ok they're quite different in appearance, do you think you could do a really small mockup so I have an idea of what you're intending to follow through with? File:User Chieftain Alex Chieftain Signature.jpg Chieftain Alex 08:30, 16 July 2012 (UTC)
Basically, if any of the bosses are missing on the capture location page, I'll add them. The List of bosses page would become a redirect to the capture location page, instead of being a carbon copy of the same information. It would require little to no change to the capture location pages. --CrazyRabidSquirrel 14:56, 16 July 2012 (UTC)
It's a selective paste merger. I delete all text on List of Factions bosses and add "#REDIRECT List of elite skills by Factions capture location". I then place "merge content to DESTINATIONPAGE" as edit summary. I also edit List of elite skills by Factions capture location with a summary of "merge content from SOURCEPAGE" even if no meaningful edits are performed. I then place "Article merged: See old talk-page here" on List of elite skills by Factions capture location talk page. I might go ahead and perform the Factions one. If you don't like it, go ahead and revert it, and make the changes you feel necessary. --CrazyRabidSquirrel 16:26, 16 July 2012 (UTC)
Tbh I think we would have been better off with just deleting "List of Factions bosses" since nothing important links there anyway.. the same for the "List of Nightfall bosses" and "List of Prophecies bosses" too. They're just too long to be helpful, and a redirect ain't helpful at all. :/ (afaik "List of elite skills by Prophecies/Factions/EoTN/Nightfall capture location" are all complete) File:User Chieftain Alex Chieftain Signature.jpg Chieftain Alex 00:47, 17 July 2012 (UTC)
I agree with their redundancy. I couldn't find a guide or template for merging other than the tag. I did find the discussion on whole topic here, and a link to Wikipedia's merging guide. From what I got from these links, it looks like the history and talk pages for the merged/deleted articles have to be preserved under the GFDL. I think the reason behind leaving the redirect there is for the preservation of the page history. I'll do the same thing to the others that I did to the Factions one, if you think the redirect is unneeded, go ahead and tag it for deletion, I'm just too afraid to becuase of this GFDL stuff. Off the topic, it looks like you avoided the evil grasp of 216.66.151.59 today. That IP hit my talk and userpage 3 times each. Curse those darn IP's. --CrazyRabidSquirrel 02:51, 17 July 2012 (UTC)

Template help

After I made some changes to Skill progression max12 so it doesn't display rank 0, rank 3 doesn't display the correct figure on some of the allegiance rank skill pages. E.g. Summon Spirits displays "78" for rank 3, but it should be displaying "79". Is there anyway to fix this or should I revert my changes? --Silver Edge 04:52, 20 July 2012 (UTC)

I had a careful look, and concluded that if it previously start the progression at rank zero, then what appeared to be the rank one value would be a rounded value. I've used this to calculate the "precise" (no rounding) values. (Yellow cells are inputs, the bottom progression is the old one, the top progression is the new one).
I'm sure theres a method where it can calculate the var0 value and just not display it, but I've no real idea how to do that. I think I've updated all the skills needing an update. File:User Chieftain Alex Chieftain Signature.jpg Chieftain Alex 11:27, 20 July 2012 (UTC)

I still think it would be good if a seperate usergroup was setup with the rights to delete pages created by vandals. (i.e. New users who aren't auto-confirmed / IP editor's pages). Chieftain Alex 09:15, 5 October 2012 (UTC)

I have also noticed the increase of bots activity, either because the Community is less present and bots stand outnumbering us... or because the bots have really grown in strength. Maybe it's time to re-address the last discussion at the Community Portal. Having more sysops than just Aberrant and Auron could be a choice, but the sysop's work load will not stop because of that. I would like to know more how wiki-bots work to counter malicious ones. I think the filter system needs to be updated instead of having more people at work... Template:Gw2w

Any coding that can automatically place it at the bottom of any page? User Yoshida Keiji Signature.jpg Yoshida Keiji (talk) 10:08, 16 November 2012 (UTC)

That would be incorrect formatting in a great many cases - e.g. if the article has no image at the top, you're meant to put the gw2w template at the top of the page. (as such coding is not required) --Chieftain Alex 14:21, 16 November 2012 (UTC)

I just changed my account name after finding that I was permitted to when visiting the gw2site that Silver Edge linked to in the FAQ .... and now I can't login to gw1, my original email is now not registered, password reset has been disabled and the new password ain't working. fucking ace! --Chieftain Alex 21:47, 7 December 2012 (UTC)

I'm sorry to hear that. I added that information after reading Slavic's comment on the Support Forums. I had logged into my GW1 account on that website, but didn't try changing my account name or password. Have you contacted support? Hopefully they can correct the issue. --Silver Edge 23:03, 7 December 2012 (UTC)
Hah, I think its hilarious :) I've emailed support (I can login to the support forums & the gw2account management) - so I'm hopeful. I bet they won't fix it during the weekend though, so it forces me to revise for my january exams ^^ --Chieftain Alex 23:15, 7 December 2012 (UTC)
I just successfully changed my GW1 password (i.e. am able to login to GW1 with the new password), so I'll add a note to Guild Wars Wiki:FAQ and Login screen warning others not to attempt to change their GW1 account name using that site. --Silver Edge 23:19, 7 December 2012 (UTC)
I now have access, but for some reason I cannot copy/paste my password from an open document into the gw1 client, only type it. Perhaps there is a limit to the number of characters it will allow you to paste into the password box? (99 characters used) Or were we never able to copy/paste passwords into the client? --Chieftain Alex 21:48, 9 December 2012 (UTC)
Did support explain what caused the issue with changing your account name? I can copy my password from a document and paste it into the password box on the game login screen and it also worked when I tried copying and pasting a string of 99 characters. Are you certain you're doing it properly? --Silver Edge 05:57, 10 December 2012 (UTC)
Support were the most generic they've ever been with my responses.
After a bit more testing, it seems I can copy/paste the password from a blank notepad document, but not out of Excel.. (I use excel for all my other passwords -_- ). I can even copy/paste the password into Notepad from Excel, and then copy the string out of Notepad into GW. Seems fucked up but whatever :P --Chieftain Alex 08:35, 10 December 2012 (UTC)
Totally on time with this response, but you should get ATnotes. Freeware program that lets you put post-its on your desktop; good for little reminders, making lists on the fly or simply storing passwords. It's one of the first things I put on a new computer. -Auron 02:53, 12 January 2013 (UTC)

File:Nicholas the Traveler Shadow's Passage map.jpg

I bet you would love to improve this map :D User Yoshida Keiji Signature.jpg Yoshida Keiji (talk) 14:19, 14 December 2012 (UTC)

nope, I'm visiting my parents - no gw = no direct swap. You could simply revert it to the "22:58, 12 April 2010" version if you hate the nicholas icon. I think its quite sweet with it though :p --Chieftain Alex 00:17, 15 December 2012 (UTC)

Equine Aegis

Hello! Your note were used as a source. Really, is this a mistake or hoax? I cannot remember even a single Vaettir walking in Bjora Marches. According to Wiki, it's an area with no vaettir spawn, including pop-ups. Although theoretically there is a small chance that most of people including myself never activated their spawn, I guess that you meant something else. In such case, please fix the Equine Aegis page too. --Slavic 23:24, 28 December 2012 (UTC)

He probably mistook it with Jaga Moraine where the Vaetirr farm is located. Da Mystic Reaper 09:39, 29 December 2012 (UTC)
Quite right. Sorry for the confusion. Chieftain Alex 20:42, 29 December 2012 (UTC)
I supposed this :) Thanks! --Slavic 09:13, 30 December 2012 (UTC)

It has been a while...

Hello again, you probably don't recall me. I need your sage advice. I know how redirect works, but I want to know if it is an "ethical" use to make a redirect to a user character? For example; a lot of people look for me as "Baron Velspa" instead of Wendy Black. So would it be a violation to use the redirect on the name to my user page? I am not talking about doing all 8 of my characters either, just this one so people aren't asking me over again for the long nasty url. I know the wiki stats, "In general, redirect use is encouraged on this wiki.". I just don't want to land in hot water.
Thanks! --Wendy Black 07:51, 6 January 2013 (UTC)

I don't think we allow users to redirect from the mainspace to their characters, otherwise we'd have thousands of mad character names redirecting :P (although theoretically we'd all have unique char names)
If you were ingame, you could tell them to type "User:Wendy Black/Baron Velspa" in the f10 box, that gets you there straight away.
Unfortunately by default doing a search for Baron Velspa in the left hand box doesn't show userspace results by default. :/ this answer is not very satisfying I know.
Also, googling "Baron Velspa" gets your page as the top result.. useful or not idk :P Chieftain Alex 09:14, 6 January 2013 (UTC)
I thought as much and could not find a rule on this anywhere. Maybe something should be added to the Help:Redirect page so other authors don't assume it would be a good idea and start abusing it? Maybe another sub section stating When NOT to use Redirects. --Wendy Black 16:20, 6 January 2013 (UTC)
I use a redirect from User:TEF to User:Tennessee Ernie Ford. I own both accounts and it's used so that (a) people can find me easily and (b) for various templates (because even I get tired of typing out the full name; plus, it's much easier to trouble shoot using shorter URLs).
People would have to remember to type User: before the name, but they would have to do that anyhow to find any user's home page here. – Tennessee Ernie Ford (TEF) 20:57, 6 January 2013 (UTC)
Ohi tef ^^
I thought I typed out a second response to Wendy, but I must have left without saving.. it seems really obvious to me that redirects aren't for mainspace → userspace, I've never really looked for any documentation. (a good example of what was a commonly accessed userpage which did not have a redirect was User:Poke/GWWT) --Chieftain Alex 21:39, 6 January 2013 (UTC)
(Excuse, Alex). TEF, I would prefer to think twice before giving the recommendations about redirection Username1 -> Username2. Wiki has the anti-sockpuppet rule GWW:SOCK which deprecates the creation of additional accounts, maybe with a few exceptions. Also I remember that some people (no reason to name them here) were banned because of sockpuppetry or for attempt to avoid the active ban. So, before the creation of second account it would be necessary to convince Wiki admins that it's not a sockpuppet, which makes this way quite uncommon for wide usage. --Slavic 23:32, 6 January 2013 (UTC)
I agree that user names never belong in mainspace; I can't think of any reason for that — we didn't even allow Guild:으v트r_9000 to create a mainspace redirect. And as for sockpuppets, this issue only matters if people contribute to talk page discussions using both accounts. The issue for Wendy/Velspa isn't wanting to go around the rules, it's making it easy for people to locate the right user.
In fact, GWW:SOCK explicitly allows for the usage I recommended: "Sockpuppets can be declared by clearly linking all used accounts in an accessible place... " As long as the person who owns the sock(s) identifies themself clearly on all relevant user pages, they are not "socking" — an issue only arises when someone pretends to be two people. (And this is wrong even if they use two IP addresses or an IP and an account.) But, since I hardly visit here, y'all should consider whether this still makes sense for the wiki or not. – Tennessee Ernie Ford (TEF) 01:10, 7 January 2013 (UTC)
Thanks guys for the answers LoL, I don't mean to open a can of worms. As long as, nobody comes in here spoofing as me or the Baron, I don't have plans to juggle more than one account. My hands are full now. I had a guild member open his own account up and I am currently setting his start page up. He had no clue, thought I paid someone money to get in here, funny how much people don't understand a wiki. I told him to be sure to pick out his user ID and shoot me some pics in the email. I hope to teach the man to fish you know... User:Simon of Aragon is my guild treasurer, I know you will extend him a warm welcome. He is a very active player who started just last May. --Wendy Black 01:41, 7 January 2013 (UTC)

Am I bugging you yet?

Sorry but I don't know who else to ask, it seems like you say something on an admin's page and it gets ignored. I added a blurb into notes last Halloween and some twit named Silver Hawk or something hacked it up, moved stuff about in odd places, and thinks he is God of the wiki or something. Anyway, last Halloween 2012, I was exploring the Rotscale mission crypt and took some interesting shots of wall art in a room you can only access during Halloween. My question is do I add this to the current page and hope that another nit-wit doesn't decide to hack it all up, or is there another page? I was looking for hidden rooms page or maps etc.. I don't think there is enough to deserve a page of its own. I really would like your opinion. Thanks! --Wendy Black 10:53, 11 January 2013 (UTC)

Silver Edge is the best editor this wiki has -_- you should probably be able to recognise his name.
The wall art appears all over the game, particularly in Shards of Orr / Cathedral of Flames / Caverns below Kamadan-Beneath kaineng-chasm etc. Its not really significant at all, so it would be best to keep any screenshots of such stuff under your own userspace — e.g. I've got quite a bit of it down at User:Chieftain_Alex/Gallery#Murals — just please don't add it to mainspace stuff. Chieftain Alex 14:05, 11 January 2013 (UTC)
I apologize for not recalling his name exactly, since I thought he was a transient, without a namespace of his own. But this brings to mind an all too common plight of all wikis on the internet. A professional study was done by The Guardian about the stagnation of a wiki.
They found that a frequent (elite) editor’s chance of having an edit reverted (undone) was roughly 1%. For editors that make one change per month or less, their chances of having their edits reverted are upward of 25%. In other words, a change by a casual editor is more likely than ever to be overturned, while changes by the frequent are rarely questioned. What does this mean to any wiki? It means that by definition the wiki goes from being a community driven project to a select few making all the decisions.
I was only pointing out the map in question was reused from EotN. The reasons for the player's true location or map was blank, was they were in Eye of the North. I placed it where people could find it in the notes and in less than 24 hours this user came in chopped, deleted, and shuffled. The edits were as I told him "editing just for the sake of editing". So in your eyes he is some kind of hero for shuffling a deck of cards? Oh well, that is your opinion and I have expressed mine. I won't bother posting any new images since this is all too common knowledge. Thank you for your time and sorry to bother you. --Wendy Black 03:16, 12 January 2013 (UTC)
The obvious explanation for the difference in reversion rates is that the person who edits frequently knows the policies and practicess of the wiki he's on, whereas the infrequent editor does not, and will add information in the wrong place, in the wrong style, or do something similarly wrong that requires reversion/retouching.
There are also other cases, where frequent editors require constant supervision and attempt to make wide, sweeping changes without consensus or approval and have the majority of their edits reverted. It's all based on scenario. If silver edge fucks something up, he can fully expect to be reverted on it, and he won't feel even the slightest bit offended. -Auron 04:14, 12 January 2013 (UTC)
Oh, forgot to mention the less obvious one, that people might feel too intimidated to revert a more experienced editor. But that's probably a miniscule fraction of edits compared to the difference in knowledge of formats/policies. (And in all honesty, the more experienced editors should see no problem being reverted - they know how to use talk pages to discuss differences in opinion, and they know their work is free to be edited "mercilessly"). -Auron 09:39, 12 January 2013 (UTC)
